Have started a new thread for this week, since the last one had already reached 300.

We all know its likely to be a volatile week in terms of the blog, what with the events of this weekend, the aftermath, and reactions to it. But Id like to make a request to all up front - please, lets keep it clean and non-personal, if we can? Lets not use this forum to grind any old axes, or launch personal attacks on anyone or any team.

Lets wait until the facts are in from all sides, if we can. Iam sure the Disciplinary Committee is getting feedback on what happened from all sides - lets give them some time, let them hear from all sides and make whatever decisions they have to make (with regard to the match, the individuals involved, everything) without prejudging anything. Lets stay moderate on this issue, stay clean, and not add fuel to any fires? Thanks :-)

Hello Sadiq,

its the final week of the regular season for division 2....so whats ur pedictions for the ponts table standings heading into the playoffs and who do you think are serious "contenders vs pretenders" (ESPN sportcenter lingo) to go deep into the playoffs? :)

Anonymous said...

Is it too hard to expect for all team atleast in the playoff hunt to update there score card so it reflect 13 games.

Guys,

I am back for a long break. I probably chose the wrong week to get back in after the events from last weekend. Its never good to hear about these kind of incidents, it should not happen in our league. Also, in the benefit of keeping the blog clean, as Sadiq mentioned, lets make sure we dont dive into personal attacks of any sort. Lets wait till the truth comes out and the decisions are made.

As an update, I managed to break my right ring finger. It was a freak accident. I saw Unbreakable last weekend ...made me feel very uneasy. :)

Its that time of the season when a lot of teams are fighting for playoff spots. My team, Phoenix has a chance too and I hope we can pull through.

When is the next Bloggers meet up scheduled..Romeen, Sheks, Rup, Adi..?

Aditya said...

Guys,

Please be mindful of what you write on this blog. The idea of the blog is to create a community within our league to faciliate the exchange of ideas and information. We want to improve the league and build a closer knit community, not fan the flames and cause greater rifts.

Please be careful and responsible about what you say. I don't mean to sound "preachy", but obviously tempers are high from this weekend's incident and our goal should be to resolve it, not to cause further problems. I am sure those concerned are following up on this and we will hear more on it soon.

Aditya said...

Jaggi,

Not sure. Can't do anything this weekend as we are heading to St Louis (where your services will be missed), but we should plan something soon.

Rup said...

Jaggi,
Stop breaking stuff???.
Glad to know you are back. Hope you get better soon and be back on the field.

Would love to meet you on saturday.
Hope you guys have a great time when you are here.

Jaggi,
Thats terrible! I'm so sorry, hope you feel better soon.
Adi,
are we betting on any games this week?

Unknown said...

Guys,

as a change of topic...

What's everyone's opinion on the upcoming 20/20 WC.....who do you think are favorites to win it ...any predictions on the final four...what are your opinions on whose side is best equiped for the tournament...as this tournament will be the first of its kind which will test many international teams on whether they will adapt and succeed in this format.

I am just hoping that the auzzies don't win this cup too....My pick would be SA to win it.

Asmar said...

cleo,

I'm going to be an optimist and pick either India or Pakistan to win the 20/20.

Unknown said...

asmar,

all sub-continent team fans are always the "eternal optimists " :)

but with both india and pakistan fielding new 20/20 units ...it will be interesting to see if they can manage to go far in this tournament...and their biggest weakness being their reputation for poor fielding...however, with both teams having more younger players, hopefully this will help them alot especially in this game's format.

ice_cold said...

Is there a rule abut what happens to the game if there is a fight?

Apparently Pak wanted to continue the game as the fight lasted about 5 mins or so and nobody was hurt.
But Muslim refused to play and went home.

May be Aditya Sadiq or Jaggi can shed some light if we have any rule?

Asmar said...

Cleo,

Agreed that we are eternal optimists :-) Too bad the teams and players don't share our enthusiasm most of the times.

I think the young units will do well. Both teams will definitely do better than the world cup. India probably more so than Pakistan...Pakistan still has made some selection blunders.

Jaggi said...

ice_cold, there is no rule as far as I know. Typically, both teams present their side and then a decision is taken after consulting with the umpire/s and league officials (if any were at the ground during the altercation).

Aditya said...

ice_cold,

I honestly have no idea. I guess one possibility is to carry on with the game, though I highly doubt any such game would carry on. At that point tempers are too high, emotions raw, and it's tough to play a game in the right spirit.

I think it's justified to not play the game any further. We'll just have to wait and see what the outcome of this one will be. Lets hope it's the last such incident.

Aditya said...

I personally think that the 20/20 world cup will go to the team that bowls and fields the best. My reasoning is that any total is gettable, and the team that can defend scores best is likely to win most.

Therefore, Pakistan or South Africa are my picks. Sri Lanka is my dark horse!

Hey Aditya,
Would love to meet you on saturday.
Hope you guys have a great time when you are here.

Ajoy,

Looking forward to meeting you as well and playing against you guys. Maybe after the game, you could suggest a good place for us to get some dinner before heading back, and joining us as well.

See you Saturday.

Aditya said...

Romeen,

Lets bet on some games this week. Your turn to make the predictions.

Alpesh said...

Aditya ..

This is not fair .. when it comes to MWCC .. you always pick Phoenix up for play-off places .. and for 20-20 World Cup champs, you are not mentioning India as a contender ... Thats bad :)

Rup said...

MWCC rule is if there is one it overides ICC rules. if not then ICC rules takes effect.
I think there is someting on this in our MWCC by laws.
If not ICC rule is the team that brings the game into dis-repute will loose the game. (PAK vs England) as an example.
In this case charging the field should never have happened no matter what was said so i say Pak looses the game.
In regards to punishement for fighting, I agree we should let the League review and decide.

Rup said...

It's hard to pick to Asian teams to win in SA. Unless all games are played at the Wanderers they ain't got a chance.
Other than the Wanderres all the wickes play a bit Jumpy.
So I say Australia will be the team to beat. SA is on the down side right now so my Dark horses will be New Zealan & WI.

Tonald Drump said...

Last week of regular season is upon us. Boy oh boy I cannot wait for Playoffs fever to kick in.

Alpesh,

I don't think I've ever picked Phoenix for a playoff spot. As far as not picking Inida, there are a number of factors as to why I'm not picking them. Of course, I do hope they win, it will be great. But I don't see that as a likely (unfortunately) scenario.

Unknown said...

Rup,

I agree Australia is always the team to beat in any form of the game....but I think the chances of WI winning it are as remote as India and Pakistan's.

My Dark horse pick would be England...with the main reason being that their main players (if fit) have the most amount of experience playing the 20/20 format...but of course the grounds in SA will pose enough issues especially with the heavy dew factor in the day/night fixtures in the coastal venues of SA.

Rup said...

Cleo,
Yeh, If Englan is fit???.
Their Bowling is their weekest link right now and I don't think it will get better for the tournament.
Lets hope the do for it will make for good cricket

i have a question?

if Pak players get suspension or Muslims players. will be only for day or both day and night?

Rup said...

If suspended by the league then they will not be allowed to participate in any official MWCC games until the suspension is over.

-------

I would presume a suspension from the league is a suspension from the entire league.. ie in all forms of cricket in the league. That is, first div, 30/30, night, everything, no? Else it kinds of defeats the purpose I think.

Also, BTW, people have mentioned the likelihood of 2 or 3 year bans etc. Given history, isnt that sort of unlikely, and asking too much? I cant remember too many incidents quite this unsavoury (from what one has heard) over the past few years... but does anyone remember the longest suspensions ever handed down by the league before? Jaggi can probably shed more light on the suspensions resulting from the Tigers/Pak game from 2-3 years ago (I think they were relatively short, a game or two?); the big incident obvoiusly was Shiraz and Deccan Blues in the playoffs, which was closest in size to this weekends, probably (with the added worse point that it was an umpire who was attacked by a team). There the game was given over (a playoff game), and the player and team were banned for 1 year provisional to apologies etc... eventually, IIRC, the team apologized and played next season, while the player also apologized and ended up missing about 4 weeks or so before being able to play, I think it was? There was also a SunXI and PakGym night game 2-3 years ago at Hanover that had incidents similar to this weekend... I dont recall if there were suspensions(or what they were) from that incident, but if there were they were not very big ones I dont think.

hey guys
i dont know if thats true or not but i heard someone has the video for the whole thing so lets see what happen.
--------

BTW, Ive heard this same thing - I first thought it was someone kidding around, but it is supposedly true. Someone (a player from a team in MWCC) was supposedly there making a home video of the game from the start, apparently... and when the incident in question took place, he apparently got most or all of it on tape too.

So the tape apparently *is* in existance somewhere. However, Ive also heard that the person wants to stay out of things, and so hasnt been willing to let people see it or give it to the league etc. If at least the Disciplinary Committee could get to see it, it might make their job of collating information about the incident (and handing downt their judgment) a whole lot easier, with a lot less hearsay involved!

Rup said...

I think if we see any suspension it will be on the responsible individuals.
They cannot and should not suspend a team for the behaviors of a few.
The last time the suspended a whole team it endend up in court and some wasted $$. Milwaukee Cricket Club VS MWCC.

hey sadiq u brought up some interesting points of the past. However in past there was so evidence. Unfortunatley for pak all there actions were caught on camera!!! ALSO keep in mind this is not there first offense especially for Rasheed or Shahid!!! Justice will be served if not muslim has all the evidence to put rasheed and the gang behind bars

Jaggi said...

Madhu, from what I have heard, playoffs will start the weekend following the end of the regular season.

Sadiq, I did not play the game you referred to(Tigers Vs Pak Gymkhana). I remember being updated about the incident, but do not recollect the details of the punishments handed out.

cricketer411 said...

hey pukka punjabi thanks for giving an honest view. Honest cricketer u are what rasheed said to azhar. BUT i would like to tell u all bloogers who didnt fight from PAK bakshi, imran, raheel, farman, maqsood raza, they showed class of being better humans. Instead they were cursed and insulted by there own teammates for not fighting. The rest of the team showed there true colors. JOE also tried to stop this fight but other pak supporters ran into the field to spark the fire. Pak players were also involed in a fight few weeks ago where they beat up few teenagers from a team, that team will be reporting to the leauge officials soon. Half of pak will be or should be suspended for few years, i ask all team captains to make sure you ask the leauge to take severe actions against pak. Sheraz, asmar, and fasial from united were at the game can you guys please shed some more light to the event. In past Pak have picked on little teams, Lets see what happens to them for messing with MUSLIM!!!!

hey guys!

when will they take the decision? because i want to keep my hopes up for the Playoffs?

Preetam N said...

We need to have a separate kabaddi league for guys who want to get physical. People forget that cricket is first of all a gentleman's game. Where has the 'pehle aap' culture gone ? Damn!
I remember we had an incident 2 years ago when an oppsition player used a MF word against us and 3 of our players rushed him. He came at the 3 with his bat and 2 of our guys took up wickets. The issue was resolved calmly. But we as a team suspended our 3 players for 2 games each and asked them to umpire in one league game each.
I am not saying we are the most righteous or anything, but captains and senior players in the team should responsibility of how their teams conduct.

Preetam N said...

Madhu,
Did you come to chicago ?

Aditya said...

preetam,

Was your captain one of the three players?

cricket said...

preetam,

but the problem over here is that more then half the side was in the ground fighting and there friends who came to watch the game was invole as well.

Captain was the one who started the whole thing and they have done this before as far as i know.

Aditya,Preetam is talking abt match btw Chicago Giants and Eagles. He is very right that they themselves suspended 3 of there players. As far as I remember they suspended Amit,Ganesh and Mankesh.

who_what said...

supposedly another incident last night... would someone care to elaborate????

Aditya said...

Agam,

Thanks for the info. One must applaud the captian, the managers, and the Eagles team for taking such decisions on their own.

However, my questions was more about what can a team do when their captain and a majority, or close to a majority of their players are involved? A point that mini-player made as well.

Dr B said...

Why does this site "lite-up" when there is an incident such as a drunk at Hanover/P or now about the fights over the weekend' only game, when everyone else is either getting drunk or having a good time on a long weekend?

Get some babes on this site and lets see their version of what fun is all about.

Tonald Drump said...

Did you kick my dog?

Preetam N said...

Agam, you are right. It was against Chicago Giants. But the players you mentioned are wrong. I did not want to name any names hence the ambiguity.
A captain should lead by example. I guess there is very little one can do if the captain himself indulges in ruffiany.
I sincerely hope the offending team takes corrective action so that it doesnt happen anymore.
It is not good for cricket, people.

Preetam,
Yes, that's what I thought :) I've known them for a long time and doubted if they would do such actions :) but I know who you might be talking about :)

So it looks like your last game should be fun since it's a d/n game?

abhi,

I'm sure a just decision will be made in the matter. I'm not sure if accusing Tariq and Sohail of favoring Pakistani teams is fair. They do the best they can and manage a bipartisan league. Let's not make this an 'india - pakistan' thing...it's kind of childish.

I dont really know if the management favors any team per se. But i know for sure they are not country biased.
Please be careful as to not incite another controversy.

Preetam N said...

Madhu, sent you a email.
Do any of the hyderabadi guys know Hari Mohan ? the fast bowler. He has written a book called "the men within". It is apparently about cricket. Itseems hyderabad cricketers who played any serious cricket would identify with a lot of incidents.

Tonald Drump said...

I totally agree with Asmar and Ajoy. Please keep India, Pakistan and Carribean politics out of this blog and MCC.

Running a league is not easy. As one cannot satisfy everyone. All I look for is for is MCC to make best possible decision based on the circumstances. So give them time.

I have known Tariq and Sohail for a long time. They do not support one race over other. Insider tip - Tariq likes cute girls and Sohail likes boys. (JK)

I will end with this - Players play and Management Manages.

Aditya said...

Does anyone know if a decision has been taken and if so, what that decision is?

These decisions should be made asap, so that players and teams can make the necessary adjustments if any.

Also, making a decision after the playoffs, or worse, after the season, will in itself be a bad decision!

Jaggi said...

abhi, I am deleting your post. I have worked with Tariq and I know that he does not distinguish. So, please blog more responsibly.

Rup said...

Agreed Adi,
These situations need emergency attention to make sure, if needed, punishments are handed down immediately to make players understand the seriousness of unprofessional behaviros.
I don't care where you are at or will be in regards to playoffs/season for one must always think before acting?.

Ajoy Lal said...

to add to what Tonald Drump said.....

I play with Sohail and he is leading a team which has players from both India and Pakistan.

There has never been a situation where he has favored one over another.

Dr B said...

I am reading the blogs and I must say that some things do not make sense. Firstly,I must say that people get the wrong impression of such incidents and start making the wrong conclusions. Matters such as tese should be delt with efficiently and rapidly be the Disciplinary committee. I remember an incident once in which a certain player was banned for 2 years pending his rash decision to kick-down the stumps. Regardless of the incident,we must keep the nature of this wonderful sport alive. Do not mix race, culture and country of origin (say we are all now the same in this land) with this sport. Cricket is about the joy of the sport itself and we all know what that is about,so get to your management and work with these issues and resolve things, without starting negative discussions.

Looks like you lost the first 2 predictions and won the 3rd one. We still do not have confirmation on the last one, as I do feel I got N_W that day.

So, that puts us at 4-3 in my favour with 1 prediction still to confirm. Our game is next week, so, we gotta settle this before then. Your predictions?

Anonymous said...

Sadiq,

Whats wrong with you? I don't think that asking for a 2-3 year ban is too much. In three out of the four incidents you mentioned, the same team was involved. The league has to take strict action against them.

And these Pak Gymkhana players need to find a different hobby. Maybe they should join the army. They fit the profile of an American soldier perfectly. I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean, aren't these soldiers supposed to be model citizens? Aren't they supposed to be brave, local, and stupid?

If these players piss their pants on the battlefiend, then they could be used as human shields. Won't make much of a difference to me. Just get them out of our league.

Someone mentioned something about Kabaddi. I don't think thats a wise idea. Kabaddi is not simple. In Kabaddi, you still need to somewhat use your brain. Rashid, Shahid, Hasan stopped using their brain after hitting puberty. Its high time we got rid of these guys.

But wait, we have a couple of corrupt sissies in office. So my dream of kicking these guys out is just that - a dream.

Jaggi, Adnan, Rup, you guys should take action if at all one of you takes over next year.

Anyway, goodluck to all the teams this weekend. Please be good.

Signing out,
Tango

PS. Jaggi, you are awesome man. That 'Unbreakable' comment cracked me up :))
