Political Hot Topics - Thread 1

In order to facilitate all discussions, we have decided to separate the discussion threads. If you want to talk about political hot-topics, then there will be a thread for that. If you want to talk about week 9 predictions, results, and other discussions.

If we see comments starting to spill over, we will be forced to monitor and censor them in order to keep the discussions separate. Note, the goal is not to prevent or suppress any form of discussion, but instead to facilitate all types of discussions.

This thread is for politically motivated discussions. Please feel free to discuss anything related to the running of this league, interactions with other leagues, USACA related issues, etc.

It seems like it does not matter how bad anybody does their job in this management, No actions will be taken against anybody and nobody will take any responsibility, whether its the balls issue, ground condition, grass in chicago grounds so big that when I was practicing at hanover it was hard to find ball in the grass and now losing our long time dominance in the regional tournament.

Whats next ????
Lets see what kind of dramas we gonna see when the playoffs time come and I am not sure after failing in CER we should even think of going to California this year.

God Bless Our League and Our Cricket. We may have to give up any hope for any kind of improvements ??

I just speak to gentleman in Michigan and he told me our Div-II best 11 could have easily defeated GLCC team. Not acceptable performance at all.

Sadiq Baba was talking too big without worrying about job at hand. He was thing California and National and other BS. Shame on us !!!!

Sadiq Baba needs to go with other 40 thieves :)

Adnan, you don't know what you doing - that's why we lost against freaking GLCC - your old budy bite you (he was one of the umpire)- right?

Rumors are that is the umpire that single handedly screwed mwcc over. Don't know how that is adnan's fault?
blogger what else did your friend in michigan tell you???

Blogger you seem to have a pretty good handle on things. Why don't you come out and join administration to help us run it better?

There is a connection to this umpire. His son used to play for united. I am not sure whether he was happy or not but father took care of it.

Now this does not look good when you say to others to come and make things better since you claimed that you know what you are doing. You should have had a pretty good handle on CER issues like umpiring, following USACA criteria and, taking care of boys travelling arrangement better in Detroit.

You need to do better what you are giving after running the democracy theme campaign and promise to make changes better along your cronies. It is not working.

I am not sure how do you come up with this that umpire screwed up. In the final game there was only one lbw given unless you are denying that catches were also given wrong but it is hard for us to digest that our batsman screwed up badly and somehow has to blame someone. We need to get out it from this thinking and spend time to build a better team.

So when Adnan give Fahad and Faisal name to chaddi leader in order to advance them to the next round, he will use this excuse that umpire was bad. You got to be kidding.

Adnan,

I been helping for so long. Now is your turn.My objective is not to be part of this or any future management. Goal is to sit on the side and enjoy yours and c8w screw ups.

Losing to any league in this region is out of my comprehension. You were talking about trials, fair chance and bla bla……………. What happened? Dude, it comes down to caliber and class – not to stat.

Alpesh, please find more stat for Sadiq Baba – that’s what he needs to do. Could you please frame final score card and give one copy to Sadiq Baba, Adnan and Asif. It’s a souvenir for their life long achievement  it will look great in their living rooms – it should say at bottom GLCC def. MWCC !!!!!!

BTW, where our superstars are who represented us – rumors are out there you guys didn’t get good treatment either. Stayed in pathetic hotel and played on garbage grounds.

Fahd your score dried up in Michigan !

Stats tells you small part story – bad team selection – batting was week but we did play six bowlers. Why? Captain, did you select the team? or Mr. Liason who knows every thing was doing that job for you.

SUCK_IT_UP said...

What happened to Sadiq’s favorite person Romesh? What is the good story on him? Did he not show up at the ground or he said at the last minute he can not make it? Do we have any ruling, what would be the penalty on this? So it is ok to eject sohail for not making the trial but it is perfectly fine for a player not to go to tournament being in the team.

Did selection committee share any document that can explain the trial procedure and the consequences for not yielding the document?

It is truly said that players were treated real bad there by management. After all they were the superstars and should be taken care with respect. It is ok to spend some money on them from $42,000.

Also, I would suggest that Team Manager should write a report to share his views to public.

OK here is a question for management/selection committee....

Why was Hansraj from Arean asked at the last moment not to start to join the team.

We dont have any clue as to what happened and We were also not given satisfactory answer by the management so had to come to the blog for some answers.

SUCK_IT_UP said...

OK here is a question for management/selection committee....

Good luck for getting your answer. They somehow do not respond when tough questions are being asked because their lies do not match.

Here is what I think, he may be selected on the team but somehow someone scratch his name to put their closer allies or Hansraj supposed to go to Peoria for trial instead of Chicago.

This is what I told if they are looking stats for last two years then it should have made visible or communicated to the teams so that Hansraj or similar to those candidates do not bother to attend the trial. These trials story was just a sham to show the team that they follow democratic route.

I am not sure if St Louis is on their priority list. There was another possible candidate from that town was not considered.

Alpesh said...

Ajoy Sir,

I am not the best person to answer your question .. but I believe Hansraj was going to play for Director's 11 and they (Director's 11) ditched him at the last moment .. And then Hansraj did not want to play the Diversity cup ...

SUCK_IT_UP said...

Alpesh said...

To understand that these trial conducted for CER not for Director or Diversity cup? Right. If so, then why would he go and play for other tournament. I think the reason is beyond your thinking may be "I know what I am doing" can answer that.

Shekhs said...

Ajoy,
Alpesh is correct.
Hansraj was picked to play for the Director's XI in the CER, not for MWCC.
Director's XI jacked us (MWCC) last minute and waved off 2 of our players from their roster.
We tried our best to keep them in there, but they didnt honor that.

Since, he was left off from the CER squad, we tried to convince him to play for India Blues for the diversity cup. He didnt want to play that tourney.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Ajoy Lal said...

Thank you for clarifying Shekhs.

But I must say this does not leave a good impression and he will be reluctant to even be considered for any future tournaments.

Why do we even try and send players to play for a team over which we have no control.

Shekhs said...

Ajoy,
You do have a point, but you have to realize that we're trying to expose as many players as possible.
We want our players to have as many opportunities as possible. We'll work hard for that. Sometimes things dont work the way you want them to.
We just have to hang in there and keep chugging.
I feel bad for Hansraj, but its not the end of the road, there will be more opportunities.

Unknown said...

Alpesh,

Thanks for sharing the scorecard.. I think we got the problem nailed down when we look at the scorecard for the finals..

i.e., Nobody in the top order stayed and build any partnership.. If we got a 30 or 40 runs from somebody in the Top Order.. Our win is guaranteed.

Look at the figures we need 39 of the last 9 overs and no wickets left..

We are not capable to bat out the 45 overs against the bowling of GLCC.

Apart from Saquib nobody scored in the top 6. c8w, Any answers for this..

I think leaving sohail out of the team is the big problem in the top order. We didn't have a team to play 45 overs.. Leave out 50 Overs..

Any Comment from others..

tatabybycu said...

Adnan,

can you please clarify how is it that by following the USACA guidelines MWCC has ensured eligibility when other teams failed? Its a genuine question.. bcoz I am not able to figure this out and may be ignorant on these matters, please educate us.

If you think you do not have to clarify it.. that works fine as well :)

Unknown said...

Finger of Death.. Where are your comments and lectures about CER...

Don't know what to write...

Why don't you give your comments as an individual about this selection committee in a fair way...

I am sure.. You will hate it. It failed in all aspects. Right from not able to inspire the availability of important players to select a team which is not able to perform.

We certainly want to hear your story about the selection committee's achievements in this CER.

tatabybycu said...

fake,

Good read.. I think a decent partnership at the top would have helped the cause. However, Sohail, just like Dravid :), can also have a bad day.

I do not think it is fair to pin the loss on the selectors. I think they picked a very decent side.

I am interested in finding out how we performed on the field .. especially on the 3rd day.. were we sharp.. putting pressure etc? taking singles? I think fitness, energy and spirit could be more important factors.

Sadiq, and others, thanks for making the drive and representing our league. An update on this game, and the first 2, will be nice.

There will be those who say.. as selector you should not give your opinion in open.. but they are only a few. the rest of the league will benefit and enjoy knowing your perspectives.

Unknown said...

tatabybycu, fake, situp,

there is no doubt team was good but final 11 was not good, lack of strategy is obvious. Captain didn't knew how to set the field. Giving 213 to GLCC is not acceptable. as suck it up said if who region combine teams midwest will win 9 out of 10 games.

Not having Shahid, Yousaf, Ashhar, Sohail, Amit, Laxmi, Kabir, Bakhsi did hurt this team.

Picking Romesh over Kabir/Bakshi was the biggest blunder you can do. This question needs to be answered by dear Sadiq Baba. Kabir and Bakshi are proven winner - they were part of championship team.

Shekhs, how come Moin and Talah played for Directors-XI while they ditched Saquib and Hansraj? I would like to hear your side of story on this!

Sadiq Baba- now tell me who is going to be represent midwest in California in CER team. Seems like you and Adnan are deserving candidates !!!

Shekhs said...

Blogger,
Moin and Talha were picked by Directors XI, by the folks who formed director's XI.
We didnt recommend them.

We convinced the CER board to make the roster 16 instead of 14, so that we can send more of our folks.
When that was approved, we requested that they take 2 more of of our folks, namely, Hansraj and Saquib.
They agreed and everything was finalized. So, we let the players know.
They (Director's XI) called the night before the trip and let us know that those 2 will not be in the squad.

SUCK_IT_UP said...

Shekhs
I do not understand that where this Director 11 come from? Is it because this chaddi leader wants to fill up the gap for this tournament. Is it ok for USACA to let this happen and you are not going to challenge about it rather than come up with a different format to allow only the valid leagues to participate?

Do not ridicule yourself by saying that we want to give more opportunities to our players. Saqib and Hansraj had been dropped for Moin and Talha. You are competing your own players. The Midwest players should only represent Midwest. They should not be playing for non-Midwest team. I am sure there must be some sort a rule in USACA that Adnan can point us since he is so eager to follow the rules of USACA.

Ajoy Lal said...

Just want to thank Shekhs, Mehul and Sadiq for explaining the whole situation and givint it much needed clarity.

Time for us to get back to cricket now :)

@Blogger: Are these Players (Shahid, Yousaf, Ashhar, Sohail, Amit, Laxmi, Kabir, Bakhsi ) available to play first of all?

Let these players speak for themselves than somebody staying annon on this blog.

Don't give the crap question that they didn't want to attend the trails but wanted to play.

If they didn't want to come for trails but available to play then management have to answer If they picked anyone that haven't attended the trails ? If so what was the criteria to pick those that didn't attend the trial.

These questions have to be asked in a formal manner than in a blog.

That will prove your sincerity in being constructive.

You know and all other knows that Asif, Raheel, Sachine? & Romesh didn't attend trials - Why trials for the name I mentioned?

May be somebody from management can clear the reason behind picking few without trails but not others.

I think its a valid q by blogger and one of the selectors or shekhs or adnan, please answer...

1) did asif, raheel, romesh and sahcin attend 1 trial atleast? If they did not, did anyone from selection comittee reach out to sohail alvi to see if he can play in CER?

Why did they not do it? Unless mgmt explains this, it seems like its revenge against prev.mgmt..

Btw, sohail alvi cud have been the diff bw winning n losing for us in that finals..

Alpesh, we do need score card for 1st two games. That will show us trend - our batting was weakest point but captain went to field with strong bowling side - captain came out wrong on this front too.

He should have picked Shahid instead of Bhavesh and Ram instead of Nasir.

Could have use Shahid and Afroze as 5th bowler.

Tells me Mr.Captain & Liason didn't knew what they were doing :)

Purpose of this discussion to tell our selectors that they were wrong in selecting the team and chemistry lacks in this team. We are let down big time.

I agree. I am not involved with the selection at MWCC level.

This is what people have been asking the right justified answers but we get nonsense or divert the question to personality clashes. This management is not 100% perfect and so did the prev mgt.

The point here is that if the process is not right then that needs to be questioned like you did for many years on small things. This is exactly the same repeat but the party changed now. The selection committee had not laid out the process in order to follow and was not communicated to the players as to what would be the criteria for selection.

Madhu should be answering this question as to why sohail was not contacted since he was the in charge of that area and Pak gymkhana players were contacted by Sadiq numerous time. Did STL initially submitted sohail's name? If not then his followers should keep their mouth shut. If his name was given to the mgt then he should be contacted by Madhu. I know the trial for that region was cancelled but was he informed about that? I think if anyone answers those questions can close this subject.

However, I will tell you this much that the prev mgt was not biased in term of selecting players. They have selected many players from the opposed teams as well. It will prove their biasness If sohail left out from this team from any bogus reason. I think selection committee need to answer this question to clarify their stance. This would be a different topic whether sohail would be any beneficial to this team or not but based on his records his commitment and his ability to perform at this level make him to be in the team.

Unknown said...

Folks: The mess up of the management is understandable as they are gasping to get fresh air to breath after the miserable defeat.

Having said that, I just dont understand y u guys are so stuck up on Sohail. Let to me, it is better for a younger team to be beaten after putting up a fight and learn the lessons than win/loose with old war horses.
Hye, I am not saying that we should excuse the management - these guys have no clue about selection. They go by statistics, vote bank and what not....

I cant just understand the kind of sound and fury these guys created on their hour upon the state...to end an eventless history... 5 selectors, 40 probables, 3 trials,
2 wins, 1 major loss..shame shame...

This management is wearing flexibility on its sleeves when it cannot defend...a bunch of folks who has appeasing at the centre of strategy...they throw people into any problem instead of resolving this...finger pointing at each other ineffectiveness without any iota of ownership...

We have few leaders who simply own up any thing that goes wrong..his assumption is that owning up will resolve the issue and put him in gr8 light...they need to know that there are pleothora of issues and that unless they get their acts together this will spell disaster for MWCC.

Instead of spending time owning up issues blindly...sitdown and think whatznext dude?

Unknown said...

Whatznezt,

They didn't select a young team either..they didn't pick Ikram or ravi patel and let young guys play.. they didn't pick sohail alvi or go with experience either..god knows how they selected anyone.

No one knows their selection criteria...

SUCK_IT_UP said...

Whatznext
So you are telling me that Faisal, Bhavesh, Asif, Nilesh and Mahesh are also youngsters. Can you please have them updated their profile with correct ages?

Come on whatznext, you can come up better than that. If age has the limit then say it before the trial that we are only pursuing youngster below ?? age. Otherwise accept it that they were biased in their job.

Unknown said...

Balajee & SITUP: Let me validate my statement. What i meant is that ideally I would have had a mix of youth and experience together. And while i support experience, it should not be people who are there to retire, but young guys just around early 30's. I have no clue about the ages of those u hv mentioned, if they fall in this age then it is fine as long as they are fit, form and fighting. Of the 14, I would love to have a combo of 7-8 (Sr.) and 6-7 (jrs.). Jrs. being those sub 22-23 years talented folks (read talented). Somebody like Moin, or Jacque or Srijay and the young wicket keeper from WildCats should have been given chance over some of these names. This would blended a great team. The young minds never say die attitude will fire up the Sr.s too.

I have great respect for the selection committee (minus Sadiq). They are good cricketers - that does not necessarily make them great selectors. If that was true, then Steve Waugh and Shane Warne should be selecting Australian team.

For all you know some of the choices of the selection committee may have been forced upon them.

Sadiq as selector, caps the comedy of errors by this management. That will rank among the best all time joke of 2010. He is a great umpire no doubts, but asking him to select - ha ha ha ...

Hope this clarifies folks and yes thanks for validating my thoughts appreciate that...you guys rock this blog and together we will rock this weak kneed management soon...till then we will keep them guessing whatznext dude?

Are you serious when you said Sadiq is a great umpire? I guess you have never played a game when Sadiq was umpire..:)

Also, did you hear from the teams in which Sadiq was umpiring in CER, they were almost in tears with Sadiq's umpiring decisions. Prolly that's why they penalized Sadiq's selected thieves in final against GLCC

Since we are talking about umpiring, have you noticed that the teams who are pro management are bringing their own umpires i.e., teams which are on their side, '"politically"?

SUCK_IT_UP said...

Whatznext
So it goes back to the same discussion where we started that the team was there initially from last year. Why do we have to go back and re-trial them? If you agree that 8 seniors should be in the team and the rest can be youngster. That is the same strategy of the prv mght where they had seniors and added few young blood to groom them. There is a perfect example of Pakistani team that is being going through the rough time trying all youngsters.

I agree with you about the respect of the selection committee except this joker Sadiq. Respect is their characteristic that no one is questioning but the work they have performed showed their inexperience.

This must be a great laugh for everyone that Sadiq baba is even a good umpire. He is rather a talkative person who loves to tittle-tattle where people get amazed by him. I disagree with that. He should not be umpiring at all. This is why the mgt is being nailed down assigning the wrong people at wrong positions.

SUCK_IT_UP said...

Management
Also for the record I should let you know that Sadiq Baba arrived late in Milwaukee at 10:40 a.m. The game is supposed to start at 10:00 am. For those who think that everthing is running smooth. Here is one example.

Did any one try the new balls? How did they do? The game of United and AAA had some issues. Any words on that Liasion.

Alpesh said...

Fellow Bloggers,

Along with the other issues you are discussing, there is one more burning issue which needs to be addressed - downsizing of Div 2. This division is near to its extinction. If 2 new Milwaukee teams had not joined this season, it would had been hard to keep Div 2. Can you think of any ways to address this Div 2 issue??

Moaz said...

Division 2 will eventually die out due to the following reasons:

1) The competitive teams have made it to Div 1 over the years and have remained in Div 1.
2) This loss of good div 2 teams shoudl be compensated by the teams that relagted from div 1 to div 2.... but normally that doesnt happen, the relegated teams prefer splitting up rather than going to div 2 (AAA and Rogers Park are exceptions and I have a lot of repsect for them for that) ...
3) a lot of div 2 chicago teams dont like travelling and to avoid that they move to midwest 30/30 or ACC(another 30/30 league in chicago)...Now div 1 teams dont mind travelling as much becuase midwest div 1 is the best competition in the region but in div 2 travelling is the major hurting factor.

In my opinion, the solution is to make div 2 regional,i.e. have two groups of teams, one consisting of just chicago and milwaukee teams, and then the rest of the teams... have a 10 game regular season and then have a super six round or something.

Friends & Folks:

I was more than sure that my sarcastic and light comment on Sadiq's umpiring may bring out the experiences of the inviduals; it does not surprise me a bit when I read the frustrations of few of you.

As regards Div 2 loosing its sheen - I would say that it is extremely important that the management thinks something innovative (will they?).
In fact the first salvo has already been shot, they are setting stage and being prepared to loose it totally.

Why cant they send down 4 to 6 teams from the 1st div into two - vote kaun karega yaar.

These folks lack vision to the future, if anything about the future, they are concerned about their votes and offices.

Shakes & Bakes need some think tank in their jumbo team not empty tank...needless to say empty vessels make more noise....

whatznext dude?

Billoger said...

One way to save Div 2 could be to make Div2 a part of Div1 but have Div2 teams play mostly Div2 teams and few games 2-3 per season with Div1 teams. Sort of like make a sub division and then top 1-2 teams can come play in quarter final with Div 1 teams.

Not sure how Div1 teams will feel about it.

Yes, I would like to enlighten you. Before I that. Could you please answer few of your screw ups:

- why you didn't contact Sohail when you cancel the trials?
- why you didn't select him (he scored 100 & 50 plus in this season)
- how Sachin got in team without showing up for trials?

Seems like you're smoking something, diddn't you look the batting performance in 1st two games. Come out of bag my dear ! You need some growing. Everone looks gold to you but at the end of day you come with excuses. You don't have any thing to show. Results speaks for itself.

I don't want to take you to the laundry room, so when you write next time please do bring some substance to this forum. Otherwise, we will treat you like Sadiq Baba (who is history from this blog).

You better play cricket, which you're some how bit good at it. Don't get into a territory where you will be treated like royal a.....

Yes, this is similar to one of the alternatives Mankesh Sir had suggested. Merge the Div 2 into Div 1 in a way that there are 2 groups. 1st between 1-15 ranked teams (Div 1) and then 16-30 (Div 1 and Div 2) .. Teams play about 10 matches in their own group and 4 with teams from the other group .. and then have top 16 in the play-offs ..

Any other interesting ideas ??

Guys, grouping, ganging, groping is not going to create excitement to retain the teams.

Some thoughts:

a. Make the game innings based. So 40 overs will be played as 25 and 15. I did not have it as 20/20 coz that is an offbeat model. Allow players to be swapped between innings. That is the XI's could be different but with a minimum of two players. This way the players in the roster gets better chance.

b. Allow 1st Div and 30/30 players to play in Div 2.

c. Provide colored uniforms (by MWCC)with team names printed.

d. Have a minimum of two games as night games.

e. While long distance games are not preferred by Div 2. Make the teams playing from distance to visit Chicago. I know there will be some eyebrows going up, but trust me. It is better to be done with them or have it grouped together as outstation teams who play each other and visit Chicago for playoffs.

f. Or maybe incentivize teams to travel by giving additional points.

g. Reduce fees.

h. Div 1 teams relegating to Div 2 need to play additional games to qualify to finals, this makes the probability of Div 2 going up better - I am wondering how to make this happen.

I will keep thinking and share some thoughts, few of which may be radical, however the fanatics that we are, I am sure cricket will be the winner with tinkerings.

Sir John,

whatznext,

n fact the first salvo has already been shot, they are setting stage and being prepared to loose it totally.

That's a little unfair. Alpesh is highlighting a looming issue and asking for ideas. That's a new way to go about handling some league issues - asking for input in a public forum. He hasn't set stage for loosing anything as yet.

He's asked whats next, you shouldn't give him grief for that.

Aditya said...

suck it up,

Did any one try the new balls? How did they do?

We tried the new balls for our game - Milwaukee vs Phoenix. Miwaukee bowled with it for 1 over, and had to change the ball. Before the match started, the box of balls looked really bad to me. Since we haven't tried them for an entire game, they may be better than my first impression, but it really isn't too good at this point.

Aditya said...

Billoger,

Nice suggestion. There are some issues with this though:

a. In effect, only 2 Div 2 teams will make the playoffs instead of the 8 or 10 or whatever have done so in the past. Is that acceptable?

b. The number of travel games is going up - that is one of the bigger problems. People don't want to travel 5-6 games. I think 2-3 games is acceptable for any division, but more is tough.

I'm not trying to say your idea isn't good, but not sure it's good enough to implement. Maybe some changes to it and it will be that way. Thoughts?

Aditya said...

Whatznext,

My thoughts on your points: Very creative. Definitely out of the box, not sure all will be palatable by teams, but each one should be considered.

a. A little too radical if you ask me. It's barely being done in professional cricket (just the Aussies I think)

b. Agreed. Shekhs and team proposed it this year, but it didn't go through. Div 30/30 has voted for no guest players next year. But I think we should open this discussion again.

c. Agreed - time we moved to white balls and coloured uniforms.

d. Definitely a possibility for next year for a "game of the week concept.

e. Don't agree on this one.

f. Not sure how that applies.

g. Done. I think it may be reduced more next year, once the 501c is updated and we get the monies people promised.

h. Can you expand on this?

Nice ideas - keep them coming. Hopefully Alpesh will get the rest of the management team involved.

ps. The opinions are just mine, not management or anything like that.

Unknown said...

Ok..since after numerous requests and not a single reply from selectors on Sohail Alvis exclusion from CER, I think we can conclude that the new management acted out to take revenge on him.

The league was the loser because of these petty politics...

Unknown said...

I agree with you Balajee.. Now it is clear that it is purely due to politics and the loser is MWCC.

Shame on us.

Unknown said...

The best way to find out is to talk to Sohail Alvi. Can Balaji or Poor soul talk to him?

I can guarantee you that there was no bias or petty politics involved in the selection process.
I wasn't part of the process, but I'll find out about sohail and let you know.

I didnt responsd coz I wasnt part of the process.
I know for sure we never picked or discarded anybody based on political standpoint.

Aditya said...

balajee,

C'mon man, you sound like the philosophies you despise. Just because someone didn't respond to an anonymous post in the blog, doesn't mean the worst. Send c8w an email and ask him directly. Or for that matter, any of the selectors. I'm sure they'll respond to you.

This is a blog of opinions, not one to manage the league.

Unknown said...

Aditya,

We have been asking the same question reg sohail alvis exclusion over and over again abt 50 times. Mehul, sadiq, madew have answered other questions or have talked in the blog abt all other selection issues but have left this one question unanswered.

Since we have lost the cer finals abd that too to a batting collapse, it becomes all the more important to know why an experienced player with a penchant for scoring big was not included. I do not know the reasons. It cud be one of three.

1) sohail alvi was not available or didn't want to play- nothing cud be done.
2) sohail wasn't picked bcos he didn't show up for trials..fair enough that he wasn't picked.
But if others like raheeel and asif were picked without attending trials, then its not fair..what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

We need either sohail or someone from selection committee shud explain and put an en to this. They can't choose to answer only the easy questions. Answer the tough ones too. But someone (blogger is my guess) has stated that sohail was available and wasn't picked..if that's the case, the mgmt owes an explanation.

Shekhs said...

Balajee,
Here's what I found out...

And you can be the judge, crucify us (management) or not..it dont matter...

But, since you asked, I thought I'll get to the bottom..

Sohail was available. The selection trials were mandatory only for the Chicago land area folks. So the selection trials was not mandatory for Asif or Sohail.
Raheel was injured for the first 3 trials and was going to show up for the last one, which got rained out.

Sohail was left out of the squad based on the age criteria. The selectors felt that he was a bit too old. Mahesh was picked inspite of age, since Ashher was not available and we needed a back up keeper.

There you go...so you can post mortem how much ever you want..

Unknown said...

Shekhs

I really appreciate your reply. This is the answer everybody was looking from the selectors as to why he was not selected.

Now that it is been clarfied he is not selected due to the age, can soembody verify that what is the age of

Bhavesh
Faisal
Asif, etc

Surprisingly, all their ages were not listed in thier profiles in the website..

May be our Sadiq Baba can come up with the stats for the same..

SUCK_IT_UP said...

Shekhs
This is such a pathetic reason that they came up to save their behinds. If that is the case then they should have mentioned it that we are only considering certain age players. It is such an embarrassment for this fellow to be humiliated in public.

Now we need to know what poorsoul has asked the ages of the rest of the candidates. You have justification about Mahesh since you can not find a better back up keeper. Ram from Peoria was better and younger than him. Why did they not select him over Mahesh? Did they not think about the age?

I suppose Shekhs that no matter how you looked at it you have excluded sohail not because of the age but because of the revenge that the some of the selectors had against him for years. You need to keep your heart clean to do the right things for MWCC.

Could you please come up the ages of all the team members?

Unknown said...

How old is sadiq baba? Lol..I think he is too old to be a selector...hahaha..just kidding guys!

Anyways, I am ok with age being one of the factor for selection. Then they shud have listed the age of all those that were picked and said that we wanted to go with a young team and picked only guys less than 35 or something like that. But let's see what the age of the guys that poor soul mentioned.

Unknown said...

Suckitup,
Ram was the first choice wk and mahesh was the backup. I think mahesh played the finals though.

Shekhs said...

Bhavesh - 36
I only know his age.

Unknown said...

Shekhs,

It wud have been better if u ssid fitness as a criteria than age...I know lot of folks in their 40s with better fitness than guys in their 30s...I dunno how fit or unfit sohail is, but I know he has been among the runs this yr..

SUCK_IT_UP said...

balajee said...

Mahesh should not have been in the team at all because of the age. Ram should be the main keeper and for back one of the younsgter could have gone. Since this is Challenger era no one questions on their players and president will have full justification. Like Bhavesh 36 because they could not find any other younger spinner in the team.

What are Nilesh and Mahesh ages please?

This management made huge fuss last year that scorecards are not being update on time and players profiles are not completed for each team. I suppose they do not care anymore now. This is a change for those who believed in it.

May be Eagles can speak up now. He blasted that team. They will sure tell how fit he was? Also, if you looked at his record since 2001 he has not missed many games that tells the committment and fitness.

And you are right balajee that some of the youngsters are not as fit as older guys. There are still players who are playing 40 overs games as close to the 50 ages. To me this is just bogus reason they came up.

Tendulkar is aged out but still performing.

Unknown said...

Mr. C8w,

If you are going to select players based on the age.. Why the team captains were not asked to provide the list of players available who are less than certain age...

Did you had age as one of the criteria or just created that one now to cover your back....

If it is the one in the beginning what is the cutoff age and why this was not communicated to the teams in advance so that players above that age would have avoided the trails..

Do you want to make a joke of all of players by creating criterias which you only know.. Because you have the power.

Shekhs.. Very kind request please look at this with plain heart and take some action instead of trying to cover the back. Somebody should be accountable for if age is an criteria for selection and the same was not communicated to the teams.

The selectors wasted everybody's time in trials and everything for players whom they know before hand they are not gonna pick...

NOT A FAIR GAME !!!!

Managing this league does not need skill and talent, all it needs is committment and seriousness. The league is a well oiled machinery all you need is to oil it and maintain it, if u fail in this basis function, I am not sure how will work towards upgrading this machinery (league).

Weed out the woods, pick few operational folks who can contribute positive thoughts instead of polarized views and blurred vision.

Time is running out, ur popularity is vaning down faster than the hairline of our stars.

Stand up and deliver with dignity or make way for competency to take stage.

I dunno Asif's.

Like I said before we dont discriminate anybody for anything just because they were in the previous management or any of that kind of thing.

The selectors (Sadiq, Madhu, Ajit, Mehul, Naveed) selected the team. They have nothing against sohail, so I dont see any bias or animosity against anybody.

Lemme know if you need to know anything else..

WoW what a response; everybody has believed it, nobody will now raise the point nor suspect anything about selection.

What trasparency - man - we can see thru everything ;) especially what is in between the lines.

Let me work on your lines a bit and see how it sounds and what it conveys:

- I aint covering anybody's back. I just stated the facts as I know. (There maybe something beyond this, but i cant tell guys be fair)

- Like I said before, you call it Challenger's era or whatever you want to....it dont matter. (we are failing, we will loose, so we decided that when something is inevitable laydown and enjoy)

- I dunno Asif's. (nor do i know about others - do I care?)

- Like I said before we dont discriminate anybody for anything just because they were in the previous management or any of that kind of thing. (yeah! we dont discriminate, we simply drop them)

- The selectors (Sadiq, Madhu, Ajit, Mehul, Naveed) selected the team. They have nothing against sohail, so I dont see any bias or animosity against anybody. ( no animosity or bias, they were just following my instructions)

Lemme know if you need to know anything else..(then i can decide which way to run!)

Peace out guys!! (don't shred me to pieces guys!)

For some reason I beleive shekhs when he says he was not involved in selection. Maybe its bcos he is the one who came out and said that Sohail was dropped due to his age (42). The selectors didnt have the guts to come out and say that.

Since age was a selection criteria and since it wasnt communicated to the teams, I think the selectors had their own agenda. I beleive there were 2 from Peoria selected because of Madew and Romesh was selected because Asif was captain.

I think the selectors should resign immediately and the management should bring forth a new independent selection committee that will layout the reasons and pick the team that would represent MCC in the future tournaments. These selectors just picked their team on their agenda and we didnt field even the third best team that we could have fielded.

Had we discriminated; Nasir, Shankar and Fahad from Flames would not have been part of CER team.
Challengers are the best team in the league and their dominance over one of the best conference in USA speaks for itself. We should've picked more guys from Challengers in my opinion.

So when Adnan give Fahad and Faisal name to chaddi leader in order to advance them to the next round, he will use this excuse that umpire was bad. You got to be kidding.
=============================
So you're saying Player's advancement should strictly rest on the way he performs in CER and his achievements as a highest runs scorer of all times in MWCC and best batsman of 2008 should not be taken under consideration? As far as Fahad is concerned, to me he should be an automatic entry into CER, Western conference and hopefully US National. Hands down these two are the best batsmen in this league in my opinion.
FYI: I don't give names to Chaddi leader. I submit names at my discretion directly to the USACA board.

It is truly said that players were treated real bad there by management. After all they were the superstars and should be taken care with respect. It is ok to spend some money on them from $42,000.

c8w and Sheks,

How come the age criteria was not mentioned on the website? A big fuzz was made about the N,DN and O criteria (which, by the way was adopted only because Adnan knew what he was doing) and there was no mention of "age" by c8w, madhu or mehul??

You guys bothered telling us about months of sleepless nights thinking about a backup keeper and the best you could do was pick someone 40+ !! even if you were sincere, and I hope you were, I guess you would understand why it does not smell right.

I would not have picked Sohail as well, in spite of being one of our best batsman. However, I would not have insulted a senior cricketer like him, especially after he has dedicated many years of his life to this league, by calling him (for that matter other senior citizens) to a trial while knowing that you will have an age criteria.

This is a screwup. And like any scandal the coverup is worse than the screwup. Nixon was thrown out.. Clinton survived.. we have to wait to see what happens to you guys. Good luck.

LolI think if we have a poll in mwcc, atleast 90% would agree that challengers alone will beat GLCC. But our selectors found a way to insert their ignorance into selection and found a way to lose. No wonder sadiq bab was all nervous before the tournament.

Maybe next year, just pick most of the div 1 champions(whoever that is) and just add 5 or 6 youngsters to bolster that team. Like fahad, ikram, ravi u etc..selection can be done in 1 day and we will win too.. sadiq and the great selection committee doesn't have to spend 2 sleepless months...

Saving Div 2 is a political topic as well. It deals with the future of the league, not just predictions for this week. There are other important issues facing the league other than the ages of 5 players. Try not to fixate on one thing alone. Some of the ideas posted by one of you may be just what is required. Here is an opportunity to show you care about the league, not just a particular management. If Div 2 can't be saved, then we will loose the competitiveness of Div 1 too.

If you really want the ages of those 5 players, ask them. Or email c8w directly. But he doesn't seem to be on the blog these days or at least not responding to people he doesn't know. You can keep harping on the age question, but it's starting to sound really old. Try findng out a different way, and then move the discussion along.

Poor Soul,

I think fair is when c8w knows who he is talking to and whom he is getting criticism from. Anyone in our league has the right to ask questions and deserves answers. You may not always like the answer, but you should always get one from your management. But not anonymously on the blog. So, I suspect Shekhs, c8w, etc pick and choose what they respond to. After all, it's like Pepsi - nothing official about it. So if you want them to respond to you, the least you can do is tell them who you are. They owe the poor soul nothing, but the real you is a different matter.

There is a reason people remain anonymous - but it works both ways. You can choose to argue this point with me, or accept it and get the information you want, but the path to getting reponses remains simple and straightforward.

This subject is related to age criteria that was not defined by selection committee. Now you applied this crietria to only one player but the others are being questioned.

Aditya,

I am not coming out in my name and asking for the details simply because I want to be in the team atleast next year if not this year.. And, see what is happening to senior players like Sohail..

I can come out and talk atleast if I feel our president will take some action against people doing wrong.. But he seems to be only backing them up...

Now tell me from where I will get the confidence to come and say my name.. Again, when the selectors and management lectures and preaches about the processes and transperecy in the same blog, don't you think they are obligated to answer the critics also in the blog...

C8w want a place to put his lectures and if someone questions he will run away....

It dones't matter who asks.. just because when you talk about the process and transperancy you do that in public and not in emails. When the team list can talk about N, DN, O and the management goes out and say they dropped somebody due to age, then why don't they come out with the ages of all the players if not in the blog atleast an email to all teams..

I AM SURE YOU WON"T AS YOU DON"T HAVE THE GUTS TO TAKE ACTION OR ACCEPT THE MISTAKES.

WHEN THE MANAGEMENT DOESN'T HAVE THE GUTS TO TAKE ACTION.. I Don't get the guts to come out tooo..

Fair enough right... Anyways, if you guys talked about the transperancy please show that by telling the ages of the people in the team, rather than hiding away by throwing tandrums...

Otherwise, I leave it to the people who are watching this.. Their heart will tell where the truth lies...

Long one... Phew) I am tried...

Aditya said...

Poor soul,

I'm not sure what confidence you need from c8w answering your questions to share your name. I don't see how the 2 are related. Don't share it with us on the blog. Don't even tell c8w that you are masquerading as a poor soul. Just send him an email, or ask a team-mate to, and ask him all the questions you want on selection.

I'm not sure what this has to do with my guts either. I wasn't part of selection. Neither was Shekhs. Selection was done solely by the Selection Committee. That is how decentralization of power works. If Shekhs needs to make a change to the Sel-Com, he has time to do so. There are no upcoming selections for a bit, as far as I know.

I can't answer your questions because I don't have any of the information you want. And you could find the information just as easily as I could - even I'd be interested in knowing what the answers are. I don't necessarily agree with all the decisions of the Sel-Com, and I can't really defend them. I've had some conversations with Sel-Com members since the CER and got some perspective, but I don't know the answers to your questions. My discussions were centered around other topics.

So, if you want answers, ask them. Carrying on in the blog doesn't seem to be working for you, does it? When I had issues with decisions in the past, I would call up the previous management, or email them, and ask them. I've done the same this year as well. Either way, I've always had my name behind it, so with both managements they've always known who to respond to. Everyone is pretty reasonable and provides answers - though you and I may not like them always.

You have a way forward, I'm not sure why you keep insisting on walking into a wall with a sign that clearly says "WALL". Anonymity works both ways. The only people that may be obligated to answer anything on this blog are the administrators, and that too for blog related topics only.

I do want you to get to the answers you are looking for. But help me help you. I've give you a way forward - use it. If that doesn't work, then something odd is afoot.

But at least give it a chance - otherwise everyone "watching" will clearly see that if the senses are dulled, then the heart will never find the truth.

Hi Aditya,

I don't know why you want to come and say this.. May be the selectos wanted to say this and they are asking you to do this...

And atleast thanks for letting me know IT IS THE WALL. THAT MESSAGE CLEARLY SHOWS THAT THERE IS NO TRANSPERANCY.

ANYWAYS THANKS FOR THE ADVICE.. And a word of WISDOM. If Sheks things selection committee did is wrong and then waiting till the next selection to make his changes is not a good appraoch..

May be there is a message he can send across to others.. But yes it is his choice..

And my choice is to remain anonymous atleast for the time being until I get confidence that I won't be vindicated like others...

Anyways,, Thanks for atleast accepting that THE QUESTIONS WILL BE PICKED AND ANSWERED.. AND LECTURES WILL BE POSTED.

AS They can lecture,, I am entitled to ask my questions whether they answer or not..

Now it is very clear that I won't the ages I asked for as they know if they come out their true color will be shown.

Anyways... Thanks for atleast letting me know that I won't get an answer.

Poor Soul,

I was only trying to suggest ways to help you. I don't comment for anyone - they can comment for themselves.

As always, feel free to keep commenting. This is a blog intended for that, not for managing the league. You never know, one or more of your ideas might actually work out to benefit the league.

The blog isn't intended to force people to post lecture, ask questions, or provide answers.

I wish you luck in your quest to find answers anonymously.

So, thoughts on saving Div 2?

a. Is it ok to merge Div 1 and 2 next year, in case there aren't enough teams in Div 2?

b. If we want to keep Div 2, then how do you propose forcing people to accept relegation? Everyone loves promotion, but few accept relegation. (Again, kudos to AAA and RPCC on this)

c. Is regionalization a better answer? The league can be divided into geographical divisions, but then we do away with Div 1 and 2.

Aditya,

I think something radical has to be done, minor tinkering is not going to help.

I think the # of new people playing cricket has reduced. With lower disposable income - on the kitchen table luxuries such as cricket find the axe. I strongly believe that the great recession ate a few teams.

In Div 2 many people just play for fun and others do so becasue 11 cannot be made. So dont think increasing quality/quantity of cricket is going to help. In fact we may need to decrease supply (i.e. quantity of games) so that we can raise the demand (value) of cricket. We need to find a way to make the game more entertaining for the these guys as well.. one idea is 11 bat 9 field. So some who are not keen in standing 40 overs in the sun can rotate fielders and if they have other commitments they can take off!! may be 20 overs with cricket ball and 20 overs with tennis ball !! other thing interesting is one sided batting - less time, less movement, faster games, more energy etc. basically more fun = more involvement. Other way to increase involvement is to find a way to involve families.. that would help in a big way.. cant think of a way right away.. will ask my better half and see if she has any suggestions (dont think am going to get help on this though :)

But the most important question we have to ask is should we save this format? may be 30odd teams is ideal for MWCC? Currently we may be operating past our optimal point - where diseconomies of scale is hurting us !! more politics, more quabling, more election nonsense, more overhead and not much gets done. We are more dejected and decide not to play next year. May be its a good thing dissolve, divest some of the assets i.e. people, teams and grounds to become a lean mean fighting machine :)

I think I am ready for the corporate world.. but boss does not disagree and says tap this computer.

happy cricketing !!

I meant boss disagreees :).. its about time I call it a day!!

and.. c8w, I wont fill your shoes again... this is the last time I am doing you this favor :)

C8W and Mgmt,

Few things needs to be answered and answered honestly.

How come age came as criteria, when same age guy got picked?

Why Old aged got priority over young keeper (Ram)?

Mr. Shekhs Arvind, trials for chicago players only, but never communicated by dumb c8w in his communication - please go and check his communicaiton. c8w use to write newspaper but I don't see him on this blog. he start showing late for games too, its good enough for mgmt to take decision against him. honestly speaking please go and look how many high profile games he did in past mgmt (Div 1 QF, SF or Final). I always saw him in div 3 or 2. That tells you what he deserve, we put too much on his plate and showed that by selecting: Romesh, Sachin, Sankar etc. his beloved boys over the years. On top of all that our mgmt favorite, Nilesh, Bhavesh and Mahesh got in to put "icing on the cake"

Selecting the team based on age falls under discrimination. Oh no, I'm not Adnan and I'm not taking league to court ! People like Adnan came to mgmt from back door, THIS IS THE CHANGE WE WERE LOOKING FOR -- GOOD LUCK MWCC.

Teams doesn't get change 80% for one year to other year when mgmt changes. There is some thing fundamentally wrong.

Aditya, please keep Div 1 as it is. Don't dilute it. Merge Div 2 teams with Div 3. Be honest here, you know Div 2 Teams standard, except top 2 or 3. So, what's the point in bringing them to Div 1.

Region mean killing MWCC, this is our charm. You agree or disagree this is what it is. I would love to go and play against Peoria, Rovers, St.Louis, Purdue etc. Your option is telling me let them play in between them and they will show up for play offs :) not a great idea.

Sometime we've to take tough decisions. Which means abandon Div 2 and let them join Div 1 teams or play in 30/30.

All these political things aside. Someone please for god's sake fix the points table. I've lost count of the number of times we've spoken to other teams, authorities about the stupidity that's our points table.

How hard can it be to find a programmer who will code or just make changes in the existing code for 50$ so that when a team is all out, the NRR calculation is with full 40 overs. For some teams the number of matches played itself is incorrect.

I do hope for our league's sake that the organizers (especially those who pride themselves on stats ) actually have a manual back up points table along with net run rate calculations.

Bleh,

I think they have fixed the points table now....

Dinesh,

Hmm nope. Not yet. Points table is still messed up.
The problem is that in runs scored against each team - it is adding up the number of overs bowled as submitted in the bowling analysis and not taking into account the fact that oppositions may have been bowled out (due to contributions from runouts ).

On the other hand, in the runs scored "For" a team it takes into account the number of overs submitted by a team's batting analysis. I'm not sure whether it calculates entire 40 overs if the scored card is entered as allout in 34.5 overs.

It is really irritating to notice that such an important issue as NRR is not properly handled. IF playoff positions are determined by this faulty NRR, there will be hell to pay.

Aditya said...

Blogger,

I am not suggesting any changes to the Divisions. I agree with you completely - I'm not a favour of regionalization. Others are, because it will reduce travel, but I like being able to play Rovers, Peoria, St Louis, Milwaukee, Purdue, CCI, etc.

As far as making changes is concerned, I'm not changing anything. I can't. But I do know that we may have a problem with Div 2 because in the past, we had 20+ teams, now we barely have 13. It is likely to go down even more unless we do something, which will then mean that there will be no Div 2. I think the league needs help with this problem. We all know that the standard of Div 1 is higher than Div 2 and 3, and if we merge with Div 1, it may not be best for the league.

Keep the ideas flowing. Tata suggests some radical changes, which I as a cricketing purist don't personally favour, but may end up being best for the league. These are things that Shekhs and his team will need to consider.

Dinesh_Rovers said...

So,why is div 3 so popular? Is it bcos there is no travel involved? So if a team from bloomington, ill would wanna play in div 3, would we be denied entry or would we be made to play all games in chicago?

Aditya - nothing wrong in discussing & brainstorming ideas but bigger pictures needs to kept in fron of us when we discuss these things.

Also, someone has to answer these questions:

- New set of balls are as bad as older version - What's the action plan? What kind of balls we will use remainder of season and play offs? wow - a great CHANGE!

- No umpire show b/w St.Louis and Pudue game - what's this? Are we imporving - wow - a great CHANGE!

- Website is not updated appropriately with points table - wow - a great CHANGE!

Blogger and others

I am responsible for the website updates..... There was a calculation problem in the points table for Division I and has been subsequently resolved last Friday. The rest of the corrections with respect to Net Run Rate will be dealt with later as it is not very critical at this stage. Very sorry for any inconvenience to one and all. In future, for any web site errors please send me an email at shiva@midwestcricket.org.

It is my pleasure to share with you the news that our CER Under 15 boys have won the 3rd position among 8 competing teams at the recently concluded USACA National Under 15 Tournament held at New Jersey between July 15th and 18th.

The eight teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each team will play for the top 4 spots. The first teams from the two groups fought for 1 and 2 and the 2nd teams from the two groups fought for the 3rd and 4th spot. We were positioned 2nd in the group as we lost one of the 3 games, this was against New York. Overall we won 3 out of the 4 matches our team played. The match for the third spot was keenly contested, we were all out for 118 in 39.3 overs and got the oppositioned bowled out for 112 in 38.4 overs.

As the coach of the team, I feel extremely delighted to let you all know that we have identified few exceptional talent who are ready for the next level.

Please join me in congratulating the team on its achievements.

The match reports for each day can be found at dreamcricket.com. Here are some of the links:

Blogger,

I agree that the new sets of balls are pretty bad. I'm sure Shekhs and team are working on getting us better balls. Give it a few more days, and I'm sure we'll have an update soon. I did have a chat with him a few days ago, and he said that he is working on it with the vendors.

As far as the umpiring is concerned, that's bad, but you can't blame management. If the individual decides not to show, it's his fault, right? Or did Marghoob Bhai and team not assign someone? I'm sure steps will be taken to minimize such occurrences. It's happened in the past as well.

As for the website, Shiva provided an update. It's a very old and not well maintained site, so such things will happen from time to time. But it's easily resolved with no damage done. I think the important thing here is that Shekhs and team do bring CHANGE to the website at the very least!! :)

So, what ideas do you propose?

Aditya said...

Dinesh,

My understanding is that Div 3 is a 30 over division without any travel. Therefore, away teams such as yours will have to join Div 2 (if we have one next year) and then move up to Div 1 (as you guys did). This is part of the attractiveness of Div 3, and the demise of Div 2.

Alpesh said...

Aditya ...

Also Purdue were playing St Louis for the first time in the regular season, after Purdue moved to Div 1 5 years back. So this was a first time and since, both are away teams, it may have been difficult for Marghoob bhai to assign the umpires. But I remember that he was trying hard to find the umpires.

Aditya,
Why cant league just go back to the Grays balls from last year instead of experimenting again and again. Let's face it that you have tried 2 or 3 suppliers and they all have failed.
You have one supplier who provided excellent product, why still experiement?

Thats what we are gonna do..
We are already talking to the same old vendor for Grays..

Duh...that was Nippon's plan to break your bats and then sell you some more bats :)

Rajiv said...

Shrek is right. These new set of balls really really suck. They are damaging our bats and I think we should really not use these.

I think the league should consider this and avoid using those balls. Last thing you want is a team in playoffs with new bats because the ball broke all old bats...

I have spoken a couple of other teams regarding this and their bats are also damaged. Everyone thinks its like throwing a piece of stone at the bats.

Unknown said...

I agree. The new set of balls are not good. We (NightHowlers) played one game with it and quality is not good. I think first set is not bad at all (I didn't find anything wrong with it). I believe, better skilled bowlers were complaining about swing but for us that is not a problem ;)

As Mr. President said,
