Elections: 2008

Fellow cricketers,

I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to stand for President of the MWCC in the upcoming elections in 2008. Tariq and his team have done a fantastic job in helping our league get to this level, but with some new leadership and ideas we will be able to elevate this talented league of ours to the next level. I believe that I can achieve this.

I have spoken to Tariq about my intentions to run for office. He appreciates that I let him know and has wished me the very best.

I plan to go through your suggestions in the ideas page and will be providing more information on my team and the agenda in the next couple of weeks. Please feel free to add more thoughts / suggestions to that list.

In the meanwhile if you would like to be a part of my team, please let me know via email at
jaggi@midwestcricket.org

Good luck to all the teams in the Semis and Finals.

Way to go Jaggi! We definitely need new leadership that can bring about changes in this league. All bloggers wanted it they got it now. This is golden chance for everyone who is festered up with working of current system. Thanks for make this happen. Its high time. Go Jaggi!

Its unbelievable that even the elections have a Tango impact!!!

My campaign to become president has just ended.
Jaggi has won the primary for all those who wanted change.
Congrats and all the best hoping your wish comes true.
I know you have the ability and will take this wondeful league of ours to a greater high once elected.

Good to hear that ur running for Pres next year, Jaggi.

It is true that the current President definitely has done a lot for this league in the past decade or so but Change is always good especially when it comes from hard working and sincere individuals as urself. Wish you the best of Luck during next years elections. It will definitely be nice to hear some of your proposed ideas for the league if you get elected.

Leadership finally surfaces in the name of Jaggi. I cannot wait to see who is part of his team.

This league is going down the drain over past years. A change of ideas can really benefit this league. I hope and pray that Tariq Ahmed gives this up without playing any games, for the betterment of this league.

Unknown said...

Jaggi this is a so wonderful news and believe me and my team's vote is for you and full support also.

One suggestion lets call a general body meeting and change little rules of election.

There should be election for VP,General Secreatory and Treasurer. There should no concept of panel.

Lets have indivual election for each post so there should be no monopoly of one group.

Unknown said...

This is great NEWS!!!!! I think the current Administration has done a lot for the league, but 5 terms is 3 too many. This league needs new ideas, new leadership and fresh blood. In light of Jaggi, I think this will be a great contest. I totally agree with the suggestion of having independent elections for VP, Secretary, Treasurer and Business Officer. This will introduce checks and balances into the Executive Body. Good Luck Jaggi and I will support you in your bid to the Black House (it is quite a Thankless office). Hope you understand what you are signing up for

Unglibaba said...

Jaggi,
It is a terific news, congratulation in advance. Also one little suggestion that see if Rup can be as Vice President and Tushar can be as General Secretary. Tango, shekhs, Adi in your general adviser commitee. This is just general humble advice. Either way you have my fully support.

Unknown said...

Jaggi congratulations not atlast some new ideas will be coming in.

I'm 100% sure that Jaggi you will bring best to this league and will keep all the promises.....

Let me give one example of TA n his team n how they keep their promises. In last election they promised for new website for MCC and even they showed up that on election day but after that nothing happen.

One more thing I agree for open election for President,VP,Business Officer,Secreatory and executive members.Lets be more democratic over here

Unknown said...

Bond I agree with you for Rup,Tushar,Adi,Tango but not for Sheks as we never got any postive idea from Sheks about MCC on this blog.

Nothing personal, but I was thinking that all people on the blog knows and hava very good term, and also he will learn to be new breed of executives.

Unglibaba said...

Yes very sorry that I've forgot to mension about Romeen. He must have to be part of new era. Mehul and Dax, I'm not so sure what they can contribute to new generation of Leaders. Again very sorry Romeen.

too bad 1 team has only 1 vote (I believe Adnan wants to change this if elected).

Hey Ram,cut it out. It is time to get serious and need to find out who can do what? Sorry I'mnot trying to insult, but it may take away awareness, and blogers may start pulling each other's leg. Let fisrt settle down and we will have plenty of time to fool around. Hey Rup, What can you help Jaggi out to achieve goal? And dno't forget you might be important piece of link in new era.

Good job bloggers. Guess everything starts here. Jaggi never said much and spoke correctly when he did. Seems like a good example for leadership.

Do me one favour: know already plans to change de leadership but change de balls, change de uniforms and change some em upires.

Advancers juggernaut still going but what a match it was......

Chicago Giants fought till last even Vasid and Yaseen got out but still they never gave up......

Match was intense and fought till last moment. What a sprit of Chicago Giants.......few players got emotional after the lost and we Advancers really feel sorry for them.We feel just a bad day for them.

Chicago Giants don't worry.U guys r great gun and I am sure next year u guys will surely in finals.

Kudos to Chicago Giants for never give sprit

Rup said...

Yep the Giants/Advancers was another thriller.
After umpiring the Purdue/St.Louis game one will say i was done for the day.
But i watch the end of Muslim/United.
I could't bear to leave the ground.
I wanted to get a couple cold ones to watch the end but the I said i may miss this. 45 runs, 5 overs, 3 wickets in hands and Giants almost pulled it off.
Going into the last over I said it in giants favor. momentum and 9 runs to get and 1 wicket.
What a game.. I'd say the best in the playoffs so far. Kudos to both teams.
I enjoyed it and wish everyone the best for their future games.

Rup said...

Just look at the forcast.
Next Saturday 85 degrees and sunny..Rain on Sunday and 79.

Mgt: Lets get all three finals 1, 2 and 30/30 in on Saturday.
Lets spend a few buck and make a Finals Sunday. Lets get some food and soft drinks out for all the payers and spectators.
Put a tent up in one and play on 2,3 & 4.
9:30am start for 1, 10am start for 2 and 11 am start for 30/30.
Can we make this happen guys.
If Mgt can't do this for financial reasons can we volunteer ourselves and get this done.
I am calling you out.. this will not cost much per person if all the teams involved and supporters chip in. I say max $10.00 per person will cover this.
6 teams = 72 players. 50 spectators min. This will give us revenue of $1,220.00. This should be enough for a tent and food.
I can look to get some music if permitted??
What da ya al sey!!!!!

Alpesh said...

Rup,

I would say to have tent on WP-4 or 2 ground as one can see all the three matches from there ... And we can also have some commentary going on ...

I am in for contributing some money for the memorable finals ...

As for score - Batting first Advancers scored 202 for 9 or all out I cannot remember. In reply Giants were all out for 195.

Unknown said...

I am in for contribution Rup,I don't think this mgmt will do anything. This mgmt is fit for any noting

Rup said...

We do not have much time so who is willing to talk to Mgt to see how this will go on their end before we decide on our end. Lets give them the first shot at making this happen.
I got a busy couple days ahead but I will be free from Wednesday afternoon.. Too late for me to start the talks. I am in 110% to see this happen but my time for this starts till wednesday evening.

Alpesh,
Ground 4 will be the perfect place for the tent but unless we can solve the run up problem on 1 by sunday then we need to use 2,3 & 4.
The run up on one needs to be covered with the turf. The north end run up has a huge hole. plus we have rocks flying all over the place after the delivery?.

Tonald Drump said...

Rup,

I am in. I will do my best to attend this if these finals do get held on Saturday. Drinks and Food are a no go for me due to Ramadan. But its the playoff atmosphere that appeals to me.

Why are we using 1. the run ups are pretty bad or are the fixing it for the finals?.
What about the food stand guys??.
Are we up for this.

Rup,

I have a feeling that there will be no infrastructure setup for Saturday's festivities. I think this one will be up to us. I'm in, and I'll bring my $10 (or whatever) plus the remainder that I owe you from our Horizon days! :-)

Aditya said...

IIT is on a mission, and they've played very well this entire season. With a team as focussed as this, it's difficult to predict against them, but I will do so and go with the Advancers... but only just. Either team will be a deserving winner and good luck to both.

Purdue vs MG is a tough one to predict. Both have had some big wins this entire year, but none will matter going into the final game. I'm going with Purdue for one major reason - I was the first one to pick them as the team to get to the finals and win it all. Again, may the best team win. Refreshing to see that we will have a brand new winner whatever the outcome may be.

ice_cold said...

My Predictions:

Division 1:
If Neurtal Umpire: Purdue Wins

If Rogers Park Umpire: Muslim

Div 2: IIT

Unknown said...

Both matches are interesting re-matches that will be taking place...my predictions:

Div 1: Purdue - too good of an all-round team that should win this game in the end.

Div 2: Advancers - too hungry of a team for the championship and their chances of being #1 were hampered by a combination of rain and IIT earlier this season. At least this weekend, they will only be up against IIT as their opponents (if the match is for sure being played on Sat).

Good luck to all 4 teams!

Rup said...

Man I am too busy.
I should be ok from tomorrow.
Adi, Thanks for the offer.
The ICC refund will go towards this.
Do you know a good food place where we can cater some food at a reasonable price?.
Anyone has a contact # for the tent people who can bring the tent, set it up and pull it down + tables and chair.
Gatorade and water is an easy fix as we can get that at Sams Club.
Jaggi Can you contact the 4 captains and see if they are in on this?

ice_cold said...

Rup it's really great what you are trying to do.

It's about time people step up because the management is too busy enjoying the money they made off our dues this year.

Are there any other people who will be running for president besides Jaggi/Tariq?

Jaggi,
How are you going to expose yourself to the teams in Div2 and 30/30? I am not sure how well they know you in Div2.

Jaggi said...

The management will revisit the decision to play at Ground 1.

Rup, I realize that the management has not communicated the arrangements for Saturday. Going based on history, there has always been food and drinks for the players even though it that has never been communicated.
There is a fine line that I would probably cross by trying to arrange things for this year's final. I am going to let the management take care of all the arrangements for this year's finals.

Ice-Cold, you bring up a good question. In div-2, I have friends in atleast half of the teams. I agree, that I have not had much interaction with the teams in div-30/30.

The team that I plan to have will have people who understand Div-2 and Div 30/30. I definitely plan to get to know the teams that I have not had a chance to interact with.

Win or lose, I think it will be a learning experience. I want to thank all of you that have emailed me expressing support and wishing to be part of the group.

I hope that everybody will remain active on the blog after the finals. I plan to have a get-together in the next couple of weeks to get some preliminary discussions going. I have been lucky to find a sponsor for the event. Dream Cricket(www.dreamcricket.com) will be sponsoring the first gathering.

Guys,
Muslim against purdue will be a good fight, i disagree with someone who said earlier that nuetral umpire will win purdue a match. purdue is a good team and so is muslim and may the best team win.
Purdue:
Strength:
Ruchir: loves to loft anything that's full and very good with pull after checking a ball or two.
ashwin: can't hit the ball straight outside 30 yards with his life on line. tries to run for everything and talks.
great runner between the wickets and good cricketer in gerneral .
sachin: man of the moment. like this guy make him play short of length. shaky initiallly atrong afterwarrds. ask st. louis.
vijay P. good slugger.
Weakness:
Chintan: only decent bowler who has good yorker length ball that moves initially, other than that, ruchir goood pace no line or length. every body else will give you 3 balls to hit in the over.
Muslilm Gym:
Strength :
! to 8 Sluggers mentality except afroze and farhat. imran loves to play straight get long on and long off and you have a chance kami get deep midwicket and you are good mehmood get a guy on 50 yards on both side in straight. afroze loves cover and extra-cover.

guys good luck and may the best team win.

Yes, was very disappointed initially but then realized that the WC played well, lost to a team that played better, and it was a close, well fought game.Congratulations to Muslim Gym on a great win! And congratulations to Purdue on being in their first ever MWCC finals!
I think its going to be a great game and count me in for all the festivities. I spoke with Tariq and they are already organizing everything including lunch.
On a side note, I'm sad to inform you guys that Tariq's father is seriously ill. Please join me in praying for his recovery.

Rup, guys,

The only place with biryani, curries, naan, etc type food that I know of, which is cheap, tasty, and oily. It's downtown at hole in the all type places such as "Zaiqa" and "Baba's Palace". There are other places, but it's going to be more expensive. Does that sound good?

Sadiq, maybe you can suggest some places with kabaabs or something similar in the area that you may know of.

Aditya,

There are several good restaurants on 55th street, East of WP that cater to the UofC crowd.

There's a desi place as well...very economical, owned by an Indian of Kenyan origin IIRC.

Its been ages since I visited that place...can't remember the name...I believe Swetal had mentioned it in one of our threads when we discussed food.

Check it out...

It was Bhavesh Amin's B'day, and boy did he have a happy B'day..

It was a Bhavesh amin show...

Won the toss for Challengers..

Played a scintillating knock of 81, no chance at all...
With Mahesh pitching in with a brilliant 35, Challengers posted a mammoth 217.

Daxx and Sanjay bowled extremely well..
Then again, it was a Bhavesh Amin show...bowled brilliantly to take 4 wickets with 3 bowled (IIRC)..

Muslim got bundled out for 80-90 (IIRC).

End of the day...We have a championship...
Awesome season Challengers!!

Good luck to Muslim for their Day Finals!!

forget about the money. Get us some good food. So what if we have to pay and extra 5 for good food.
Some good Curry and rice/Pita should be fine.

League is providing for the teams so there will extras if we have to.
This is the bloggers and followers treat. one last day so lets make it a treat.
Shekhs call me this afternoon so we plan on this for the cold ones.

If you guys are planning to pick up desi food from Downtown, best place i can recommend is Flaming Wok (if i remember the name correctly) which is a little North of Chicago/Halsted. They have better food than Zaiqa/pakeeza/Baba IMHO.

Jaggi,
Are you planning to come to the ground tomorrow to introduce yourself. Also it would be nice that you can say a few things which you plan to do if you become president. Who are the people on your team...etc. This will in understanding your stance and people will actually read/comment it on blog while season is not finished yet.

Rup, I realize that the management has not communicated the arrangements for Saturday. Going based on history, there has always been food and drinks for the players even though it that has never been communicated.
-----

BTW, my memory isnt what it used to be... but didnt there used to be food for more than just the players at the finals, historically? ie food also for a fair number of people watching?

I remember the past few finals at Hanover Park.. on the really cold days, there was a tent with a heater in it, and unless I remember wrong, the food was sufficient for much much more than just the players (the crowd was never huge, 50-odd people maybe, and there was sufficent food for them, wasnt there?) I dont know if things have changed, but if they havent there might well be food provided already (has anyone checked with management yet?) It will usually be food from Arshad Yusuf's place. So, there may actually not be a need to go to Rajun Cajun. (If there is, of course, someone can call them and order at noon, and make a run down and pick it up if neccessary.. I think RC is on 53rd street or some such).

Anyway. If not, there are places nearby where something can be picked up. Ram is wrong - there arent really any good restaurants in Hyde Park ;-) - but there are other places nearby that have good food. (Harold's is the best fried-chicken chain in the city by far, and there is one 200 yards from Washington Park on Garfield. Or else one more Harold's on 53rd street too. Or, if you go down to 82nd street and Cottage Grove, you can get the best Jerk Chicken in the city outside of Rup's home :-) But again, none of this may be neccessary as food may already be provided.
