Week 13 - Results

In order to facilitate all discussions, we have decided to separate the discussion threads. If you want to talk about political hot-topics, then there will be a thread for that. If you want to talk about week 9 predictions, results, and other discussions.

If we see comments starting to spill over, we will be forced to monitor and censor them in order to keep the discussions separate. Note, the goal is not to prevent or suppress any form of discussion, but instead to facilitate all types of discussions.

This thread is for results for week 13, and other games related topics.

Shekhs bhai .. match report on your game ??

Shekhs said...

Appu,
It was the best game challengers played this year. A good game, that could've gone either way, but we held our nerve and came up with the "W".

I think Sadiq should write a report, since he was the Ump....and will describe better..

One highlight of the game was that EX Windies Test Player Leo Gerrick played for Milwaukee and scored 58 and also bowled pretty good. It was fun playing against an international player.

no one here talks about 30/30 :( Least I do - it was a good match match against MWCA, was impressed with the academy coaching so many kids - over all a decent win for us . Looking forward for win against Hawks ....

Night howlers remain a touch contenders in this league , but I am sure Juggernauts will prove too massive to them

Unknown said...

NightHowlers beat South Barrington on Sunday. NightHowlers batted first and scored 226 in 30 overs. I believe, South Barrington scored around ~130(was not there half the game so don't know the exact score).

8/7/2010 is when Juggernauts hosts NightHowlers at Hanover Park so will see then ;)

On a side note, it is good to see few teams playing younger generation. I played NPD(Naperville Park District) game on Sunday and got thrashed by 19 year old Srijay, who ended up scoring 100 in around 50-60 balls (including around 10 6s).

Shekhs said...

hey Ssharathh....I'll talk about about 30-30.. :-)
we (deepark) had a good time playing against you (juggernauts)..too bad the game got rained out.

You guys are a good team...

Nighthowlers are the team to beat..yes..

Shekhs said...

..impressive knock by Srijay...
kudos to the youngster!!

Hope he'll play some big ones in our league soon...will have to start watching Phoenix games now..

Unknown said...

Shekhs, I don't think he can play for us with your exclusivity rule if he plays for a different league then won't be allowed to play in midwest correct?

Shekhs said...

Imran,
The exclusivity rule is only for ACC. This was in place even before the new management took over.
We dont stop players from any other league except ACC to play in our league and vice versa.

So, Srijay or anybody else can play in any other league except ACC.

Let me know if you have further questions.
Thanks
Shekhs

We r looking forward to playing nighthowlers this weekend, specially for me as I played with a lot of the NH guys and r good friends. It will be a fun match. Talking abt warriors, we beat hawks in very convincing fashion, Saqib has got to be the one of the best bats in the league period (130 in 68 balls). Our bowling is peaking, so we r all excited...

Mitul: Buddy, it takes some great heart and very high level of sportsmanship to appreciate others performance. Hats off and my salute to you for highlighting Srijay's performance! Just to add, it was Srijith my 10 year old younger son who held your catch at point.

As Srijay's father, I am truly proud of his performance against your team in NPD, in fact this is his second back to back century, he made a 40+ ball 104 last week in NPD.

Last week in MWCC he made 41 playing for Phoenix on Saturday and made a 5 ball 20 (including 3 sixers at heritage park) playing for Rockers Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon he scored 104!

He has had some good outings this season including a 24 againsts Pak Gym, 62 against AAA. He has also been among wickets.

The encouragement that he gets from a selct few good hearts like you, Aditya, Athreya, Uday, Paresh and our other folks in Phoenix & Rockers & Friends (NPD) will hopefuly motivate him and help him perform.

Thanks once again, you are a true sport, it is my privelege to be associated with folks like you!!

Shekhs bhai .. match report on your game ??

I umped the Challengers win (and also the Wildcats win on Saturday in Mossville vs Rovers). Long weekend - but surprisingly actually 2 games got played in full despite rain/flooding etc across the midwest!

Saturday was Rovers/Wildcats. Wildcats batted first, and lost 2 early wickets - Romeen and Sanjay. But then Nikhil and Ajit turned the game around - long stabilizing partnership. Ajit got a terrifc 49 before a direct-hit runout. Nikhil played one of the best captain's knocks seen in ages, with the teams season on the line with early trouble he first stabilized, then consolidated, then attacked - got 90* by the end. Could hardly seem to walk in a straight line by the end (it was 90+ degrees).. but kept pushing for 2's and the odd boundary. Wildcats were 70/2 at 20 overs, but hit 59 in their last 6 overs (Nikhil and Satish batting terrifically together, one terrific six from Satish too), to get to 199.

We then had an extended lunch-break - waiting out a lightning storm in the vicinity, before restarting.

On the restart the Wildcats bowled and fielded terrifically - Rovers were missing Vijay and Ravi, 2 aggressive openers, which hurt quite a bit. Dinesh tried to make up by attacking more than usual. Dinesh looked very good early (including one beautiful six), but Satish was bowling brilliantly at the start, and giving the other end fits. He got 2 early wickets, the opener well-caught behind by Vikram, then Prashant clean-bowled. Rovers were 40/2 in 9 overs... but then Dinesh was beautifully drawn out of the crease by Sanjay and well stumped..and then the Rovers suddenly slid, losing one wicket in each over for the next 5 overs! (Sanjay and Surya doing the damage, with some very solid catching in the field to back them up). Rovers fell to 69/8 after 20 overs with the sudden collapse after over #9. Post-break they fought hard, Puneet hung in well, but the blows in the middle were too much to overcome, and they eventually fell for 97 allout. 3 wickets for Satish (terrific spell, IIRC 3/11 in 7 overs), and 3 and 2 for Sanjay and Surya.

Good win for Wildcats, bringing them back into the playoff picture. Tough loss for Rovers - but at 6-4 they are still solidly placed in the table, and should hopefully get a couple of players back soon.

It was the best game challengers played this year
--
Great game, 2 days after the Great Milwaukee Flood! The river flooded the ground knee-high, and into houses across the street at Lincoln (damaged property still on lawns)..and yet dried by Sunday! Milwaukee had Leon Garrick, former Jamaica and West Indies player (huge talent, played for WI early 2000s).

Challengers started very well - Wade clean-bowled Manish, hit the side of offstump.. but the bails amazingly didnt fall :-) Manish promptly responded by hitting Wade for 2 huge sixes over midwicket next over! 29 for Sheks, 23 for Manish, Challengers 86/2 in 15 overs and looking great. But then Sheks fell, and Challengers slid either side of break - gorgeous spell of spin from Asif (8-2-15-2, getting Mahesh and Nilesh), best he's bowled all year, turning it, with control and variety.. Challengers slid from 86/2 in 15 overs to 116/6 and 147/8 (in 34 overs). But thats what makes the Challengers champs - huge depth and never-say-die spirit. At 8-down Nirav Amin was still there as usual, and Sanjay joined him - and they put on 55 in the next 6 overs, to carry Challengers to 202/8 in 40. Awesome game-winning partnership -Nirav 37*, top-score, and Sanjay 17*.

203 was always going to be a big target, but Milwaukee fought hard. Lost Kabir and Romesh early to some terrific bowling from Sanjay (22/2), but Garrick and Adnan stabilized with a 92-run partnership (Garrick starting with a brilliant smack thru covers off Manish). It was 84/2 at break, 119 to win in 20.

Terrific atmosphere, good crowd (Evanston had a bye,the entire Evanston team plus some ECC club members drove to Milwaukee to watch). High-quality intense cricket in the middle - an international player smacking the ball (but not getting far on the still-heavy outfield).. the undefeated current champions battling hard, bowling with economy and control, squeezing the runs, letting ask and pressure rise. Nirav had 4 overs for 18, Bhavesh 3 for 14. Ankur came on after 23 overs, with the ask at 6.5.. and bowled beautifully, 5 overs for 20. Adnan fell to Afroze for 35, it was 119/3in 29 overs, 84 off 11, lots of batting to come.

At this point the Challengers decided to bring back Nilesh to bowl thru (6 overs) at one end, Ankur and Afroze to bowl thru at the other end.

Garrick fell for 58 - very good innings. Terrific to watch, solid technique, 5 beautiful fours on a very heavy outfield, but especially great to see our leagues talent managing to hold him an international in check. 132/4 in 32 overs, 71 needed off 8. Asif and Khawar in - and both were terrific. Asif batting beautifully, scooping balls from outside off to fineleg for twos, lacing balls wider outside off thru point for four. Khawar was explosive - hitting Afroze for a big six, then Nilesh for 2 fours. While Asif scored at a run-a-ball and rotated to Khawar, Khawar blasted 2 sixes and 3 fours in a rapid 33. With 71 needed off 8 overs, it went 7, 7.. 57 needed off 6 overs. Then it went 11, 11 of the next 2 overs as Khawar exploded - suddenly 34 needed off 4 overs. But then Afroze had Asif caught, and conceded only 3.. 31 off 3. 8 came off Nilesh's next - 23 to win off 2. Khawar promptly launched Afroze for 6.. 17 off 11 balls! But then Afroze clean-bowled Khawar next ball, and conceded 4 off the last 4 deliveries.

So, 13 to win off the last over, Nilesh with the ball. Shakir hit 3 off the first, Wade 2 off the 2nd, and ran a bye off the 3rd.. 7 to win off 3 balls, 6 to tie. But then Nilesh clean-bowled Shakir.. 7 off 2. Clean bowled Dr. Ali first ball next up..and then forced a play-and-miss last ball.. finished the game with 3 dot balls (2 of them wickets), and a win for Challengers by 6 runs.

Brilliant game, and one that had everything - terrific batting, good pace bowling, a gorgeous spin spell, atmosphere, lively crowd, seesawing fortunes, high quality cricket, an intense, pressure-packed run-chase, and a wafer-thin margin at the end. Best game Ive umpired all year, IMHO.

Alpesh,

Thanks for the clarification. I expected as much. But it only makes sense to post in the other thread if the response is equal. Shekhs answered my question when I posted here but not when it was posted on the other thread.
Just as with the exclusivity rule, some rules can be overlooked as long as things don't go out of hand.
After all you guys are "administrators" not "enforcers". Please understand the difference between the two.

PS: you could've moved all the comments to the other thread instead of deleting them now there is no record of anything that was said

Alpesh said...

Bleh,

Several bloggers had requested for a separate thread and that is the reason we created it. I did not find much wrong with you posting a political comment here as a one-off case, but then it prompted others too to start posting non-games related comments here. Hence, we had to take a tough stance to censure them.

Also there is no easy approach to move the comments from one thread to another, other than manual copy-paste.

Billoger,

I do not want to delete your comments. But post it on the thread where it belongs too.

Happy Blogging ...

Sikander Soleja seems to be in the form of life ... Just witnessed another cyclonic innings from him ... His team (Karachi CC) were in a shaky situation with 76/5 in 12-13 overs chasing 135 against Centurions ... Enter Sikander and he blasts 44* off just 11 balls with 5 sixers and 2 balls .. and wins the match with Afroze with about 4-5 overs to spare ... terrific hitting where others were finding it difficult to hit under the lights ...

I just witnessed a great game. I had the best possible seat - umpire.

Hustlers XI vs. Rockers.

Hustlers XI batted first and put up a decent total. Thanks to 82 from one of their middle order batsman. Great knock from him.

Rockers chased the target with 3 overs remaining. They opened with SRIJAY and SHWETAL. Both are a good bat. Srijay was aggressive and stayed not out at 90. Great knock buddy!

I have to mention the temperament of Srijay in the middle overs was crucial for Rockers as even at 20 over mark they needed 6 per over to win.

Moreover he has played a 40-40 on Saturday, a 25-25 on Sunday morning where he scored 50 and then this 30-30 where he scored 90 not out. Keep it up!

Unknown said...

Rajiv: Thanks for your kind note!
Srijay scored 67 (35 balls) this morning at NPD and followed it up with a 90 not out at Heritage Park against Hustlers who set a target of 165 to win. Rockers made this in 22 overs.

In the morning and noon game Srijay shared an opening partnership of 98 with his partner.

Thanks,

Unknown said...

I need to mention the wonderful allround performance of Shwethal. He not only grabbed 4 key wickets but followed it up with a wonderful opening partnership with Srijay.

It was a wonderful team work at display with Paresh, Anil and Mohan chipping in with wickets and the team rallied around the bowlers with some outstanding fielding and some good catches.

Srijith who played the NPD game this morning claiming 1 for 10 of 2 overs; fielded with Rockers as substitute for few overs.

Thanks,

Madison Vs Titans
---------------------

Titans beat Madison by 6 wickets yesterday.

Madison won the toss and batted first, and lost Mansoor early. Both the teams were playing with the Grays ball. After Mansoor's loss, Madison found hard to score runs with Tafazzul and Ahsan bowling flawless. But Madison still managed to keep their wickets intact. At about in the 16th over, 17 year old Anuj started off with a dream spell. In his first 3 overs, he had 4 Madison batsman clean bowled - all middle stumps. Anuj generated good pace and was awesome. He bowled 8 overs at a trot and gave 28 runs for his 4 wickets. Madison then lost the plot and were all-out for 118 in 36th over. For us, apart from Anuj, Tafazzul claimed 2 wickets, while Ahsan and Faraz claimed 1 wicket each. We also introduced an off-spinner in this match, who bowled really well ( It was none other than Faraz, who changed roles for team's sake).

Our chase started disastrously with Vaibhav getting out of duck in the first over and Tafazzul also given out caught behind soon after. Mughiz too departed to a good catch in the slips and we were 29/3. Faraz and Ahsan then dropped the anchor and started to built up a partnership. Faraz was solid as usual, but Ahsan played some glorious cover drives. Faraz got out while trying to hit out after scoring a valuable 31. Ahsan and Myself then took Titans to the win without further damage.

Our Men of The Match for this game were the young Anuj and Ahsan.

Also the Madison team were good hosts. I saw somebody in their team had got the Pineapple Fanta ... it taste real good. Worth trying out.

Let me spice up the discussion a bit. 32 points will post any DIV 1team to playoff berth.

I guess Challs, Peoria, Flames, Muslim Gym & Wildcats will make it to the playoffs.

Pak Gym, Rovers & Bears stand a very good chance.

If at all AAA makes it to the playoff I really don’t know if the team deserves. But the team is very lucky. But AAA it is not going beyond quarter finals anyways. Honestly I have nothing against AAA. The team is extremely friendly.

Couple of other teams must be very lucky to grab one of 2 playoff spots. It all depends on how the other tentative and playoff teams win the rest of the games and the lucky teams win all of the remaining games.

2010 Finals candidates may be Challs, Peoria, flames & X (I will let others imaginary horses running now. Heheh). Lets keep the blog on fire.

India SL Test:-

Randiv to Sharma, OUT, Drama here! Ump Tucker first says not out before he reverses his decision and gives it out. This is what happened: It was a flighted delivery on the middle and leg, it spun past the waft , hit the pad and went to short-leg. No bat there. It went straight of the pad. The fielders appeal. The ump says not out. They appeal again. Shake of a head. They seemed to be resigned to the decision when he suddenly raises the finger. Gone! Ishant has to go back.

Similar to one of the decisions in the Jaguars Vs Titans match.

Some big results today, despite water-logged grounds. Evanston saw 2 Div1 games played - in the first the Wildcats edged the Flames in a thriller, which greatly improves their chances at the playoffs. In the 2nd StLouis convincingly beat MuslimGym - a very big win for StLouis pulling them clear of the relegation zone, and hurting badly MuslimGyms chances for the playoffs.

In the Flames/Wildcats game, the Flames batted first and started very well - 37/0 in 8 overs. But they were pulled back by wickets falling on a regular basis - Jason 16, Fahad 15, Kiran 13, Jacques 22. Sikander was the only one who held on for a logn time, getting 39. 3 wickets for Sanjay and Krishna, and 2 for Javed. Flames ended 141 in 30, a good score on a heavy outfield.

Wildcats started horribly, 3/2 in the 2nd over losing Akhil (direct hit runout from Nasir) and Romeen. But then, once again, they were rescued by the tag team of Nikhil and Ajit (just like 2 weeks ago at Rovers).. before Nikhil fell for 32 at 81/3 in 18 overs. Flames then went to the veteran pair of Krishna and Yousaf-bhai to slow down the pace, and throttle the scoring.. Krishna picked up 4 wickets. Wildcats went from needing 61 to win off 12 overs when Nikhil fell, to needing 44 off 6 overs. The Flames fought hard - 2 more direct-hit runouts followed and the Wildcats accelerated and lost wickets. It was 35 off 5, 27 off 4, 22 off 3 (with 3 wickets in hand). It came down to 12 off 2 and 5 off the last over (with 2 wickets in hand).. but a couple of clutch hits by Krishna carried Wildcats home with 3 balls to spare.

In the later game, MuslimGym collapsed against some good bowling and terrific catching from StLouis. Despite some wonderful batting from Fawad (came in at #3 and was 54* at the end), MuslimGym collapsed to 115 allout with 4 overs left. StLouis lost an early wicket, but some terrific hitting by Mir put them on track, and Girish followed up with 43* to carry them home with 7 wickets and a lot of time to spare.

Meanwhile in Div2, Titans lost a tight game against Arena by 12 runs - 234 by Arena, with a fifty for Prashant and yet another fifty for Samir. Titans chased hard, with a 70 from Mughiz and an unbeaten 40+ from Salman, but fell 12 runs short in the end. A very big win for Arena, which stays in control of their own destiny in Div2.

Arena PRI Vs Titans
-----------------

Arena PRI beat Titans by 13 runs in a evenly matched contest.

Arena PRI won the toss and elected to bat first on a warm sunny day. The match started early at 10:15 am, as per the request by team Titans who had started the journey on the previous night.

JayPrakash and Gary started the innings for Arena PRI. Our Opening bowlers Ahsan and Tafazzul bowled a great opening spell without any luck. Arena opener's sailed through the first spell and were 28/0 after 10 overs. Titans introduced spin (Schon) as the first change from one end, but JayPrakash found this oppurtunity to break open and scored 16 runs of Schon's 2nd over and gave Arena's run-rate a boost. Arena were then scoring at about 4/5 runs every over and were about 75 for no loss in 15 overs. Salman who replaced Schon and was bowling his 2nd over managed to get JayPrakash hit for an expansive drive and he was caught nicely by Mughiz at backward-point for 49. Sagar was then given out caught behind in the same over. Gary too got out caught at covers by Raj off Salman soon-after. That brought Captain Prasanth to give company to their in-form batsman Samir. Prasanth survived initial nervy moments with few shots just evading fielders. Arena were 87/3 in 20 overs.

After the break, Samir and Prasanth settled down and were scoring freely. Samir particularly was severe on any loose balls and was scoring boundaries consistently. When Tafazzul was brought back, Samir brought up his fifty with 2 huge consecutive sixes. He had already scored 18 runs in that over, but when tried to hit one more six. he holed out to my hands at long-on. Samir was out for 56. In the very next over, Schon was brought back, and Prasanth got a life and Hansraj top-edged a hoick and was taken by our keeper. Prasanth too compiled a fifty before getting out. Aaquib hit a big six in the last over and took Arena PRI to 235/7 in 40 overs. Salman claimed 3 wickets, Tafazzul 2 wickets and Schon and Ahsan claimed one wicket each.

Our chase started on a bad note with myself getting out to Hansraj caught in the slips. Faraz and Santhosh (other opener) settled down and played the ace Div 2 bowler Hansraj without much discomfort. They had a good partnership going, but Faraz lost his composure and waas clean bowled to Sagar for 32. We then lost 2 of our good batsman fairly quick and were 93/4 after 20 overs.

Santhosh who had managed to keep one wnd safe too got out after the break for well made 32. Salman joined Mughiz to guide Titans chase. Both the batsmen settled down and ran hard. We were 153/5 after 30 overs needing 83 in last 10 overs. Mughiz then hit 20 runs in Keshav's over and brought down the equation to 52 runs in 7 overs. But in next over from Hansraj, while trying to pull a ball, Mughiz got out caught at square leg for a brilliant 71. Salman then hit 14 runs of Sagar's over and the equation was 34 runs in 5 overs with 4 wickets in hand. Schon was bowled off an inside edge to Hansraj in the next over and only 4 runs came off it. Naveen was run-out in the next over then trying to steal a non-existent run. Off the 5 ball of the that over from Sagar, Salman hit a ball to long-on and Keshav while trying take the catch misjudged the catch and the ball landed on his nose and he started bleeding profusely. He took off from the field and a substitute came to field in his place. At the end of this over, 23 runs were required in 3 overs with 2 wickets in hand. 6 runs came of Hansraj's last over. Sagar bowling the penultimate over bowled Raj and then Mukunthan was caught out to brilliant one handed diving catch by the keeper Gary Hinds off the next ball and Titans were found 13 runs short of the target. Salman remained unbeaten for 43 off 41 balls. For Arena, Hansraj and Sagar claimed 3 wickets, while Samir claimed 2 wickets with his off-spin and Aaquib claimed one wicket.

The match was very competitive and tempers did rose few times during the match. But overall the match was played in good spirits. Arena PRI were good hosts and it was great to play such a close match with them.

Nothing against Div 2, but I have a comment..

When there are only 13 teams competing, whats the point of picking 8 teams for playoffs??The 8th ranked team as of now has a losing record. Maybe we should just pick 6.. Give top 2 teams a direct semis and have the QFs for the other 4 teams..

Also, I am not even sure of the rule where 2 teams go to Div 1 (reg season winner and champion). When there are only 13 teams, maybe only one should get to go to Div 1.i.e if the regular season winner and the playoff winner are different, they have a final to determine who goes to Div 1 for example..

If we keep reegating 2 every year, the relegated DIv 1 teams join 30-30 and probably mark the demise of Div 2.. something to ponder..I know its a sensitive topic, but I wanted to share my thoughts and see others opinions...

Go Lakers said...

Also, It seems Arena PRI is the class of Div 2. They seem to be realy good and I hope they make it to DIv1. I think they can compete for Playoff spot in DIv1. Other than that, I dont see a worthy Div 1 team in Div 2 this year...

Milwaukee beat United at Lincoln today (on Jamaican Independence Day!) to keep their flickering playoff hopes alive.

Milwaukee won the toss and put United in, and bowled tightly early (except for one monster hooked six by Faisal off Wade). 27/1 in 8, 43/2 in 13.. and a vital wicket right before break, a beautiful outswinger from Garrick getting Raghu's edge for a terrific one-handed slip catch from Kabir. Outstanding bowling from Garrick overall - seaming it and swinging it, and moving it both ways, with the older ball. He had 3/22 in 8 overs; 3/21 for Shakir, and 2/22 for Asif. Faisal got 47, but United folded for 118.

Garrick hit a beautiful pulled four to start, but then was bowled neck-and-crop by a gorgeous incutter from Ravi. Milwaukee was 9/1.. but Asif joined Kabir and immediately went on the attack (a four and a six off Ravi), and took the game away. Kabir promptly joined in, and the score motored along - 53/1 in 10, 87/1 in 15, and it was all over in the 20th over for a 9-wicket win. Milwaukee is now up at 20 with 3 games left - and need to win out to make the playoffs.

Meanwhile, PakGym beat Purdue easily at Purdue. Pak put up 180-odd, and bowled Purdue out for about 90 IIRC. This puts PakGym in good position for the playoffs, and leaves Purdue with quite a bit of work still to do (though they have more games left than anyone else).

Any updates on CCI vs AAA and Stl vs Phoenix??

Stl seems to be out of danger with a win over muslim...eagles look all set to be relegated with a defeat to chargers..with two very difficult games ahead, their chances look bleak..

The other relegation contenders are CCI and phoenix..let's see who can avoid it...

Aditya said...

The St Louis vs Phoenix game was abandoned in the end. Due to the ground situation at WP, the game was moved to WP1. The game started around 9, and STL scored 177 for 5 or 6 in 30 overs. Unfortunately, there was a light drizzle towards the end of the first innings that prevented the start of the second innings till about 12:40pm. Phoenix chasing were 40/1 in 7 overs when the game was called off because it was 2pm and ACC/UCC or whoever came to play on the ground.

It was a very disappointing end to a game that was shaping out to be a good one, especially for St Louis who had traveled here to Chicago for this weekend. It was fun playing a partial game with them - they were really good opponents. We wish them all the best for the remaining games.

Go Lakers said...

Adi,

Does that mean its split points now or will the game be continued later??

If you guys know it will be stopped at bcos of the ACC game at 2, why did you guys even play??? You know u can't play 60 overs in 5 hrs..maybe a 20 20 game wud have been possible...

Romit said...

A similar thing happened with the Jaguars vs Chicago Giants game earlier this season. We had to move the game to ground 1. We started the game 9am as well. However, we decided to play at 25-over game and we were able to finish it by 2pm.

Aditya said...

The game is considered abandoned at the points are split. The grounds were so bad, it was decided by the umpire and the two captains that we will play on one side only. No breaks were taken during innings, and the innings break was reduced to 15 mins (I think). Given these conditions, the umpire and both teams felt that this would be acceptable.

It was a very frustrating result for all concerned. Both teams and the umpire tried to get a complete game in, but there were a few mistakes that could have been avoided for which we would have got the game completed. The weather conditions, however, were a major factor.

Unknown said...

Just curious, what are the rules of the league regarding changing the venue and playing a shortened version of the game?

Can both the captains and the umpire decide that another ground nearby is available and decide to play? And, can it be any ground as long as the captains and umpire agree? Or, does it have to be a league approved ground?

AAA Vs. CCI

The game was re scheduled due to an event that was taking place on Sunday at Sunset Park which is in Lake in the Hills. The game will be rescheduled since it was called of Saturday. The game was not rained out or anything. Also Imran Taylor was injured in the night game against Rogers Park and is doing well. He punctured is long while keeping when he fell awkwardly on the ground. He is back home. Let us pray for a fast and healthy recovery. Congratulation to Rogers Park for getting the WIN. Shiraz, I will give you the score sheet tonight if you will be at the blogger game. If not I will upload it on here by tonight or tomorrow morning. Sorry for the delay.

Jaguars beat Illinois yesterday convincingly. Jaguars won the toss and decided to field first in Hammond, IN. We got them all out for 76 runs. Jaguars won with 8 wickets remaining.

Illinois is one of the worst teams I have played against this year. This has nothing to do with talent, its got everything to do with attitude, respect for other and respect for the game. Their opening batsmen showed no respect to the umpire. Constantly yelling and abusing the opposite team and the umpire. Their team would not keep track of score during their batting and will not announce the right score after every 2 overs. They would add 10 runs whenever they liked. I did not expect this from their team.

South Barrington beat Juggernauts. It was a close game. SB won the toss and elected to field first. We restricted Juggernauts to 71-3 in 15 overs.. 128-7 in 28 overs & 158-7 in 30 overs. SB started off losing 3 quick wickets in first 6 overs and 67-6 in 15 overs. But then Gaurav, Annirudha & Dishank played very well to reach the target in 29th over.

Juggernauts is a great team and we had a lot of fun playing against them.

The balls this season are stones..... Can somebody put sense into mgmt that we need cricket balls and not stones.....

Juggernauts lost today to South Barrington today in a nail biter - SB guys showed a great deal of composure even after loosing some initial wickets and at one point being at 67/6 - but the way you guys came back was praise worthy .

Wish to see you guys in playoffs , a well deserved victory to SB, glad to know that you have brighter chances for your playoffs .

We will wait for play offs to kick off and good luck to all the teams in 30/30 .

Desi Tigers defeated Nighthowlers by about 60 runs. Dax scored a brutal 100 in 60 balls with a bunch of sixers... Along with Rupesh, he put on a great partnership to reach 204. Rupesh scored an aggressive knock with quite a few sixers too. Lots of lessons learnt and Nighthowlers will gain by all this during the play offs.

Congrats to Pak!!! Always fun to play you folks....not fun to lose so bad...hahaha..

Billoger said...

Sheks,
Can you please look into the issue of teams not uploading their scorecards? Especially after they loose the match?

Another thing, how come no initiative has been taken to provide the teams with some better balls. The only balls which were 'playable' were Grade A, and every team has ran out of them. Now teams are borrowing from opponents or using Grays balls.

Will these issues be addressed before seasons ends? I understand that you guys ordered bad balls, Three times, but please try to fix the mess, not drag it on. It's only hurting your management's image by not fixing it.

Rajiv said...

Challenor - I would like to know what you are talking about. The only thing we might have done wrong was when the fielder caught the ball at the ropes he ran in not knowing he is supposed to stay there, but the umpire went and checked and made a call.

But what I am talking about is different. Your player abused the umpire and our players which no one should ever go through.

The management must have def got a report from the umpire and from jaguars captain.

But challenor I would like to know what jaguars did wrong? So that we don't ever repeat that again. Please elaborate.

Unknown said...

Mitul - I guess you were wrong on your analysis about Rockers vs MWCA as well as your game :)

Here is what happened for the Rockers/MWCA game:
Srijay scored a quick fire 38, Romeen scored a 50 (well earned singles, doubles), Shwetal scored 62 (ran hard with romeen). We ended up getting 201 in 30, which was about 30 less than what we should have (174/1 in 23 overs, complete collapse after that). Fahad took us on with a super 52 with some massive hits in the V (ripped the ball in the process, his opening partnership was 64 runs in 6 overs), Srijay ended up taking 4 wickets bowling off spin. We wrapped them up for 175. Fielding was decent, we dropped 3 catches, We dropped a sitter from Fahad, but luckily Fahad got out 2 balls later, We got our hands on some really hard catches but couldnt latch on. We did bleed a lot of runs in the end which we shouldnt have. Moin and Krishna managed to hit a few out of the park which got the game close! It was definitely a blast to see all the youngsters at MWCA! Props to the coaches.

Shekhs said...

Billoger,
We'll definitely look into the issue of missing or non-entered scorecards.

we do have a process already initiated to get new balls for the playoffs.

Don't worry abtb challenor Rajiv. Barking dogs seldom bite..:)

Towards the end of the season, they usually shwo up with 7 or 8 guys to play, abuse the umpire and opponents and lose in 10 or 15 overs and leave. They won't even try to play a decent game. Saw ur scorecard that they scored 70 for 7 in 10 overs and that's it..

Also, they are just a pale sorry shadow of their past. They keep saying u r warned and all that bs, but will probably lose next year too..lol.

Wildcats defeated Purdue yesterday.
----

Umped this game this weekend, plus the Challengers/PakGym game - two relatively one-sided games in the end.

Brutal day on Saturday in Purdue, high humidity, 94, no shade or breeze, awful. A weakend Purdue team (at a difficult time, with the playoff-run approaching) taking on Wildcats - missing captain Neeraj (13 stitches on his hand last week from a Shahid Munir return catch attempt), plus Faraz, Saad, Rohan etc who were out of town in the break between semesters. Prodigious early morning movement from Adeel, bowled beatifully, but Javed etc survived it well. Then Javed batted very well for his 45 (before being runout due to a cramp and not being able to cross over); Vikram was terrific for his 50, and Wildcats accelerated nicely (23 from Mushtaq, 25 from Ajit - both run-a-ball), hitting 88 off the last 12 to get to 193 in 40 on a low-scoring ground. Good bowling spells from Adeel (1/33 in 8, wonderful morning spell in particular); and solid legspin from Srikar, 0/26 in 8.

Wildcats started well, and kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Saumyang (25) played some terrific shots early, and Srikar played a very good anchor role with 32.. but it was 35/3, 85/7 etc. Purdue kept fighting to the end and finished with a 60 run loss. 2 wickets each for Satish, Surya and Javed.

Yes, turned into a very one-sided game by the end.

Its usually a high-voltage contest, and started that way - Raheel quick and good in his first over, hurrying Darshan a couple times, getting Sheks caught at cover (hit high on the bat). 9/1 in 2 overs, momentum with Pak.. and then Raheel's quick first ball tailed slightly to leg in 3rd over, Darshan promptly dispatched it over longon, and everything changed. Awesome batting from Darshan, going over midwicket and point in the same over, 25 off the over and suddenly 34/1 in 3!

Pak settled things down with Shahid, Rashid etc.. but Challengers stayed in early control. Darshan fell after a very good 50 (heaved across to Bakshi and bowled).. but 91/3 in 20 overs at break (Afroze and Mahesh in control), and Challengers were in terrific shape and looking to post a good score.

It all changed immediately after break. Najmi came on 2nd over after break - and immediately dropped it on the spot outside off. Afroze swept-and-missed twice, then connected straight into the hands of deepmidwicket.. wicket-maiden, 98/4. Najmi's next over, Mahesh drove and inside-edged onto the stumps (101/4). Nilesh was then caught off Raheel (103/5).. Pak in control and charging hard, pressuring the batsman at every turn (a huge caught-behind appeal off Raheel turned down next over, adding to the intensity of the battle).

Bhavesh and Nirav tried to stage a recovery, taking Challengers to 128/6, but then a nice pickup and throw had Bhavesh runout. Najmi, meanwhile, had been switched to the other end (which made no difference to his wonderful spell). He promptly had Nirav bowled and Manish well caught behind off a thin edge, in the same over; and followed it up next over with a beautiful quicker ball to clean-bowl Vishal, and the Challengers had fallen to 138 allout. From 91/3 in 20 at break, they lost 7/47 in 12 overs, bowled out with 8 overs to spare!

To say that Najmi bowled a good spell is understating it - an outstanding spell of spin bowling. He bowled 6 full overs - tossed up a few, some spun a little, some a lot, some went straight through.. but IMHO he didnt bowl a *single* poor ball in the entire 6 overs. Nothing too short, too full.. everything, even the flighted ones, pitched perfectly, with variety thrown into the mix. It was 6-1-9-5 - a matchwinning spell.

Defending 138 (when they had been looking at 200+), the Challengers came out a little flat.. and PakGym jumped on them right away with Bakshi and Irfan. 9/0 after the first over turned into 21/0 after 3, 34/0 after 4... a couple of catches went down, and then the floodgates opened. Both Bakshi and Irfan favoured the legside a bit (Irfan often pulling out his patented one-handed pull for four).. but Bakshi in particular was striking it gorgeously - sometimes taking offside balls and hitting it over the midwicket fence at Hanover, down to the water a couple of times! It was 99/0 when the 12-over restrictions ended, before Irfan fell for a very good 45 to Vishal.

Bakshi continued on his merry way though, taking 20 off a Nirav over when he came on (2 fours and 2 sixes, including one over the practice-nets into the water).. in the end it was all over quite quickly, 138/1 in 16 overs with Bakshi 77* (with 9 fours and 5 sixes!)

Challengers stay top of the table even after the loss, but this win assures Pak of the playoffs (32 being the historical cutoff point). Also a bit of a statement game for PakGym, who are now looking very good at just the right time of the season. With Wildcats also winning this weekend to get to 32, it means 4 out of 8 playoff spots are now taken, leaving the 7 remaining serious contenders to battle for the remaining 4 spots.

Jaguars has one game left next week with Springfield. With QC Kings losing to Arena and Rogers Park losing to Evanston, there is still a positioning fight for No.3,4,5,6 Position in Division II. I was part of a tied match yesterday (Cougars-TrailBlazers --> 16/17 positioned teams in the table). We were playing with 10 players .. If we had the 11th player, may be we could had won the match ...

-----

In fact, the tie was a *very* bad result for MuslimGym - it has left their playoff chances very much up in the air, and opened things up for a lot of teams. If Muslim had won, they would have been at 30 points with 1 game against AAA left - and with a chance to get to 34 and be completely safe. Now they are 28 instead - and if there is a rainout with AAA theyre out, or even a win in the last game does not assure them of advancing.

As of the moment, basically 4 spots are locked up (Challengers, Flames, Peoria, PakGym). The Wildcats are 32 with 1 game left.. but a loss would leave them at 32. Bears are at 30, with 1 game left, could get to 34. But then lots of teams could get to 32.. Muslim, Purdue, Milwaukee all have 28 with 1 game left; and AAA is 24, but has 2 games left (AAA plays Muslim, so only one of them can get to 32, however).

But.. there is the potential of Bears winning and getting to 34 (and locking up the 5th spot).. and a chance that Wildcats,Purdue, Milwaukee and AAA/Muslim could *all* be at 32,ie 4 teams at 32, with only 3 spots available.. and, for the first time in several years, a 32-point-team might actually *fail* to make the playoffs in Div1!

BTW, Milwaukee beat AAA quite easily yesterday in Milwaukee, to get to 28 points and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Very heavy outfield, bit of rain during the week. AAA won the toss and put Milwaukee in (which turned out to be a mistake, with Milwaukee batting very well.. and the heat taking a toll on AAA players with it being Ramzan). Kabir hit a quick 37, Asif a very good 50 at #3.. but the star was Leon Garrick. Opened and batted till the 38th over, made a chanceless 139 with several sixes, carried Milwaukee all the way to 278. AAA was exhausted by the end, and Milwaukee then bowled very well at them - Kabir picked up 4, Wade 3, it was 7-down by 14 overs.. eventually AAA got 80-odd allout.

AAA is at 24 points and has 2 games left - CCI and MuslimGym. 2 wins will put them at 32. Milwaukee is at 28 with 1 game left - they play a very big game against Peoria next week.

Oh, and BTW, congrats to Arena PRI for making Division One! With their win over QC Kings this weekend they cannot be caught - clinched the regular-season championship for Division One, with an unbeaten season!

So 2 StLouis teams in Div1 next year once again - just like there used to be 3-4 years ago. Once more, a whole-weekend trip to StLouis for all Div1 sides once a year.. maybe a good thing!

(And no StLouis trip anymore for Div2 teams! Most of Div2 must be pretty happy about that :-)

Hey Billoger: I assume u eat food and not the result of its digestion....On one side you come up with thought of match fixing on the other hand you pull Sunil Kumar for no reason. Has he jacked your happiness so much that u come and cry here like a wet diapered kindergardener!! Grow up dude and search for your origin, its time u found them, else u will remain in the garbage/sewage where u were found!!

Think whatznext you looser!!

My dear friend finger of death: Great attempt to dilute the tie game between muslim and chargers.

Your attempt was good, but not talking about chargers was unfair.

If chargers had lost this game they would have ended up with 16 points (they will not beat Wildcats in their final game for sure). In case CCI wins against rovers then Chargers and CCI will tie for points. CCI has beaten Chargers and hence CCI will proceed sending chargers to div 2.

So let us not gloss simply by saying that nobody gains. Chargers surely gains. Muslim is safe for the season so no worries.

Is it not strange that in all the three games which were tied has team with somebody from the management or atleast a close connection. Cool keep it up....

Think whatznext dude!!

hey billoger: u r right, my language of natural reaction is that of somebody who comes from a nation of pride & valor and of one who has been fed with enough respect for self and others so as to identify those who were left to rot in bin (by likewise folks) and hence had to be content being fed with post-digestion refuse!!

I am shocked at the rage that you have for Billoger.... You must tone down your choice of words.... nobody deserves to be called "piece of filth"... however your language is high flown and I commend you for that.... your intent is good as far as criticising games are concerned but there are too many assumptions.... "they will not beat Wildcats in their final game for sure" "In case CCI wins against rovers then Chargers and CCI will tie for points" " Muslim is safe for the season so no worries.
"...... No team would rig a game at the cost of not making it to the playoffs....

Unknown said...

Shiv: Thanks for your response. That was no rage, it was just a response to his "loose cannon" on Sunil and for making fun of your earlier statement. Just go back to earlier posts of billoger and you will find how he tries to personalize his comments on Sunil and few others.

Knowing Sunil I am sure he will ignore this with the contempt it deserves, he just left active participation from the blog and comes in once in a while.

In fact when I asked Sunil to respond to one such earlier post, this is what he said to me "mad dogs bark at Sun/Moon that neither concerns it nor does the dogs barking dim their shining".

As regards Wildcats v/s Chargers that was my prediction based on the performances of both the team, more importantly Wildcats cannot afford to loose this game as it will then leave its destiny to other teams performance/results. I have great respect for the Chargers team, but unfortunately they have not been clicking to their potential this season.

Further, I was responding to F-O-D, whose theory conveniently ignores the Chargers perspective of a tie.

CCI is a wild horse and has pulled out some upset wins, Rovers is no doubt good, but then CCI has home advantage in that ground which if they play well can be used for their advantage.

Look at the SB v/s CCC game, the tie has given both of them a chance to stay on top over some of the other teams - common it is too much of a coincident on a given day to work favorably for a select set of teams.

Its unfortunate that teams get into doing this (if its true). They need to win games on the turf not on the table.

Ideally teams tied for the spots should fight it out or tie games need to be replayed as much as rained out games as this influences the outcome.

Going forward to avoid this we should have a super over concept to avoid such rigging, if any. Nothing other than rain should be awarded equi points. Walkovers have to be rescheduled or teams giving walkover need to pay a fine. If there are two teams with walkovers then head to head has to be given preference.

Shiv, letz see whatznext this week!

Whatznext,

Dude you are underestimating MuslimGym's capability to disintegrate like the Pak national team and they don't need a reason to do it. They've not won any of their last 4 games so I'm not surprised chargers pulled close. If you ask me, I was surprised chargers didn't win.
c8w, please give us detailed match report of how exactly the tie happened.
Secondly, the way CCI has been playing, I wouldn't hold my breath for them to beat anybody at all in division I. The only games they've won was earlier on in the season when they beat St.Louis and chargers - both prone to collapses.
CCI hasn't been fielding their full team anyway. So chargers are safe.

Can anyone post an update of when CCI vs AAA is going to happen ?

But, Milwaukee vs Peoria is going to be the Highstakes encounter this weekend. Looking forward to it.

Whatznext, you crack me up. Is that the best you can do??

Congrats to Arena on making it to Div 1. The way you guys steam-rolled your way through is an ominous sign. I'm sure you guys will do well next season.

Good luck for the Div 2 playoffs coming up. Some hardware always is nice after a successful season. :)

Appu,
Challengers won last night. Big knock by Saquib placed RPCC at a decent total. Saquib was at his ruthless best. It was entertaining watching him play even if we were taking the beating...

A solid 90 odd run partnership between Bhavesh and Mahesh saw Challengers thru.

Congrats Ajoy and Arena!!
Welcome to Div 1!

Why is it that 8 teams get selected foor playoffs in both div 1 and 2? 18 teams compete in div 1 and 13 in div 2. Either make it 6 in div 2 or make it 10 in div 1 for playoffs. That wud be fair..

mwca churail,

Please use the other thread to post any politically motivated comments.

Thank you.

Billoger said...

Adi,
How is it politically motivated to ask about why a banned player was allowed to play before his ban was over?
This blog is for discussion related to games, and I think it's very much related to a game asking why a banned player was allowed to play.
Please try to answer the question instead of deleting comments.

Unknown said...

hmmm Billoger: Please understand this could be the response from the management: "maybe the question is not POLITICAL, but think about it, if the management responds then it may become POLITICAL... in short the questiton may not be political but the anwer could be"....so this cannot be posted here!!!

Think whatnext mgmt dudes?

Karachi vs Challs for the night semi's is going to be an awesome matchup.

But Pak vs ICML may be an even better matchup. Looking at Pak's night team - they are just built for T20 cricket.

I'm going to pick a "repeat" finals matchup. Good luck to all teams!

Billoger said...

Adi,
Can you please explain how to playoff games were decided? it seemed like QFs were decided on pool basis..but how were the Semis decided?
