To start up with, Chargers and St. Louis have become one of the few teams to lose to both the Div-1 debutants this year (CCI and Rovers). Though early to say, United along with Chargers seems like battling the relegation (1 win and 5 losses).
In Div 2, Rogers Park and Arena are the teams fighting for the top spot with no loss so far. But look out for QC Kings too, as they seem to have picked a good amount of talented new players. My team-Titans, along with others like Jaguars, Illinois, Mil Panthers will have to face stiff competition for the above 3 teams, if we are dreaming of any chances to get to Div-1 next year.
Div 30-30 has a debutant team topping the table so far - NightHowlers. South Barrington, Chicago Hawks, Juggernauts (another debutant) are doing well too.
In the Night Tournament, Challengers got a big win, while Karachi won a close match. More interesting match-ups coming up this week.

AAA lost to Chargers
Chargers won the toss and elected to field. AAA were 50 for 6 in 20 over’s and managed to score 140 or so all out. Chargers chased it with ease by losing only 4 wickets. Congratulations to Chargers on a hard fought win.
FYI: AAA were missing Sadik Patel, Munaf Bhaji, Ayas Patel, Ashif Patel, and Farhan Mehdi so they were short handed today. But Chargers played well.
Congrats Chargers !!
This year seems to be somewhat different.. teams seam to be evenly matched. I think if Challengers can maintain some portion of this momentum they are going to be at the top of the table.. but its too early to predict promotions and relegation... may be after the long weekend when most teams have 8-10 games played the picture will be more clear.
Alpesh,
I cant help myself but to bring this up :) Its not entirely accurate to say: "Chargers and St. Louis have become one of the few teams to lose to both the Div-1 debutants this year (CCI and Rovers)."... I mean "one of the few" singles them out while comparing them with other teams.. in reality Rovers and CCI have played only a few games :)
btw, it looks like this Rovers team is more than a handful.. they were very close in pulling off victories in the games they lost. They could have easily been sitting pretty at 4/0... it will be interesting to see what happens against Muslim Gym.
tatabybycu Sir,
Ok sir :-) read it as 'one of the first few teams to lose to both the debutants' :-)
Please post update on these two games.
Purdue vs Eagles
Muslim Gym vs Rovers
Update: PCC beat United by 2 Wickets ( Ram 48, Ravi 38, Talal 26)
with pouring down rain at the start of the game, we had to delay the start of the game by almost by 2 hours..we didn't start till 1 PM then it was reduced to 30 overs game..We won the toss picked to chase in wet and over cast conditions. United played smartly well and Peoria didn't bowl too well...most of the runs coming in extras..Ravi bowled a tight line to contain a bit but we weren't anywhere close to our regular efficiency..Adnan played great cameo, Faisal couldn't replicate his bludgeoning best against us :-) like it last 2 years and we will take it..United ended up with 144 in 30 for 7 wickets or so..pick of our innings was Kedars fielding exploits in short covers ..he was like panther prowling for some leather..assisted in 2 gr8 run outs! United top order did every well...kept their wickets but couldn't accelerate as intended, may be stuck pedal..;-) Had they put in 20 overs runs more..I think..we would have been in a soup.. but they did well to reach 144 very competitive total on this wet rainy day.
Peoria chased well with both Ram Velamakanni and Talal showing aggression and no mercy..they hit the new ball all over the park. They were terrific and gave us a great start..we never looked back after that..we were 112/2 at 18.2 when another bout of rain came down we had to stop the play agonizingly close to a game result at 20 overs...It was like watching to the skies like a Martin Sorcese movie only this time around twist was provided by our own umpire Mr. Sadiq Sorcese..who was running the screen play..hehe ;-) but wait was well worth it and we didn't disappoint the opponents either..we did everything in our arsenal to make the game was more interesting and close! Ravi stuck at one end and a slippery run out few rash shots from top order suddenly we looking down the barrel needing 26 runs and 5 wickets in hand...but we had plenty of overs and asking rate was never a issue...then came to 16 runs with 4 wickets..then came 7 runs with 3 wickets and 3 runs needed 2 wickets..and Cap Kiran took care of the runs...bless his nerves:-) we were all relieved..It wasn't pretty WIN considering ball was skidding and was hard to time on a wet carpet..we will take the WIN for what its worth..a 4 points in Midwest CC currency and leave at that..! We have been interchanging the core a lot lately..and it clearly visible hopefully Peoria CC will stick it together soon...:-)
United were gr8 hosts and they did everything possible to finish the game..Thanks to Faiz, Ravi, Gopi Mateen and rest of United for such graciousness, camaraderie..we enjoyed it all..Game didn't seem possible at the beginning ...but they made it happen..with extra cleaning efforts...! And Thank you Mateen bhai..for gr8 laughs..I am hoping u didn't catch ammonia..;-)
United team is very young team and they have quite a few talented players..its only matter of getting combination right and they will be good team..Wishing them the best in future..they r gr8 bunch of guys with gr8 attitude..Its gr8 to see they are investing in Midwest talent instead of outsourcing :-) Its good for the team and great benefit for the Midwest area cricket!
Phew...It was suppose to be a short update..:-)
Signing off..
Madew
For PCC
Madew,
Good win!! Congrats!!
So did you guys play after we left?
You mean we could've finished our game as well?
bummer..
Rovers bt muslim gymkhana by y wkts..muslim scored 165 and rovers chased it in 25 overs.. Ravi scored 85 off 45 balls...Thanks for the kind words in the previous post tatabybycu...
Dinesh
Dinesh,
I'm assuming you play for the Rovers. I just wanted to say I watched a little bit of Revi's batting yesterday and I have to say I haven't seen aggression like that in a long time. There are a lot of big hitters in this league but the 10 mins I saw from Ravi yesterday were absolutely murderous! Congrats on the win.
Yes Mr. President...You would have got a game out of it had you waited but it would have been a close call..There would have been a issue with bad light.. with ur game as you guys had more than 25 over to go..we had only @12 overs left..and by the time we finished the game it was already 7:30 PM or so..Sadiq is indeed expert at predicting the conditions in Washington park..I would say..Its crazy..sun came out..and it was brighter than our morning session..That's chicago weather for you..Neverthless we had fun and gr8 hitting there..ur self...;-)
Cheers

I think they could have finished, yes - we had 12 overs, but we went fairly slowly, not much hurry.. (esp cos lots of wickets fell.. 7 wickets fell in those 12 overs basically). Also, it was bright and sunny with badlight more than an hour away when we left (and we left after getting scorecards, chatting, United doing interviews with their players etc). Light stays a very long time in the summer...IMHO you should never try to predict stuff, you play as long as you can, if its bad light (or bad weather), and you go off when it happens, not before!
I was v confident we'd resume the game when we stopped (after 18 overs)... the only reason we stopped was to roll and cover the matting and avoid it getting too wet to continue (at the point we stopped, it was IMHO raining too hard to play- and we rolled because if the matting gets wet even for next 10 mins break, you wont be able to continue after it). But in WP, once you roll and cover, you can play as soon as the weather gets better - you just have to sweep water off the concrete. It actually took about 15 mins longer to clear than I thought - but once it cleared it was a beautiful day, the light was actually better than it had been at any point all day long! (I picked up some bbq on the Southside afterwards - I was wearing shades for an hour and a half while driving back).
In the end, the game finished well in time, and was a very good game by the end - 2 wicket win.

Dinesh didnt play for the Rovers yesterday, or the past couple of weeks... its sad when a little thing like going to India to get married is allowed to get in the way of a Div1 season, shows a lack of dedication I think (tho, blogging on cricket a few hours after getting home aint bad, really)..(oh, and congrats Dinesh, BTW :-)
As for the game, pretty impressive win for Rovers. Their bowling (in tough bowling conditions, wet pitch etc) was very disciplined, solid line and length throughout. And their fielding was terrific - they held every single catch that came their way all day, including 2-3 outfield skiers that required running 10 steps, judging, and getting into position etc. Also ground-fielding was spot on, with pickups, throws etc.. one possible runout was missed due to a missed collection, but even that throw was on line!
MG started fine, good batting mby Moe again, 39/1 in 10 overs. They collapsed as Rovers kept holding catches however, Rovers keeping MG down to 163/8 in 40 (including a big near-50 run partnershp for the 9th wicket that even got them up to 163).
In reply, Ravi was Ravi, only more so than usual :-) He is always hugely aggressive.. this time he went off from the first ball.It has to be said, tho, that MG helped out by some poor catching - they just couldnt seem to hold on yesterday, missing 6-8 clear catches (at least). It started on the first ball of the innings, Ravi launching it over midwicket, huge and high, skier, dropped at the boundary! Another possible chance was dropped 2 balls later, and it seemed to get contagious. Ravi kept going, murderously aggressive, hitting some unbelievable shots, and running hard in between. 4 sixes, 5 fours, 3 threes - 85 off 42 balls! (One hooked six over squareleg off the paceman was quite brilliant). Vijay was solidly aggressive at the other end too. Chasing 163 to win on a heavyish outfield, when Ravi got out, Rovers were 129/2 off 14 overs! (That is, 34 to win off 26 overs with 8 wickets in hand :-) If one aggressive innings (accompanied by some poor catching) ever ended a game, this was pretty much it!
Good win for Rovers, now at 3-2 for the season.Tough loss for MG, they had been playing much better after a slow start to the season.. they didnt play badly, actually, just caught very poorly on the day. As long as that was a one-off, they should still be ok for the season, probably.

I dont think its different at all - I think its been like this for the last few years :-) Thats why I think our current Div1 is the best single league in the country, maybe (and also, coincidentally, why Iam so opposed to the idea of a merger between the two divisions :-)
Look at it this way. 3 years ago, Purdue and MuslimGym reached the finals - the next year, neither made the playoffs. 2 years ago United and Phoenix reached the finals - last year Phoenix didnt reach the playoffs, United reached it on the last day of the season (and lost their playoff game the next week). 2 yrs ago Rogers Park was battling for a playoff spot - last year they got relegated. Last year Chargers were battling for a playoff spot (eventually ended 1 win short IIRC).. this year they were 1-5 before yesterday and in relegation danger. There is depth and balance in this league - where, if you play a little less than your best as a team, youre going to lose.
What we have in Div1 is incredibly terrific balance - there are *no* easy games, anywhere. If you play at 80%, you could lose on any given day. This is what makes our Div1 special at the moment - IMHO no other league in the country really has it, they all have leagues were you might have 8-10 really good teams, but the other 5-6 are crap, and you end up having 4-5 terrible (and boring) games a year, where the result is known before you walk into the field, where you can play 60% of your best and still walk away with an easy win.
We currently have (and have had, for the last 2-3 years) a league where, every single weekend, youre going to get quality cricket and know youre in for a fight - where you know youre going to have to play well if you want to win. We dont know how lucky we are to have that (and probably wont know how good we had it, until its gone :-)
c8w
Madew,
Yeah bud..we should've stuck around....could've gotten a game out of it...
I guess we were just too pessimistic...
Oh well..lesson learnt..
got some batting practice...hahaha
Sadiq, you couldnt have said any better than that. We are lucky to have such a premium league and with the new and improved management, I think we will shine even more!
The only thing our league needs to improve is fielding standards.
If you look at all across Div 1 teams, there are very few teams who have good fielding. Even the best teams like Pak, Challengers make blunders with their fielding. Not sure how is the fielding standard in other leagues across US.
Any ideas on how to improve that?
This could be a challenge for our new President :)
Its a piece of cake for Mr President .. He will say do what I do ... He is one of the best fielders in the league ..
Damn u finger of death,,,,,plz have ur own blog for ur encyclopedic post.....this is really bad writing at it's best, cause even after using so many lines u can really convey what u were really trying to say....cause by the end we r lost or either forget where we started. Have u been deprive of stating ur point of u all ur life and it's all coming out now ???
Plz don't reply to this in 50 lines. Thx. Aghh
Come on Namastey cricket, that was pretty rough I think.
We can all critique his umpiring and selection abilities (which i will happily join you) but shouldnt get personal.
Thanks Asmar for your comments about Ravi. Thats why I get surprised when Ravi was never a serious contender for CER till this year..He is one of the most natural cricketers you will ever see..I think he is a even better bowler and one of the best fielders you will see..He would make a great No.6 for MCC in the CER tournament..
Thanks Appu for the kind words...I dont think I'm that good...but appreciate that..
Ice_cold,
I think you do have a point about our fielding ...
Our players are talented, but not fit...I mean physically fit to that level..
Fielding is all fitness. If you aint fit...you can't field...period!!
So, to all aspiring cricketers, who want to play CER and other tournaments....hit the gym, run all that good stuff...
andd you'll automatically see changes...

----------------------------------
LOL at "new and improved management"...Sorry for being blunt but I cant agree with that as of now:
- They have tried to improve the balls standard and now we got Aalu balls.
-No Discipline anymore, cause no Disciplinary action taken against any team for not following the MWCC code of conduct.
- They tried to have Big Nite Tournament Opening and first time in history of this league the lights never came on.
- They are changing the CER team selection process, now ppl like Sadiq will be Judging and selecting players like Shahid Munir, Asher Mehdi and Asif Mehmood.
Give me a break dude.
When you cant perform you try to please everybody, I think thats what they are doing. Can we call it new and improved mgmt ? I think its too soon until we see some real improvements.
Guys this is on a sad note but i need everyones help!!!
My best friends daughter, Sofia Khan, has been missing since last Wednesday evening following a mishap in Lake Michigan. I am requesting everyone to pray for her and her family.
You can find her story on google by searching her name.
Thanks.
Sajid
Our very own Mateen Syed has had the misfortune of losing his father; Words fall short of expressing our sorrow for his loss, may the sorrow he feels in his heart lighten by the love that surrounds him,may the memories be his comfort. Our prayers and thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time, know that your cricketing family in your time of need, we will always be there for you.
Namaste,
I agree with you on one thing.. its too soon to judge the new leadership's performance. We have to wait for the whole season. But, the way you are acting it appears you have no interst other than bad mouthing the people trying to help us and insulting other teams. If you are not pleased you can speakup and act at the next AGM. Meanwhile, please be constructive.
Shifting topics...What do you guys think about CA's new 40 over format with 4 innings? Do you think its good for our league.. should we try it there?
I think c8w will not be too pleased.. unlike, Namaste, I dont mind his 8 page answer :)
there = here
Mr Namastay,
I have to agree and disagree with your points:
1) Balls are crap. No doubt about that. Few posts ago, aditya wrote a nice long praise about Balls swinging after 30 overs, so far I dont think any ball (Graddige or Star) has reached the 30 over stage without becoming square. Sorry Aditya, that was a bunch of crap you wrote and I hope you ack the fact that balls are crap last year's balls were about 100x better.
The last mgmnt says they ordered Grays before elections and new mgmnt says they didnt. Who tells the truth, I dont know. Rumor is that order was given to Nippon Joshi as he plays for United.
2) Disciplinary action, not sure what you are referring to unless you are talking abt the charegers incident. I think league cant do much about a team requesting to order subway instead of pizza. Some teams have some low life players which will alway show their character.
3) Night tournament, at least they tried something new to promote cricket. Never before night cricket's first game had such a larger crowd. About lights, that's something which is controlled by Park district and is out of control of management.
4) Selection and Trials, I agree that it's becoming a bit of blunder....there should have been a captain selected and team should be chosen with him. But selection committee has Mehul, Ajit, Madhu people who have played good cricket so we wait to see what they decide. I am glad it's not only Sadiq's decision as we all know his talent hunting skills are very limited.
You r right, it's too early to tell but still Sheks and Co are making efforts to move in right direction and we see a whole cabinet of dedicated people working to improve league instead of two people, Hamayun Baqai and TA.
As I see that you agree to almost everything that Namaste wrote. Balls are definitely crap, as you said that the old management order balls but the new management denied. Why do you not take some time to either send TA an email or call to confirm this whether it is true or not and let us all know the story behind it. In my opinion someone made good money out of that order. Aditya will praise everything now since the ball in his court. If old management exists he will be the first one to come out and create nuisance for them.
Charger issue is not about subway. Ravi has stated on the blog about the misbehavior of few players. It takes courage to take action against misdemeanors. At least, a warning should be issued for Chargers.
On the other hand, you need to raise issue of Glendale Heights players playing in our league and their league. Where is that exclusivity rule now?
The bottom line brother is that none of them will raise any issues now because they all got together for many years. Everything looks ok at their end. You are absolutely right time will tell how they perform for the whole year. But as of today what we see in 6 weeks has no change for better. Ballooning the cabinet does not mean that the quality will be captured. Good dedicated people will make the difference.
By the way, you also mentioned that only two people worked in last management. It surprised me the work of two people is equal to 20 people.
Mateen deeply sorry for your loss. May you have the strength to overcome this tragedy.
Sajid, i really hope they find Sofia safe and sound. There is nothing worse than having your little pride and joy missing.
We will be praying with all our hearts.
Underdog, nothing to say except Raingods have not been merciful to us this year.
Atif, when is our bloggers ball ? lets talk sometime soon.
Well played Ravi. You are the danger man.
Fahad again has been brilliant. Way to go.
Sheks or someone from Management,
Can you please clear once and for all what happened with the balls? Why did we change the supplier, when everybody seems to be loving the Grays balls?
How are we going to fix it next season or rest of season?
ice_cold and everybody...
The previous management never finalized the order. They never made the payment for the balls.
So when we got elected, the balls were yet to be ordered. It would have taken 4-5 weeks from that day to get the balls.
We didnt go with them because there was committment from that vendor.
Hence we ordered from a different vendor.
Our next set of balls, which will come in the next coupla weeks should be very good.
So, based on the quality of those balls, we'll pick the best and order them up front during the off season.
Our sincere condolences to Mateen and his family.
God give him the strength to bear the loss!!
Challengers CC!!
Masta,
Hopefully, we'll find Sofia soon. God bless!! We'll pray.

can someone from old management clarify his statement?
Mateen,
So sorry for your loss.
Aditya and team Phoenix
Mateen,
Sorry to hear about your loss.
Team Wildcats.
Billoger,
Your comment about the balls was about twice as long as mine, and you're complaining about me writing a long post on the balls? That's funny! I don't think the Gray's balls were 100x better than this year. I feel they are about the same.
My good buddy Namastey_Cricket,
At least Shekhs and team tried to put up some sort of event. It's better than doing nothing. And unfortunately for Shekhs and team, they don't "control" the lights.
And as for as the selection question, at least you're seeing some effort. They are trying to give people a chance, to put up a transparent process, and to have more than 1-2 people control the selection. It's not perfect, but it's a start.
Suck it up,
Fortunately, the MwCC league is not run via the blog. If so, we would have sooooo many issues. The judiciary committee would have so much to look into. So, unless Ravi or the Chargers have made an official complaint, there is nothing from management going to be posted on this blog. But if you'd like to go ahead and make a "decision", feel free to post it on the blog and we'll all abide by it! :D
If you feel there is a conference exclusivity rule being violated, take it up with the management officially, not on this blog.
Earlier the complaint was that the CER team was done last minute, there were some undeserving players, and no transparency. Now you're complaining that there is transparency, it isn't last minute, and that others are being considered?
Hilarious! You and N_C are great entertainment. B+ for effort, and D- for logic.
N_C,
You never answered my question - who are the "top" teams that Phoenix doesn't stand a chance against? Or are all the other 16 teams in Div 1 the "top" teams?
Some brilliant insight as to how poorly we'll fare this season would be much appreciated!
Aditya,
Sir... Dont be so concern about my comments, I dont want you to loose your sleep over that. You got one of the best team and you are one of the best player, you must be in CER Team otherwise we may not win.
Now plz sleep tight tonite
Sheks, About the ball order issue, as Suck_it_up suggested, I will try to contact the old mgmt and their vendor, so we all can find out what exactly happen and who is lying. We should post the finding in front of all.
Wish me luck
Aditya, S_I_U, N_C etc...
I did not post the incedent regarding Chargers to have them funished by management. It was ment to be for the teams who will be hosting them since, we had such an incident, I wanted other teams to know about this and be careful. Thats all!
Ultimately, all I care about is having some fun on the cricket ground and go home happy end of the day.
Thanks,
Ravi
Aditya you are more qualified and logical person to all of us. I wonder how you never ran for presidency for this league.
Ravi or Charger will not file any complains because everyone has a stake in it. The word nepotism comes to my mind. Anyways, they should file the report in order to discipline teams.
Taking up issues to the managment is wasting time. All we hear that I am sorry that it will not happen again so far.
According to you that prior managment has not done anyhting and full of faults. You need to share some names that were underserving in CER last year.
As I said before everything will be great from your point of view now.
is blog pe romance hain, saajish hain, dosti hain, dushmani hain .. kya baat hain !!! mind blowing, outstanding, superb .. :-)
Aditya Said:

-------------
I dont think it matters what you think when all the players are complaining. If you are wise, get your head out of ass and acknowledge you made a mistake and try to fix it. But I think we already heard enough of "sorry, wont happen again". Let's hear once more!
You guys accused Tariq of favortism, stealing money and what's this? The first step you do coming to power is give business to your preferred vendor. Why are you so hesitant to declare who is the current vendor you chose for balls?
If you are trying to save money, dont do it at cost of decreasing standard of cricket. Plz try to keep the standard which this league is famous for and focus more on cricket than parties and entertainment.
About the lights issue at night opening, I cannot believe your management made sure the DJ was there, the music was there, the food was there but nobody thought about cricket if the ground was ready and lights were working!!! You guys are bunch of Lalit Modis who are more interested in parties, music, djs, food and fun and who cares about lights, quality of balls, cutting grass, short boundaries.... If you had sense of cricket, all those would have never happened.
I think your next idea will be Let's save some money and move to some cheaper grounds and bring IPL cheerleaders?
To all the above who are blowing horns that you have such a large management, it's all bunch of thieves sitting at top, 40 thieves...which were waiting for their turn to eat up Midwest after Tariq leaves. We saw perfect example of it by you providing business to your fav vendor.
Further you said:
Earlier the complaint was that the CER team was done last minute, there were some undeserving players, and no transparency. Now you're complaining that there is transparency, it isn't last minute, and that others are being considered?
-------------
The only people complaining last years were people who are in your management. The team performed very well last two years, winning all the CER games. What else should they have achieved?
By the way, I believe all the players who were selected last year are in your 40 probable list.
Also, when will I be allowed to play in ACC? Since this blog started, you all have been campaigning to allow ACC and MWCC players to play in each league, so why dont you do it now when you are running the league? I guess now you are learning that it's easy to sit out and blog but but PLAYING cricket and RUNNING league is tough.
God Bless Midwest for next two years, and keep it protected from the 40 thieves and Sadiq Baba.
Ali Baba,
Don't hit so hard on Adi, he is agent 001 for this management. He is talking about transparency, process but did forget about intergarity.
Shahid, Yousaf , Asif, Amit, Faisal (name few) were not deserving players for last year team. They have to go through trials. btw c8w is going to take their trial -interesting and funny!!!!!
If they don't show up for trials, is this selection committee not going to select them? I hope that's the case. c8w I need your response on this.
Balls do suck - I don't know what match agent 001 was playing ! where ball did swing after 30 overs, may be he was batting eyes closed.
Madew, don't suck to c8w that much - he is not going to through your from selection panel. What he did other day was wrong. He should have stopped the game right away when rain started, not playing after 10 overs. He did good job by protecting his as....., to give united a chance to tie the game. If you're happy what can we do. You speak both side of your mouth. Get ready for chargers, don't forget order subs and keep the ground in playing condition.
I give credit to Shekhs for trying hard but all 40 other choors are going to hurt him badly.
Communication did improved in this management era. Things are handled with more prefessionalism.
Ali_Baba Sir,
I have seen Shekhs bhai himself redo the boundaries on the 20-20 opener day in the morning and then making sure that the grass is cut by talking to the folks there. Regarding the lights, the park district did tell us that the lights were working the previous week. But they somehow just did not start during the match.
Also the information about the vendors for the balls was given out in the AGM.
Lights didn't come on properly at Dambulla during the Asia Cup match between India and Bangladesh... MCC Mgmt to blame.. Shekhs Aravind should assume responsibility for this..
Sadiq Baba.. that is funny :) could not stop laughing..
c8w, even though you watch us play and deligently monitor our stats etc. in my honest opinion your involvement should not go beyond guiding the process.. pick a good captain and let him pick the 15 and the 11. You and Madew just guide him. Make this clear to the league and let the blog take things up with the Captain :) There is no need for me to say this bcoz as an umpire you already know - no matter what you do no one is going to give you credit :)
Aditya, you have played a few more games now.. care to change your stance on the balls? Having played half a dozen games, I have to agree with others, all the balls in the set were bad and that they are crap. But, if it is an honest error I think its ok. If it can be fixed this season then great.. if not in the interst of the game pls make sure this does not repeat next season.
Shekhs : "based on the quality of those balls, we'll pick the best and order them up front during the off season." my suggestion is dont make things worse for yourself.. pick the ones that have worked before.
