WTTW Channel 11 will be doing a segment on cricket, and the Abid Laheri tournament, today (Wednesday) night at 7pm, as part of their news-magazine show "Chicago Tonight". They "teased" it last night already at the end of their show.. saying "is the cricket bug catching on in Chicago? We'll go to Hanover Park tomorrow, where the biggest cricket league in the country plays" etc.. the show will be replayed at midnight and also at 10pm on WTTW-2, ie WTTW-Prime.

Why can we not give a constructive suggestions to the management rather than being negative in our comments.
The new management is doing a decent job so far, and you cannot expect everything to run like a production unit from the word go.
Give them this season to get used to the demands of the situation, and if they cannot get better by next season then you can aim your arrows.
Let's get on with what we love most, playing cricket.. good balls bad balls is something no two ppl will agree the same way so let's move on and talk something productive..

I personally don't like the new balls either since they get really crappy if there is moisture on ground, but they are fine otherwise. However the time given to current management wasen't enough to order the grays balls. 3 weeks to start the season??? But we started on time with entire schdule as promised!!! Wp grounds were little smaller first but now they are as big as possible. Grass has been cut on regular bases.

So that players/bloggers can start their own thread and keep it open for forever. I will look into it.

Totally agree. Playing conditions are very good, which matters the most (not saying it was not good season before). We don't have any issues with "the balls" (may be because of our limited bowling/swinging skills ;)).

Here is the deal. Your impression of Shekhs's management team is that it sucks and has done a terrible job after just about 2 months. Give him at least 1 season. And you're willing to give the previous management all the leeway after 12 years?
I believe their first 6 years were impressive, but I wasn't around for that. I only saw the last 4 years or so, and it just didn't do justice to our league. They should have done better.
Seems like even if Shekhs and team could control the lights, weather, ground conditions, etc to make a perfect season, it wouldn't satisfy you and a few others one bit.
So, although logic may not be your M.O, humour definitely is, whether you're intending it that way or not. Please keep sharing your views, because they sure do add entertainment value. I'm sure some of your views may even lead to management doing something - unlike in previous years.

Yes, you are right, my opinion was based on the one game. I personally don't think the balls are damn good or anything. They're acceptable from the point of view that they last the full 40 overs and don't need to be changed unlike the balls from 3 and 4 years ago. But, I've found that they don't swing as much and make it easier for the batsmen.
So yeah, I feel that from a larger sampling - 4 games - the balls aren't as good as the balls last year.

You guys are the best. For 6 years you've been blind, but in the last 2 months the V***ra has suddenly improved your eyesight? And I say V***ra because you guys were pretty "limp" in highlighting the issues of the league before now. But it's wonderful to see you stand erect and proud for what you don't believe in!! There's a "vas deferens" in you now!! :):):) Keep up the good work, and I'm sure there is a light at the rear end of the tunnel you're in (because you do want to go back to previous management, right??).
One small point you should be aware of - management does not run this blog. It's INDEPENDENT. We have a couple of writers who happen to be on management, but they don't run the blog either. That's why this is not a pro or anti management blog - it's just a blog that is pro comments, even if they come from you. :)
So keep posting, and keep it up (with or without your V***ra).
Friends: This blog is an amazing tool for INFORMAL communication and for sharing your views and thoughts on various aspects of the game. I find that it is being used to bash the system and to settle some personal points, which to me is abuse of the blog. Further, it will help if u use your real name rather than hide behind pseudonyms, this way all participants can connect a face to the name and know your wisdom.
To all those "management bashers", it is important to be dignified in defeat and not let true character surface by the choice of inappropriate language and character assasination. This will hurt you more than help and may come to haunt in your future endeavors. Who knows, maybe some of your loose cannon or personal comments which cross the line of decency and acceptability, may attract legal ramifications, if the injured party so desires; I am not sure but why risk?
Kindly accept reality and move on to let the democratically elected management, function and deliver. Having said that, never hesitate from throwing punches in a constructive/suggestive manner, which I am sure maybe welcome. Also such inputs will surely keep the management on its toes and on top of its performance.
So let us sink the differences, if any. The common goal should be to ensure a wonderful cricketing experience in the 3 to 4 months window we have. Let us not mess this by uncalled distraction, disturbing the decorum . Thanks!!

We were there at the agm meeting to see the stampede. It has been 74 days since you took over the office and one of the documents 5013C is not done yet. Usually, good accountants take couple of weeks to get one. Make sure you get it in your elected term. I am not asking financial transparency on the blog but over the years you and your cronies have been crying to provide it on Midwest Site. It was also said from you in Election that each month every penny will be shared with all the teams. So why do you not take some efforts to mail to at least the teams. Try to deliver what you promised we worry the quality later.

On the balls discrepancy the message was delivered to the old management. They were quite upset with Shekh’s negated statement. It is totally up to them to respond to you.
On Aditya – He thinks that he is Rush Limbaugh. If he can not see the difference between Grays and the crap balls then he does not know much cricket. He will justify all the bloopers and make a mockery of himself rather to accept that it was not done properly.

I do realize that you can't read, but I'm not the one carrying the V***ra. You'll have to check with "Talli Baba", because he needed it to keep "suck it up" happy. It's like musical chairs with you guys, everyone's looking for it, but one of you always has it.
I didn't realize the balls were such a big issue for you. But it's pretty obvious that it would be. Honestly it isn't a big deal for me as long as we don't have to keep changing it every 20 overs.
I'm not sure why you think that the lights, DJ, etc are my responsibility. I haven't really done any of that stuff - the credit goes to the management team who have worked hard to put up an event for everyone - which I'm not a part of.
But there are some thing that should be appreciated:
1. Season started early - May 1.
2. The entire/complete/whole schedule was out in advance for all divisions.
3. People are sending it change requests for scheduling and those are being reviewed and responded to.
4. The playoffs are scheduled to end earlier to avoid games being played in 39 degree weather.
5. Communication is on a different level - much much better from the entire management.
6. They got the Mayor to come to inaugurate the ALNT season and apparently June 7 is known as MwCC day in Hanover Park - or some such thing. I think Alpesh/Shekhs/Moe can elaborate more.
7. Selection is being done by an independent pannel - not just by 2-3 people in the management. Don't just bash Sadiq, there are 4 others who are working hard to give people a chance to represent at the CER.
8. Fees have been reduced by $250-350 (depending on your division). Somehow, the league is being run with a budget of $15k less than last year.
9. We heard about efforts being made to acquire new grounds - lets see if that materializes.
10. Shekhs and his team are in Chicago, working to improve the league, and spend their time trying to respond to all sorts of questions. That's new!
And yes, some of the areas they need to improve upon:
1. Balls
2. Financial Statements
3. An explanation about the league exclusivity rule so that people understand why it has been kept, even though they may not like it.
4. An update on the Sponsorship and Not-for-Profit status
And maybe a free supply of V***ra for all the "haters".

Also, while there might be some short comings in the management, but we are trying our best. If you feel it is not good enough, you always have the option of calling an AGM as a member of the league, and have a referendum mid season and replace us. We will even help you post the ivite on the website if needed. Also, we promised Quarterly Statements, not monthly, 1st of which you saw on the AGM in the last week of April, next one you will see in July. If you need to see any thing prior to that, please write to Treasurer@Midwestcricket.org with your name and affliate club, and let us know if the information has not been provided. If you are truly concerned about this, please undertake this exercise and share your experience with the rest of the Bloggers. I can assure you, it would be better than what it had been in the past.
We have ordered new cricket balls, and hopefully will be able to address, what has evolved to be the BallGate of this management soon. Although, I feel, that would still be not good enough for Namastey, Billoger, Ali Baba and Suck..

I didn't know Rush Limbaugh was into gray, crap, or cricket balls! When did that happen?
What was not done properly? Did the management not make the balls properly? Did they forget to sow the seams properly. The previous management didn't make the balls either. But they did make an effort to change the vendor and get better balls - the next season. So if the balls suck this season, then live up to your name, suck it up, and send an email to management asking them to get better balls next season.
Stop whining about it like a 2 year old - nothing can be done right now, can it? It's not like the management can wave a magic wand can they? I think they've got the message - so I'm sure they'll make the change for the next season.
You want to whine about something, do it about the financial statements. That is something that can/should be addressed now.

Season started early - May 1. not a big deal. Last year May 08
The entire/complete/whole schedule was out in advance for all divisions.
I am sure you did that so you get the credit for it.
People are sending it change requests for scheduling and those are being reviewed and responded to. –
I thought you did not like rescheduling games in last management. All of the sudden it changes your perspective.
The playoffs are scheduled to end earlier to avoid games being played in 39 degree weather.
But the games are played earlier in cold temperature so it is even out.
Communication is on a different level - much much better from the entire management. –
We do not receive in advance any game changes on the same day notification. No other communication properly sent to the teams. The ids are created for all the teams but no email sent to them.
They got the Mayor to come to inaugurate the ALNT season and apparently June 7 is known as MwCC day in Hanover Park - or some such thing. I think Alpesh/Shekhs/Moe can elaborate more.
What would you accomplish with all of that?
Selection is being done by an independent panel - not just by 2-3 people in the management. Don't just bash Sadiq, there are 4 others who are working hard to give people a chance to represent at the CER.
How many people are in selection now and compare to there 5 . They both have the same number of people
Fees have been reduced by $250-350 (depending on your division). Somehow, the league is being run with a budget of $15k less than last year.
You reduce the fee here but increase the USACA fee. That means the budget will be the same as last year.
We heard about efforts being made to acquire new grounds - let’s see if that materializes.
They should get at least 2 grounds this year. Let’s give some time.
Shekhs and his team are in Chicago, working to improve the league, and spend their time trying to respond to all sorts of questions. That's new!
We will evaluate after 6 months the achievements of this management. There are lots of questions not being answered through communication. Let’s work on that one.

The only value I add related to the MwCC is on this blog, so don't look too hard elsewhere for my MwCC contributions.
Most of my life revolves outside the MwCC fortunately, but on days like this week, where it's been a little slow, the entertainment value is tough to resist.
And your theories on my ancestry matter to me about as much as your value-add. ;-)

It was a very good turnout yesterday at the CER trials. We all very much appreciate everybody making time to showup on a weekday. The attitude of each and everyone was A+. We encourage all others and who already came yesterday to attend rest of the CER trials. We will do our best to be honest and fair in selecting our final squad. See you all on Saturday 19th June for next trials 6:30-9:30pm at Hanover Park. Thanks again....

I will be more than happy to give you an update on ACC and league exclusivity rule, but since this is not an official forum I cannot divulge any information regarding the movement on exclusivity rule. Believe me all of us in management are as eager to lift the ban as you, but we must understand that the problem is more deeply rooted than most of you think. As someone eluded earlier that ACC is actively ground poaching and we have lost exclusive rights to Heritage Park. I ask any of you, would you sit back and let your territory be invaded? As I said I will be more than happy to do a one on one or discuss this issue in an official capacity.

Blogger, I wouldnt say anything about bashing or not bashing the old management but I think it is unfair to bash the new management at this point for one simple reason: it is too early! At least wait till the "first hundred days in office" to make a proper judgement and comparison. :)
Sunil......let's goto court and we can always get advice since he has previously screwed our league by sueing us in court, but I am not sure if our new mgmt have the heart protect the league if 10 to 20 grand price tag is attanched to it.

You guys are doing great. Its barely been three months since you took over. Considering the fact that you barely had a few weeks to prepare for the season, your performance has been splendid. Remember, its one thing to be prompt in getting back to member complaints, but you guys don't have sit and argue with fools. What Sadiq does is best. He takes an argument, turns it upside down, responds to every single accusation, till they accusers get frustrated and start throwing tantrums...that's when he disappears :)
My team - Titans is looking for a good batsman. Let me know if anybody is interested in playing for us.

jaguars beat chicago giants. from what i have heard, game was reduced to 25 overs due to rain. Giants batted first 117 allout. Jaguars chased it comfortably with contributions from asad, pabba and satyam.
wow.. milwaukee panthers won back to back games this weekend. first they successfully defended 200 against titans and then they defended 122 against evanston.

Chicago, a train from Union Station to Hanover Park, and his plan was to take a bus back to Union Station at 10:30pm, and

This story could be about US politics. The old president - Bush. The new leader - Obama. The 3 stooges - Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and Michael Steele.

Purdue won 3-4 wickets, while Eagles-CCI match was rained out/abandoned due to unplayable conditions at Washington Park #3.
Challengers beat WC by 5 wickets.
WC made 107 with Nilesh, Bhavesh and Sanjay taking 2 each.
WC made a good comeback by removing 4 wickets for 20 odd, but Nilesh And Afroze brought challengers home in 18-19 overs.
I guess we know why Sarah (Ady) didnt respond for sometime, because you were preparing answers and taking class, Right Wing 101:)

CCI / Eagles looks like you dont have management by your side.. When it rains for the management favored teams...they feel it is ok to "share" the rival grounds and hence a game is moved onto WP 1...
Why is this happening.. Why did this two teams settle for a rain out while the certain management team match was played out for a result 2 weeks ago at WP 1.. What sucks for them is they also managed to lose that game

Atleast we could have a decent bat who can bat in 50 over game. I do agree he was not suited for last year format. I hope all superstars are going to show up in today's and tomorrow's sessions.

This is another classic example of inconsistencies in this league that some of the games got moved on the same day but not this one. I wonder who could fill us with her great logically explanations I suppose Sarah palin will have the reason not moving this game.
It is a simple reason to please the teams that have not voted for them so that next election they get their votes.

I think you should put him at least in the team because of his committment. However, he did not play a single game for Arena. So, you should give him a chance.
Selectors are still working on a real team. The cheif selector needs some more time how to find the elimination techniques on some of the last years players from the team? So, he is reading a book on that.
The team names will be posted on the same day they travel to Detriot. How this is different than last management process except create nuisance to the players?
Efforts were made to give CCI-Eagles a game, but even Washington Park #2 was still water-logged on Sunday due to heavy downpour on Friday evening. The Washington Park# 1 is only available until 2 PM on Sundays, hence there was no chance of getting even a 20 over game there.

How come all of the sudden you guys believe in rescheduling games now. How does this justify to the teams who have the rained out and split the points. Is this fair for other teams who are supposed to get 2 points but get 0 points after rescheduling.
Last year all of you bitched about the games moved a day before with the same “rain reason” but not on the same day. We also received the management email confirmation as well but now no one knows what is going on? Aditya was on the top of the list against of rescheduling but he is happy now. Is it justifiable now?

On a cricket related note, please note to all that the Purdue ground has changed. It's near the old ground. The ground is definitely a down-grade from the previous one. The previous one was a pretty good ground, but this one has some issues. The main one is that you can play only on one side - you can't play on the other because it faces the airport, and so any big hits means the ball cannot be retrieved!! The "silver lining" is that the game goes a lot faster.
Just something to be aware of - it's not the Purdue team's fault obviously. They have to deal with the same limitations for all their home games.
Despite that, we had a good game. They put us in to bat and we were looking good for at 105/3 odd around the 25th over when we collapsed and put up only 140. It's a tough ground to score on, and 160 would have been decent, but they did very well to restrict us. They started well especially Somyang. We managed to get wickets and squeeze them, but Somyang pulled them through till about 95 odd. Once he fell, we had a chance (needing 5 more wickets). We managed to get Sachin pretty cheap, but Neeraj got 1 chance and he made it count.
Congrats to Purdue on a good win and thanks again for being such good hosts. Good luck for the future games.

Maaz - on a weekday evening (for Peoria trial), Hansraj couldnt get out of work to attend it; weekend was possible. Plus Chicago would have more players and selectors present.
It was quite an effort - last week both Hansraj and Samir Raorane from Arena were going to drive to Moline and play a game, then, after finishing it, drive to Hanover Park for the trial, and then drive back to StLouis after
10:30pm Saturday night! (they sent an email asking if it would be ok if they arrived at trials late, by 7:30 or so, since theyd be leaving Moline immediately after their game ended at 5pm :-) Unfortunately it rained (both in Moline, which was rained out and denied them a game; and in Hanover - which resulted in the trial being postponed by a week).
This week, the Arena game was on Saturday. Since Hans felt he couldnt make a weekday evening trial in Peoria due to work, he skipped the Arena game (Samir is planning on attending the weekday trial), and undertook his marathon journey to attend the trials at Hanover.. bus from StLouis to Union Station, train to Hanover Park, attend trials, leave by 10:15pm, catch last train (at 10:40pm) to Union Station, bus (at 1:30am) back to StLouis! (Nasir Mehmood of Flames kindly agreed to drop Hans at Union Station on Saturday night post-trials - thus at least saving him a 1-hour train journey! Thanks Nasir!)
The selectors would like to thank everyone who has shown the committment to show up for trials so far - its been terrific, theyve all brought their A-game too. And a special thank to Hans - for someone who has only been in our league for a year to have that sort of committment to it is really remarkable, and something we're deeply grateful for.
There is one more trial tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. Hope to see everyone out there again!

Umpired Milwaukee/Flames in Milwaukee yesterday. Tight win for Flames.
Fahad was his usual self at the start - the young run-machine, working it around, playing some shots (on a heavy outfield), running the opposition ragged. They gave him a couple of chances (slip and keeper,off Kabir and Asif), but he batted excellently to get 56. It was 92/2 off 22, before Flames slipped to 135/7. First TJ and then Moin carried them to 169 in the end. On a very heavy outfield that was a good score.
Milwaukee started with Romesh and Kabir, facing Nasir and Shankar. Very good contest, Nasir with pace and incut, Shankar bowling some beautiful outswing, both batsmen taking on anything loose. Kabir was caught off Shankar, and Quentin then came on and got Khawar. Romesh batted terrifically well, solid, choosing balls well, playing shots all over on a very heavy outfield.. and then, playing for the break with 2 overs left, got a short ball that he was caught in two-minds about pulling and was caught at squareleg for a topscore of 40. 80/4 at break.
Post-break Asif and Shakir carried it to 115/4 (55 runs away), good positive batting. They took on Nasir on his return (despite his bowlnig with good pace), got 8 off 4 balls.. and then Asif defended away from his body and caught an inside edge onto his stumps. Next over Shakir pulled Nasir for six.. and then, last ball of over, prodded forward to push outside off and was caught behind. Terrific cricket all around, now 127/6 (43 to win).
Shankar then returned, and bowled beautifully again. Even with the older ball, terrific outswing, gorgeous ball that straightened and took offstump to Taylor, next over perfect yorker that hit base of middlestump of Ali.
Moin returned to get Umer. Flames dragged it to 153/9, 17 to win off 4 overs, getting tight again. Last man then hit it to short midoff and ran, Shankar swooped in, picked up, and threw down the stumps on a direct hit, all over.
Terrific game, 2 good sides. Fun game to umpire.

an update on the CCI games:
The Muslim Gymkhana game was truncated to 35 overs to give time to mend a slushy runup on one end. CCI were put into bat and we managed to score 177 thanks to a late charge from Imran and Jag. M.Gym shook off the loss of wickets early in their innings and batted very sensibly, guided by Imaad - 75, to finish the game with 2 overs to spare and 4 wickets at hand. Special thanks to M.Gym to get the game started inspite of an imperfect bowler's approach to the wicket.
As for the other game: On Sunday 11 of us got up early, drove three hours to Washington Park only to learn that the game against Eagles was unplayable becasue of rain on "Friday".

My sincere apologies to you and the entire CCI team for this mishap. I can empathize the hardships, you must have gone through to travel when you had played a match the previous day and then to figure out that the match was not possible.

This makes it important that we refrain or restrain from making personal comments in bad taste on individuals, especially those who are blogging with their real identities as the thin veil of mutual trust, confidence and friendship is broken when lines are crossed. I am sure the feelings are no different when it comes to my friends with assumed identities, when they are attacked in this forum. Do we really want to hurt somebody's social, personal or professional life, even if it is inadvertently? The choice surely is yours!!
I am sure you are all aware that this blog, though private, is open to one and all who is following the destiny of cricket in Midwest/USA, this could be anybody from the public, cricket fans, members of the media, other leagues, officials or anybody from any of our family or friends circle. - don't just raise a problem, pls.also come up with a solution, that is value add
