wow..what a semi-final weekend...

I feel terrible or Waqas and the giants....sorry fellas...excellent season..

Tough luck Ajoy and gang...had a good run yourself...

Once again, a great season for Shahid and Pak gym...they keep proving how they are one of the top teams in the league..great game fellas..

Tough luck Milwaukee...you guys made it to the semis this year...crossing over the hurdle of going deep in the playoffs..great season..just bumped into a deep and talented Peoria team..

as for all the winners....Congrats!!

I'm kinda happy to see coupla away teams in Div 2 finals. Kind throws in a wrench in the whole div 2 scenario...

It'll be a good game - Rovers Vs. QC...

Yusuf bhai and his merry men from Peoria will be a tough team to play in the finals for challengers..another cracker...!!

On behalf of Peoria I would like to congrats to:

Challenger, QC Kings & Jolly Rovers

Also best of luck for Pak Gym, Milwaukee, Arena & Chicago Giants for upcoming 2010 season. All of these teams are well positioned for next year.

We had a great game against Milwaukee – they had a tremendous start but not able to capitalize on it.

Peoria vs Challengers will be great game as Sheks said.

Experience + Talent vs. Youth + Depth

Its been a great season for us, losing 4 out 5 games at the start of season and making into final is great feelings BUT job is not done yet. Also, we lost players like Tayyab, Satha, Madan, Ashwin, CD, Vivek and Krishna for 2009 season. But depth of leadership in this team proved nothing is impossible if you've will and passion for the game. Our core (Kiran, Madhu, Kalyan, Anirudh, Ravi & Yousaf) was intact and we said to outselves we will be back. Young & new additions like Chakri, Dev, Asad, Kashif & Talal stepped up big time to fill big shoes and they did fabulous job. We do have players like Praveen Papireddy and Tarun waiting for opportunity in upcoming season.

Looking forward for great Div I , II & 30/30 Final.

Good luck to all finalists.

Special props to Peoria, no one would have ever thought they will make to finals after loosing there all star lineup. Good work guys!!! Challengers are a dynasty so nothing less can be expected from them:) I hope leauge can arrange for some chai for finals. See you all there if its warm!!!

Great win Challengers, Peoria, QC kings and Rovers...... Good luck for the finals.... Looking forward to all three finals next weekend....

Unknown said...

Congratulations to all the finalists!

The Panthers are a great bowling and fielding side and the Centurions are probably the most disciplined team in the entire leaugue, it should be a great game!

One has to give it to the Challengers, they've been doing this year in year out for so long now. Awesome performers! And Peoria has looked so strong all season. The 2 most deserving teams will have to slug it out!

I know a few of the QC Kings and not many from the Rovers, but havin followed what people say about them, it might well be worth making the journey to watch them in action.

Good luck to everybody, but a special shout out to some of my buddies like Charlie, Buchiya, Shekhs and Madhu.

Is the finals on Diwali day? I hope the league will have the finals on sunday and let the guys celebrate Diwali with their family :(

Alpesh, any word on it or is it just a guess? I see the div 3030 finals listed as saturday..But the weather looks a little better on Sunday than Saturday..

Alpesh said...

Dinesh, All the 3 finals will be played on the same day .. hence, i think the finals will be on the Diwali day .. unless you all write to Mgmt to postpone it on Sunday ...

Shekhs said...

I know that the 30-30 finals is listed on saturday, but I believe all the 3 finals are going to played on the same day, like Appu mentioned above.

I'll let you folks know soon..

Congratulations to all the teams playing in finals.

Hard luck rest of the teams that played and for making it another exciting great summer of cricket and best wishes for the next year.

Thanks for all the kind words and we are sure excited to play the finals after playing two very good games with Titans/Giants.

Satish

Alpesh said...

Satish/Dinesh ..

It will definitely be a great final ... QC Kings was able defend their scores in the QF and SF, while Rovers chased about more than 180 in the QF and SF ... Why don't you guys just do not toss the coin in the finals ... QC Kings should bat first and Rovers should chase .. :)

Shekhs said...

thanks Romeen...
howya been?
are you back blogging?
hahaha....

anybody up for a blogger's nite out..?

Dinesh_Rovers said...

Good idea Alpesh...No coin toss in the finals..:)

but my captain might elect to bat first, just to annoy Satish or you...

Man, u r still influencing the finals even though you are not in it...

Shekhs said...

Just FYI..

All the finals - 30-30, Div 2 and Div 1 are all on sunday - Oct 18th. This is confirmed..

good luck to all the finalists this weekend!

my prediction: peoria will win Div 1 title, they have too much depth and variety in both bowling and batting. It should be a god match though as challengers are always a tough opponent and have a lot of playoff experience.

Alpesh said...

I want Challengers to win Div 1 ... Rovers to win Div 2 and Centurions to win 30-30 ..

The reason I want Rovers to win is drive to Peoria is longer than Moline ... and also QC Kings provide very good food ... :-)

Quintin said...

Thanks Alpesh for the trust in us Centurions. I'll make sure with,, my fellow team mates that, that happens this Sunday.

Alpesh said...

All The Best Quintin for tomorrow ..

I am not seeing much interest here at the blog for the finals .. hopefully there will be interest tomorrow at Washington Park ..

Anyways .. All The Best to all the teams in the finals ..

Well .. since I have been involved in Div 2 ... I can make some comments on Div 2 finalists ...

QC Kings are a very good bowling side .. also their catching is very good ... they drop very few catches ... Batting is the weakest point .. but they have potential match-winners in Hari, Anuj. Plus Sunil C, Satish, Pankaj are very good alrounders ...

Rovers is a very very good all-round side ... Plus terrific fielding to save runs .. they catching - a bit shoddy ... I bet on Dinesh to anchor the innings once again .. And Ravi Patel is a bowler similar to Hansraj (Arena. This could be the reason, why Rovers beat Arena) :-) ....

Anyways ... play fair and hard .. and give us the finals to remember ... ALL THE BEST... ALL THE BEST ...

moe moe said...

brief update. peoria batted first got about 176 and challengers are one down in 2nd over.

An update on the 30/30 game - Centurions win by 15 runs in a nailbiting game against Panthers.

Sheks, congrats to you & your teammates on behalf of Peoria. We will be back next year :). It was great game. Afroze played exceptionally well and got great support from Nirav. Great Job.

At the start of the 2009 season I made prediction on wrap to Sadiq that Peoria will be much better team than last year (2008, we lost in semis). But I got feedback it will be tough for us after losing 6 or 7 players. For next year we do have couple of good players who didn't get the chance at all this year but they are well prepared to play in next year Division 1 (i.e. Tarun and Praveen Papireddy).

Congrats to Rovers and Good luck to them in Div-I. See you guys next year.

Moaz, I'm sorry we didn't live up to your prediction!

Well done Humayun for food, water and ground prep job !!!! It was well hosted. It was fun season.

Congratulations to all the winners.

We sure had our chances in the field which could have altered the game but great effort from Dinesh to ensure comfortable victory in the end. I wish them good luck next year in Div I.

We are very happy with our performance this year. I hope we build on this to be more consistent in playoffs before claiming the championship.

Have a nice winter break everyone.

Congrats on winning the finals!!
Welcome to Div 1...
nah...I wouldnt sweat over it...what I've learnt in div 1 is that...any team can beat any other team...it really doesnt matter..

we did have a good run in the playoffs...so we are very happy with that...and absolutely thrilled ...

It was really nice to meet ya..so hopefully next year's bloggers game, you could make it..

Good luck!!

Shiraz said...

Congratulations to all the winners. Challengers, never dipped through the season, always on top and fittingly finsihed that way too.

Rovers had a great run and good luck in Division 1.

And Centurions.. What a playoff run, beating some favorites on the way to the cup. Good Luck Quentin and all..

Commiserations for the Runners Up. It is definitely one of the toughest places to be. Almost there is a feeling you all will talk about all off season. Just keep your heads high and try again next year. QC, Peoria and Panthers.. You made it to the finals, a big feat in itself..

I wish all the cricketers of MCC a safe and prosperous off season. I wish you all health and happiness during this time with your families. Hopefully we will see all of you next year again in stride.

where is your love for challengers or far that matter any of the winners of the finals, no game summary, nice little post games that you have been doing so far, it was nice for someone like me who isn't playing but enjoyed your pre/post game summaries because thay were entertaining, they might have been little biased sometimes but mostly accurate (just kidding on the bias part). I just couldn't take it anymore so i hasd to post this, so i know it's way past the finals and everything but if you can post the summary, i'll be willing to read it.

That’s good news Shekhs. A change in leadership might be a step in the right direction for this league.

This is a win-win situation for all the teams. Jaggi might have come up short last time, but he sure seemed to wake up Tariq and the rest of the slackers. Our league saw a lot of positive results following those elections.

I urge all the teams to send their representatives to the debate, and make the right call based on their assessments of both candidates.

Shekhs

many of us have great enthusiasm for cricket and as well as time for it...so i would like you to address the rule of only playing in one league as suppose to playing in other leagues as well like ACC...what is your stand on it?

Shekhs said...

Cricketcaptain,
I personally would like to scrap the league exclusivity rule as soon as possible.
I believe that nobody should be restricted to play, as long as they dont get paid for it or are bound by a contract.
We all pay to play, so obviously should have a choice in where we want to play.

Here are some things we may have to resolve before we change that rule:
1. Identify a way to have each player have a primary league associated with the individual, so that, when it comes to CER and other tournaments, we know exactly which league each player should represent.

2. Make sure that we dont lose talent and the competitive edge we have in the region, by opening up the gates.

We are trying to formulate a plan to execute this. Hopefully, we will figure something out soon.

thanks
Shekhs

MastaKilla said...

SHEKS I must say I love the fact that you are going to scrap the whole exclusivity rule. I myself am considering playing for a team in the acc that I was recruited by but I don't want to stop playing in the Midwest either. If you sti this rule I think we will see an increase in players in our league as well because there are many people that are in a situation similar to mine. I hope everything goes well in your campaign and you become the president. If I can be of any help you have my contact info so just shoot me a text. Thanx. Good luck buddy.

Hey guys,

USACA has announced the 23-man probable list for the USA national team, to attend a camp etc - from which 16 will be chosen to play for the USA in the T20 World Cup qualifier in UAE in January.

Only 1 guy from our league makes the 23-man probables - Ashhar Mehhdi from PakGym. Congrats to him! (In addition, another former MCC-guy makes it - Samarth Shah, formerly of CCI in Div2 and United in Div1, is also in the 23-man list representing North-West Region).

3 guys from the Central-East are in the list- apart from Ashhar, Usman Shuja and Akhil Pathan, the 2 pacemen from ICML (the team that lost to MCC in the finals of the CER) are in the 23-man list.

Its pretty sad that players of the calibre of Shahid, Amit, Asif etc (all of whom were in the 40-man list announced before this 23-man list) have not made this squad IMHO.

But good luck to Ashhar (and Samarth!) Hope both make the final USA squad for the World Cup!

c8w

P.S. The full 23-man list is:

------------------
List of Senior Team Probables

Atlantic Region: Imran Awan, Clain Williams.

Central East Region: Ashhar Mehdi (wk), Akhil Pathan, Khawaja Usman Shuja.

Central West Region: Orlando Baker.

New York Region: George Adams, Lennox Cush, Kevin Darlington, Sudesh Dhaniram, Akeem Dodson (wk), Glen Hall, Rashard Marshall, Steve Massiah, Dennison Thomas, Carl Wright (wk).

North West Region: Mohammad Bilal Khan, Nauman Mustafa (wk), Samarth Shah, Saurabh Verma.

South East Region: Anand Tummala.

South West Region: Aditya Thyagarajan, Ravi Timbawala.

mates,
i don't know if you noticed, but seems like the incumbent are shit scared, that they now change the rules of engagement to win the goddamn elections.
hahahaha this is hilarious
Aint that something????

Now we need to pay $300 to vote or its more like we need to pay to get Mr .Ahmed out of the freaking management.

Can we get a freaking break???

Unknown said...

DOES ANY TEAM EVER GET A STATEMENT TO KNOW PAST BALANCE DUE?
WHAT IF AT THE TIME OF ELECTION HE COMES UP AND SAYS YOUR TEAM HAS PAST DUE BALANCE OF $2.00 FOR XYZ AND YOU CAN'T VOTE.
WITH EVERYTHING HAPPENING I DON'T SEE A REASON WHY THIS WON'T HAPPEN.
GUYS TARIQ IS SCARED AND THIS IS MOST SCARED I'VE SEEN HIM IN WHILE.
TARIQ GIVE UP WHILE YOU ARE AHEAD, JOIN HANDS WITH YOUR OPPOSITION AND ALLOW SMOOTH TRANSITION.
SHEKHS KUDOS TO YOU FOR STANDING UP AND SCARING THIS MONSTER.

Anonymous said...

Disgusting!

Tariq seems to change the rules before election time. Remember last time he removed this blog from the MWCA website before elections?

Its just arrogance talking now. He doesn't care what we think of him.

As a matter of principle, teams should not vote Tariq this time...for destroying the democratic fabric of our league.

I hope the other sensible members of management boycott Tariq this time around too.

Shekhs said...

fellas..
I completely understand your feeling....and frustration.
But, right now is not the time to panic and throw it away.
Lets adhere to the rules and contact each of your team captains and let the repsonsible person know about the registration fee.
I know its annoying, but boycotting and rebelling right now will only hurt us.

So, lets focus and make sure we are eligible to vote.
I promise you that if my team wins this election, we will return that $300.00 or reimburse each team.

Lets do it fellas...

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns...
