The final result - MCA won best of 3 (2/1). It was a 30 overs match

These kids rock!! I will try to post recording on utube.

Mini world cup was a blast. I got to know not only some good cricketers but also made some good friends. I saw some belligerent batting from Bhavesh, darshan, tushar, ankur, ashish and adi. I also saw some excellent bowling by naren, mankesh and ankur. The catches that Charlie, ashish, naren, tushar and mankesh took were out of this world.
It was an honor to play with a great bunch of guys. And against great teams like USA 11 and the Pak teams. I wish we had the oppurtunity to play against India Orange, another fantastic team. But will wait for the next edition for that.
Thank you mgmt for a good outing. Especially Humayun. That guy is a work horse. And shekhs, always a live wire. Also to the Eagles and Jaguars guys who showed up each day to root for the team.
Naren, i will send the pics today.

It was great fun playing in the Mini World Cup. The management has done an excellent job of putting this Event together this year. It was just amazing. Kudos to Tariq and his team for putting up a great show. Unfortunately, not many people turned up for the viewing. I wish there were more people there to enjoy the game. I hope we continue with the trend and keep on scheduling events as such regularly in the coming years. We lost to a competitive India Blue side in the Semis, but it was great fun. I was particularly impressed by some youngsters such as Salman (Bears), Naseer (Sonics), Alkesh, Usman Lakhwers (Giants) and a few others. This event was great for thier development and exposure to the rest of the league.

Last Night I played my 4th game in 3 days and arguabbly the most important one as the Playoff contention was dependent upon the results of our Re-Scheduled games of the Regular Season against Challengers. The game was reduced to 30 overs, form 45, as it was played under lights at Hanover Park. Challengers had scored a very competitive 185 in 29.3 overs with Mahesh providing the chunck of the runs, 35 odd, IIRC. We dropped a few sitters, although the wickets kept on coming at Regular Intervals. Ali, Nasir and Asmar bowled well for us and in the end we were looking at a little above 6 an over for the chase.
We started very well with Yours Truly and Yaawar. We had an opening Partnership of 74 runs in 10 or so overs. Then Yaawar was caught, trying to cut Nirav at Gully. I was out LBW to Bobby in the next over. after that our Middle Order had a collapse and from 74 for 0, we went to 107 for 6. With Nasir, Kamran, Sufian and Asmar back in the pavilion for small contributions, the Pressure was mounting. Mohtassim and Ali played really well for us and provided us a Partnership of 40 odd at the time, taking the score close to 150 with 5 overs remaninig. The Mohtassim lost his wicket and the as the run rate was mounting, Ali got out, trying to hit one out of the part at Long-On, and then Aamir lost his wicket in the same place. This brought our last wicket Faraz and Bilal together while we still needed 12 of 9 balls. Faraz hit Shekhs for 2 fours in that over and the equation for the last over was 4 of 6. Nirav bowled a wide and then Bilal tokk a single, after which, Faraz shot over Covers, saw the entire Roogers Park Team come in to celeberate. Vikram did an excellent job umpiring the game. It is always fun playing the Challengers as they define standards in bowling a great line and length and fielding like Professionals. Not a single dropped catch on thier part, and IIRC not even a fumble in the field. The most important thing with respect to this game is, it puts us above some of the competing teams for a playoff spot. Next week, it's United. With Faisal's form and thier mixture of youth and experience, they will be handful. Although, we have Momentum and a Renewed Confidence in our side, of taking on anyone. Hey, we just Beat the Number one team in Division 1. Good Luck to all. It's been a great season so far.

Yes Preetam it was awesome, i thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I felt like i was part of the team. Finals was awesome. The way in which Pak started and ended. Not to forget Mankesh Ankur Naren and Bhavesh's bowling, I thought they were upto the challenge. When India came to bat their attitude and approach was great. Pakistan Green never gave up despite Darshan and Bhavesh's fireworks they were consistent. I noticed that both the team were hitting good length deliveries over the ropes.

Got to watch the standards set by the Div 1 teams and their approach, I hope we all can carry that forward.

Thank you Tariq, Humayun, Sohail, Shekhs for giving us an opportunity to watch these top notch performances.

Due respect to both Challs and Rogers park why should league allow a 30 over game to be played in a 45 over league there are time issues or what not but should this be allowed? what about teams that are fighting for playoff spots playing a 45 over game on hot humid day and lost games due to weather conditions playing 45 over game there should serious consensus on this issue is there no value for the season of 45 over game rule what crap is this?

Shekhs said...

devils_advocate,
Here is the preface to the situation:

Challengers vs. Bears - got cancelled (Family member seriously ill) and will be rescheduled to probably the last week of regular games - 09/12, as the management strictly wants to start the day playoffs by the 22nd weekend.
So we are pretty much gonna play a back to back during the weekend of 09/12.

Challengers Vs. RPCC - cancelled (family member passed away) and was gonna be rescheduled to this weekend, which would have made us play back to back games this weekend, as well as next weekend.

we requested the management (as its nobody's fault) to slot us in a way that we dont have to play 2 back to back weekend games...
This was the only choice, to play during the week.
The only way to play a day game during the week was to play a reduced over, 30-30 game during the weekday....

Please suggest an alternative option for the above situation if you could ....besides making us play 2 back to back games..for no fault of ours..

Devils_advocate said...

challs should not be at the receiving end sheks by playing a 30over game you are not doing any favors to rest of the teams in the league either that are sticking to the rules and playing by the book short games definitely favor few teams who lack fitness its short sightedness of not having a weekend for catch up games scheduling committee should seriously look at it see if this can be fixed every year we have some emergency or the other but limiting the overs to finish a regular season game is no way to mask the main problem of not planning ahead there are few teams who got whole july month off any one from scheduling commitee listening? by doing this we are only undermining the Div 1 league stature 2 cents worth of barking

Jaggi said...

We are in a similar boat as Challengers. We have to play 3 games in two weekends. Our game against Muslim got moved due to a death in the family. Our game against Milwaukee was rescheduled to avoid Advancers from playing back to back(which is an issue into itself).

I think the league should revisit the rescheduling rule when a family member passes away. I think teams should have enough buffer to still go and play the game. I realize that this is controversial, but, with the limited number of weekends and grounds available, I do not think there is a choice.

Shekhs said...

The solution to all these situation goes back to the issue of starting the regular season early...in my opinion as early as April 2nd week.

Now I know the weather is going to be tough, but then again, we've had a bunch of washouts regardless..

If we start early, we'll have enough buffers for all these games...

Also, we should pick a regular weekend and keep it aside for the Mini World cup, that way, we'll have more participation and also we can use the Long weekend as a buffer for these rescheduled games..

My $0.02

Preetam N said...

I agree with Shekhs. Start the season early. Maybe not early April ( it will still be brrrr! ). But soon enough to finish a lot of these rescheduled games.

Shekhs said...

Preetam bud..whats cookin?

have you recovered yet..? :-)

we should plan another get together..to contemplate and vent about the playoff situation...

maybe the September 19th weekend..

Rup, where art thou?

Guest_rule said...

Why should a game be re-scheduled because a players family member is sick or otherwise? Only in the event of a players demise should a game be played on a later date as gesture for that team.

It is a teams responsibility to have enough players on their roster to meet any unprecedented events.

Does this mean now that if a player is seriously injured during or before games also that they can stop playing?

League should strongly resist altering the schedule except in a rare situations.

I am against conducting special events during weekdays as it is not convenient for away teams unless if league decides that it is only Chicago teams that matters.

no offence to any one.

straight_drive said...

shekhs when can we expect night play offs?

Shekhs said...

straight_drive,
Next week bud...I'm trying to work it out with the teams who are supposed to play the quarter finals..

Wildcats Vs. United
Midnight Pirates Vs. Challengers

Will let you know as soon as the scheduling is final..

Asmar said...

Shekhs,

Let me know if you need help umpiring these games.

Preetam N said...

nohitter,
No offense but we here at midwest play cricket for fun and not as professionals. Games are rescheduled ( they have always been ) if there is a demise in the immediate family as respect. I don't know if people are taking advantage that ( hopefully not). But i think that how it should be.
Mere do naya paise.
Shekhs, still recovering. We defenitely need to hang out some time soon. Rup seems to have completely disappeared. He said he would be at the games.

Shekhs said...

Thanks Asmar, I might take you up on that...
appreciate that..

Alpesh said...

Just read the Mini world Cup summary .. I would disagree with the author saying that the defeat margin was 'just' 25 runs ... it is a big enough margin in 20-20 ... comparable to 50-60 runs maargin in 40-45 overs game ...

Preetam Sir .. but in case of such situations (demise) ... treat the games as draw and split the points .. that way .. you won't have need one extra week ... I apologise if my words hurts anybody .. but my opinion ...

Also if games need to be rescheduled ... rained out games too need to be considered ... if games are rained out without a ball being bowled .. then those games have to be rescheduled ...

Shekhs said...

"Preetam Sir .. but in case of such situations (demise) ... treat the games as draw and split the points .. that way .. you won't have need one extra week ... I apologise if my words hurts anybody .. but my opinion ..."

Appu, that will be extremely unfair with teams who are fighting for the playoff positioning..

hypothetically, if challengers were struggling to make playoffs and we had to split points because unfortunately there was a demise in the opposing team's family, that will be totally unfair..

Guest_rule said...

Preetam, I understand that we are not playing professional cricket but it will be a nightmare to accomodate every change and also unfair to other teams whose games couldn't be played because of other reasons like rain out.

If the player himself was in danger or otherwise then being a member of the league we can reschedule that game because it directly effects the team.

We can express our support to their family in other ways but not by stop playing.

Thanks

Rup said...

Wow!!!!Wow Again!!!!!!

Every year around this time we get into the arguments about re-schedules...

Looks like some of you sit on your ears and zip your mouth in the AGM's cause if you didn't you would have heard this topic loud and clear..discussed in details and decisions made..
If a game is cancelled due to uncontrollable reasons then it's in the hands of management to decide after working with the two teams, when and how the game will be re-played.
For all the guys above who got a problem with this rule, please attend the next AGM..don't sit like a deaf or dumb and we would not have to debate this topic come playoff hunt.

Rup said...

Preetam,
Sorry i could not make it to the World Cup on Sunday.

I promised to be there but I woke up Sunday around 9 am with a Fever and my leg was swollen and stiff. I't doing much better these days.

To all my Fellow MCC cricketers I apologise. You all know that if I could support by playing on Half a leg I would have been there on Sunday walking around enjoying a cold one and having fun.

I will be seeing a lot of You for the P/Offs. ICC does not look like like p/off right now so I may umpire a game or two but will sure be around.

Shekhs said...

Rup,
Hope you've recovered ...
yeah, will see you around in the playoffs..
Hey, can you umpire one of the night games next week?

Guest_rule said...

Rup, first of all to make it clear i am not playing in Div I. Hence i don't have problem.

Next, whether someone attends AGM or not i can't comprehend why games have to be rescheduled because one of my family member is serious. One definetly loves the support of his team members and league but i don't which to stop game because i can't play.

Not attending AGM is not excuse because a rule if made should be fair to all sides.

I am just joining this discussion to express my neutral opinion on this one.

Thanks

===============================
This is what was talked about on in the AGM and the decision/rule was for reschedule.
If you don't care then leave the topic alone..don't dig and ants nest if you don't want to get bitten??.
If you realy care as seen in your comments whether it be Div 1 or 2 then your team needs to weigh in on this on the next AGM and vote this out.

Looks like Chargers and Advancers will be relegated to Div 2 next year ...

Shekhs said...

Chargers are definitely going, but Advancers still can make it, if Royals lose all 3 (they are playing Pak Gym, Muslim gym and STL...not an easy schedule) or Mil United lose both (playing muslim gym and peoria)..

and of course, Advancers have to win the next 2..

Rup said...

Tough situation to be in to stay in DIV 1,

Curious why these DIV 2 Teams are not surviving up in Div 1???.
There was a lot of talk about Spinners and how teams can't play them..Advancers was all about their 3 spinners who were the talk of the town when the won Div 2 last year??.

As I stated before..and i am stating again..this league/grounds is not set up for spinners to be too sucessful... Spinners will get their behind schallacked more often than success...

This is my take as i leave you all for the weekend of fun..
Have fun all and good luck on your games this weekend.

Atif,
Kya hua ? Why did you have to give a walkover ? I thought this was your rivalry game.
Does anybody have any update on the madison-evanston game ? Ankur..?

The Seeker said...

Evanston beat Madison by 5 runs in a nailbiter. Evanston batted first, putting up 262 in 40 overs (Donieke 100+, Malik 50+). In reply, Madison got to 257 and lost the last wicket needing 6 runs off the last 5 balls......Preetam ....must win game for you next week then, for an automatic promotion to Div 1 !

Preetam N said...

Seeker,
I know. It has been the story of our lives all this season. Every game has become a must win game for us.

RPCC VS. United Update

RPCC lost to United by 120 runs, chasing 274, RPCC bundled for 154.

That throws a Wrench in our Playoff Run.

We'll see how it goes with the other teams and take on the Flames in the last game of the regular season for us.

Congrats to all other winning teams too ... including mine :)

Thanks Alpesh. Not quite "almost". We have clinched a playoff spot. This year, 8 teams will not end up with 32 points. Therefore one or more teams with 30 or even 28 points can still make the playoffs in Div 1!

It was a a good game. I'm glad we won, and quite handily too in Milwaukee chasing! Team effort and a few standout performances.

ps. Haven't been on the blog at all for a couple of weeks. Good to be back, though it may be limited.

Congrat to all the winners.

Looks like the p/offs are a run for the roses with several teams in both division fighting for the final spots..

Well ICC slim hope may be out. We were hoping to win both and see what happens but we had to Cancell our game last week against Jolly Rovers due to deat in the Family..George's Brother passed away...
We will have to wait and see what the league decides to do.. A re-schedule will be nice but we will live with having to give a walk over...
Sorry to the teams that depended on ICC to win or loose...

Aditya said...

I noticed a comment from DDW about entering our scores. Actually, I noticed quite a few in one of the previous threads.

DDW, we have entered our scores in on time every single time except when the opposition team played with people not registered on the website. And by on time, I do mean the MWCC league rules, not when you would like to see the scores for your pleasure. It has nothing to do with winning or losing, its a question of having other stuff going on in life!

And as for our winning, losing, first half, second half, "getting licked by the Advancers", at the end of the day we mad our first play off appearance in Div 1. So we are quite kicked about that. The Advancers did beat us pretty bad. Hope we learned from that loss as a team to do better. I would argue that maybe we did, because we played poorly against one spinning team and did reasonably well against arguably a better spinning team!

You seem pretty focussed on us at some point. Why don;'t you send me your contact information so that I can put you on our mailing list. you'll get in-depth analysis, up to the minute stats, and real-time feedback on all our games, scores, and highlights!! :-)

A death in the family is the only valid reason for a re-schedule, so presumably that will happen if you guys can work it out.

And actually, if you win both Rup, youre almost certainly in the playoffs, no? The way it appears to me, you get to 24 points with 2 wins. Collinsville can only get to 23 points now (theyre currently in 13th with 1 game left). Currently in the 12th (and last) playoff spot is CCI with 20.. they can get to 24 as well, but only if they beat a highly motivated Eagles team next week (a win assures Eagles of a Div1 spot, so they will surely take a fullstrength team out to Urbana). So 2 wins for you guys, and youre almost surely in the playoffs (anything less than 2 wins, however, and youre not).
