दूसरा हफ्ता

Well, week 1 was a bit of a damp squid (all puns intended). Only a handful of games took place, but already there was one upset, two titans stayed the course, and some good cricket all around. Will the weather Gods relent and finally allow some cricket to be played, or will Rup add to his cooler collection?

ps. I tried enabling this "hindi" translation feature for the heading. Interesting.... For those of you that don't read hindi, it means week 2.

I wanted to comment on the email sent by management about pardoning the players from Pak Gymkhana.
PG is an extremely talented team and I have admired (and still do) a lot of their players. But, I have a big problem when people get into fights. I have a bigger problem when the management does a U-turn and decides to drop the remainder of the suspension. What has changed so drastically in the off-season for them to come to this conclusion?
Earlier, I was told by Kiran to not ask questions since I am not a captain or a manager (u would think that there would be some learnings from the lawsuit).

Kudos to management for enforcing the one game penalty against teams that have not paid. Will they penalize teams that did not attend the umpiring session? We will have to wait and see.

Back to cricket, we look forward to our game against Rogers Park. We are on the table with 4 points, but would have preferred to have played and won.

Kudos to the winners from last week.

U think u have it tough appu. I have the same. Umpiring in mossville on sat then playing at hanover park on sunday. Good luck to all 4 this weekend

Jaggi on the Blog.. Welcome...

Suspensions uplifted??..HMMMM..Why.
I guess MGT has valid reasons and as was told on the last AGM we elected them to make the decisions that is in the best interest of all in MWCC. I am sure this one is.

Yep i can't wait for cricket but if the rain gods keep hating ICC I think Icc will not start for a while.

Asmar said...

Jaggi,

I could have told you the suspensions would be lifted even before the season began :-)It should not be news to anyone...

Will we be seeing you on the field on Saturday? I really hope there is no rain and we can play a good game of cricket :-) See ya...

Rup said...

shekhs,
I need a rain dance from you. I got to play cricket somwhere.

I'll do one for ya...

you never know with our game either..so far only 20% chances..

Jaggi said...

Yes we all saw it coming. I was just irritated when I saw how the email was worded.

Yeah I will be there on Sat. Not sure if I will play, since I have to be in school at 6:30pm.

Rup said...

Yeh sheks,, looks like the rain may ease up as they now cleared up Friday and Saturday..
I now need a draining Co so the can dry the ground up..

Jaggi said...

We play Rogers park at Heritage on Sat which has got to be the worst ground in terms of drainage. A little bit of rain and it turns into a swimming pool that is filled with Goose Shit.

Shekhs:: are u guys up for practice on friday ?? let me know so that i can join.

Aditya said...

Hi,

In response to Jaggi's comment, I just wanted to say the following.

We (Phoenix) have sent an email to management with our feedback on their decision, which we are not happy with at all. This has nothing to do with the players in question who i hardly know personally, but more to do with the Management team.

Other teams should do the same. Compliment the management team when do something well, and they do, and criticize them when they do not. We have to hold them accountable for their actions as they should do to us.

If you don't, then you are inviting poor management upon yourself.

Aditya said...

ps. I don't expect too much to come out of my protest email, but I'm not going to sit back and accept it.

Aditya said...

Naren,

Looks like we may get some cricket in this weekend. I think the Cats vs Pak and Chall vs SL will be good matches. Good luck to all. There are a number of other good matches going on.

It is unfortunate that we dont' play each other this year. Would have been fun, but gotta blame Krishna / Nikhil for that!! Just kidding, that's just the way the schedule turned out. The schedule looks pretty good in my opinion. Unfortunately, we are not playing United either, but it gives us the chance to play Peoria (OUCH) and Advancers.

What's new with you? Are we gonna see you at practice this week? The weather seems to be easing out a bit.... bite my tongue!

naren said...

Hey Adi,
It would have been a nice game, but yea u guys play me well so i am not that unhappy :-), and about practice work has been very hectic oflate so i might not make it to practice for a couple of weeks...
Hope you guys will get some play time in the middle...

Shekhs said...

Naren, I'm gonna be busy this friday..
but how bout tomorrow..?
any takers..we can just meet at hanover park..say 5:30 pm?

I agree with you Adi...we have to protest when there is a legitimate cause..and if we dont..they are gonna take us for granted..
So, there is nothing wrong in critisizing...

Shaq?? I like that name shakeer..
I'd suggest you login to the app, like you enter the score and go to Div 2 team contacts, you should be able to pull some numbers outta there..

Aditya ..

I will differ with you on your 'good' schedule opinion .. For Div 2, most of the Chicago teams have been asked to travel 6-7 games .. which is too much taking into consideration high gas prices, time, family pressures, etc. Also some teams have been asked to play back to back matches on weekends ...

We have seen the Div 2 teams reducing from 27 to 20 this year .. and if this kind of schedule keeps on coming out .. i am afraid that in few years it will be like 3-4 Chicago teams and rest Our of chicago teams in Div 2 ...

Like there was a talk this season beginning .. that there should be a limit on number of rained out games ... say if 3-4 games get rained out for a team .. they shoud be reschedule the next rained out game .. or so .. Similarly they need to put limits on number of travelling games .. And I think 4 is a very reasonable number ...

everyone complaining here about the suspensions being uplifted for PG are the teams that play them earlier in the season. I understand your pain. But guys common we already have a small season to being with 14 games at least 2 get rained out....then i beleive they have 2 or 3 games left on their suspension. They would have probably came back in time to play muslim gymkhana. They would have been suspended again due to some fight they probably will have.....and there goes the whole season for pak....imagine that happening. Well for the good of cricket lets hope that doesn’t happen and they have learned there lesson. By the way where do muslim and pak play this year hopefully its Washtpark not hanover so more people can enjoy the brawl and we can have more witnesses. j/k all fun intended. Let’s hope we only have a good competitive game. I’m sure lots of peeps are waiting for that game.....

MWCC said...

Shekhs/Jaggi,
I have great respect for both of you and I strongly beleive you could change this league for the better.

You both talk about honesty/promises/rules and policies, what is your opinion on the game between Mulsim and RP last year? A team that won championship gets hit for 379 runs in 27 overs? I think if Jaysuria and McCulum were playing together they cant even reach that total in 27 overs. But somehow RP, which didnt even make to playoffs was able to do it against Championship winning team.

Do you think that game was fixed?

What do you think should be done for teams which fix games?

If you talk about changing the league, how could you have people on your side for election who can sell a game?

I think management did the best thing by having Muslim and RP play first game this year so there r no chances of fixing this year!

I am sure you would have gotten more votes (including mine), had you done a better job in chosing your running mates....

May be you will try to find some negatives in your team for a change instead of management.

About Pak G, as far as I know they were told to do league work over the playoffs and ask for sorry which they did and were forgiven (just like many other teams and people in past, e.g., Mil CC, people playing in ACC getting banned and forgiven next year). Looks like you or somebody on your side has something personal against Pak?

Shekhs said...

Talk about the blog heating up...
:-)

I really wanted to keep the elections and its results outta this blog, at least personally..but I guess I can't..

MWCC,
To answer your first question:
Was RPCC Vs. MG game fixed?
I really dont know, but I do agree with you on the fact that the scoreboard looks mind-blowing.

If we can prove that this was a fixed game, I'll be the first person to denounce the legitimacy of that game and people involved.
Question is can we prove that?

Now, you've actually opened up a whole new can of worms - by pointing a finger at our team (election) member you are accusing the whole team.
The reason behind us to stand up and fight for change was because we felt like the league was not managed appropriately and I dont even have to go into those details.
Are you really picking one negative point and saying you didnt vote for us because you thought one or a few of us were not honest?
That’s really ironical.. 

About negatives:
Nobody is perfect - we all have our quirkiness and issues.
You can dig up a whole buncha negativity for a person if you really want to.
But, I dont believe in that.

Yes, we (our election team) do have lot of negative points and we did and will revisit those.

I do believe that we need to be honest and straight up, but ROME was not built in a day.
It takes time, and we need our time to establish our honesty and credibility.

No, I personally dont have anything against anybody or any team, especially PAK Gym. I think I'm more friends with that team than many of the other teams in the league.

Rup said...

Everyone keep asking for this blog to heat up??
I gues as more cricket heat up this will also...
Then again.. they people who kept the blog buzzing were mostly the ones who wanted change..
They did not get it after all that the put on the table so the figure why scream when you got snakes listeneing???

I am also not an enemy of anyone or hate as some say for anyone or team..
Just because I speak out on a team for being wrong in what the do or did does not make me a hater/racist.
Jus clearing my point here.

MWCC said...

Are you really picking one negative point and saying you didnt vote for us because you thought one or a few of us were not honest?
That’s really ironical..
==================
The fact is that majority of the teams in this league agreed with me, hence they voted for current management...I dont know what their reasons were but results showed they thought what we had was better than your team could provide. I am just saying how I felt, how they felt, may be they will write here soon and say it?

People want change for the better, not the worse.

I know you dont want to talk about elections any more, but the fact is that people here keep Criticizing the mgmnt . Majority of people voted for this mgmnt, and now we to live with whatever the management decides.

My point is ..The one eyed man was
chosen over the completely blind...

About proof that game being fixed were the efforts to get access to scorecards and change them even after they were submitted.

Shekhs said...

MWCC,
I completely agree with you that the majority didnt clearly trust us, the results clearly tell us that.

I also agree with you that we need change for better....but you need to give us a chance. :-)
You'll not know unless you give us a chance..

I'm glad you called the management - one eyed man... :-)
at least you dont trust them completely.. :-)

But again, this is how we earn trust and respect, by communicating.
I'm totally fine with people telling me I'm or we're wrong.
But again, if we are blind compared to the one eyed man..I really dont have anything to say to that..

One thing I gotta say..you did step up and say whatever you felt like...and the point was made..

thanks

Tonald Drump said...

Election over and don't see any point to rub things in for the side that lost.

As far as complaining and stuff is concerned though we should try to keep things positive but blogs are free forum for expression.

To some being able to cricket in MWCC is good enough, some want things better and hence vent. "Nothing Changes If People Don't Voice The Opinion". With that said if you have good +ve suggestion - you should not be shy to share with MGMT.

Jaggi said...

MWCC, when I had decided to stand for elections, I picked my team based on what they could deliver. I knew shiraz when I worked with him during my GS days, but let me tell you that my respect for him has grown tremendously as I have gotten to know him better. He has been extremely upfront and honest about everything and as a matter of fact requested that he be dropped off the election team since people would blame him for the RP Vs MG game. I was adamant that he stay on, bcos I know that Shiraz can be a great asset to this league.

We can go based on what people said, but, I will stick to facts. It is true that MG showed up with 7 people. It is also true that only 1 player was allowed to stay outside the 30 yard circle since you had to have 4 people inside. It is true that the umpire was Anwer Khan, who was a league official and had no personal relationships with any of the teams. It is also true that Shiraz is a senior member of RP and not its captain.
Given these, 379 doesn't sound quite as bad, in my opinion.

The question you need to ask is that the mgmt gave a clean chit to this game. Why was this question not asked to current management?

I have said this before and I say it again, I was not able to convince the greater majority in this league. Unfortunately, I also know why some teams did not vote for me. They were honest enough to talk to me about it. Quite a few of the teams agreed that we had better quality, but they had deeper relationships with Tariq.

To call us blind is a very unfair statement. You probably are not aware of the effort that we had put in and what we had to offer.

If I were to run again, I would chose the exact same team. I had and still believe that the team I had chosen would have delivered on all their commitments.

Anyone cares to discuss the XI going out to the regionals? My guess is that it will be filled with usual suspects and not based on any selection process. The names I have heard through the rumor mill tells me that if you are not part of the A list, you are not going.

i dont see what fuss is about regarding suspensions. yes they made mistake, but we all play in friendly league. no money or anything. in fact we pay 2 play. not like we r paid 2 play. so punishment has 2 be viewed differently. finally we all want 2 play cricket. i am sure they will be more careful in the future. and it make season more competitive. mgmt did the only thing they could. everyone else should get over it if u have not as yet.

Sheiks first of all no reason to get so mad, if you are or were the real deal accept the loss and move on. Instead of using this blog to “moan and groan about ur loss” be positive if you are for the good of cricket be helpful without being in management.

Believe me when I say this none of your asses are with kissin, what happened at the elections was the teams chose the lesser of the 2 evils……
One name that is never mentioned that was a silent member of your team was farhat………..u guys lost a lot of votes cause of his influence over RP and shiraz. You all deep inside know him that’s why he was never at the forefront of ur election team, but many teams saw the influence and relationship he had with shiraz and RP, which bothered a lot of teams……I heard rumors he(farhat) will be head of the disciplinary committee, now pls tell me that would have been the joke of the century.
So you see sheikhs its not about kissin anyones ass its about what was good for the league and in many opinions as we saw tariq’s management was better for the league. Honestly jaggi just chose the wrong members that’s all……..

And as far as hiding behind a name……many of you I meet at games and we have good intentions and feelings for each other, most of us call ourselves friends by putting my name I cant speak the truth because that will bring sourness to friendships. Don’t take the comments here as attacks but as lessons for the future. You, RUP, JAGGI and few others were not the reason you lost the elections, it was few bad apples in the tree that ruined it for you guys…..hopefully you can move on from this and still try make cricket better for us and put your diff aside in the name of cricket and for its good

Peace

Big Hitter said...

and now 2 my favorite - mwcc

tariq is no angel and shiraz no devil. both somewhere in between/ i not going 2 try and figure out where. but if u hold shiraz guilty of cheating with no proof then might as well hold tariq guilty of stealing league funds. all know that something wrong with use of funds. may just b lack of info on how it spent. so without any proof it very bad 2 say either. i not making any claims against tariq.

next what wrong with pointing out negatives of mgmt? positives r higlighted also. if u not pay ur fees on time when everyone else can u should b held accountable. but if u start season late don't have act together and can't get schedule out then mgmt should be accountable for that right? not shiraz, coz he didn't make the schedule!

but u r entitled 2 attach ur lips 2 mgmt ass. and opposision entitled 2 smack them in face. as long as mgmt improves either way works 4 me. in fact i say go ahead kiss away maybe that work!

jaggi and team may lost elections but may still win war. change in mgmt not because it was tariq or sohail. bcoz was not good enuff. mgmt better now than last year. as long as improves that is good. be4 noone really stood against them. then adnan got 10 votes. now jaggi lost by only 4 votes. who knows what will happen next. but it clearly made huge difference so far.

not matter if u have blind man or 1eyed man as long as he lead u on right path. but better 2 b on right path with blind man and 2 tell when he not on right path than 2 b on wrong path with 1eyed man and still only kiss his ass.

have wonderful day ass kissing and please keep entertainment coming.

finally all want well managed league. not there right now. even u called mgmt an evil tho a lesser one. maybe 1 day we all call them good.

Anonymous said...

hey big hitter:
go read the comment again no where did i coverup mngmts problems or flaws....i know thay are not perfect....by me calling them lesser of two evils should tell you that i do also beleive they are not the best ....but compared to the 2 candidates they were a better choice the results suggests that as well. And again better than jaggi's team not just few of his elite personnel but the whole team(which unfortunently lost some credibility with the involvment of shiraz and farhat)
like the comment earlier we all can pretty much accept that YES funds have been misused or stolen ill be the first to accept that....i also beleive they deserve some compensation, the only beef i have is just say it we take and there will be no fuss...but u see by putting shiraz and farhat and there unethical ways even close to a managments post is worse.....

The debate is not about who is a saint and who the devil. I am sure Jaggi is no saint(I am a big fan of his, especially after the debate). The question is who was going to make this league better. Tariq has raped this league by allowing the lawsuit and using our funds for flying into chicago. dont forget that he uses our funds for car, food, hotel, phone etc. Basing your vote on your dislike for shiraz is foolish. Shows your ignorance and level of comprehension.

Good luck with your game against STL. I heard they have some new players, although I havent seen them play. May the better team win.

We are surely going to have a game this weekend. The sun is out in its full glory and the forecast is cricket conducive for next two days.

Looking forward to our first game.

Rup,

What happened was, The Hazelwood Parks and recreation goes by the schedule which is posted on MWCC website and the website had initially stated May 10th, So they went ahead and arranged a baseball Tournament for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As the original game was scheduled for May 10th, and lated changed to May 17th.

I feel like blaming someone, but dont even know whom to blame a,d all we can do is sit and feel bad for not being able to play cricket for 3 weeks in a row.

Hopefully we get to play our games as per schedule and looking forward to it.

Didnt mgmt promise at the elections that we would be participating? oh yeah, I forgot, promises are meant to be broken. This memorial day weekend will be remembered for all the cricketing careers that this mgmt has killed by not participating due to Tariq's personal animosity against Masood Chik.

According to Jaggi:
========================

Given these, 379 doesn't sound quite as bad, in my opinion
=====
If I were to run again, I would chose the exact same team. I had and still believe that the team I had chosen would have delivered on all their commitments.
=======================
That comment from Jaggi just doesnt sound like Jaggi but somebody who is "blind" i used that term blind to compare bad and worst..but now reading your comment, i am thinking may be you are blind and cannot see what brought you down!
At least Shekhs agreed that 379 runs in 27 overs sound mind blowing but you think that the score makes sense. Come on man.Ask any one in the league and they will tell you what they think what sense that score makes!!! MUlsim and RP did each other's umpiring and gave complete benifits to each other..for example...look at the game between RP and Wildcats which was umpired by your fav Farhat. How many points will you try to cover of your bad apples..Dont be so much blind and acknowledge.

Oh yes..Tariq and management have never provided clear details of how they spend money, but they have never fixed games or won games by unfair umpiring. I pay full dues and I hate to be paying money out of my pocket for Tariq and sohail's entertainment BUT I think the WORST is fixing a game..because then it Kills why we are here and on ground a full day. Last year they fixed it to kick out Pak..next year it could be agaisnt my team or may be urs?

I agree mgmnt should have done something about RP and Muslim game last year but they didnt. Why?? Oh wait..yours truly Shiraz was on mgmnt till the end of last year. So how could he take action against his own team? Plus if you think last mgmnt was so bad..why do you pick somebody who comes from last mgmnt?? Kind of like talking about Obama shouting change but choosing dck chny for VP.

And about money, what do you say to Muslim who did not pay last year dues either and then slammed a $300 bill for transferring mats from one location to other?
And about Shiraz..your mate..has been involved in fights...cursing on umpires..threatining umpires. How can you make somebody a VP on your side who has done so many goods and then hope to win. Before you cry why people from PK were forgiven, look at ICC and MCC's past history, people are always forgiven. Just look at Sh Akhtar playing in ICL after he was declared 5 years ban.
But it's sad Jaggi...you want to turn your head away and say your mates are great so keep it that way. Just ask a neutral person and they will tell you.

I was really happy to see you run, becz tariq and his mgmnt has fucked up league pretty bad. But when i saw your mates..i didnt want to see it fcked even more.

Wish you all the best in next elections. May be if you get rid of bad apples..I will be your number one supporter. Next time have yourself, Shekhs, Aditya..and some good apples.

Rup said...

MWCC,
Thanks for being candor in why you coose not to vote for us.. At least that give us somthing to look at if we decide to run for a change again.

what i don't like if the hypocracy in how you choose to grant clemency.

You are saying it's ok that Mgt has given clemency to suspended players. ok..fine..
Then you are saying that teams like you are not willing to grant clemency to Shiraz for what he did and paid the price for it.
If he was so bad then why did MGT bring him back to help run a part of the league..Which he has served well.
Remember he was the one who ventured to bring us Winter cricket...

Honest question???
Do you see forward progress in MWC..lets say the last 3 years and are you willing to help MWCC progressed to the next level..
If yes..how???

=================
I was one of the first people who congratulated Jaggi on here and wanted to help him win the election and made some suggestions but not when I found out his running mates. As far as this management is concerned, I do not see any progress. I have tried and offered my ideas and suggestions and help to this mgmnt in past but YOU KNOW how it works. IF IT DOESNT PLEASE TARIQ IT DOESNT HAPPEN in this league. So, am I willing to help? Yes but when i will know it will have a +ve outcome.
And i am trying to help you, Jaggi and Shekhs that you guys by making you realize you almost lost by 4 votes..and if you are more careful in chosing your mates, check their past history in MWCC for sure Tariq will have one less vote and you one more!
Isnt that what feedback Jaggi was looking for from people who didnt vote for him?

Who would you vote for Rup? A person who has bad mgmtn skills (tariq) or a person who fixes games via umpiring and scoring 379 runs in 27 overs? Oh yea, and the rumor was that once they realize they still cant make to playoffs after that paper score, RP and Mulsim tried to obtain scorecard from Marghob Bhai to change it even more. Probably 400 in 20 overs might have helped.

And you have him as your VP...

MWCC, you chose to make decisions based on rumors, but, I chose to make my own judgements of people based on facts and after spending some time with them.

Shiraz has made mistakes in the past and he will be the first one to acknowledge it. Shiraz has also done wonderful things for the league, which I am sure you will not want to talk about. What you are not aware(or chose not to find out) is how valuable he would have been to this league.

I am not going to comment on Farhat, since he was not part of my team.

My guess is that is that you chose not to see our agenda and what we had done with the very limited information we had. We made promises and we had plans to ensure that these promises be executed.

We can continue this discussion forever, or we can agree to disagree and move on to the next topic. In the interest of talking more about cricket, lets do the latter.

Ajoy, it is sad to see that you guys are not playing due to the change in schedule. There is no test site where the mgmt can upload the schedule and test it for errors. The practice is to upload it to the live site and once complaints are received, the schedule gets moved around. The schedule changes continue to happen till end of May/1st week of June. If I were you, I would get the confirmation for the next couple of games from the scheduling committee and communicate any changes to the park district.

Well, I can tell you that I personally know several Muslim Gymkhana players and they have confirmed that RP/MG match last year was fixed. In fact, one player that I spoke to was very upset that Farhat did not bother to show up for the match and sent him along with 6 other guys. Another player told me that it was Farhat's idea to fix the match to take Pak Gymkhana out of the playoffs. None of the players I spoke with blamed Shiraz for any wrongdoing. Most were upset with Farhat, some thought it was justified after their altercation with Pak gym. A true account of this match can be gotten from Zeeshan who is no longer a playing member of Rogers Park.

Challengers Vs. STL - WP # 2

STL wont the toss and elected to bat.
STL started of good with both their openers finding their rhythm.
A quick shuffle of bowling and a briliiant catch by dax(instant classic) found the break through for Challengers.

Amit and Sohail steadied the ship taking STL to 55/1 in 10.
In came Darshan to bowl, and got Sohail bowled with a beauty of a cutter.
With Darshan picking another quick one, STL lost the initiative.
Tehsin and Amit seemed like they were gonna put up a big partnership, and thats when Bhavesh got rid of amit.
Sanjay was brought back and he got Tehsin out on the first ball.
STL managed to play out the 40 overs with the help of a cameo by old gaurd Masroor.
STL made 143/9 in 40.

Bhavesh and Darshan opened for Challengers. Bhavesh was caught in the slips off of Masroor.
Darshan hit a coupla boundaries and seemed in great touch until he mistimed a pull and looped it up.
Challengers were in a bit of a soup at 39/3.
Sanjay(35*) and Afroze(62*) put up a brilliant partnership of 70 odd runs to pull this out for Challengers.

A good team effort by challengers earns them their first win!!
Good luck to STL for their season!

On a lighter note, Phoenix scraped through with a win against RPCC by 1 wicket. The last wicket partnership of 25 runs saw us home. We managed to restrict them to 148 all out, but then we struggled to get there. We had 3 decent partnerships, and lost wickets in bunches. But fortunately those 3 partnerships were enough to get the job done.

Prasanna, Mitul, and Raj bowled beautifully, ably supported by the rest. We have to work on our batting as we will not win many games with such performances, but we are thrilled to have 2 wins (1 earned) at this point and will take the 4 points happily. Hope everyone else got to play some cricket too.

Hello Bloggers,

Although I agree with a lot of things that have been mentioned above, but don't agree with a lot of things as well. Above All, I have all the Guts and B...s to write under my own name as I am not scared and afraid of anyone at all.
As far as I am concerned, Rogers Park did not commit any wrong doing last year and I do not agree with the above mentioned statement that our game was fixed. Also I personally have no problem with a reduced sentence for the Gymkhana guys and Faisal Nafasat as I have also reaped the benefit of a review during my 3 game suspension i had to serve 2 years ago that was cut short to 1 game. I think they have suffered enough by losing in the Quarter Finals last year, being a contender team for the Championship.
Although I agree with change and some of the things that have not changed, and also the fact that it is really high time for the Administration to step up and get things in order.
As far as the elections are concerned, I was very forthcoming about my involvement with Jaggi to Tariq Bhai, as well as to Jaggi about possible issues. He insisted and I felt honored and did really want to make a difference, therefore joined his team. It was all about the freshness of ideas and increased accountability.
Shekhs, you know me better than that. If I had any issues I would have let you known. In any case I wish everyone a Good Season, and don't intend to read or write on this blog moving forward. This was one of the reasons for the fight between Muslim Gymkhana and Pak Gymkhana. If we limit this to cricket, that is better, otherwise, this blog creates more issues than resolve.
Hope this makes things clear for everyone.

On a lighter note, Phoenix did grind out a win from us, and like Adi said for Phoenix, I would say for Rogers Park, we need to improve to become a contender in this league.

Advise: Forget the past, move on and enjoy 5 months of cricket. I plan to play cricket and have fun with friends on and off the field.

AAA defeated IIT. IIT batted first and scored 174 in 40 over’s and AAA chased it and won with three wickets in hand. AAA started out with 88 runs in eight over’s with no wickets. Adam and Abdul were hitting home runs and destroyed the opening attack of the IIT bowling. With sixes after sixes from Adam and Abdul, IIT was demoralized. The game slowed down a bit after the fall of Adam and Abdul, but AAA came out as a winner. AAA had great bowling but the drop of Lakshmi’s catch in the early stages allowed him to score a quick 56. Abdul had a team high with 63* with many sixes and Adam had 28* with a couple of sixes and fours. These duos is still sizzling from DIV. 1 and are waiting to overcome a horrific season from last year and are ready to regain their title. It was a great match and this might be a DIV 2 Finals Preview.

ICC vs Hammond.

ICC won the toss and batted forst.
Collins took a whacking to Hammond and saw an opening partnership of 99 with Ramesh in 12 overs.
Collins got out soon after for a dazzling 60+ ICC wobbled and was soon 131 for 5.. I got out at 151/6 ans soon 152/7 before Dan and george put up about 50 partnership.
Icc was all out in the 32 over for 219.
Hammon never looked at ease as the first 4 batman were all bowled.. 2 stumps broken and soon ther were like 30/5. It was a a struggle from there as wicket fell at frequent intervals. One of the middle order got a good 67 from so good hitting. Hammond all out for 130.
It was a good game.. only negative was the bone chilling weather????
Go ICCCCCCCCCC.

Just reading all of the crap that has been written on this blog. No wonder the league does not have this link on the website anymore. Good move by the Management. People are hiding behind aliases and making things personal. Going forward, I too will disassociate myself from this blog. Cricket has nothing to do with this blog anymore...

Shekhs, you know us better than that man. If we had a problem with you or your team, we would approach you directly. We can clarify this in person when we meet. I can guarantee that my brother would not say all those things mentioned above with a different ID. Like I said, people just use anonimity to cause personal conflicts such as these...

Anyway, Good luck to everyone for the remainder of the season...

Eagles beat Collinsville by 4 wickets

Batting first, Collinsville were reduced to 40/7 and at the break were 49/7. But their tail persisted and assisted Hardik superbly to score 131 in about 36 overs. The last wicket stand was worth ~ 50 runs !!!

Eagles chased the score in 32 overs with few shocks. We won by 5 wickets. Subbu was the leading scorer and wicket taker for Eagles.

Naren/Raheel/Romeen, do you want to talk about the game between Wildcats Vs Pak.

Also, any updates from the ROyals Vs Purdue game?

Aditya said...

Hey guys,

Wow, lots of stuff going on.

Satha, want to play in the regionals this weekend in Michigan?

Jaggi, heard Royals had a tough time (game-wise only) at Purdue and couldn't pull it off.

Shekhs, chill my friend. Have a cold brewsky and laugh at the blog and yourself. It's all we open bloggers can do. The way I see it, there is some pressure on you in your team. You're at a crucial point of the batting order where you have to be responsible and finish games - ala Bevan or Dhoni!! :)

Naren, what happened brotha? What could have been a close game between 2 top teams didn't turn out that way. Was Bakshi's form that good? Ominous for the rest of us.

Shiraz, Asmar, don't leave the blog. The rest of us are chilled. That was a close game and was going to be a heart-breaker for one side. I consider us lucky that it wasn't us. You guys are considered by quite a few to be playoff contenders and so I take heart that we pulled off 4 points against you. And I appreciate the spirit the game was played in. Much respect to you guys.

Rup, congrats on the first win. Keep it up. Want to see ICC at the finish line.

Chally, you're a funny man. Haven't seen you around for a bit, but hope to do so soon. Keep the pace up.

Madhu's in India these days, but should be back this week. His first game is against Phoenix (damn) and I am not looking forward to him getting back to his big hitting ways!!

Where the hell is Sadiq? I haven't seen any loooooooong posts except mwcc... hmmmmm!!! ;-)

Romo, where are you? We never ended up settling our bet last year. Congrats on the 50+ innings, but unfortunate it didn't translate into the 4 points.

naren said...

Adi,
We got blasted by PG on Saturday, and i guess i will leave the match summary to someone from PG as they deserve the win, and we had a rather shambolic performance on the field as a team in terms of our match.
On the other hand Romo would be out for 4-6 weeks as he broke his index finger...

Unknown said...

Jaggi,
I'd rather have Purdue write the summary :) (I'm not good writing summaries, specially after the loss :))

Anways, Purdue batted first and scored around 270 and Royals got all out around 100. We dropped few catches and our batting didn't click. Kudos to Purdue for hosting and they're good talented teams (as usual :)) Special mention of Sachin's batting (Sorry don't know his last name)...he's got a solid temprament. Sadiq did a great job as an umpire.

BTW...if any teams traveling to Purdue, there's a restaurant called "Blue Line"...and they have awesome Biryani. :) It's only 5-10 min. away from the ground.

Well played Purdue and good luck for the rest of the season.

If you are umpiring a game between two teams and two other people come ,who are not part of either of the teams, to support one of the teams and start shouting because you did not give a wide. They say that the umpire is sleeping. Would you guys abandon the game or would you guys just ignore them and continue the game? Im sure you guys will be able to give me some information on this situation.

Mastakilla ...

In my game as an umpire on Sunday .. I had not given a wide in the first innings as the batsman had shuffled too far across and the ball missed the leg stump by an inch or less ... So in the 2nd innings, when I giving wide to really wide deliveries .. the fielding team captain was screaming from deep midwicket that 'hamari bhi koi wide maaf karo, bc' ... but the bowler was quick enuf to tell him that it was really a wide ball .. And later on when the captain came to bowl .. i told him abt this ... and he apologised for it saying that the words came out at the spur of the moment ...

Regarding ur match .. the umpire made a harsh decision .. but again Sadiq Sir is a senior umpire and I would like to know his thoughts that led him to take such decision ...

Jaggi said...

I have sent an email to the management to get an update on the regionals. I have copied all the teams on that email. Will let you all know if I hear back.

Rup said...

I asked that question in the ump traing session. ball pitches in line with the stumps..batsman moved across to off misses the ball which bearly misses leg stump.
Answer. that is not a wide..
It happened in our mathch a hammond against me. Ball pitched around middle, nipped back, beat the batsman playing across, missed the stumps by millimters and called a wide. I asked why and was told it missed leg and that a wide. I tried to explain but the umpire said that's the rule..
Reading the rule is not all. interpreting and understanding it is is of greater value i think.

appu what you are talking about is a bit different but i appreciate you trying to clear things up for me. But if you were in Sadiqs shoes and some spectators were yelling at you that you are sleeping because you did not give a wide outside of off stump what would you have done?

He gave us a warning asking us to tell the spectators to be quiet.
What am i supposed to do? Since they are not on my team i cannot ask them to shut up. They have the freedom of speech. even then i did ask them not to say anything but they went ahead and said something and sadiq just abandoned the game even after i tried talking to him and letting him no that these guys were not part of my team but were spectators.

Ali from giants if you are reading this could you please verify that this is exactly what happened.

Adnan Baig
www.unitedcricket.org

Rup said...

I agree the schedule is a mess.

ICC is in some serious difficulty keeping the schedule given and we may end up having to give some walk overs unless adjustments are made to accomodate our family plans.

I was addressed at the AGM and we were told that they will try to accomodate special requests but it looks like that is not the case or just too many.

Per my conversations with MGT they are working on changes so we will have to wait and see if changes do occur?.

Alpesh said...

Also it seems some ppl are interpreting the rules differently .. I made a no-ball call, as there were only 3 players inside the 30 yard circle .. The captain n Vice-captain of the fielding team told me that the rule has been changed and it is Umpire's duty to warn the fielding team first ... They said that this was discussed in the umpiring session ... I doubt that ..

Rup .. what do you say ... ??

Ajoy Lal said...

Well I agree to some extent we should also look at a given situation subjectively but then there has to be some consistency and also a league cannot be successful if everything is subjective.

For example, why would a team request for change in game schedule if their players are not available on a given day. Well personally I feel it is the look out of the team concerned to make sure you have players available or else play with available 11.

I dont see any merit in changes based on player availability.

Rup said...

This league will find it very diffcult to survive if we do not come up with a way to accomodate team request..especially if the request is for special family occasions.

Over 75% of the players in this league will start running into family problems as our kids get older and need more of our time in the summer.

I beleive if the league set a rule that each team is allowed to request 2 or 3 week ends off(we get this anyways) and two or three Sat or Sun not both off by deadline date and it will be honored we will be good.
Given this, then teams/players can make arrangement for the summer ahead of time before having to wait till the schedule comes out.

Rup said...

Alpesh i am sorry you had to deal with such grave misinterpretation of the rule.

As an umpire you are there to make sure the rules are followed and not see that the captain knows them. It's nice when we inform but then as you can see the exceptions become the norm.
You were right in calling the no ball.
The umpire shall call the error and then explain the error .. The reverse of this is pure nonsense.

my take

Aditya said...

Alpesh,

I'm not sure what was discussed during the umpiring session.

But I will say that I read an interesting article on cricinfo where it said "The umpire is there to enforce the rules and not implement the rules." This means, if the captain doesn't not have the necessary number of people in the circle, the umpires job is not to make sure that the captain does the right thing, but to penalize the captain if he does not.

Rup said...

Isn't that's why he is called the captain..
He should be knowledgable of the game and rules so he can run the show??.
Then again some of the captains just take it because they are going to be called captain.

Dear Management,

I have not heard back from anybody regarding the regionals? I have been told that certain players were called to represent our league in the regionals. Is it too much to expect transparency in this process? There has been zero communication via email or the website.

A lot of cricketing aspirations have been suppressed due to this inaction on your part. Please do the right thing for this league and its members.

Again, I have copied all the teams on this email. It is very frustraing to see the management go back to its old ways.
