There you go Romeen, showing your Doctorgiri!! :-)
Hope he feels better for your next game. Remember Shekhs, it's a must win game - you must win for our sakes!!!

Talking about all this under rated over rated list. Is it better to make th eunder rated list or talked about list ? Swetal, Sanjeev I think scored 70 something. You won that tight game. Good games.

Adam Menk - Just a really good allrounder and few seem to talk about him in the same breath as others.
Satish (WC) - I just don't hear his name mentioned that often these days, but he performs with both bat and ball! Maybe he is "rated", but I feel he should be rated higher.
Darshan Patel - He's having a helluva season this year. Probably one of the top batsman in form right now, but I find he is rarely mentioned as well.
I was reading about the Indian Cricket League yesterday.
Apparently Kapil Dev is saying that they are trying to 'help' Indian Cricket, but creating a pool of players that the BCCI can later use for national selection.
HA! Kapil Paaji thinks we're all fools. The only goal of the league is to make $$$$ I mean imagine, this guy wants us to believe that gaining experience in a Twenty20 game is going to help youngsters get selected to the test squad. What a joke!
I don't have much sympathy for the BCCI, but Kapil bhai should shut up about this whole social work crap.
Given that CMC has been wondering about your love-fest with Romeen, and that Tango's mind is suited to pick up on such innocent comments, please do clear the air that:
a) you don't have hernia b) you haven't been coughing lately.
1. It takes away the monopoly of BCCI and due to the copmetition, I think the level will go up
And how is that good for Cricket? Is Subash Chandra going donate all the money he makes to charity? You don't know much about Subash Chandra. He's one ruthless businessman, who doesn't give a shit about his family or country, he only cares about money.
2. It does bring in the international experience, which is much needed for our youngsters.
Hmm, so playing a Twenty20 game besides old retired test cricketers is better than playing Ranji trophy matches against some of the best cricketers in the world?
3. 20-20 is pretty soon going to be the face of International cricket, like One day is now.
1. regardless of what Subhash Chandra does, it will definitely raise the standard on Indian cricket, as BCCI has to step up now.....which is what I meant.
2. Well, if ICL can recruit appropriately, I think the youngsters will benefit a lot from the experience.
See initially I thought BCCI has no right to threaten players who want to participate in the ICL. But come to think of it, its purely a business decision. "Kill the competition." And since ICL is just out to make money, I don't see anything wrong with what BCCI did.
2. Well, if ICL can recruit appropriately, I think the youngsters will benefit a lot from the experience.
ICL will only be able to recruit youngsters who don't even have a shot of making it to the state side, forget national side.
It will be like Lara and a couple of sidey cricketers from Kanga league, playing for Mumbai. Shit, I bet our MWCC All Star team will be able to kick their ass.
Right now BCCI can do anything they want...nobody to question them.. But, if we have another parallel organization that can challenge them and if they think they might lose to those guys....then there is a reality check...they are accountable all of a sudden..
They need to perform or they are gonna lose the players and fans..
I havent heard 'sidey' being used in a long long time. nostalgia....bombay....
Anyway, when the whole Packer thing happened, it revolutionized cricket. I'm not saying this is on the same lines, but who knows; something good can come out of this.
Kerry Packer got the best players in the world to play for his league. The only big name ICL have gotten so far is Lara. They MIGHT get Warne and McGrath. Thats it!
They aren't going to get any of the top Indian Stars. Hell, they won't even get any of the top Ranji trophy cricketers to play.
The BCCI should start its own One Day League or something, where individual teams are owned by wealthy businessman. Something similar to the NFL or NBA.
Tango, Its too early to make a judgement...Kerry Packer was too powerful and had the money obviously....maybe ICL will lure someone close to that power or even get Dalmiya in it.. :-)
Wouldn't that be the irony, if ICL can get Dalmiya....then sky is the limit for ICL..we all know that..
ICL, even with Dalmiya, can't do shit against the BCCI. Dalmiya is nothing without the BCCI. For the league to be successful in India, they'll need the top Indian Cricketers. And that just ain't happening.
Not to forget, the BCCI is run by a man who is probably one of the five most powerful politicians in the country. He doesn't know much about cricket, but he knows a lot about screwing other people over.
See initially I thought BCCI has no right to threaten players who want to participate in the ICL. ***************
BCCI has the right to threaten players as far as Playing for BCCI but they cannot threaten the players from playing for the country. BCCI is a Board not the Country. Remember how they were banned from using the Indian flag.
I am not fraternising BCCI but as long as BCCI has the support of the ICC no player who has any hopes of representing the "country" will line up with ICL. And I dont know how much it will help the average indian cricketer playing with over the top ex-cricketers who might or might not share their experiences in a limited amount of time. Our domestic cricket should be moulded in the lines of English cricket where overseas players do spend time with local cricketers thereby rubbing off some of their experience. my 0.02 paisa.
Only thing I have to say is current system (BCCI way) is not producing any "Great Cricketing Talents" ..Taking into consideration current youngies (as blog would like to call them:) in for National selection playing India A or Under 19..Lets do a reality check with Aussie setup and they are a milling machine producing one of finest cricketers after a another...Its almost like they doing gene pooling or something...:) But my personal opinion when things don't work with current system there has to be a change just for fresh ideas and infuse new blood see where it goes..take a new road...ICL may be the new road...It may not be..but we will know in few years..and all I say as cricketing FAN is just give it a chance..Don't cut the wings before it can take off...sending threating stuff..like going to "Ban' a player from national selection if they are part of ICL or something..Bottom line is every one is out there for money right now...Including BCCI..Whats wrong with just little rival league..give it chance to thrive and see where it goes....If its not producing results I am sure..it crumble and forgotten in few years..Fans aren't too forgiving you know...I am sure with out a good FAN base like us...I don't think any new 'path' has a chance...Lets all be positive give it chance to see where it takes us (Indian Cricket not BCCI brand of Cricket)..may be give it good..5 yr period (5 yr plans are Indian way) after proper set up of the league...see how it goes and make conclusions then...I will bet playing with Brian lara, shane warne, Mcgrath, Inzi man..it will be a life changing experience for youngies who are playing next to them whether be retired or current....Right now I feel there is too much 'red tape' and 'Dirty Politics' involved in selection of the team..I do think there quite few 'Tendulkars' lurking around there in India.... loosing interest cause..looking for a way to exhibit their talents..they don't have enough 'Political recommendation' or 'Friends of selection committee' sort of links...After all a rough diamond needs enough polishing for it to glitter...you know..it take work and little bit of time...
Guys, one thing is fro clear. We have problem between MWCC and ACC, it is hurting not them , but players, who wanted to play more, it will definetly hurt BCCI.
Shekh, Do Not Under Estimate Dalmiya, he is one of the MF powerfull businessman. He wants to hurt BCCI with with staying with them, if he doesn't get the position that he or his surrouding one than he will start hurting BCCI.
There was an article by Harsha Bhogle in Indian Express about a week back ... and in that he had made a valid point .. He said that BCCI was never keen on 20-20 ... It was kind of pressurized by the ICC as most other nations had already inculcated 20-20 in their domestic competitions. So BCCI hand over 20-20 responsibilty to ICL .. and they can focus just on Test n ODIs ...
BCCI was against Twenty20 Cricket, because they didn't want it becoming popular in India. Its not like they didn't feel like taking up the responsibility of promoting that version of the game.
Every one is just working to themselves, they are not doing favor to each other, obviously for them it is part of business. and every business there always will be dirty games. That was my only point.
By the way thanks Romeen for giving me right advise to take painkiller, man yesterday was brutal, barely can move my leg, this morning its all ok.
Thanks Tango, I woulld love to have friends like you. How did you know that I can be effective v/s Cats, I never had a good performance against Cats. Even I was thinking of a regular day. Thanks for puting trust on me strength.
We are all talking as if not having the BCCI will be good for Indian Cricket.
Without the BCCI, the Ranji trophy competition will be wiped out, since the board won't have money to pay their cricketers. Don't expect Subash Chandra to support Ranji trophy games. These games don't generate any revenue. And for a person like him will simply shut down the league to cut his losses.
Right now, all the profit the BCCI makes is invested in promoting domestic cricket. If the likes of Subash Chandra start controlling Indian cricket, they'll only build up their own personal bank accounts.
Sanju bayya, We already know ur strenghts...U remember that year u and Alkesh played for Rivericty CC and you took like whopping 15 wickets in 4 games played...Man you were bowling like a dream that year...I still remember watching you and Nalini from the slips...hunting in pair...Just fine left arm bowling I have seen..I hope you doing a good job not to let Mr Age catch up with you..:) Wish you the best..
Only good thing BCCI is doing is they are promoting cricket to all levels. They even paying to college level development, for grounds too. Not even that even if you had played one Ranji game, you are entitled to get promotion, not more but you still gets something.
If Cricket were controlled by businessman like Kerry Packer and Subash Chandra, test cricket would have been wiped out by now. We'd only be playing Twenty20
Thanks Madhu, no matter what ever you do Mr. Age will take its toll, I'm not playing cause I started working on weekends. Believe me If I have choice, you know what should I pick, just not right time.
Tango Bro, Romeen hit so hard, I didn't have any reaction and I put myleft leg since that one was so close, Tell Romeen not to hit so hard next time. I'll be ready for tonight's game.
Thanks for Very good HINT, next time I'll be more carefull, Second I told Madhu also, age is taking its toll, and I'm feeling that, since I haven't played since so long.
Shekhs & Tango, both try to come early, we will have some good time together. I know I'm dreamingabout Tango, but Shekhs you can come early, like before game starts.
Looks like we might have some support tonite. With all the rain going around, lets hope we can get a game in. Otherwise, it'll be a big party!! Its a win-win situation!
We need someone like you at all the games. There are aches and pains for some of us, regardless if we manage to stop a full blooded drive or not!
Good luck against United. I was going to put up some predictions for this game, but probably best not to predict for games that either you or I are playing in. I'll put up some new predictions soon.
2nd set of Predictions Game: Muslim Gym vs Rivercity 8/9/07 (if the game occurs given rain, etc)
1. Rivercity will not score more than 120.
2. There will be at least 7 sixes scored by MG
3. One of the MG bowlers will take three wickets or more
4. Noone from MG will be "bowled" (played on, etc).
Ok, making predictions is tough. Trying to make them somewhat sporting is even tougher. Let me know if you don't think some of these are sporting and I'll change them.
One more note to MG, Rivercity, etc. No offense is intended to anyone, and the predictions are not aimed at you guys in particular. This is just a friendly wager (well, there are drinks involved) between Romeen and I.
I think it's 2-0 in my favour. NW did not give me the slip, and 400 runs is out. I think number of 6s and the final outcome are yet to be decided. Though # of 6s is in my favour at this point.
Ok. Game on for predictions for tomorrow, unless it rains (likely). They we'll have to postpone the same predictions to whenever the game is played.
Shekhs said: Did you guys notice that Samarth only gave 9 runs in his 4 overs the last game...nice job Samarth.. --------------------- Agree but then keep in mind, he was bowling to a batting line up that has....well....been sputtering all season long :).
Man, all day long that day, I was looking forward to playing Mehul, Ruchir and Samarth.
Mehul - that jagbag - was a no show and Ruchir made it a little easier with his wayward line (but thank god for 'em pads !).....had I hung around another over, I would have gotten my wish to play 2 outta 3 of their bowlers that I was keen on playing....
Samarth bowled awesome that game.
BTW, what's up with Mehul ? Haven't seen him around on the blogs in a while....Do we need to put out an APB on his ass? He in India ?
You didn't give me the slip. Romo thought you would during his predictions for the Chall vs PG game, but it was not to be. :-)
How you been? Haven't heard from you in a bit? Now, you know you've gone and messed with Romo's head and he is going to be analyzing every little conversation with everyone this weekend!! :-)
I don't think I met him this weekend at all, so hopefully I'm out of the NW hunt!
I will say I am disappointed with Arsenal. With your 11 All-Stars, or at least a few, and from what I remember of you guys last year, I thought you would be ruling the roost, or at least close. But then again same thing for ICC, who I really thought would have another impressive year.
guys, what players would you guys consider the biggest underachievers. we would expect them to do really great things but tendsto underachieve. my top underachiever is nasir from flames!! you think he would dominate the league but fizzles out??? both faisal(s) mgc and ucc would be up there as well. this should be interesting.
I agree man....To use CMC's words, most of the Arsenal bats (barring Surya and at times the lower order bats and I hate using that word lower order.....) have underachieved this season.
A few more runs in a few matches and we would have been in a much better shape.
aditya said: Shekhs, like Jaggi, you look too young to be a Dad. I keep having to remind myself that Jaggi isn't too young for Daddyhood! ---------------------------------- Aditya, why are u lying?
WC won the toss, elected to bat (but not really well) and were all out for 102. Some good tight bowling, nice catching and some poor shot selection led to 3rd 100 total for the WC in 3 weeks. Sumeet was the lone warrior. United came to bat and wasted no time (13 overs) to get the total, with Faisal hitting some ginormous shots. There was a lot of fetching to do from across the street. Congratulations to United!
Its time for some introspection for us,and maybe better application in the future.
cmc, you were right, we've sucked at the shorter version (atleast thus far). Adi and Shekhs, you guys made the right prediction too.
Tough loss. I wanted to stop by for a bit yesterday, but got stuck running some much needed errands.
United are looking quite strong for the Night tourney, so it's tough to bet against them. I didn't expect the Cats to struggle so much for the night tourney as is highlighted by my original ALNT article on the blogs.
American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Hoffman Estates
Fellas, I would like to suggest that each of you make a sincere effort to participate and donate (whatever you can) to make this event a success. I’m not representing the management or my team, but just thought that we should definitely help out as much as we can, as there is no other place than our blog to spread the word.
lolz !! it was indeed tough for u to get up so early, i was fortunate enough not to get up so early.. What up with this Friday buddy, should we go to Chasers rather than for a bowling alley, just a thought...
Sorry Ro, but you guys are better suited for the longer version of the game. 20/20 is more athletic then regular games, youth is a huge key. what do you bloggers think. i know cricket is not exactly a pure athletes game but 20/20 is much more suited for and geared for youth. fielding and running between the wickets are paramount. hopefully you guys(WC) can turn it around don't let the night game spill over into the regular season.
i know cricket is not exactly a pure athletes game but 20/20 is much more suited for and geared for youth. fielding and running between the wickets are paramount.
The Wildcats field and run really well between the wickets. 20/20 is more for teams that have a bunch of big hitters like Challengers, Pak Gymkhana and Muslim Gymkhana.
Got in to work at 9:30 ! Man, am still reeling from last nite and I just had 2 drinks ! Shekhs/Tushar: I blame this on you; I was going to stop after the first drink but u jagbags made me get another !getting old....can't drink no more....gotta stop..not to self.....stop...NOT !
hi Ram, How hung up are you on the bowling thing man ? Can we instead just hang out at Chasers or some other bar for happy hour and drink/chat; maybe hold hands and sing Kumbaya?!.
Besides I only bat these days (suck at that too but thats a diff story..)....I stopped bowling a while back; had issues with Wides...I think I still hold a record for bowling 15+ wides in one over.
Shekhs said: Swetal wanted to discuss this (Nari, please dont crucify me :-))..
----------
Oh come on, man. I didn't tell you to discuss this.; you guys were insinuating that we might need a change at the help (and you might ne right..)...You guys ganged up on me last night...we know we aint performing to the level we can. Aint nothing to discuss...can't beat a dead horse when its allready dead man.
Romo, congrats on your first wicket this season this past Sunday. I will say, I was surprised to see that you bowled, and that too for 5 overs! Pretty decent numbers too!!!
Tushar, Shekhs, it's always a good time with them. I haven't been able to make it out much lately, but maybe Tuesday after our game!
Ok, I have a question that requires some opinions. As we head into the last few weeks of the regular season, only the top 5 are certain of making the playoffs. The remaining 3 spots are stil up for grabs.
Chances are that one of these top 5 teams will win the Div 1 Championship. Any thoughts on who this might be now? Any changes to the brave predictions that Tango, NW, and others made?
People weren't counting Purdue, but they're red hot right now! I would rank them as No. 1 in terms of form and momentum given the Cats recent loss. Maybe a Cats vs Purdue final?
Adi, thanks man! Finally somebody is noticing my bowling talent! :)
Adi, I dont think its safe to say that the champion will emerge from the current top 5 when you have teams like Pak Gym in the bottom 3.Once they make it to the playoffs, a new season begins. Lets not forget they are last year's champions.
I agree, it's not "safe" to say because of Pak Gym. HOwever, I would contend that the chances favour the winner coming from the top 5 coz the top 5 are playing consistently well.
It may be splitting hairs, but I have to disagree. Milw CC lost a few weeks ago to Milw Utd. Purdue lost 2nd game of the season to Challengers. Since then, Purdue has beaten Pak Gym and Muslim Gym with solid performances. Based on their current form and streak, I'd put them No 1.
Its hard to pick one between the two. I had MCC ranked no.2 and Purdue no.3 a few weeks back. Since then, neither have a lost a game. So I'll still keep MCC ahead of Purdue.

They got 373. What is the highest total ever in the midwest league ? Does anybody know ?
And who would you nominate Tango? I did say under-rated, not anonymous!
My boy Sanjay Patel. No one talks about him, except me.
Others are Sameer from Da Bears, Rafi from the Chargers
Shekhs,
Which team did you play for in div 2 ?
I heard that Devin Patel had made 250+ runs and the team got close to 400.
Last year - No Stars.
Before that - Springfield
We saw parts of that game (Naser's game) yesterday...they played in WP#4 and we were on 3.
We were all watching that game rather than our own.. :-)
I think the cats watched too much of that while they were batting.. :-)
Has anyone scored a back to back century in our league besides Adam from AAA?
Thats not true tango, people do talk about sanjay, they definitely know him as a good bowler.
Sameer has had his fair share of fame (like when he scored a century). Rafi used to be talked about a few years ago, its just these days that he hasnt received much attention.
But again, all this stuff is so subjective and relative, we can definitely have a difference of opinion.
You are cheating on me :)
Sheks, in fact I wish we had watched that game a lil more, for inspiration if not anything else.
Sanjay was always considered a star, I dont think he was/ is ever underrated..
Sanjay me boy is a super star!!!
OK Tango, you and me, signature lounge, wed evening. No wait, thats when Sheky's meeting me. Dang! I cant handle this any more!
See, I don't have this history behind the league like you guys know. And Tango knows.....
But I did look up some of the best batsman / bowlers of previuos years passed, and noticed Romeen in their a couple of time!
Last two years, on the blog, hardly anyone has talked about Sanjay, Sameer or Rafi.
How's Sanjay's injury?
I agree, since the blog started, nobody has.
Was the injury serious? What happened?
No kiddin, watching Naser scorching the other team would have inspired me for 2 seasons...
Shekhs,
Sanjay is a SUPERSTAR no doubt. But he doesn't get the Superstar recognition like Nilesh.
But then, the blog tends to be restrictive in a certain sense. A lot of people read it but only a few tend to write. We need to do something about involving more people.
Sanjay tried to stop a full blooded drive from Romeen using his shin....forgot to wear shin gaurds....
boy, he was lucky he didnt break anything..
it was hurting yesterday...I haven't talked to him today..
Adi, I dont think it was serious, he did have a hematoma developing though. Its going to change colors all week, it'll only remind him of his awesome spell though, lucky dog :)
Sanjay tried to stop a full blooded drive from Romeen using his shin....forgot to wear shin gaurds....
hmm, what is he like stupid or something? Who the chuck tries to stop the ball with your shin?
If I remember correctly, Varad and Sanjeev from Arsenal are pretty good bats, but rarely spoken of. There was another guy, Narasimha maybe, who played cricket in India who is a very clean hitter of the ball and a good bat. A case for the under-rated perhaps? Would you disagree Tango?
Just love Tango, he just called his fav boy stupid! :)
There you go Romeen, showing your Doctorgiri!! :-)
Hope he feels better for your next game. Remember Shekhs, it's a must win game - you must win for our sakes!!!
One thing about Sanjay that I've seen, whatever people's opinion of him may be, he has a hellofa competitive spirit and as a fellow player you have to appreciate that.
See Romeen, I'm sure you've realized by now, but whenever I call someone stupid, or old or overrated, I don't mean it in a malicious way. I just try not to be overly diplomatic, since I am using nickname.
Tango, you crazy man...
:-)
Adi,
We try to win every game....but again, it doesn't always go our way. :-)
We'll try, its a tough one, but we'll try.
Varad used to play for Phoenix, that automatically eliminates him from the 'most underrated player award' consideration.
Sanjeev K from Arsenal is actually a very good bowler. One of the best spinners I have faced. I still feel he should have walked after falling on the wickets after he hit a 6 in a game against us looooong time back. Remember that game Swetal.
lol, I still remember that game Preetam.
Agreed tango, using a nick had its advantages.
*had= has
And no, that was not a freudian slip, if you guys are getting any ideas :)
oh man, too many threads to follow and I completely missed this one :)
I would have to say two of my guys - Sanjeev Khandelwal and Narasimha - are two all-roounders that I would hope make the DIV-II all star team (if at all we end up having a Div-I allstars against DIV-II allstars game). Sanjeev has not played a whole lot this season but whatever games he played, he bowled out of his mind. The thing about these 2 is if they cross 25, you can put it down, they gonna hit 80+ !!
Preetam: If you referring to the Night game we played a few years back, that was one heck of a game. It was unfortunate that we eneded having a few heated exchanges but that was one heck of a game. And he fell on the stumps? hmm...trying to remember if it was that game......
I dont see how someone can fall onto the stumps and you cant remember the game ! It happens like once in a decade, unless you are mohinder amarnath.
Surya from Arsenal has been scoring runs consistently ... and hardly have seen anybody mentioning abt him on the blog ...
Also Tafazzul from my team NoStars is a good allrounder ... Leading batting charts for the team and picking up wickets at economy of 4 RPO ...
Agree about sanjeev and Nari, but are they really underrated? Everybody knows and talks about them.
You were keeping that night game Samir. You should remember.
Talking about all this under rated over rated list. Is it better to make th eunder rated list or talked about list ?
Swetal, Sanjeev I think scored 70 something. You won that tight game. Good games.
Yes it was a great game. Sanjeev played very well that day and took the game away. I think he was in 50's when that incident had occured.
Romeen said:

--------
Well, I have selective memory, ok? :)
Speaking of Allstar teams....My Div II team would be:
1. Collins/Shashi/Vasu - WK Bat
2. Sanjeev K- Arsenal Allrounder-offspin
3. Rup - ICC Allrounder
4. Jack - ICC Allrounder
5. Narasimha - Arsenal Allrounder-leg spin
6. Pawan - Advancers Allrounder -off spin
7. Sakir - Advancers Allrounder
8. Subbu - Eagles Allrounder
9. Hari Kiran - QC Kings Bat
10.Lakshmi - IIT Allrounder
11.Surya - Arsenal Allrounder
Allright fire away :)....and yes, I got 3 of my guys in there, so for sure, go ahead , kick my tail, make my day :)....I think that would be one heck of a team....am sure missing some other studs but its a start.
oops.....Please Add Madhu and Bolla to that list...sorry, Madhu.
You two would be a must have ! My apologies.
I dont see The bastman from Advancers... Paul.
I will also add Amit Srivastava -left arm quick.
Swetal you should have added 8 more from Arsenal. :)
If I add 8 more from Arsenal, for sure this team will loose ! :)
Yes, Paul should be in too but I think barring the WK, the other X would have to be all-rounders; so does he and/or Hari make the XI...I don't know.
Amit? which team?
Sadiq: Come on man...do your IMHO ....refine that list.
So long Guys need to trek back all the way from half day road.
See y'all tomorrow.
Amit - Eagles.
Yeah .. make Arsenal 11 ALL-STAR DIV 2 team for one year and then Eagles 11 ALL STAR DIV 2 team for another year ... :)
Preetam,
Half day rd? :) in Bannockburn/Deerfield? :)
Couple more names to add to that list:
Adam Menk - Just a really good allrounder and few seem to talk about him in the same breath as others.
Satish (WC) - I just don't hear his name mentioned that often these days, but he performs with both bat and ball! Maybe he is "rated", but I feel he should be rated higher.
Darshan Patel - He's having a helluva season this year. Probably one of the top batsman in form right now, but I find he is rarely mentioned as well.
Alpesh,
Ha! Ha! Ha!....c'mon i just have 2 names from the Eagles. Is that too much to ask.
Samir, yes Bannockburn. Long darn commute.
Sameer - Any bowl/pool joints in Schaumburg area that is good? Need to decide for this friday's bash. I hope lot of the bloggers can make it.
Ram,
the only place i've been to in Schamburg is Woodfield Lanes and it's pretty descent.
Preetam,
I also work in Bannockburn.
Ram,
Will get you a few Bowling alley names by the evening
yes will do so by EOD, Swetal.
Cool Swet...that would be nice...
Everybody, try to make it to this event....this friday...
We practice at HP on fridays, I will be coming in around 8PM, guys.
I was reading about the Indian Cricket League yesterday.
Apparently Kapil Dev is saying that they are trying to 'help' Indian Cricket, but creating a pool of players that the BCCI can later use for national selection.
HA! Kapil Paaji thinks we're all fools. The only goal of the league is to make $$$$
I mean imagine, this guy wants us to believe that gaining experience in a Twenty20 game is going to help youngsters get selected to the test squad. What a joke!
I don't have much sympathy for the BCCI, but Kapil bhai should shut up about this whole social work crap.
Tango, its a good thing you are operating under a nick, Paaji just seems to me like somebody with a temper!
Shekhs, when did you guys pick this friday?
Adi, agree about the names you mentioned. Man, there are so many good players in our league.
Tango,
I disagree with you on ICL...
ICL definitely will benefit Indian Cricket..
1. It takes away the monopoly of BCCI and due to the copmetition, I think the level will go up.
2. It does bring in the international experience, which is much needed for our youngsters.
3. 20-20 is pretty soon going to be the face of International cricket, like One day is now.
I agree that it is irrelevant to compare the league with test selection, but again, there could be alternative solutions using ICL.
I agree that Kapil might be interested in the money, but again I dont care if he makes money but does something positive...
My $0.02
Romeen,
We picked this friday about 3-4 weeks ago...
Why? you on call?
Shekhs,
Maybe Romeen has a date with a couple of old men with hernia. He might prefer the cough test to the bowling lanes!!! :-)
Crap, sorry Shekhs.
Given that CMC has been wondering about your love-fest with Romeen, and that Tango's mind is suited to pick up on such innocent comments, please do clear the air that:
a) you don't have hernia
b) you haven't been coughing lately.
Doubt it!
Adi,
I think the whole lovefest thing has gone a little too far..
Lets cut it out now...aiite..
I know you meant no harm...and I'm cool with that...but it will get really nasty it we keep poking on it..lets not throw that crap on the fan...
Just to clear it out with you..no hard feelings man...like I said, I know you meant no harm...I know that you were just trying to have fun..
Tango,
1. regardless of what Subhash Chandra does, it will definitely raise the standard on Indian cricket, as BCCI has to step up now.....which is what I meant.
2. Well, if ICL can recruit appropriately, I think the youngsters will benefit a lot from the experience.
I wish they had started like a 50 over league. That might have helped. Twenty20 helping Indian Cricket is nonsense.
Sheky,
See initially I thought BCCI has no right to threaten players who want to participate in the ICL.
But come to think of it, its purely a business decision. "Kill the competition."
And since ICL is just out to make money, I don't see anything wrong with what BCCI did.
So whats the latest? Have any players signed up?
Tango,
I look at it this way...
Shekhs,
If they succeed in creating a parallel cricket league, then there will be competition. I just don't see it happening.
BCCI has threatened to ban any players who participate in the ICL.
RoRo,
Kerry Packer got the best players in the world to play for his league.
The only big name ICL have gotten so far is Lara. They MIGHT get Warne and McGrath. Thats it!
They aren't going to get any of the top Indian Stars. Hell, they won't even get any of the top Ranji trophy cricketers to play.
good point.
Its not easy to buy out cricketers these days, they make so much more from other sources.
I guess they could go after relatively young stars that just retired (like the names mentioned above), it would still be a great outfit.
The BCCI should start its own One Day League or something, where individual teams are owned by wealthy businessman. Something similar to the NFL or NBA.
Tango,
Its too early to make a judgement...Kerry Packer was too powerful and had the money obviously....maybe ICL will lure someone close to that power or even get Dalmiya in it..
Tango said...
Sheky,
See initially I thought BCCI has no right to threaten players who want to participate in the ICL.
Tango and Sheks...
What do you guys say?
Cheers
Madhu Reddy
Guys, one thing is fro clear.
We have problem between MWCC and ACC, it is hurting not them , but players, who wanted to play more, it will definetly hurt BCCI.
Madhu,
Did you just say the same things I said...but in a nicer way... :-)
I agree man...absolutely...
Shekh, Do Not Under Estimate Dalmiya, he is one of the MF powerfull businessman. He wants to hurt BCCI with with staying with them, if he doesn't get the position that he or his surrouding one than he will start hurting BCCI.
Tango, Shekhs -
There was an article by Harsha Bhogle in Indian Express about a week back ... and in that he had made a valid point .. He said that BCCI was never keen on 20-20 ... It was kind of pressurized by the ICC as most other nations had already inculcated 20-20 in their domestic competitions. So BCCI hand over 20-20 responsibilty to ICL .. and they can focus just on Test n ODIs ...
Let me find a link to that article ...
Yes Sheks...
Just lemon-lime twist to it..thats all..hehe..:)
Cheers
Madhu
Sanjay,
I'm not questioning what Dalmiya can do....I'm sure he is what he is..
I was just making a hypothetical example....Dalmiya seemed like one...maybe not.. :-)
Appu,
BCCI was against Twenty20 Cricket, because they didn't want it becoming popular in India. Its not like they didn't feel like taking up the responsibility of promoting that version of the game.
Read ..
So BCCI should hand over 20-20 responsibilty to ICL .. and they can focus just on Test n ODIs ...
No problem Sanjay.
But the next time you annihilate my team like that, I'll really break your legs :)
Thanks Tango,
I woulld love to have friends like you. How did you know that I can be effective v/s Cats, I never had a good performance against Cats. Even I was thinking of a regular day. Thanks for puting trust on me strength.
Romeen, believe me my friend, I didn't go for trial, just got the rythm after I got first wicket, and everything fall in my way.
Sanju bayya,
We already know ur strenghts...U remember that year u and Alkesh played for Rivericty CC and you took like whopping 15 wickets in 4 games played...Man you were bowling like a dream that year...I still remember watching you and Nalini from the slips...hunting in pair...Just fine left arm bowling I have seen..I hope you doing a good job not to let Mr Age catch up with you..:) Wish you the best..
Cheers
Madhu Reddy
PCC
Only good thing BCCI is doing is they are promoting cricket to all levels. They even paying to college level development, for grounds too. Not even that even if you had played one Ranji game, you are entitled to get promotion, not more but you still gets something.
Sanjay,
How's your leg feeling? Next time, try to stop the ball with your hands ;)
If Cricket were controlled by businessman like Kerry Packer and Subash Chandra, test cricket would have been wiped out by now. We'd only be playing Twenty20
Sanjay maan....yeah..howz the leg?
has the swelling gone down?
Thanks Madhu, no matter what ever you do Mr. Age will take its toll, I'm not playing cause I started working on weekends. Believe me If I have choice, you know what should I pick, just not right time.
Tango Bro, Romeen hit so hard, I didn't have any reaction and I put myleft leg since that one was so close, Tell Romeen not to hit so hard next time. I'll be ready for tonight's game.
Dear Shekhs, All gone, now I'm waithing for night game. r u coming at groung tonight? I know Tango is.
Sanjay,
When fielding inside the 30 yard circle, stay low and be on your toes. Don't just stand around as if your in a 'mela'.
good to know Sanjay..
you betcha!! I'll be there..
Thanks for Very good HINT, next time I'll be more carefull, Second I told Madhu also, age is taking its toll, and I'm feeling that, since I haven't played since so long.
Cats vs United: Big game! Is Mehul going to be playing tonight?
Shekhs & Tango, both try to come early, we will have some good time together. I know I'm dreamingabout Tango, but Shekhs you can come early, like before game starts.
Mehul, no problem for Cats, I'd given them enough practice, they all prepare for it, GO CATS
Looks like we might have some support tonite. With all the rain going around, lets hope we can get a game in.
Otherwise, it'll be a big party!!
Its a win-win situation!
Romeen Do Not Hopeful, Go for it mon, we will there to support.
Romeen,
We need someone like you at all the games. There are aches and pains for some of us, regardless if we manage to stop a full blooded drive or not!
Good luck against United. I was going to put up some predictions for this game, but probably best not to predict for games that either you or I are playing in. I'll put up some new predictions soon.
I think I'm gonna support United.....Cats got too much of a support. :-)
Romeen, looks like you made enimy:) within ourselves.
Romeen vs Aditya
2nd set of Predictions
Game: Muslim Gym vs Rivercity 8/9/07 (if the game occurs given rain, etc)
Shekhs,
I agree with you and think that United will pull this one off. I really like both teams, on and off the field, but I feel this one is going to United.
One more note to MG, Rivercity, etc. No offense is intended to anyone, and the predictions are not aimed at you guys in particular. This is just a friendly wager (well, there are drinks involved) between Romeen and I.
wassup y'all. long time no see. i'm back with new ideas. catch y'all when the blog is hot.
Adi,
United is loaded, from a 20-20 perspective...they are a good team...
no offense Romeen, I have to go with United on this....
They got some young guns mixed with some experienced ones..
Did you guys notice that Samarth only gave 9 runs in his 4 overs the last game...nice job Samarth..
No offence taken guys, I agree. This United team is a very good outfit. Its a Herculean task for us.
Adi, good predictions, I'm gonna say NONE of them will come true!
Whats our score thus far?
n_w, you probably should change yr nick to neanderthal_WAKING (from hibernation) :)
Romeen
Its always good to be 'Underdog'..that way you have more fans..:) We want the cats to go WILD...be the true WILDcats...
Go Wild.. Cats Go!
PS: That's cheer for your pom pom girls...Don't forget ur boundary line distractions for United;)
Madhu
i will do that brother....now let me screw your mind alil'....it was nice to talking to last week and see ya today probably again.
Romeen,
I think it's 2-0 in my favour. NW did not give me the slip, and 400 runs is out. I think number of 6s and the final outcome are yet to be decided. Though # of 6s is in my favour at this point.
Ok. Game on for predictions for tomorrow, unless it rains (likely). They we'll have to postpone the same predictions to whenever the game is played.
sheky sheky sheky.....hands off the snakey....
Shekhs said:

---------------------
Agree but then keep in mind, he was bowling to a batting line up that has....well....been sputtering all season long :).
What up n_w?
welcome back...!
Howya been?
Swet, didn't mean to peg ya with samarth's stats...sorry bud...I thought those very pretty cool figures for 20/20..
i have been on and off and ton of work too bro.
how u doing with those twins sheky ?
yo tango brother. dont act like you didnt see me.
when did i give u the slip adi?
They aint twins...4 and 2...
They are doing good..thanks..yeah and I always have a good time with them..
NW,
You didn't give me the slip.
Shekhs, like Jaggi, you look too young to be a Dad. I keep having to remind myself that Jaggi isn't too young for Daddyhood!
Swets,
I will say I am disappointed with Arsenal. With your 11 All-Stars, or at least a few, and from what I remember of you guys last year, I thought you would be ruling the roost, or at least close. But then again same thing for ICC, who I really thought would have another impressive year.
Thanks Adi, appreciate the compliment....but you have no idea...you know when you are getting older.... :-)
You're right. I don't have kids, not planning on having any in the near future, so definitely no idea....
guys,
what players would you guys consider the biggest underachievers. we would expect them to do really great things but tendsto underachieve.
my top underachiever is nasir from flames!! you think he would dominate the league but fizzles out??? both faisal(s) mgc and ucc would be up there as well.
this should be interesting.
CMC.....nasir?........please
lot of people think he is better then raheel. agian this is underachieving not allstar.
i would say they both are the same in many ways....and in my opinion, both have gotten more than they deserve.
good point n_w,
can't argue with you there. what about the other 2 and who would you put on there.
Adi,
I agree man....To use CMC's words, most of the Arsenal bats (barring Surya and at times the lower order bats and I hate using that word lower order.....) have underachieved this season.
A few more runs in a few matches and we would have been in a much better shape.

Aditya, why are u lying?
Huh? You don't think they look young? Or is it you don't think Shekh's looks young?
Can't say about Shekhs, haven't seen him yet...but Jaggi, c'mon.
Sorry Jaggi...
That's your opinion, but I disagree. There are a few in the league that I know who look a lot younger than they are.
We can agree to disagree...
Amongst the bloggers, Swetal & Preetam look young...
both of them may disagree :)
Yes, but for the purposes of cricket, who plays like they are younger than they actually are?
Who is the oldest cricketer in Division?
^Division I
Shiva Rajagopal? yes Tango... he's from Phoenix!
Ram,
I luv u man :) but that balding patch that has steadily formed at the most ungainly place at the center of my head is beginning to show my age :)...
BTW, My fantasy football guys bowl at Hoffman Lanes on the corner of Roselle and Higgins. Anyone been there ?
-s
How old is Shiva?
BTW. Welcome back ND. I thought the United guys finally got a hold of you.
Not sure, and I don't wanna get in trouble for guessing wrong!! ;-)
He must be in his 50's right? He's been playing for a while now.
Thanks Swetal, so far we have two options...one from Sameer and other from you. Let's wait for another day.
How about Dave and Busters on Lake and 355?
United v/s Wildcats AL game:
Romeen,
Fellas,
I would like to suggest that each of you make a sincere effort to participate and donate (whatever you can) to make this event a success.
I’m not representing the management or my team, but just thought that we should definitely help out as much as we can, as there is no other place than our blog to spread the word.
Please work with your team to do the necessary.
Thanks
Shekhs
Adi,
It would have been nice if you made it, we went out for a bit...
next time..
Shekhs,
For a bit sounds like an understatement...mann it was a pretty good one to meet you guys..
Yeah, I had a blast hanging out...although it sucked waking up this morning.....
please dont mind if I dont respong....I might have fallen asleep on my desk....
lolz !! it was indeed tough for u to get up so early, i was fortunate enough not to get up so early..
What up with this Friday buddy, should we go to Chasers rather than for a bowling alley, just a thought...
Naren,
I'd pick Chasers before any place, any day...
I'm up for anything..
Sorry Ro,
but you guys are better suited for the longer version of the game.
RoRo,
Did Mehul play yesterday?
Yes Tango, Mehul did play.
tango and cmc, I think both of you have valid points, its probably a combination of what both of you are saying.
Tango,
We finally figured out who you are...after some clever detective work...
Shekhs, as much as I love you man, I'm gonna rat on you on this one.
Listen Tango, we have no friggin' idea!!
And its killing me. :)
He's a Chimpanzee!!!
remember how we analyzed and figured that one...?
No Tango...we have no idea....and its really bothering us...
We were contemplating hiring some PI on the hunt...
It was fun hanging out. Shekhs and Tushar, are you guys gonna stop by this saturday?
I'll try...
Good luck for the game!
Thanks, I think we are gonna need some.
RoRo & Sheky
there there my boys, what good is going to do you, me, or this blog if you figure out who I am?
Well Tango....as usual....you have a point...and its taken..
no more questions...
rest in peace!
Can I ask you one last question..before I call it a day?
Sheky?
Why a chimp?
Is there something you want to tell us?
Or are you trying to tell us something?
Why a chimp?
Well, why not? And no, its not a hint or anything. I ain't that smart :)
Aiite fellas..I'm out..
Thought I'll drop this for discussion before I take off..
Swetal wanted to discuss this (Nari, please dont crucify me :-))..
Topic - Analyze Arsenal !!!
Why are they perennial underachievers?
Please no haters....and being an underachiever is just my opinion....I luv swet and his guys...
Got in to work at 9:30 ! Man, am still reeling from last nite and I just had 2 drinks ! Shekhs/Tushar: I blame this on you; I was going to stop after the first drink but u jagbags made me get another !getting old....can't drink no more....gotta stop..not to self.....stop...NOT !
hi Ram,
How hung up are you on the bowling thing man ? Can we instead just hang out at Chasers or some other bar for happy hour and drink/chat; maybe hold hands and sing Kumbaya?!.
Besides I only bat these days (suck at that too but thats a diff story..)....I stopped bowling a while back; had issues with Wides...I think I still hold a record for bowling 15+ wides in one over.
Shekhs said:
Swetal wanted to discuss this (Nari, please dont crucify me :-))..
----------
Oh come on, man. I didn't tell you to discuss this.; you guys were insinuating that we might need a change at the help (and you might ne right..)...You guys ganged up on me last night...we know we aint performing to the level we can. Aint nothing to discuss...can't beat a dead horse when its allready dead man.
Swetal/Shekhs,
Chasers is fine....but I don't drink alcohol...as long as they serve orange juice and let me smoke, I'll be good.
Lets fix chasers for friday night...I'll be there around 8PM. Where is it?
Romo, congrats on your first wicket this season this past Sunday. I will say, I was surprised to see that you bowled, and that too for 5 overs! Pretty decent numbers too!!!
Tushar, Shekhs, it's always a good time with them. I haven't been able to make it out much lately, but maybe Tuesday after our game!
^ them = you guys.
When does Ajit get back?
Aditya,
I don't think I've made any predictions as to who'd win the championship.
would rank them as No. 1 in terms of form and momentum given the Cats recent loss. Maybe a Cats vs Purdue final?
I'd rank Milwaukee CC at no.1 ahead of Purdue at no.2 and Wildcats at no.3.
Don't want to brag but while back, i recall being the first 2 purdue as my dark horse pick and remeber getting slammed for it!
Adi, thanks man! Finally somebody is noticing my bowling talent! :)
Adi, I dont think its safe to say that the champion will emerge from the current top 5 when you have teams like Pak Gym in the bottom 3.Once they make it to the playoffs, a new season begins. Lets not forget they are last year's champions.
don't want to pick on you ro
but another loss and no update on the scorecard(challengers)...

Ram,
Are you calling me old ?
Wait a minute....i guess you are right.
Romeen,
I agree, it's not "safe" to say because of Pak Gym. HOwever, I would contend that the chances favour the winner coming from the top 5 coz the top 5 are playing consistently well.
Tango,
It may be splitting hairs, but I have to disagree. Milw CC lost a few weeks ago to Milw Utd. Purdue lost 2nd game of the season to Challengers. Since then, Purdue has beaten Pak Gym and Muslim Gym with solid performances. Based on their current form and streak, I'd put them No 1.
Aditya,
Its hard to pick one between the two. I had MCC ranked no.2 and Purdue no.3 a few weeks back. Since then, neither have a lost a game. So I'll still keep MCC ahead of Purdue.
