Folks,

Clarification: Sledging and use of abusive language by CCI players did not effect the outcome of the game. They beat us by 20 run and so I give them Kudos. I expected teams to act in a professional manner and was wrong. CCI feels they did nothing wrong by verbally attacking our batsman. My personal stance is that next time this happens I would like to give teams that do this a greater dose of there own medicine.

The reason I replied to Alpesh's question was that I wanted to warn other teams that will play CCI in future to keep in mind that CCI has this tendency and be prepared.

I am not a shy one and know how to intimidate these kind of kids. But majority of my team member do not want to play this type of negative cricket, hence we will continue down our path of staying humble and playing as a unit.

about the CCI-Giants game

Im the slip fielder- Dhruv Agarwal, NOT Saharsh Parekh

Firstly sledging happens in every game around the world. Some people are good at it, some people arnt.

As for using abusive language, no one from CCI did, not to the umpire, not to the other team.

It was Rizvan, that started with the mthrfcker, sistrfckr etc. I mean thats just not done on the field.

He even went on to threaten the keeper with a " I will be waiting for you after the game"

I mean, cricket is a man's game, its not for little girls. if you cant handle it dont play.

Tonald Drump said...

Dhruv,

That is not what umpire Suresh's report to the league say.

Good Luck to you guys. Looking forward to playing your team again. Promise to show CCI what Sledging looks like Desi Style.

Just in. August 24th, 25th, 26th announced as the dates for USACA western conference championship to be held at Woodley Park, Southern Claifornia. Three days of 50 overs games will be played with a minimum of two games that must be played by each team. Does anyone think MWCC has the talent to survive two consecutive 50 over games let alone three and do you think this is the level of Cricket we should be striving for?

CG first of all u have Sashi in u're team who looks after Div 2 mngmt issue n if umpires report says so then wht n when action we shd expect from Mgmt........

Dhruv I agree sledging is part of game but there r limits to it....I think u r new to league n u r not aware of rules of MCC.......

NO PERSONAL COMMENTS IN GROUND.....thats it.......

If it is true and u guys were doing sledging to this extend u shd I was not there as umpire...........

I would have awarded game to Chicago Giants if u were doing sledging and awarded to u if Chicago Giants.......... there itself...............

Dhruv we r not here to make our carrer in cricket.....we play for fun n u need to understand.....grow up

Congratulations to Anjuman on the win.
A combination of some very disciplined bowling (a total of 3 wides IIRC), great fielding (as always from Anjuman) and a poor batting display from the Wildcats resulted in the low score.
When Anjuman came on to bat, they ran some sharp singles and completely took the game away.
The WC really have to pull up their socks in the remaining 2 games if we are going to be any sort of force in the AL tourney.
Good win,Anjuman.

Adnan,

Which teams play in the Western Conference Championships?

Shekhs said...

Adnan,
When you say Western conference championships, we are talking about league level cricket right?

In that case, I think we have the talent to participate.

I believe if we can get a good team ready by then, we should be able to compete well.

Aditya said...

Adnan,

Can we put up a team for this, or does it have to be a "Wstern" team? We should consider it, because MWCC most certainly will not.

Rup said...

That will be nice but teams fighting for a playoff spot will not want to see their players leave on this week end.
my feeling is a lot of good players will miss out.
these are the tours that mgt needs to see that we get on as the level of competition is about the same.
This is cricket like our level and will do well if we put our best team out.
We need to take a 15 man squad to cover for injuries or exhaution and we will be fine.
If mgt is willing to reschedule teams that have players on this tour we will see a good team out.
Adnan do you know what expenses are to be covered by the team?.

Which teams play in the Western Conference Championships?
===========================
California (2 teams, north and South (Franklyn Rose plays for South, plus couple of more guys who have supposedly played Ranji), Texas (Texas is a powerhouse. They have couple of guys apparently played first class in Sri lanka, India and Pakistan. They were western conference champs last year), Midwest region (Chicago and surroundings).
==============================
When you say Western conference championships, we are talking about league level cricket right?
=================================
This is a structure that has been laid out by USACA. 4 top teams 2 from East and two from Western region will advance to USACA national Championship to be held in September or October. Out of these 4 top teams USA national squad is selected for ICC tours and what not.
=================================
Can we put up a team for this, or does it have to be a "Wstern" team? We should consider it, because MWCC most certainly will not.
================================
Sorry Aditya! Squads are selected based on regional championship performance. The team that will represent Central East Zone has already been picked and to no surprise will be lead by people from Glendale Heights. Iam fighting to get couple of more spots knowing that 3 days of 50 over games, we will need all the help we can get.
=================================
Adnan do you know what expenses are to be covered by the team?.
=================================
If you are a rogue such as us then we pay our own airfare, hotel and transportation will be provided. Glendale Heights league will cover the airfare for their guys.
==================================
Samarth Shah and Ruchir Saheba have guaranteed spots. Just to give everyone a little isnight, before Chicago United went to L.A. open no one knew where MWCC stood at the national level. After the competition CER director specifically requested Faisal Baig and Kamran Khan to be included in the squad. Visibility is very important folks. You could be a MWCC Bradman, but if you are not exposed, you are nothing. We need to take charge of Central Zone so we can field a better team and we cannot do it by boycotting USACA. I am not concerned with who is running the zone, all I care is that our guys get a fair share of the pie. I leave the politics to those who know how to play it.

=============================
Rup, I look at it this way, if a player feels league matches are more important than participating in a national tournament then we move on to the next one. These tournaments are far more important then to be held hostage by any player. MWCC has enough talent to put couple of teams at this level.

Makes one wonders what the learning curve is at their college.
~~~
There's no learning curve. Univ of Illinois students have learnt all the important lessons in life before they enter college. Just watch the cult-classic "Risky Business" to understand what I mean. ;-)
Although I think that despite his best efforts to get into Illinois, Tom Cruise "only" manages to get into Yale at the end.
He should have applied to Purdue. Not much of a Law school, but least we have a good cricket team ;)
Sorry CCI. The first thing they teach us at Purdue is that its a sin to pass on any opportunity of ridiculing your Big Ten counterparts. My hands were tied.
I think you haven't seen the movie. The character's interests are rather more adventurous than Law or cricket.
BTW I think last time CCI played Purdue (it was in a practice game at Lohmann Park), CCI won by 1 run. It was in the 2004 season I think. You guys were missing Ashwin and Pradeep, but still had Girish, Sharath, and Appu. We were missing Rahul, Imran, and Dr. Khan. It was the last time I played Purdue as a CCI player anyway...
Then in 2005 you guys got left the dog-eat-dog world of Div 2 and joined the easy life of Div 1. Got scared of CCI I think. ;-) Before 2004, I think we used to play at least one CCI vs Purdue game per year, if not two. Although I recall being on the winning side against Purdue only twice in my 7 years at UIUC.
We have quite a few uni teams in MWCC...University teams should have a weekend 20/20 tournament or something every year...at one Uni and have rolling shield to the winners...that way Cricket can get good exposure and attention from the university officials..it will easier for funds and stuff...I met up with Marketing Prof Dr. Ramana (Great cricket enthusiast!) at SIUE and was chatting.. he was mentioning that he is working with the SIUE Uni to get some sort of scholarship for the cricket players played at a good level. It will nice to see cricket get sort attention that basket ball gets...just a thought..
This is Anil @ CCI. I want to set the record straight about some comments here about our game with Giants last week. There was only one incident in the game as far as i know and whatever is said to Rizwan or any other batsman was about his batting abilities. The word MF was never uttered by any of our players as far as i know. We never said anything disrespectful to the umpire. We obviously were not happy with the lbw decision which was so obviously not out and complained about it. The fact of the matter is that you guys cannot take the credit away from us. Giants players,......during the game we said stuff and you said stuff about us too, how is it that the stuff you said comfortably eliminated in your version posted here and the stuff we said is blown out of proportion. On that day we played better cricket as a team and we won......come to terms with it. From where I see, you were very unsportsman like.
Here are the list of Uni, what a great tournament it will make:
1. IIT
2. UIC
3. CCI (UIUC)
4. SIUE
5. Purdue
6. Bradley (they didn't have team this year but players r there)
7. Indiana State
8. UIS (springfied)
9. ISU
I am sure other Unis will join the fray if they get invite or something..
Any Interesting games this weekend ? Any brewing rivalries ? Have to check where Sadiq is umpiring. For some reason he seems to be umpiring either the interesting games or games where good players play. How come Sadiq ? :)
Add Northwestern to the list.. we have quite a few Kellogites in our league.
Well said but we need to prepare our teams for these events.
From your article these teams are decided from Regionals so i guess we need to start from there.
My point was that we need to schedule around these tours so that MWCC players do not loose out on what they have worked on all summer. "Playoffs"
Jaggi said...
Starting next year, we should make it a point to send a team or two to the regionals. Good luck to all those that have been selected this year.
TrueChampion said...
Madhew: I like the idea. We can even invite University teams from other leagues. Teams like University of Minnesota and our arch rivals Ohio State might show up. Both these teams are very good.
TrueChampion said...
===========================
Samarth: Your right. Purdue wouldn't make sense. Not a lot of adventurous things to do in the cornfields of Indiana. Maybe thats the reason why our hometown boys Greg Oden and Mike Connely Jr. preferred playing for out-of-state teams.
All this talk about organizing tourneys by MWCC is all great; but first we need to work on an all-star game (or games) within MWCC, learn from it and then plan for bigger and better things going forward.
We seemed to have forgotten all about ALL STAR.
