LA Open Team:

Where are me broders Rup and Jack, both whom played first class cricket in the Caribbean, and has proven themselves in Midwest. No room for em. Team full of other stars.

look like no prize for performance....... prudue pradeep parera top15 in balling and bating last year and current top15 in batting this year.......... imran form muslim 500run last year (top #1 batsmen) and 160run in 4 game this year............. this guys not even approch?????? addy, did u approch this guys for ur team?????

vp, do I konow you?

rup is old, jack should have been selected. this is how the mgmt reacts when u piss them off. The presenet selection comitee has only TA. he is not here in chicago and has not attended a single 20/20 game.. how can he decide???? sohail is a good bat and yes I agree that he should be playing, but isnt it time that someone younger be captain? another player that even I missed is imran syed, why isnt he being considered???? Taylor is a good keep and not a great bat. wouldnt parikh/sharath/anand make a better choice?

Anonymous said...

We've got far better bowlers than Nasir and Raheel. Banda, Sanjay Patel, Chitan Shah, Priyank, Subbu and even Kamran Khan are much better bowlers than those two.

I don't understand why they didn't contact Mahesh Parikh. He's much better than Imran Taylor. Hell, even Sharath is a better option than Imran.

Amit, Madhu and Afroze are also debatable, but I can live with them. Amit's is a decent bat, although his numbers are inflated since St.Louis play all their games on astro-turf. Madhu and Afroze have put up decent numbers this year, but so have several others like Romesh, Pradeep, Suresh, and Imran Syed, who are probably more deserving than any of the guys selected.

All in all, its still a decent team, even though we could have done much better.

But hey, at least they put down a list of players they contacted. Something to be happy about :)

romeen, you are one of the most approachable and friendly guy in midwest. u know most people in midwest and u know me too

So Aditya, technically my prediction of 400 runs is out the window, but you have to agree, I came VERY close. We can still have the team batting second win (Tushar and Shekhs, nothing personal, I just wanna keep my grass), and still have 14 sixes scored.
So, did you come up with an offer yet?

Unknown said...

And Tango, who won the 'guess the LA team contest'?

Shekhs said...

Romeen,
I hope you end up being incorrect.. :-)
The game is wide open, gonna be a cracker...

Dr. Booo...Let me refresh about Rup's performance in his last LA Open (if i am right 2005). He gave over 10+ runs per over and didn't impress with bat aswell.
Rup is good for midwest but i am not sure about LA open.

Madhu from peoris also participated during that year and his bowling may not be impressive but he has some good knocks with the bat. I am sure he will succeed this time around.

All the best for the team and make this league proud.

tango,nw one of you making list of winners for la team prediction?????

-----------------------------------
Tango, if there is anybody that I can vouch for, its Madhu from Peoria. He is one of the most feared hitters in the league. I go back to Sep 14th 2004 when we(Tigers) played against Pak Gymkhana. Vinod, Ram and Madhu(from Rivercity) played for us. Ram and Vinod were both brilliant, but one that stole the show was Madhu. He blasted 91 runs of 45 balls(the scorecard doesnt reflect the no of balls) and got us really close to chasing 278 runs(we fell short by 12). There was one flat six that started off 6 feet from the ground and stayed that way.
http://www.midwestcricket.org/asp/Score88.asp?id=1272

He has donned a new role now after becoming captain. He is the ultimate team man and is always looking to give more chances to the newer players. He comes much lower down the order and blasts a couple of sixes and takes his team home.

In my opinion, he richly deserves to be on that flight to LA.

Dr B said...

Do not judge on one or two performances. Rup and myself knows why he had a poor performance at that 2005 tournament. Someone mentioned he is old. Which one of us is not? Do you see any 21 yr old kid running up from boundary line or walking into hook shots...in this league. We are the cricketers now and the future,in this part of the word.

That said, nothing taken awaw. We must be PROUD of the MIDWEST TEAM in that tournament.

Shekhs said...

Tango,
It was nice to meet you...on tuesday... :-)
Thanks for saying hello...

your secret is safe with me..

Anonymous said...

Jaggi,

Are you saying he's more deserving of that spot, than say a guy like Imran Syed, who topped the Division in scoring last year, and whose put up good numbers this year?

I like Madhu, he's a good hitter, but is Tushar, and so is Kamran, but no one else deserves a spot more than Imran.

Anonymous said...

Romeen,

I think Justice_4_all was closest. Although, I haven't checked. Busy day today.

Anonymous said...

And why on earth did they contact Tehsin?

Do they feel that Tehsin is better than either Asif or Bola? Cos I don't think they'd be flying three spinners , in a 12 man squad, to LA.

Aditya said...

Romeen,

Out of our 4 criteria, I've already won 2 of them.

14 sixes, that looks tough, but still undecided. Pak Gym winning, is also very much up in the air. But it will be resolved soon enough. As of now, I lead the predictions 2-0!

So, the terms, we are playing the last game of the season. Loser brings drinks for both teams! Wanna throw in Lunch? I know that a couple of the other bloggers want u to setup the party, but that's something I've already said no to.... unfortunately!

Sound good?

Man, I'm in such a bad mood today....was arguing with a couple of feminists this morning. God damn! I hate feminists!

Jaggi said...

Tango, I agree that Imran Syed is deserving of a spot in the team. I remember his innings against us in a day game(I didnt play the night game where he scored 100 runs in 50 balls). I had a piece on the blog last year rating him as one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball I have ever seen in our league.

My point is that Madhu is definitely deserving. I have seen a bunch of games where Madhu has pretty much destroyed quality bowling attacks.

Yes we did. He wanted to wait for MWCC list. We could not wait that longer.

you know guys whats worst than TA himself? TA with idiots like sohail and other henchmen.

how in the world people like afroze, amit, naseer and raheel make it to the team.

the difference between addy and TA, Addy picked his friends and they are going to play for their trip but for MWCC case we have to bear the cost.

I still can't believe this MGT will not Select Jack for an MWCC team.
I guess he is paying for my stakes against mgt..sorry Jack.
Me Personally I don't care if I am selected or not.

----------------------------
Only a couple of bowlers came out looking good at the 2005 La open. I had one bad game, the first one 62 runs and was left behind bowling only 4 over the next two games. Avg runs given up per over by MWCC bowlers was 10.6.
As for batting I got one real good chance and got some runs unless you want to count the last game i faced the last ball and only got 1 runs?.
Fielding is what killed us in 2005.
Just clearing my name here guys.

Good luck to the La team. Be proud that you're representing MWCC and forget the superstars as on any given day in 20/20 you are as equal as them.

Guys - a new thread has been posted specifically for LA Open comments/opinions. Please lets move the LA Open discussion there if you guys dont mind... this thread is already 400-posts old, and it would be nice to have a dedicated thread to LA Open discussion so guys just coming in can read it and react to whats said :-)

As for the above, BTW, Tango... Ive now umpired Maninder Bola twice, and seen him bowl about 15 overs and take 7 wickets (7 for about 50 I think). He's bowled very well. But he hasnt bowled a single ball of spin yet :-) He has been bowling exclusively left-arm medium-pace swing. He *can* bowl spin supposedly.. but he has been bowling only swing, even in his second spells lately. I would have had Maninder on my team to LA, but I would thus not have him as a spinner - Id take him as a top-order batsman (keep the ball down, hit fours, run hard etc), and a swing-bowling option (he is a very good and controlled swing bowler, but I personally think at that level lack of pace will make a big difference, and he isnt very quick. Id take him as a batting-allrounder in the squad myself, but that still leaves a spot open for a 2nd spinner in the squad, even with Maninder in the side).

Yes, I understand what your saying Jaggi. I'm just pissed off that Imran didn't make it. He surely deserved a spot. And it seems as though he expected himself to be selected. Poor guy!

neanderthal_walking said...

cricketwallah,

lets cut to the chase. do you think people like amit, afroze, raheel, neseer, tehsin deserve a place over others?

Aditya said...

Like everyone else, I'm disappointed for Imran. I think he should have been on there. There are a few questionable choices, but most of the choices are either clear cut or acceptable. I think this is a pretty decent team and I think they will do us proud.

Anonymous said...

c8w,
Thanks for clearing that up. But in any case, what are your takes on our opening bowlers? and our wicketkeeper. And don't worry, I won't get angry if I you put forth another diplomatic answer.

Anonymous said...

Few of them are clear cut. aka. Satha, Shahid, Sohail, Bola, Asif, Nilesh. A few are acceptable, aka. Daxx, Afroze, Amit, Madhu. The rest are unacceptable aka. Raheel, Nasir, Imran Taylor.

Also, is it N-Dee, or N-Dubyah?

Just want to make sure, so I don't get on the wrong side of you!! ;-)

Sohail Alvi -
Shahid Munir -
Satha Sivapragasam
Maninder Bola
Afroze Siddiqui - replaced with pradeep
Amit Kumar - replaced with imran syed
Asif Mahmood
Raheel Akhter - replaced with jack
Imran Taylor - replaced with suresh
Nilesh Patel
Nasir Mehmood - replaced with sanjay
Madhu Reddy
Dakshesh Patel

ideal situation addi would have spoke to TA and asked for list of players considered. he would know TA doesnt have the smartness to pick Imran. addi would have picked up imran and imran would score heavily in la. very sad to see imran lose oportunity :(((((

As Sadiq mentioned, lets please move our discussions regarding LA open to the new thread.

Adi, you are on buddy. Drinks for both teams on game day.
But remember, we have 2 more games to make predictions for, only then we decide the winner. Is that cool?

Aditya said...

So, back to the games this week.... NW, Tango, etc... what are the predictions for Div 1 and Div 2?

NW, Don't worry, you can predict against us. ;-)

Tango and n_w, you guys are beyond hilarious.
Zanie's is hiring.

Aditya said...

Yeah. That's the plan. 2 more games, or 2 more weeks? I'm ok with either one.

Right now, you are down 2-0, and soon to be down 4-0!

Unknown said...

Adi, you make the picks this week and I'll either agree or oppose you and we'll take it from there.

Unknown said...

I prefer picking one game and teasing it out, trying to predict total runs scored, highest wicket taker, highest scorer etc. You tell me what you think.

Unknown said...

And Tango, I must say my feelings are hurt a little bit :)
You trust Shekhs but not me, huh?
I kept shekh's secret all year! I can do it for you too, buddy! :)

Aditya said...

Ok. I'll make my predictions for the next night game before Tuesday for sure. Lets do this for 3 more games (4 in total). Then we'll calculate scores, and you get the drinks!!! :)

ps. He didn't give me the slip!

Aditya said...

Romeen, I know who Tango is too!

Shekhs, nice try!

Aditya said...

Romeen,

I agree with your suggestion. Lets do 4 games in total. We've done 1. You pick the game next week (Not Horizon or Wildcats), and I'll make the predictions. Then I'll return the favour the week after and you pick the game for the 4th and final week. One person picks one of the 3 games, the other person predicts. Sound good?

Unknown said...

I feel like I'm TOTALLY out of the loop here. :)
You miss one game and you find yourself behind the eight ball!

Unknown said...

Adi, you are on.
BTW, my team likes the orange flavor of Gatorade, they are very particular about it :)

Anonymous said...

Romeen,

Shekhs is making up stories. He doesn't know who I am.

Aditya said...

Romeen, Looks like you and I didn't guess the same person for N_W. That would have been funny though.

Aditya said...

Romeen,

By drinks, I meant beers! After a good hard-fought game (or at least I hope so!). But if you prefer non-alcoholic, that's fine too.

I personally like Guiness, but in the interest of our logistics, MGD and Miller Lite will do!!
