MCC Grounds

We have close to 20 grounds in our league including the 7 in Chicagoland. While Hanover Park has the best facility in the Chicagoland, it is a pleasure to play in St Louis and Mossville(home of PCC). Which ground do you like the most and which do you dislike and why? How have the grounds been this year so far?

WP-2 was pretty good last weekend. The grass wasnt too thick, but could still have used some cutting. The runups were fine. The boundary looked a bit short.

PCC played this weekend at Kennedy park Springfield CC.

DISCLAIMER:
*This is only postive feed back so the home teams get a chance to improve conditions for the future teams. Also, MCC league may help them to improve the conditions which will avoid any accidents or injuries. Please do not take it in any negative way*

Here are the most notable points about this ground:
Pitch condition is Matting on black top:
1. Outfiled is average with one end sloping down. But outfield was quite fast and dry.
2. Run up (south end; opposite to parking lot where pavilion is) is raised above the ground to keep it levelled with the pitch. Basically if you are fast/medium bowler coming in from this end and who has a run up more than 12 yards then they have climb uphill. Pretty tough task.
3. Matting does not stretch all the way to the wickets. So, no poppin crease visible from the run up on both ends. If you are going by the end of matting then definite no ball will result.
4. Pitch itself played well, only very few balls that did not raise or zipped by low.
5. Boundaries was about 70-72 yard (I haven't measured).
6. Crease lines were drawn with chalk and so they aren't clearly visible well either.

We played our first game in Collinsville. Pitch is carpet stuck to concrete, Kinda of Milwauke white water wicket. Here are notables points:

1. Ground was wet due to incessant rains and there was water logging on the field. Filed was not even close to playing condition. BUt this will improve as season progresses
2. Home team did try their best to clean it up as much possible. Grass clippings were air blown.
3. Carpet wasn't all the way dry.
4. Long on and off boundaries are about 68-70 yards and mid wicket boundares are less than 60 yards (I haven't measured). Its small ground.
5. Wicket played very well once it was dry in the after noon.
6. Nice bounce and ball comes true to the bat. No stopping like on the astro. Nice batting wicket
7. Out field is very slow. Ball wasn't travelling at all (this will improve as summer sets in I assume)
8. Run up is average and have to have a asto turf patch for the last yard to cover the concrete bump.
9. Pavilion facilities and rest rm facilities were good.

Cut grass on the hanover park ground was left on the feild, just made manuvering the ball around the ground that much harder. Pitch was in good condition ...

which are the toughest grounds to bat/field/bowl on?

I think the bowlers have a tough time in Hanover Park, especially the fast and medium pace bowlers.

Can some on post details of SIUE ground That the brand new ground added to MCC right

We played at Heritage park last week. The grass was cut!!!!Whow!!.
That wicket realy needs to be re-glues or new turf put on. It's loose in so many places which makes it difficult on timing your shots. The ball tends to pitch and hold thus vary bounce especially for spinners.

We (QC Kings) played a night match at Hanover last Saturday. The ground is awesome, the pitch, outfield, crowd and everything. We enjoyed the game very much even though we reached Moline at 3:00 am Sunday.

The only thing we felt the light is not that great. We were losing site of the ball very frequently.
We played there for the first time, may be that was the reason.

Is this only us? Or anybody else feels the same way about the lights.

Rup said...

Definitely need new lightings at hanover park. We need white lights instead of the ones the got on now.
The last time I asked about changing these I was told it will cost like 10K on MCC to update and we do not have that right now.
Can we get some sponsors to help out??.

well i think lights are fine as long as all lights are on at hanoverpark. white lights are awsome if they can replace it. i also think they need to cut grass more often and we should have boundry mark properly at hanoverpark.

I really like riverside park in Indiana. Good astro pitch and awesome outfield.
Varad, what are you complaining about? You scored a frickin' century at hanover park. :)

And yeah, the boundaries are definitely short at all the WP grounds this year. I think Farhat and other people from management are aware and are going to take care of that.

I think two of the top-notch grounds that I have played on in the past 5 years are Mossville, Peoria and Riverside Park, IN (as Romeen mentioned). I stated this last season, and I would state it again that these two grounds (especially the Mossville -PCC home) should be benchmarks for all the other fields as far as MCC is concerned.

On the flipside, one of the grounds that could definitely use some improvements (run-ups and bumpy outfields etc.) is the Springfield park (home of capitol and Sprinfield CC). Try saving one of the rasping drives from Satha's blade with the ball coming at you, bouncing in all directions. It is definitely not the most comfortable of grounds to show your fielding skills (although, I should not be complaining too much since I have always performed well there ;)).

Thank you for your comments. PCC is great wicket to bat and there islittle juice for the bowlers if there is cross wind blowing across the pitch. Last year we had some issues keeping the facility open, but this year its been worked out. Facility should be open for rest rooms and lunch. We working improving the run up little more and hopefully with little more MCC help we trying to get Australian- turf that would cover up the concrete (sides and stuff)... When concrete was layed we went dimensions provided but matting fell short...Neverthless its a good wicket.. Only issue right right now is the shade..Since ground is covers up with soccer fileds we did not get permission to put any permanent fixtures for pavilion sorts..We will work that out... If there any things that need improvement please let us know we will try our best to work on them. Thank you again...Hope to see all the MCC teams enjoy the good cricket game on PCC ground.

Rup,
I do have lot of respect as a player but it is apperent from your blogs that you are trying to impose your personal agenda on others. if you have problem with length of schedule you should play night cricket. if you have a problem with traveling you should play 30/30. i bet there are other people who want to play cricket but cant find time so they just dont play or play more leasure cricket. As far as i know you play night cricket as well. dont you think you are contradicting yourself? also what is your solution for travelling? should MWCC not inculde out of chicago teams? or should them travel to chicago for all the games?

Rup said...

Neanderthal. I have to look up the meaning of this word.
I play night cricket cause it's one game a month and on a week day evening and I hav't decided if i will play this year for the reasons I stated earlier.
As far as agenda, it means a plan of action that will be addressed at a fix time in the future.
Please go back and read my blogs and you will find that i am trying to address current problems that will be an issue in the future if not addressed soon.
Impose, i do not think there are too many Neanderthals in MCC so it will hard to cinvince them to do the wrong things.
I have spoke my peace on this travel topic several time so what you don't get on my Views.

PCC played in Lohman park urbana this weekend. This small ground but very nice.Pitch natural compacted lime stone soil and jute matting wicket and NOT concrete wicket as stated by MCC website. To my surprise it played very well. There were few showers and I was concerned if it gets wet ball may stay low and do few tricks. FOrtunately, it was slight drizzle from passing clouds. This is the first time I personally played on surface like that. Except one clean bowled of Dr. Khan I thought bowl kept nice height. BOundaries very short Aprrox 65 yards or so, but out field well cut and in great playing condition. If Jaggi or management reading this please change the website to reflect the true nature of the pitch. It is good challenge for the visting to look forward to play here. A different pitch and conditions to test their batting skills neverthless!

Hey Madhu..

SIUE ground has long thick grass in the outfield..very few boundaries are possible. Also bowling is done only from one end as the other end is very uneven. We had pretty heavy winds when we played..

PCC played in SIU Edwardsville this weekend. Very nice ground, but its thick grass like bloggers said. Grass was cut, but it was so thick that ball wasn't travelling. It waslike grass carpet underneaht. Every power hitter in our team had trouble hitting it down ground. Pitch is spot on! Great pitch to bat and bowl. Bowl doesn't swing much but, will do little bit for bowlers. Its a carpet on concrete. It kinda reminded me of Milwaukee United Whitewater ground. What have been told is that they got he carpet from lowe's got it done there. Who ever did it did a great job on it. It will survive for couple years but its wicket! One end of the outfield is little bumpy but nothin major to worry about. There is slope but nothing unusualy. They are still working on securing the funds to update the ground. Once thats done, it will fantastic ground for MCC!
