Hi ..

Looks like there were very good games in the first weekend of the season ...

Phoenix-Challengers was a very close one.

In Div 2, Advancers posted a huge total ...

Looking forward to some exciting games in the coming weekend ...

Rup said...

WOW..Advancers 300+ at WP. That's a huge score considering the grounds at WP were like the rough at Agusta.
Can some one have them bring out the clippers.
Looked like somebody marked the boundries. I hope 2 & 3 are ok size cause 4 looks like a 60yd boundry markings??.
Looks like there were some good games but we had a lot of lopsided victories.. first week I guess or is that some teams are too good??.
ICC looke like they wer going to get a big score after being 64 for 1 after 9 over. Universals fought back well and if it was not for the flourish at the end by Nokhram and Youdeo 200 looked imposible around the 35th over.
ICC bowling proved too much for Universal as the strugled to get 85 and i think the last wicked added about 30.
for now

We had a heart breaking loss to the Challengers. The Challengers posted 250 runs in 45 overs, with Tushar, DAXX and Sanjay doing the major damage.

We had a wonderful reply with Athreya leading the way with an inspiring 109, the first century of the 07 season. It was a delight to watch him play. He was very well supported by Fabian, Sameer and Naveen. In the end we fell short by 8 runs, but walked out knowing that it was a game to be won by us. A good learning experience for the team and we will hopefully be able to carry that forward to our next game.

Congratulations to the Challengers. Rupesh, bowled very well at the death. He bowled fast and kept it full.

Can teams please update the weekly summary and the scores? As of now, the following have not:

Div-1: Royals, AAA and Milwaukee United.

Div-2: Chicago, Universal, West Suburban, NoStars, Tigers

zulfi said...

It seems like AAA got to work hard to survive in div 1...their performance wasn't up to their potential......hoping that they can come back strong.....challengers won the close game..they should thanks to rupesh who bowled wisely in the end...united has come back strong with 250 on the board after not making it to playoffs last year...bears not likely to go anywhere with their new captain imran..who doesn't have captain's ability...rogers park won easily which wasn't expected...it seems like they r coming as a unit not like years before....royals had no existance against pak gym pace attack which is the best in the league they got out early and pak chased it easily...

When is the complete schedule gonna be out ?

Rogers Park vs. Milwaukee United
Lincoln Park, May 05, 2007

Match Report
------------

MUCC won the toss and elected to bat first on a cold and damp saturday morning. The weather remained chilly, damp, cloudy and sort of gloomy all day with the max temperature recorded at 58.

Rogers park got into the wicket taking mould soon and had openers Sadiq and Sharath back in the pavilion with the score reading 15/2 at the end of the 5th over.

The new ball bowlers Zeeshan, Sufian and Rafi bowled acurately and made good use of the seam and swing being offered.

Rust, lack of practise and presence of several unsuspecting newcomers unfamiliar with div - I cricket demands made batting difficult.

A damp, slow and low wicket coupled with good fielding, sharp catching, timely bowling changes and accurate bowling from Rogers Park saw MUCC end their innings bowled out for a meagre 120 of 36 overs with only perenial all star Bhavneet 'bunty' Sarna providing any back bone with a patient and timely knock of 36. Javed and Shashi Bhushan chipped in with some useful contributions although overall MUCC's batting was a disaster. Most of Rogers park bowlers conceded measly and ended up with admirable economy rates.

Rogers Park started their chase aggresively posting 45 runs of the first 4 overs prompting MUCC captain Prasad to turn to his spinning options very soon in the innings. Off spinner Shyam and leg spinner Bunty proved effective but were unable to bring down the run rate and or clinch a wicket for MUCC. The introduction of off spinning duo of Javed and Badri did change things some what dramatically albiet briefly. From being about 70 without loss in and around the 8 over mark, Rogers Park held onto to win the game scoring 121/5 in abut 26 overs with one batsmen retd hurt.

Kudos to Rogers park on their well earned and well deserved victory. Special mention has to be made of their opening batsmen who scored a rapid fire 50+ to go with the 90+ he had against us in a losing effort batting first from last season.

4 dropped catches of this batsmen hurt has real bad and who knows we could have pulled out a stunner had we held on early in the innings.

MUCC as a team need to pull their sock up and step up into their A game starting next game when we play United CC which is another excellent team.

Good luck to Rogers park for the remainder of the season. Bunch of good fun loving guys. A special mention about umpire Farhat (Muslim Gymkhana). He was consistent, accurate, fair and seems very knowledgeable about the game. He also conducted the game in a timely, sportive and cordial environment.

Any Idea when the full schedule will be posted?

Rup said...

From what I was told the schedule is all set for the season. It's a matter of time before the web site is updated. I hav a feeling it will be out this week end.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the information Rup. Congrats on your first win of the season. This Nokhram guy who scored 70 wasn't he the captain of Moline Cricket Club last year?

Rup said...

Yep, he was the captain of Moline last year.

----------

That looks like a pretty huge pickup for ICC in the offseason - Nokram was near the top of the standings as a spinner and had a few terrific innings with the bat as well IIRC. With one of the better wickettaking spinners in the division joining a team already loaded with pace bowling, the ICC attack looks really formidable.

Anonymous said...

Cricketwallah, you are right it was a good pick for ICC. With highest wkts he was one of their most expensive bowlers (almost 6.00 per over). The real spinner Muhammed (I guess) is still with Moline team.

Its amazing we ended up having a conversation about Moline team which I feel has no chance this season whatsoever. From what I hear from my friends I would be surprised if they win even a single game this year.

I feel bad for this years captain of moline team because they lost all their away games last year and have not crossed 100 in their last 3 games they played last season.

I really want them to prove me wrong. It will be good for cricket if they bounce back from last season ending disaster. Really tough task at hand for a new captain.

Hey guys Chicage Acers club is a young and upcoming team. This past weekend they played against another new team to SIUE. The acers got off to a flyer as I myself went opening and scored 18 runs off 8 balls. Unfortunately I got out to a double-minded shot and the innings slowed and aside from a nice innings of 33 by an ex-Nostar known as Faraz Durrani nobody else really contributed besides the wides. In the bowling portion we had a horrible time with our own wides, We were only defending 103 and we sent down 37 wides. I came into the attack when the score was 77 for 1 in 17 odd overs and picked up two wickets in my first over. I bowled 4 overs with 1 maiden for 7 runs while picking up four wickets. Unfortunately the target was 40-50 runs short and they chased it with 7 odd overs remaining. Greatly played game between SIUE and Chicago Acers although the umpiring was very poor. He gave two lbws that even the opposite team was surprised that he had given. RUP I look forward to opening against you next week.

Ouch!!! Looks like I spoke too much too soon yesterday. Moline Cricket club won their first game of the season. I feel so stupid for even writing that without seeing the scorecards.

Rup said...

Of course when you loose a star player it auto makes you look weaker but such situations does bring out the better of whats left.
I have had the pleasure to meet and know wa few of the moline players and they are a good bunch of guys so expect no surprise if you see them in the playoffs again this year.
Definitely Nokhram make our team a little stronger than last year as he is a good alrounder.
Mastakilla, Sunday is mothers day, ICC hosting. What ya all wan ah do.
By now MWCC should know not to schedule ICC for Heritage or Hanover but we will do something anyways. How many vegetarians are on your team??

Rup said...

Universal,
can one of you go into the score card and correct the info for your team that ICC entered. when i was entering the score I could not find Mayur on your team so I may have entered some one else for him.
On the note you guys need to give the name of your players as you have on this web page to the opposition when asked for it as i had to make some judgement call on the names of your players when entering the score. This goes for all teams.
thanks
Rup

Hey Rup thanks for the offer but the problem is that we are not vegeterians we just cant eat meat that has noe been sacrificed in the name of our lord. i hope you understand that i am not trying to diss your cooking but rather its just a religious thing. I am looking forward to sundays game and hope to score some runs against you guys. This year I wont be talking any smack at all. No matter what happens. I also would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Rup and Illinois CC for all the bad mouthing I did last year. Hopefully you will accept my apology. And lets hope for a good game on Sunday.

Good Day Fellas..

What do you guys think about Gilchrist playing with an extra ball :-) - I mean having the squash ball inside the glove?

I think its creative...I'm sure any losing team just needs another reason to whine about...

I am not running scared at all my friend. The thing is i just realized what i was doing last year was not the right thing. You will not see me doing any trash talking this year. What happened to you guys Zimbo, you guys all out in 54 runs even after you won the championship last year. Anyways Rup good luck this sunday. Looking forward to playing against you and jack this week.

Anyone, who is SIUE ( what does this stand for). Edwardsville is this in Illinois or England as it has that noble tone to it!!!!. I could not find the ground info under grounds??

Rup said...

another q my friends.
Does anyone know what going on with Rivercity??.
Chitt??????

Unknown said...

Rup,

Judging from the schedule and list of teams and players, Rivercity seemed to have broken up. I think Chit is playing for Jolly Rovers.

I think SIUE stands for Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.

Rup said...

I will try and reach Chitt and get the details.
I found Edwardsville next to St louis.. is this the one.

Unknown said...

yeah Rup, unfortunately for us Chicago teams, we have another really long drive this season as Edwardsville is near St.Louis, just like Collinsville.

Unknown said...

look like phonix and challenger had a good game. it's good to see challenger in good form. daxx, tushar, sanjay are in good shape from season opener.
for phonix team : how was the experience playing against challenger 1st game of the season. challenger sure missed good player on first game.
good luck challenger..

Until your scores are in you should be banned from blogging..Time out. LOL.
Thanks for the props Zimbo. You can always count on ICC to show good sports!!

MastaKilla said...

Guys we have already spoken with management as to why the scorecard has not yet been entered. I have also spoken with my captain and he has assured me that the scorecard will be entered by tonight. Dont you think i want the scorecard to be entered? For the first time in my life i will be ahead of Rup in the wickets column. Even though that will probably last only a couple of more days. Zimbo thanks for your support. I was only playing with you also. Fast_n_furious i have no idea whether i know you personally or not but juz to let you know every single week of the season i will try my best to score some runs whether that be against jack or rup or who ever it is going to be. Wish everyone the best of luck this week.

It is indeed the very same Edwardsville - the main SIU campus, IIRC, is in Carbondale, but this is SIU-Edwardsville branch that has entered our league.

As you saw, Rup, its a long long way away - almost as far as St Louis. From the north burbs, Id say Edwardsville is about 5-odd hours drive, 300-odd miles or so. St Louis, Collinsville and Edwardsville are all really close to each other.

I wonder if it would make sense for the league to do what it used to do in Division One with St Louis teams - that is, schedule 2 games for one weekend, one vs Edwardsville on Saturday and one vs Collinsville on Sunday, so teams can go for a whole weekend and finish 2 games? If not, the travelling will be a killer for Division Two teams this season. Any team that has both Collinsville and Edwardsville on the schedule and has to travel there twice... ouch.

I know the aim is for only 3 travel games in a season. I just think in Division Two, it will be *very* hard to achieve - almost impossible. I mean, look at the numbers - in Division Two you have Collinsville, Edwardsville, Springfield, Peoria, JollyRovers (Peoria), Urbana-Champaign, Moline, Madison. Thats 8 away teams in the division (and these are all a *long* way away, none a "close" travel like Milwaukee or something... the closest travel might be Urbana, and thats about 3 hours away). Given 8 away teams in the division, it will be very hard for the schedulers to have only 3 away games per team IMHO - Id guess minimum 4 or even 5 are more likely, no? And for the unlucky ones it could even be 6? Unless the schedulers make the away teams play each other a few times too... which may not be such a bad thing, actually.

Unknown said...

----------
who is the mvp for first week in division 1 game and division 2 game.

let's guess together
----------

Hmm. Division Two, Id say Sanjeev Khandelwal of Arsenal - the Arsenal/Tigers clash was considered the best one of the week (playoff team of Div2 vs a team that has been Div1 for the past few years)... and Sanjeev got 62 off 62 balls and then took 4/37 as Arsenal demolished the first-division Tigers.

Or else maybe Shakir of Advancers, who played a team Advancers were probably expected to beat, but made a hundred and took 3/15 with the ball as well.

Division One.. Daxx continued his awesome performances from last year, getting 42 and taking 4/29 as Challengers barely beat back Phoenix. Or maybe it was Sameer Raorane of St Louis.. who, in his first MCC game ever I think (Ive never seen the name before, anyway), took 5/10 in 5 overs against AAA!

It could also be Asif of Milwaukee, who batted beautifully in getting 62 not out, and then took 2/25 against Chargers.

However, the most *significant* performance of the week was Wade Allen in Milwaukee, who bowled a very very hostile spell and got 4/17 in 9 overs (with 3 clean bowled). Wade was one of the best fast bowlers in the league a couple of years ago, but has hardly played the last 2 seasons. If he is back fulltime and bowling at his best, and can keep it up for the whole season, it will be very interesting to watch his performances this year.

hari said...

Sadiq, You should we writing this as a feature item. I was starting to wonder were you had gone.

Rup said...

c-wallah, If the go ahead and schedule all these away teams to travel three games the that 8X3=24 games. 1 game less for us already.
Having these teams play amongst themselves will not solve the problem as we will still have to drive all down under.
These teams need to travel like us. have them come and play in chicago land Area. This will also help them to get familiar with the wickets at WP come play off if the make it.
From what i heard so far there are four potential playoff teams in this mix, Peoria, Jolly rovers, Madison, Moline..so If i were these guys I will request the league schedule 3 matches at WP and Hanover Park.
No hard feelings for the other four teams as they can always prove me wrong.

Unknown said...

When is the full schedule going to be put up? It was supposed to be posted by last weekend, then sometime this week, and now its almost the end of the week and still nothing.

If the management is facing some issues with the schedule or teams, they should at least email us to let us know but after a date is committed to, the schedule needs to go up on the site. We all really need to plan out our schedules as well according to the MCC schedule. The season has already began....now what is still causing this delay??????

Unknown said...

i think if u look at over all perfomence i think asif from milwaukee and daxx from challenger should be mvp for division 1.

Guys, can anyone comment on the traffic situation on the Dan Ryan near Washington Park. I plan to take 290 to 90/94 East and exit on Garfield.

We have a couple of new guys in the league. Madhu(from Peoria) told me that they have a very talented kid(boy, I feel old using that word) who has played with Yuvi and Kaif(under 19). There is a new player in United(Gopi) and St louis(Sameer).. both picked up a 5-fer in their very first game.

Can anybody give us more details about these new players.

Alpesh said...

Jaggi ..

Madhu is mentioning about Maninder Bola ... He has played for India Under 15 ... You can search for him in Cricinfo ..

Maninder .. Welcome to MCC ... I hope to see you make big scores here ...

Jaggi said...

Just a quick reminder to all teams to enter not only the scores, but also the match summary.

The MVP system looks for a record in the "Match Summary" database and if it doesnt find one, skips that game.

Rup said...

Nice to see new talents coming in the league. It's always good as it poses new challenge to existing players.
Madhu, hope we get to play you guys in the regular season????
Jaggi,
the travel is not too bad going. Stay on the left lane as you passes down town and it will take you to the x-press lanes. exit on Garfield Blvd. The right lanes will take you through lots of joining traffic from 290 & 55 so you can see some jams. Then again if you can take 290 only you will be fine after you pass the 55 merge or just go to lake shore south and exit on 51st and go west.
coming back i always take state street to down town. then I take left on congress which takes you to all the x-press way and it's all clear from there.

Isn't there a penalty for not entering scores by a specific day of the week?

What I want to know is, how does Alpesh get this sort of information? Bola hasnt played a game in MCC, Alpesh is sitting in Chicago (arent you?)... wtf? :-)

Anyway. Maninder Singh Bola - played for Haryana U15, North Zone U15, India U15 (the famous Lombard World Cup winning U15 side, which had Reetinder Sodhi as captain and Mohd Kaif as vice-captain). Also played for Haryana U19. Righty batsman, left-arm orthodox spin bowler. On looking that up the name was a bit familiar actually - Bola and Ishan Ganda were, IIRC, the spin combination for a very good Haryana U19 side. I believe that same Haryana U19 side had Ajay Ratra (former India keeper) in it too. I'll look it up later tonight hopefully.

Anyway. A year ago, Jamie Alter did a nice little piece for CI called "Lost in Transit", at the 10-year anniversary of the U15 World Cup, with interviews with the players etc. That can be found at:
http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/india/content/story/256937.html

It interviews and follows up on all the team-members, and actually mentions MCC's newest recruit (but claims that he "moved to the US and got involved in football" :-) They had not contended with our Madhew's formidable persuasive powers, bringing him back to cricket :-)

hari said...

C-wallah, Alpesh is actually in Seattle now. We are hoping that he will get a gig in Chicago and move back. NoStars is missing him big time and the blog certainly is missing his camera work. As an FYI, he can give you a run for your money when it comes to quoting cricket stats. He is a living, breathing cricket encyclopedia!

Rup.. thank you for the tips with directions to WP. There is a monetary fine for teams who do not update weekly summary and the scores. I dont think its being implemented at this point.
Alpesh helped out the league last year and also the blog. Lets all hope he gets back to Chi town soon.

Any predictions for major upsets?.
Looks like Div2 has quite a few games this week that will be contested evenly. I don't see any major upsets on the top teams.
Div1, Very interesting week.
I am taking Milwaukee to upset bears. Capitol first game..Satha VS Pak.. I am a gambling man so I say Capitol edges out Pak in a close one. flames upsets Phoenix.
any one knows the odds on Royals to win..It's got to be around 200-1

Raheel said...

How's everyone doing? Good to see the blog alive and kicking! I've just been busy with work and some grad school paperwork, you know how that goes. We're travelling to Satha-land on Sunday - does anyone in Div 2 know of their other (good) players apart from you-know-who?

Raheel,
ICc did not play Capitol so not much help.
although in the Qusters or Semis last year i was watching two of the middle order bats and they look good. one made 75 Satha's performance was so good last year it realy did not leave much room for the rest.
their opening bowlers were not bad either.
Hope this helps.

All,
Standard in MCC has been contantly going up every year infact. New Young players are joing our MCCleague Every year. Last weekend we had chance to see couple young players from Jamaica in action. One them played Jamaic under-19 it seems. Samek Cabby and keeper Gordon Green they kept plugging along with good Collinsville Team (Hardik, HR and rest) Its fantatic to see the taunts and making the game of Cricket every interesting. Yes! Maninder Bola has joined our PCC team and he will in action as long as he is here in Peoria. I personally feel cricket is team sport. Every one on the team should perform and should contribute towards the win. Only few times have I seen a personal brilliance of one person taking over the game. But good 'Teams' will always find a way to WIN! Its good times for MCC! Every one can look forward to great game of Cricket where ever they go. None would be a cake walk for any team! Good luck to all teams..and looking forward for another great MCC season. Cheers all!

I got 3 reasons why Satha should be excited..
1. Season opener
2. Welcome to Division 1
3. Pak are the current champs - I dont know what you are thinking "Fast-n-furious", they were clearly the best team last year...unless you prove it to me..

Guys until we see Pak gets their behind kicked by several teams they are still the team to beat. Look, i busted their chops all last season for different reasons and even did not pick them to the finals much less win it.
they shove it down my ????. they came and took the trophy like it was owed to them.
They are not the role models everyone expects but the play good cricket.

2.Phoenix will get a big upset over Flames.
3.Challegers will crush the royals.
4.St.Louis will win easily over Rogers Park.
5.UCC will win a close one with MUCC.
6.Muslim Gym is going to win a close one over AAA.
7.Milwaukee Cricket Club will really upset Bears.
8.Wildcats will win over Chargers.
Guys these are just the predication. Please don't get upset. If I Offend anyone I am sorry.

It will be interesting to see how last years Division II winner and runner-up perform in Division I. I don't think they'll do as good as Phoenix, Milwaukee United or even Purdue. But we should note that both Phoenix and Milwaukee United added a few good players after making it to Division I. I don't think AAA and Capitol have done so yet.

I hope they prove me wrong.

------

I hear Flames beat Phoenix - Flames batted first and got 200 or so, and Phoenix got about 160 I believe.

And United beat Milwaukee United at Whitewater, by 2 wickets in the last over. Just returned from umpiring that game, from watching one of the most spectacularly brilliant performances Ive seen in ages, by Mehul Shani. After MUCC put up 203, United started blazing and were 17/0 in 2 overs... and then MUCC did their usual, they tightened, they created pressure, their spinners came on and they induced catches etc... and United crumbled to 96/7 in reply and pretty much everyone thought the game was over. But Mehul hung in there, took twos repeatedly, stole strike at the end of overs, sheparded the tail, scored almost all the runs for the next 20 or 30 runs until his partners grew confident. After Snehal fell for an invaluable 24 after partnering Mehul in a match-turning partnership, Dhiraj came in and smacked 16* with 3 fours (United needed 10 off the last over, and made it with Dhiraj hitting 2 fours). Mehul was the immovable rock at one end though - first taking control, then letting his partners flourish, and sheparding them and the team home all the way. From 96/7 United took it all the way to 204/8 and victory, with Mehul remaining 72 not out at the end. A fantastic performance.

Tomorrow has 3 Division One games I think - Pak/Capitol, Challengers/Royals and Wildcats/Chargers.

Meanwhile a huge shock in Div2, with Peoria (now including the heavily touted Maninder Bola, who IIRC took 3/20) going down to defeat to Springfield! Who is this new Springfield guy? Sanjiv Patel - he batted low in the order, and made 51 to take Springfield to 177, and then took 6/24 to bowl them to a victory! Even with only 3 or 4 results known so far, let me be the first to nominate him for MVP of the week :-)

Tango,

Satya has moved out of the greater Milwaukee area late last year and is currently based out of Minneapolis, MN. We expect him to start playing for us MUCC in the MWCC some time mid june.

Justice 4 all,

Right now I am not sure how many of your predictions came true, but one sure did. Dude you should have had probabaly bet on it....UCC did pull out a come from behind nail biter over us MUCC today at Whitewater chasing 204 for victory.

Further details in my match report later....probably in a new discussion board for the weekend of May 12-13.

Well, hats off to UCC. Winning in Milwaukee against MUCC is no joke. After a disappointing season last year, they seemed to have bounced back quiet well so far. I heard they picked up a couple of decent players this year. They were always a very talented side (only team to beat Pak Gymkhana last year), maybe one or two additions will do the trick for them this season.

Sharath from MUCC, please send out a SOS message to Satya before its too late :)

Sanjiv just started living in Springfield this year and is a great addition to Springfield CC. I never met this guy, but talked to Riaz and he mentioned that this guy bowled lights out..

I'm extremely happy for Springfield and second Sanjiv's nomination for MVP. :-)
