Having lost a week ago, AAA comes back to win a sensational game against Collinsville. AAA loosing the tost were assigned to field. The roaring bowling by AAA got Collinsville all out for 91. AAA faced of to bat; and in the second over Imran Taylor was dimissed. He was given a caught behind whihch after the game was proven to be not out. AAA chased the total in 17 overs. Hanif's long balls and Ibrahim's drives lead AAA to a victory.

farhat sheikh has to bat well if they want to win the rest of the matches. he hasn't performed well at all this season and now again against phoenix. being a leader of the team and doing nothing at all. well anywyz good luck to you for next games.

pak gym vs united(night)this will be a game to watch. united will be out of the tournament if they collapse this time.

Big statement by the Wildcats or should I say MILDcats.
If they win out the rest of their games, then their first round opposition is in big, big trouble

Wildcats are a good team and it is surprising that they had this long a slump. But it isnt going to be easy for them rest of the way. They still have Mil United, Pheonix and Flames of which both flames and pheonix are also going to be fighting for playoff spots. Good luck to the 'Mild'cats. I sincerely hope they make it through to the playoffs.

Anonymous said...

All the jousting with Anons this past week probably took a lot out of the Challengers. From the summary it looks like Pak Gym cantered home to victory!!!

Anonymous said...

ppl were suggesting that Pak v Chall would be a high scoring slogfest at Hanover (since its a batting wkt) but looks like Chall were bundled out for 138 and even Pak took 35 overs to chase it down.

Anonymous said...

Satya Kallur takes 7 wickets....bravo!! he's definately proven himself to be one of the top bowlers and all-rounders in the league. I would say he's right up there with Mehul and Shahid.

Anonymous said...

well played Phoenix. keep the up the good work, excellent team work.

Anonymous said...

As of right now the most surprising team in the playoff hunt in division 2 is Lucky XI. They are riding high after bundling out Q.C kings for 130 odd and then the very next game bundling out Deccan Blues for a meagre 128. But the best bowling effort was this week when they bowled out warriors for 80 and then chased the target in only 11.5 overs. The team is looking to win the rest of the games and secure a spot in the top four where they will recieve a first round bye during the playoffs. GOOD LUCK LUCKY XI HOPE YOU GUYS WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP>

I AM ONLY A SUPPORTER OF LUCKY XI AND I DO NOT PLAY FOR THEM. IF ANY COMMENTS PLEASE LET ME NOE
MY NICKNAME WILL BE LUCKY.

Anonymous said...

lucky xi has a long way to go lucky!! the whole team compilation is lacking something. hope they can figure it out soon or else bye bye 2006

In my opinion, Phoenix got very lucky on saturday against Muslim Gym. I think very highly of Muslim's bowling and they scored 260 plus. Then they got some fluke dismissals, or rather loss of concentration from Muslim's batsmen who gave no respect to Phoenix's bowling. Yet Muslim managed to come extremely close. In my opinion, Phoenix got away with one here. Aditya however is an excellent batsman.

Anonymous said...

What happened to Da Bears? They got blown out. Hopefully, that anon guy(I think a team player from Bears, who kept blowing his horn) will stop asking "what about bears" :-). Pak looks extremely good. Not sure if Tushar played, but, he needs to receover quickly, if Challengers needs to go all the way.

Anonymous said...

Why is st. louis playing 40 over games? Hello!!! Last I checked all games should be 45 overs. Last weekend Pak played 40 overs against MUCC. Is somebody from management going to put an end to this dilemma, or is this blog just to post questions and management can choose and select to answer them?

Anonymous said...

Hey Give some respect to the phoenix team. It was a team effort by which they won. Never underestimate any team. They really played good cricket that day. Even against the challengers it was only pheonix who could win, That is called team spirit.
Good work Phoenix. and good luck for all your next games.

Anon 11:23 pm I did play, It's going to be another few weeks before I feel little better. Pak bowled good. Our batting needs to get their act together. We got next five games to do that.

"Muslim's batsmen who gave no respect to Phoenix's bowling"

Or maybe Muslim batsman just thought they had no chance to win the game since Phoenix chobbered them for 260 runs. Comeon guys, no one here is saying Muslim are a bad team, its just that some Muslim players think after winning one or two games that they are unbeatable. I am sure there are some humble guys in the that team like Fawad and Kamran, but some of your players ought to shut up and play better.

I guess Phoenix will take a lucky win as many term than a loss. Whoever mentioned lucky I guess is playing for a team who thinks they are lucky every time they win. On the other hand, Phoenix plays hard and wins. Muslim Gym played very well, just that we got vital break throughs when needed. Muslim Gym came close because they are a good team too. If you want to post comments, think or watch the game before you post stupid comments such as these.

Anonymous said...

Lucky win? I guess the anon person has no clue what happened on Saturday. We won because of team effort. I guess we are in Division 1 for a reason. If you think lucky, fine. I will take a lucky win against a good team than a loss.

Truly said Amish, I guess the person does not know team effort and says anything rubbish, I saw the game and it was a very deserving win for the Phoenix Team. Good team effort and you can pull it thru.

I guess because Milwaukee Cricket Club was late. I will probably let them get away with this one, since they had to travel six hours to play the game. No excuse for Pak Gymkhana, they are always late for games.

Anonymous said...

ANON 10:09. I have no idea s to what you are talking about. Lucky XI are playing the best cricket they have ever played right now and they have one of the best bowling attacks in the league. It is not easy to bowl out a team that scored 400 two weeks before they played Lucky XI for 130 odd runs. I agree their batting needs to get more discipline in it but if their bowling continues what it has been doing for the past 3-4 games and takes it into the playoffs they have a chance of beating any team in division II. By the way what team do you play for? yours truly and LUCKY XI'S NO 1 FAN LUCKY!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Both teams played good cricket, but at the end it was Phoenix. Muslim Gymkhana also have talented batsmen. The key point with Phoenix is that they never loose their nerve and mostly end up snatching the games away. For those who followed their games last year, it was just amazing, one game they chased 75 runs with 0 wickets left. Awesome work guys

Anonymous said...

"chased 75 runs with 0 wickets left."

Didn't know that was possible! If you have 0 wickets left that means you're 10 down - the #11 scored 75 all on his own? Would've loved to see that! ;)

Also...

"No excuse for Pak Gymkhana, they are always late for games."

As they say: better late than never!

-Raheel

Anonymous said...

Raheel,
That means that they were 9 wickets down and they had the last two batsmen in the crease and they managed a 75 runs partnership to win.

hey mr anon or whom ever u r, i know its real easy to talk smack behind your cpu, whatever hatred or comments u have maybe u should say it our faces phenoix played very well and so did we we give respect to most worthy teams and receive respect in return, yes this game was close and we tried but phenoix played better then us and deserve the win. aditya and i personally had a good conversation after the game wishing each other good luck in future so please dont create difference by stating "muslim gave no respect to pheonix bowlers". as far as thinkin we are unbeatable we have never made any statements of that sort nor do we plan to. our goal was to get better then last year and we already have achieved that and we are still in top 8 and we are not even considering playoffs yet if we make it,Its a great accomplishment for us if not we tried yes we all want to win but this is a game not our main life where its all or nothing.

You guys really need a reality check,
If you saw thae way Phoenix team fough till the end without losing thier nerve you would not be saying that they were lucky to win this match.I was there and saw them fight it out, How many of you guys could do that , win against the Challaengers who had not lost any game till this team bowls them out even though they only had 113 on the board, they bundled the challengers out for 112. That itself is a very big acheivement that none of the previous year Div 1 team could not acheive and this game against Muslim gym you should have seen the 1st 5 overs they had 54 runs alreay on the board, that was not lucky that was good batting against the pace of muslim gym attack.Hats of to this team who has come to Div 1 this first year and are at # 4 on the points table.
Good going phoenix, my support is with you.You all need to give credit where it is due. I am not saying that they are the best team but they are not as bad as you guys think they are.Give the team a little respect for thier good performance. Not only the Challengers and the Muslim gym, but this team has also beat St. Louis this year.It is your problem if you go in to play a game underestimating a team because they come from Div 2 to Div 1. This team has a backbone.
Raheel, you take the cake for arrogance. Just because your team is good and at number 1 or 2 on the points table no need to talk bad about other teams, they all give up a whole day just like you to play and enjoy some competetive cricket.

Anonymous said...

MOE Muslim,
I like that. That is what we call team spirit which some teams do have have and are sore losers.

Eagles, which I play for, were doing good 2 weeks back with a 6-2 record. Alas, its now 6-4 with two successive losses to Suburban and MDS. They both played well. While not taking any credit away from those two teams, we dug our own grave by desultory batting, incipient fielding and erratic catching.

We face some more good teams in the next few weeks. We have to put our act together to secure a playoff spot.

Anonymous said...

Where was I being arrogant? By pointing out that you can't chase 75 if there are 0 wickets left?! It's a fact (I was just having some light hearted fun come on - sarcasm is lost on you, what the poster intended to say was that they wer 9 down or had 1 wicket left). It's all good - more power to Phoenix! Roll on.

-R

Anonymous said...

good luck Eagles!! I'm sure you guys will bounce back hard. Just stay focused & hold on to the catches!!!
Samir

Anonymous said...

First, I would like to congratulate Muslim Gymkhana on playing a tough match. I'm glad we won, but this would have been one occasion that even if we had lost I wouldn't have felt so bad because I really enjoyed playing with these guys. They were fun, respectful, played hard, played to win, did not cheat, and were very supportive. Hats off to you guys because it is clear that you have your priorities right, and know how to play the game and the spirit of the game. I wish you all the best for your future games and hope you guys make it to the playoffs and have a good run. I think you can beat most of the teams in Div I.

Second, I would not hold it against any of their batsman if they didn't give our bowlers "respect". Their job is not to give us respect, but to clobber the hell out of us. Same thing our batsman should be doing against them, or any other bowling lineup. So, I wouldn't get upset about giving respect during the game because each team wants to dominate. However, much respect was shared after the game, and that is what is important.

Third, to everyone who thinks that Phoenix has been lucky and got some "fluke" wins. Maybe we did get lucky, or maybe we played good cricket on the day. That is a matter of opinion and each person is entitled to their own. But then, take a look at our losses to United, Tigers, Pak, and Purdue. Maybe that was "UN-lucky" or maybe we just played bad cricket. Again a matter of opinion. Whatever it is, we are at 6 - 4. We are in the playoff hunt, and we are looking foward to every team we have remaining on our schedule. If your theory about "phoenix being lucky" keeps you warm at night, then I say: "DREAM ON"!!

Finally, I hope that we can all take a leaf out of Muslim Gymkhana's book about how to behave on and off the field. Enough said...

Aditya

Ramsundar Lakshminarayanan said...

Phoenix - I think some of the Div 1 players are unable to digest your success, especially being a new entrant. Same thing was said of Purdue last week. That's attitude, for sure. But you guys are showing it on the field, that too very well. A team can win one game because of luck, but not 6 games! Pls disregard all condescending comments.

no wonder he could reach into double figure, sorry i mean 3 digits

Does it matter ow many times a batsman get dropped when he scores some runs?. FYI two times and if you were the fielder you would have dropped both also.
By the way what team you play for?. If we ever play against you i will make sure you get a couple catches fielding close in when i am batting.
Rup

Come on post your name or at leat your team, so I can and will give you guys all the outs to simple sitters dropped.
with that said you will still need the gods to be on your side to beat ICC in the play off's.
you know what the call a guy who walks with his mouth and has no Balls to back it up???. the last census show to have lots of them on Broadway Ave, Chicago.
Hope we get to play you whether it be play-off or Regular season.
FYI. i will ask the league to put a special stat column in the best batsmen stats for dropped catches so you can get those batsmen out first ball when you play them..Dumb as it get i say!!!!
Rup

Anonymous said...

Dropped catches, missed fielding, lack of proper bowling (no line or length) all lead to a loss. A WIN is a WIN no matter "how" you win. Try hard next time is all I got to say for the loosing team. For the winners, be damn proud and enjoy your minutes of fame!! Everyone gets their turn!!! Lets enjoy the game of cricket. Oh well what the hell argue on the field as well, lol j/k.

Anonymous said...

Why are people picking on Rup? He is probably one of the best all rounders in the league even if you consider Div 1 or Div 2.

Probably Anon@3:17 is afraid to put his name for a reason. He will be facing Rup's bowling ( a ball or two before he is bowled ) in the future, it's smart of him not to put his name.

Anonymous said...

Listen, my fingers are still hurting from the stinging half-chance off RUP at short midwicket. A word of advice to the poor shmuck who is daring RUP to give him some close catching practice the next time he faces him in the regular season or playoffs: Make sure you wear a helmet, keeping gloves and ball-guard (DNA in ur case since u got none to protect)!!

Rup played a magnificent innings yesterday to rescue his team from 110/7 all the way till 228/7. And after he got done smashing the ball to all corners of our ground and the surrounding grounds in WP, he went on to smash the stumps of half our batting lineup (with Jack taking care of the other half :)).

Guys, give credit where credit is due. Whatever the conditions were, whoever the opposition is (be it Division 2 or 1), Rup has been dazzling many with the bat and the ball for many years. You would be crazy to instigate Rup, so keep your mouth shut for now and only speak if and when you defeat ICC this year, cos Rup isnt the only matchwinner on this year's ICC team.

ICC and AAA are the best teams in Division Two. Rup is the best player in Division Two. He has the most wickets and almost the most runs. Playing in the league for years, RUP is playing excellent. His team efforts and motivation is leading ICC to one of it's best seasons. So watch for ICC and AAA because they might be the preview for the Division Two Finals. Rup and ICC best luck to you guys and we will see you in the Playoffs. BEST OF LUCK.

Vipul Patel said...

Rup,

I am not sure why even spent some time to drop a word for people who do not have any clue what they are talking about!!!
Only word I have for you is STOP hitting the ball in the ground where we were playing (we were at WP 4 ground)!!!

See you in the Night Game on 9th.

Thanks
Vipul

Anonymous said...

I guess RUP's innings yesterday showed what he is made of. Out of 111* runs, he had just 50 runs coming in boundaries which means he has played some clever and good cricket and not just bang bang, NOT to forget shielding the other batsmen. And to add icing on the cake was his swing bowling. Hats off RUP and Illinois Cricket Club.Keep it going.Someday would like to learn the art of swing bowling from you.

May be Division 1 and division 2 are like International cricket and first class cricket? The cream moves to the top and becomes successful just like Phoenix is. I respect players from both divisions. There are some excellent players in Division 2 and there are some horrible players in Div 1.
Cricket is gentlemens' game and would be nice if this blog would reflect that (which at the moment it does not!)

Sadiq Bhai,
You seem to have good observation and knowledge about cricket, and after umpiring for the last cple of years in both divisions:

1. How do you compare the two divisions
2. Who do you think are some of the outstanding bowlers and batsmen of Division 1 and 2.

Juggi Bhai,
May be we should have two blogs, one for division 1 and one for division 2 so everybody can mind their own business.

We dont have the best team in the leauge nor we claim to be. Yes we have talented palyers and this year with FOUR centuries two maidens so look at those stats and cry all u want too cuz u are not capable of making it. our "cricket lover" fiend is @#$%ed in the head. Go Kamran!!!!

Anonymous said...

I have had a chance to see him bat and bowl once this season against Royals.
Kamran is a good player. no doubt. He is an alrounder by his stats but in order for peer recognition as one of the top alrounders in MCC he has got to bring the #s up.
his batting avg has got to be around 40 and bowling around 12.0 with an econ of around 3.25

If he focus on his batting a little more he can help his team at lot come play off. I think his bowling is what causing some of the lack of recognition cause he does not seem to be that impact type bowler. Most of his wickets are lower middle or tail end. Players seem to recognize bowlers more who can take early wickets. He has opened the ball several times with little luck on the front line batsmen.
There are quite a few excelent alrounders in this leauge and I feel if Kamran make a few adjustments he will be in that class soon.
Once the #s come up i feel MCC will definitley look to him as one of the "Golden Fish" in the MCC pond.
all the best and good luck Kamran.

Letting Magnus continue to Umpire for Evanston games this way would be like letting me (Ren the doc filmmaker friend of the Giants) Umpire at Giants games. There is an obvious conflict of interest, even if he doesn't intend for it to be malicious he is NOT by any means impartial. This was very clear and the Giants tried to keep a cool head for the most part until things got worse and worse and more obvious. Evanston was bowling beautifully but a wide is a wide, and letting so many by is not fair. also the close "4's" that no one could agree on were quickly granted to Evanston but when the obvious reverse happened he didn't bat an eyelid and continued on. Of course he is so well respected at MCC that we're all suposed to sit and take it, until the last LBW on Yasin was called about a mile above his waist as he jumped up and it hit his glove. I'm still relatively new to Cricket but as far as I know hitting the glove so high up does not indicate an LBW especially as it's headed up and out from the leg stump. As an American, this usually eludes me, but it was so high and so obvious to all that everyone was simply awed at this call and both batsmen immediately left the field. After many bad calls that had to be swallowed out of respect for a longtime Umpire this was clearly crossing the line and NOT a case of sore losers. Too much is too much. All of us stood by thier decision to leave and I think it would be a sore spot on this league if no further action is taken by anyone (Rematch with new umpire? Repremand to the Umpire? Tariq? Shashi? Anyone?) I know there are some hot tempers on the Giants and it's true they haven't played a great season this year, but no team deserves that kind of blatant disrespect (not to mention some of the way out of line heckling from Evanston) This is not American College football.

Magnus is a great guy and he has done a lot for this league. We all love and respect him a lot. But, what was he doing umpiring in a game involving his own team??? Why did he agree to that??? Why did Giants agree to that????

For all new comers, brush of history here...

Northshore criket club played Milwuakee United(then a div 2 team) in a Div 2 game in 2002. In that game, they dropped down from 90 odd runs for 3 wkts to 90 odd runs for 6 wkts in the space of one over. They got an LBW decision which they protested and walked out of the game. Milwaukee United happily took 4 points. They cut the umpires car tires on their way out. That resulted in Milwaukee United and the umpire lodging a complaint (even a police report) with the league. The League banned Northshore cricket club in 2002 and did not allow it to play any more games after that. Come next year 2003, guess what happened ? Northshore cricket club changed its name to Chicago Giants.
Now it comes back to square 1, doesnt it?
Chicago Giants walked out another game with Evanston protesting LBW decisions..?
didnt you guys just hear this story somewhere? :-)
Thats nothing new to them...name changed but same characters !!!

Heres the link to that game score card

What happened to the midwest conference news letter? Since it was started there were 5 volumes rolled out then it got lost.... Will it be back this year?
--------------

The Newsletter actually became this blog. We wanted a format where we can have more people participating. Also, the format we had last year was a lot of work, especially with the deadlines and all that. There were days when I was sitting up at 1.00 AM and proof reading articles and formatting text! I'm sure Sadiq, Jaggi, Athreya and Zafer Bhai have more stories. So, over the winter we tested this format and did the switch. Hope you guys like this format. So far the feedback has been good. Believe me, we listen to all suggestions and appreciate all the support very much.

To the coward anon at 6:28pm:
First of all, if you yap about something then don't be a sissy about it and at least have guts to put your name in there.
Secondly, our main issue is with the league which didn't provide us with an umpire for the third game this season.
FYI (yellow bird), this is a totally different team and absolutely different circumstances. Nobody started a fight, we just came out of the ground and called Tariq. We requested if we could start this match with another umpire, which he agreed but Evanston guys didn't want that to happen.
This Chicago Giants team is a totally different team and it's absolutely unfair to the Giants to label us as a fighting team (which your blog suggested).
I was there when the tires incident happened but it wasn't as bad as the recent incidents in the league (Deccan Blues fight etc. ), at least no person was harmed. We threw out our three players who were responsible for that particular incident. We started as a new team and new players.
First understand the situation and then make your comment. We didn't want to play this game without the neutral umpire but the league official litterally made us do that.
Now you be the judge and tell us, where have our umpires been?

Next time put your name under the blog.

Rup; i think this is the same guy, who started the catch bull crap as well.

nice..so you can slash someones tires without doing any harm to the person...thats ok right?
nice one.

I did not know that one.

This really makes sense. I did not know that, but of all the teams in both the divisiosn why only your team did it twice in 4 years for similar reasons. Must be something with the psyche!

The league puts out strict rules for teams. Teams should not harm or argue with the umpire. The league should take action and players shall be suspended for arguing with umpire. Chicago Giants have a camera man and they should have caught everything on tape. The league should review their tape.

thanks guys for letting me know the wicket type of Comm park.

If a visiting team at any point in time feel their safety is bieng compromised by continuing to play the game the have the right to walk off and protest the game. This is true for all sports.

Why not give the league a change to investigate this and make a decision on facts.
i don't think any of us were at the game so busting up the giants because they walk off is not what i will do. they have given us their side lets wait on the other,

If we let the past dictate our present feelings then our future is all ?????? up.

how about the game between superstart of Div 1 and Div2. I would really like to see that.

The big question would be who will captain each side? Any good suggestions? I think Shahid would be a good candidate for Div 1. How about Division 2? Any comments?

Anonymous said...

This superstar game needs to be arranged.
I say we need to have two matches a season. One midway and one towards the end of the regular season.
This will allow for the best players at that point to be selected which means there will be changes to the side.
this will also be a good tool for Midwest CC to select a good team based on #s from these games to represent us in tournaments??.

Yeah I think thats a good idea RUP, i guess the only thing in that case will be that both team needs to practise a lot(separately) to get to know each other well and work a chemistry between them.

i have all the respect in the world for shahid, he is one damm good allrounder, everybody knows that, but i dont believe that the best player can be an excellent captain. Shahid is an awesome player but just to make him a captain on that basis wont be the right thing to do. you can see an example of this in many international teams

Anonymous said...

I guess my choices would be RUP(1st choice),LakshmiKumar.
Preferable to have all rounders as captains.

Anonymous said...

ANON 11:12AM, i beleive you are right in regards to the captain selection, for the players chosen to play in the all star game, i believe there can be two options for the selection, the first what rup suggested, that we go look at the stats at the time of the game and choose the best 11, or we can have a poll for every postion on both teams, and this way nobody argues to who was selected and for what reason, as it is a voting process and the one being selected is the desired one by the players themselves. I hope
that Jaggi mentions this to MCC and MCC takes steps to organize this game. It will definetly be a crown puller.

I would love to see a Pak and Muslim final that would be a good game, and if either kamran or Imran can get on a roll, then i believe muslim has a good chance to win it. But yes starting of Pak would be the favorites..

Challangers are a good team, but there batsman are orthodox players, they don’t slog, whereas in muslim and pak you would hardly find orthodox playing batsman except a few exceptions, and lets face it 20/20 is a game for the hitters

How about the grounds at washington park?. Last week they were beautiful. Nicely cut and the ball was moving on the ground compared to the week before?. This week we will see the ball fly around due to the heat. Good luck bowlers. If we can get the Park district to use some weed killers the will be much better looking?.

Seems like we have some problems at Heritage park. Looks like until it becomes a forest it does not get cut.
How many other ground are out there not properly cut?.
I wonder if we have any one in MCC responsible for looking into the grounds and making sure they are cut frequently?.
hope this is something to talk about?.

Rup, I surely agree with you that we should look at making our grounds better. It's a wonderful experience to play on nice well cut green grounds like they have in Southern California. I know we cannot have wickets like they do in LA because they will be too expensive to maintian (as Sadiq pointed out earlier). But I would hope that Midwest can take the initiative to afford well cut grounds during the season instead of making us play on "forest looking" grounds?
Unfortunately people here on this blong usually dont talk about what improvements can be made and do not look at ways to raise the standards of cricket in our league...because some of these 'anons' enjoy too much calling each other names behind the screens of computer!

Aditya,
Challengers and Purdue game will be a lot closer than people expect. Challengers are certainly the better team, but right now they aren't playing all that well. Purdue is also playing at home so its an added advantage. But I think the Challengers will be a lot more careful and won't throw away this one. Purdue is an unknown team to the Midwest, but I think they have one of the leagues most explosive bowling attacks. Good variety of pace and spin. But their batting is pretty bad. Challengers on the other hand have an explosive batting and bowling lineup and that is why I think they will win.

End of over 49 - Zimbabwe 220/7 (17 runs required from 6 balls)

49.6 5 runs required. Mashrafe Mortaza to Taylor, SIX, full toss, Taylor hits it high and over the midwicket fence for maximum and the crowd goes crazy...

Anonymous said...

Anon 8:40,

You are probably correct in most of what you said, but I wouldn't dismiss Purdue's batting capability to lightly. They didn't win Division II on their bowling and fielding capabilities alone! And they haven't won 5 games without putting up some good scores. That too against some pretty good bowling attacks. Just my 2 cents on that comment of yours.

Generally the better teams win the games they are expected to, but their are intangibles in cricket that can affect the outcome. Normally I would expect the Challengers to win. They are one of the best teams until otherwise proven. However, there is no pressure on Purdue since they are the underdogs. But there is a lot more pressure on the Challengers, specially with the 2 recent losses and all the scrutiny and comments. Noone expected them to lose to us, and fortunately for us they did, so, who knows?

This of course is no knock against the Challengers who are a very good team.

There are some very good games this weekend. Most interesting game should be the Bears vs United CC. If UCC loose they are out. Bears are a very good team and have bad day against Milwaukee United. But I think they will bounce back and win this one.
One question for United CC. Is Girish Kamthe going to be playing? last time he played, he ripped apart the Pak Gymkhana top order and handed them their first loss of the season.

Anonymous said...

Yes, United brought in 3-4 new guys into their team and are on the verge or getting knocked out. Other than Mehul Shani, all their other old players SUCK.

About the game between super stars of Div 1 and Div 2. We can look at the team sent to LA for reference. If Mehul/Raheel or Nasir (any combination) open the bowling with Shahid and Nilesh coming in as first change. Then having spinners like Subbha/Asif/Bhavneet. Then have batsmen like Sohail Alvi, Imran Syed, Mahesh/Tushar, Shahid Munir, Adnan/ Faisal Baig, Adnan Mobeen as Wicket Keeper batsman.

With Sohail as Captain of Division 1, do people think that Division 2 can make a team that can face this Div1 bowling attack and get all these batsmen out?

with due respect to your selection and the players you picked, I'm disappointed in you not mentioning Satish reddy as an allrounder. Satish has performed consistently with bat and ball for 8 seasons now. Granted the wilcats dont have a lot of so-called 'star' players but IMHO Ajit and vikram have done a lot in the past to merit their selection. Now it is true that they are not in the best of form currently but there's something to be said about real talent and determination. I am sure Kiran and Ajit are just one or two innings away from being in here, but it would seem unfair if they were picked over some of the other high scoring batsman)

Sohail Alvi
Kamran Khan

their should be nominations for each postion on both sides and have a poll to decide the best 11, have like a number of batsman and bowlers from each side nominated from each team, by their captains or permanent umpires, and then have an open poll, say there were a total of 11 batsman nominated for DIV I, and if only 5 batsman are required, the top 5 vote getters in the poll be chosen for the team, do the same for the bowling and keepers spot, and consequently we will have less argument on this blog regarding the team chosen, like we did for the LA Open.

Raheel has a lot of variety, swing and pace the only thing he lacks is control over his line length and his temper.

Shahid has most of the basics, pace, movement and intelligence. Never seen him bowl good yorkers and has problem with giving extras.

Mehul is very comprehensive with almost perfect slow ball but lacks pace of Shahid and Raheel.

Nasir has decent pace and line length with movement of the ball but lacks variety. He is hard to hit but unsuccessful at getting wickets.

Yosaf from flames, he is intelligent, has control, swing but due to his age and lack of speed gets beaten quite often but is always successful at taking wicks.

Nilesh is very good, has variety, decent pace, yorkers and excellent cutter of the ball.

Sanjay and Satish, I havent seen too many of their games to make a conclusion about them.

I'd like to add that I've stopped bowling every delivery at full pace (Shahid's advice) and bowl at around 85%, with an occasional effort ball, well as a result so far I've picked up more wickets than in preceeding seasons. As for the long runup - that I can't change, the shorter one doesn't work for me (I've tried in nets, can't seem to build rhythm).

I once heard Ian Chappel say that pace is an asset but if you don't direct it properly it could be your worst enemy (I guess that explains my almost 5 rpo econ rate!).

Also what do you guys think about Rashid bhai, he may not be the quickest anymore, but I have never seen anyone bowl so many accurate yorkers at will! In his 5/23 vs Challengers, 3 were clean bowled on yorkers.
