wat happened int he rogers park vs. rivercity match?

Anonymous said...

Bears lost again, their playoffs are suddenly doubtful.

MUCC won again. Let's see how they do in Washington Park. Historically they always loose in the fast Washington Park pitches. Let's see if the new additions in the team make a difference.

Want to know why Pak Gym gave a walkover.

Purdue is a strong team. I hope they make it to the playoffs. I like their brand of cricket.

Anonymous said...

Pak Gym gave a walk over becuz they were scared of loosing to St. louis!

Anonymous said...

Want to know why Pak Gym gave a walkover.
why? do tell.

Anonymous said...

WHY DID PAK GIVE THAT TEAM A WALK OVER. St. Louis sucks! Where is Raheel when you need him. I demand to know why St. Louis was given a stupid walk over.

Anonymous said...

ya, st. louis got lucky. this would have been a piece of cake victory for pak gym but they decided not to play.
this has made the playoff race all the more interesting.

Anonymous said...

rogers park lost to rivercity.purdue cc scored 211 against challengers.

Anonymous said...

Illinois Cricket Club had an authoritative win over Eagles. ICC scored 271 batting first (nobody scored over 50!) and then got the Eagles out for 140 or so.

Comm Park, Naperville is a beautiful ground. Congrats to Eagles for obtaining such a good ground!!

Cheers!
Shekhar Viswanath - ICC

according to the rules pak gym should get -4 points for giving a walkover!!! can league officials please confirm this.

Anonymous said...

You are actually supposed to lose 2 points if you give a walkover.

On another issue, how come Challangers never entered their scorecard against Pak Gymkhana? I hope they were subject to the same fine that every other team in this league is supposed to pay when they don't enter their scores by end of day Tuesday. (this is directed at MCC and not directly at the Challengers).

Raheel said...

3 players were unavailable including the wicketkeeper and I had a shoulder niggle - it didn't make sense to drive 10 hrs in a day and play for potentially 7! So we informed St Louis one day in advance that we won't be coming over, which I believe does not incur a 4 points penalty!

Anonymous said...

it's suppose to be a 48 hr notice, actually!

Anonymous said...

FYI,

"13.4. Any club intending to miss the game must inform the opposing captain and the League, at least 48 hours in advance to avoid any penalties."

16.1. Points will be awarded as follows:

Win
4 (Four) Points

Walk-over Received
4 (Four) Points (to the team receiving the walkover)

Tie
3 (Three) Points to each team

Loss
0 (Zero) Points

Walk Over Given
0 (Zero) Points (to the team failing to show up)

- MCC Ground Rules.

Anonymous said...

In the past, it used to be that the team giving the walkover had to lose 2 points off their points total if they didn't give at least a 48 hours notice.

As usual, it looks the MCC executive committee decided to change this rule (which was originally agreed upon by the majority of the teams) to the new version of the team giving the walk-over to NOT LOSE 2 POINTS. What I mean by "as usual" is that they seem to decide on this rule by themselves and not put it up for vote by the teams playing in this league. I thought this was a league that the Teams voted on the ground rules and the executive committee is supposed to enforce these rules.

Anonymous said...

when did this rule change? it has always been -2 points. we are playing div I cricket are we not?
this has got favortism written all over it! you scratch my back i scratch yours.

Anonymous said...

Exactly....no one pays attention to this rule because most of the time the team that gives the walkover is a team that is almost never in playoff contention. So this rule could have been changed a while back without the knowledge or announcement to all the teams.

This isn't even a case of "you scratch my back I scratch yours" cos the MCC management has nothing to gain out of this. But as always this is just another example of FAVORITISM especially when it comes to a team thats been in the league for long, for example PAK GYM in this case.

I am sick of the few teams or individuals that are always "above" the common laws that the rest of the league has to abide by.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Satha continues his plundering of the Div II bowlers.... yet another century (150*). Damn.......this guy is a monster. :)

Good luck to those bowlers and teams who have yet to face him this regular season or playoffs.

Anonymous said...

Hi guys. I am the ugly chuckling. I feel there are many chucklings in this league. I was wondering if anyone can help me find them.
AND ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
I know one on the top of my head. Think he goes by the name Mohd. Chuckshi.
Any additions?
Please do visit my website: www.ghun-chucker.com
Appreciate it/

Raheel said...

I actually don't know exactly when the walkover-talk took place between the 2 captains (Pak Gym - St Louis), I should've said that I was informed roughly 1 day before that we won't be going. And the MCC rules say there is no penalty for awarding a walkover so how is that favoritism?!

Anonymous said...

not showing up for a game is not very sportsman like, would not agree?

Anonymous said...

y are few players allowed to play ACC leauge bakshi of pak and adnaan of rogers park are playing consistently ? and i am sure there are more. what is the mgmt waiting for we have the right to play there players in our matches or go play in there leuage. this is bs, we can give special permission to them y? y isn't there anyone talkin about this? i hope no one should stop us from playing in the other leauge or vice versa i would like to hear jaggi comments on this ?

well shiraz is appointed as night pres. and pak is in tight with tariq. and ofcourse flames own players play acc.
but if you are from somewhere else then look out for suspension.
btw what happened with purdue/challenger?

Anonymous said...

I agree with MOE that strict action should be taken against players who are violating the rules by playing in ACC! Somebody needs to list all the names which are playing in ACC (perhaps by staying Anon).

Why are people making a big deal about pak giving a walk over to Stl? Three of their players couldnt travel this weekend like raheel said so they decided to give walk over. I dont think they were really scared of losing to STL after they had an easy win over tough team like Challengers!

Anonymous said...

cause it has a huge impact on playoff outlook!

Anonymous said...

i am not against any players playing acc, i believe we all love the game so we want to play every oppurtunity we get, but if midwest has rules they should be held for all players not favorites. this is a perfect example of back home politics and i am not sure y there is nothing being done about it since our leauge has enough evidence against them and in past one letter was accepted for there mistake, however i dont think that should suffice for repetivite actions either midwest allows all its players to play where ever they like or not allow acc players to play or vice versa

Any update on Challengers-Purdue game..

We need to bring back 'Negative 2 points rule' for teams that give walkover. Currenly, teams do not have nothin to loose when they give walkover. If you can see in both Div-I and Div-II both of the bottom that fighting for play off positions, its a grave injustice to them for no fault of there's. When there is so much competition and most bottom have same points and play so hard to scratch out wins. And few teams just give walkover because they cannot make it. Its unsportsman like. Management we need to take a vote and bring back the rule back? We need make 'walk over' giving teams held accountable. They don't have players then swallow of loss of points and team that are playing through their season going miles and miles to play should not penalised. No one was ever informed that the rule was take out of MCC books. Atleast until I read this blog I was understanding that rule is still in place. Can any MCC management post a comment please?

Anonymous said...

"We need to bring back 'Negative 2 points rule'... "

I agree with the post because not only its wrong on a ethical level but also financial as we all are paying our hard earned to play JUST 14 games a season. Not everyone gets a chance to play cricket through the season and finally when you do get a chance an arrogant team like Pak Gym just doesn't show up. I think MCC should award another game to STL.

Anonymous said...

could someone post the names of players who are playing in ACC.

Anonymous said...

Raheel and Pak gymkhana....any chance that any body can get to bring them to dirt is never wasted!

can somebody provide a list of all the players which are currently playing in ACC?

Anonymous said...

why does everybody hate pak gym so much?
I know they talk a lot on the field but that's part of the game, if you are good you have the right to talk like the aussies.
so lets just stop hating and try to be as good as them.

Anonymous said...

pak is not the champions, so they cant be compared to aussie by no means. Plus i have proof they use to bribe there umpires in past by paying him money on the side. All u pak players know who u guys paid and u know he is umpired most of ur games this season. ENOUGH SAID!!!

Anonymous said...

parenthetically speaking, everyone loves to see a good team fall hard on their proverbial faces. but pak is very arrogant, just see raheels comments on certain subjects. always an excuse for everthing.

Anonymous said...

These allegations above are pretty serious..? If there is proof that teams or players indulged in such activities MCC management should seriously look into. There are teams in this league..that give sweat and blood to play hard and win....If these allegations are true..then teams who indulge in such activities should be banned..to set example..for rest of the league follow..

Anonymous said...

Where is Raheel today? I am looking forward to hear his side on this (especially paying money to umpires and his comment about pak players playing in ACC).

where is that blogger from Rogers park, what does he has to say about his team mates playing from ACC?

Still no update on:
1. Purdue-challenger
2. list of black sheeps (i.e. people playing in ACC)

Anonymous said...

all in all this blog is a crying gound for Pak Gym, Bears, Rogers Park and, ofcourse, Muslim Gym (esp. moe)....
Players from these teams need to look into their lives and find something constructive to do instead of BITCHING about things n people.

Anonymous said...

if the leauge will take serious actions. i will give u the proof otherwise its a waist, bucz pak are leauge eldest team, as we all know it. What is the leauge going to do? take there wins away? i would like to know what fines will there be given suspension of ther players or banning them from the leauge or what give me an example? i know the leauge has been improved alot over the past years. Yet there is room for plenty more!!! Raheel compared themselves to aussies, hahaha learn to play fair my friend then u will earn respect of OTHERS and then u will be considered a TRUE CHAMP

Anonymous said...

MR anon something contructive. How about a name for start did u parents give u one or u still "IT"
You dont have the balls to show ur identity. What i said is true and if it hurts tough luck i am sure u are one of those players who might be affected by my comments.

muslim gymkhana and playoffs...

hahhahahahaahahah

They think they are the best and they have so much respect for umpires that no umpire wants that much respect and as a result, no one is willing to umpire their games.
They have this tendency to blame others for each of their failures. may be they think that international umpires should do their umpring.

i was so wrong to think so bad abt pak where infact muslim gymkhana is a bad team.

Anonymous said...

M bakhshi never played there. may be you are not good enough to play there.

Cmmon stop acting like grls and play ur league. Losers act like this the way you are doing.

i am sure if u c0oncentrate on ur game, it will improve rather than talking behind others and anyways u r not authiority so keep ur mouth shut

people like u are bad fro game

Anonymous said...

Anony feature is good..Discussion is valid...Let all use it construtively..bring forth issues like double stardards for players playing in ACC and MCC..also 'bribing umpire issue' and walk over issues..let stick to these..and hammer out to resolve..them..common guys..we can all stay on track..

Anonymous said...

comeon, stop the pak gym bashing and find something new to talk about.
this is coming frm someone who doesnt play for pak gym!

Jaggi said...

The league exclusitivity rule definitely is in place. Adnan(Rogers Park) and Ankur(Flames)were both warned and both players have given us a written apology for the same. If they are found playing in ACC again, they will not be allowed to play in MCC.

Moe, I can guarantee you that there is no partiality to any player. We simply do not have the resources at this point to keep track of who is playing in ACC.
We got some credible information from some of the players, pursued the same and found that the above two players did indeed play. The same procedure will continue. If any of you have any information, please email it to management@midwestcricket.org.
Bottomline: Anybody who violates this rule will definitely be penalised.

Jaggi said...

"We need to bring back 'Negative 2 points rule'... "

At the AGM, all teams were given a copy of the ground rules that the rules committee came up with. We had requested all teams to go through the rules and let us know if there were any discrepancies. I dont see how the management can gain anything by this rule.
I strongly suggest that teams write down a list of issues they have, so that we can talk it out during the off-season/AGM.

Anonymous said...

purdue/challengers?

Anonymous said...

purdue - 211
challengers - 212-8, won, close game

Anonymous said...

Hi Jaggi,
I do not agree with the negative 2 point rule. Any team and i mean ANY TEAM can have all kinds of reason which can make them miss a game (medical, family anything could happen!). Would it make sense to get penalized for something thats not in your control? Just like somebody said earlier, that we pay hard earned money to play 14 games. Who would wana give a walk over to another team on purpose and waist their hard earned money?

This isnt sthng that happened for the first time...but i guess since pak is involved, it becomes a huge issue!

Anonymous said...

thanks a lot! buddy.
it was killing me.

Anonymous said...

it has become a huge issue bcause it has monumental playoff implication. stop being paranoid.

Anonymous said...

Jaggi,
Not every in team will have a 'medical emergency' nor every one in team will have 'accidents at one time' When team cannot play a scheduled MCC game its tough luck. I have seen teams play with 8 palyers before. At least MCC has reschedule rule where team can reschedule a game if there is 'real emergency or accidents'. But team cannot play then they should held liable not penalize rest of the teams in group who fighting for points. I am sure MCC will not have any problem about reschedule as long as they are in 'permissable limits' meaning acceptable to the home team. I am sure no home team will say no to reschedule if there is genuine reason. They can play two games in weekend or something. I am not here to discuss what MCC management should do but wanted to make sure teams are 'held accountable' for giving a walkover. 'negative 2 points'

Anonymous said...

i am new to this blog world and surely understand one thing - "everyone hates pak gym", any reasons why, an old saying - 'there is no smoke without fire'. i have heard they r bad loosers, but why this hatred? also, half the challenger teams r chuckers, why is only bukshi singled out.

Raheel said...

About this "bribing the umpire" if you have any evidence, by all means go to the management about it otherwise shut up! Baseless allegations! No team has complained about Joe Greene being partial to us in any match so far, where do you get this idea from?! Hiding behind an anonymous id and slinging mud at others is equally unethical (like bribing).

As for the walkover, we informed the opposition well in advance and had 3 players missing including the wicketkeeper, does it make sense to travel 10 hrs on the road with no wicketkeeper and 8 players to play in 93 F heat? It didn't to us.

Anonymous said...

If a team cannot make it for a game, they are supposed to make the decision about giving a walkover at least 48 hours to avoid a penalty. They should be able to update this on the website more than 48 hours before their scheduled game (new site feature that needs to be added).

Secondly, losing 2 points only affects teams that are in the playoff hunt. This happens very rarely where a playoff bound team actually gives a walkover. In most cases its the teams that have no hope of making it to the playoffs that end up giving walkovers especially to those "AWAY" teams. I personally think that not only do we subtract 2 points for a team giving a walkover, we should also place a fine of $75-$100 on the team. This would at least slightly discourage these teams from giving a walkover as everyone knows that this has a huge impact on the other playoff bound teams' chances because their NRR does not change due to the walkover.

And as someone has already mentioned in this blog, we all pay a lot of money to be able to play 14 games, so its not fair when we lose the opportunity to play games that are given as walkovers. This mostly applies to teams that have given up halfway through the season, when they start to give a lot more walkovers cos they dont feel like playing anymore. We have to increase the monetary fine for each successive walkover given. If this team intends on playing in this league, it would have to be forced to pay these fines. And after a team has given up more than 3 walkovers in a season, IMHO they should not be allowed to come back play in the league the following year.

Anonymous said...

How about not schedulling a game for almost whole month. Check out Flames schedule. B'coz one player is in India, you can choose to avoid schedulling a game for one entire month and then play back-to-back? Is it really a team game or A ONE MAN SHOW?

Anonymous said...

we all know that the only good player in Flames is Kiran and I guess they know that as well. Hence they didnt wana play any games without him.

Raheel said...

Well if the schedule allows, we would definitely like to play St Louis, we don't enjoy gifting 4 points to someone - if the scheduling committee can manage it then ok let's play and better manage our money!

Anonymous said...

again...the scheduling committee or rather Krishna Kurup decides who is playing what game and when. He will only entertain rescheduling requests based on how well he knows you. If he doesn't know you, don't bother asking for a rescheduled match cos thats when he will enforce the rule that "no matches will be rescheduled unless there is a death in the family". Which is a bunch of BS! Teams always keep asking for reschedules all the team for the simple reasons that their key players are not available. And this mostly happens with teams in Division 1.

Anonymous said...

Go ahead Raheel, just give Krishna Kurup a call...since you guys are the "almighty" Pak Gymkhana of course you might just be able to convince him to reschedule your match. But keep in mind that STL team has the VP on their side, so maybe his authority might trump the Scheduling Committee's authority. :P

Guys,
We have talked about best batsmen, bowlers even best slip fielder. Curious to see who you guys think were/are good captains (past and present). Rating should include all aspects of the game.
- Results .. win loss record
- Strategy .. innovative thinking
- Leadership .. bringing the best out of team mates , reviving a team after a bad season.

Any thoughts??

Anonymous said...

This where we all should get to gether and discuss these issues..so many issues racked up from the dust. Skeletons fallingoff the cupboards. Everyone who reading this blog and MCC member should give in their 2 cents about issues that are brought up. This pretty serious stuff which effects most teams. Here we have hard playing teams like wildcats (Kudos to Nikhil I know how hurtful it is tearing a webbing is) though last year champs showing resilience this season as to why to why they 'are' and 'were' champions on other side we teams who do not follow the MCC conventional rules (not having a game for one month wow!) we all need to look into this weed the bad issues only then MCC will become a profession. Kudos to all who participate and give in their 2 cents CUZ YOU CARE ABOUT CRICKET..Lets keep it rolling guys..Nice dicussion

Somebody mentioned organizing a match between Pakistani and Indian players of Midwest few days ago.

I think it will be an excellent game and will draw a lot of crowd. And would be fun to see the final playing XI. So many good players on both sides....

Sadiq Yusuf is probably the best-equipped person to answer the best captain question.

Sadiq Bhai .. what do you say?

Anonymous said...

Thanks Adnan for allowing this. To anon @ 11:34 a.m.

Anonymous said...

Here is my personal take what I have seen
Spin: Satish Reddy (wildcats) compact defence and placeing the ball in the gaps
Fast: Kiran Kambampati (Flames) any width on off side gone to point region for he was devastating last year. Sohail Alvi, great drives on and off

Anonymous said...

I think, its not a good idea having teams represent a Nation play with each other. We have great players in this league from other countries too who would like play. Satha/Todd will miss out if it were to be India/Pakistan game. We should have a game this season if possible..Best of Div-1 and Div-II ..Its a great idea. This way we get to meet every one and bring both divisions lot closer and release some of the misunderstanding and misconceptions..let know some high flying dudes that Cricket is all about basics. Who ever does em right will WIN on any given day wether they are DIV-I or DIV-II..

Hello People
This is my first post in the MCC blogs and the reason was that I really wanted to mention a name who deserved recognition, but not heard it from anyone (including saadiq bhai :)) and the guy is one called Ashwin Ravindran from Purdue. This guy fits in to the best batsmens list and also a fine captain in terms of innovative ideas, bringing the best out his team and leadership which shows in the results. He is probably one of the compact bats I have played with and his concentration and stamina are praiseworthy.

as far as the matter of players playing in ACC is concerned, honestly i beleive the players should have the right to play any league(s) but if MCC has in its rules that no MCC player can play in a second league, then the rule should be followed, whoever is not following should be punished heavily

As most of the blogers are saying, the penalties for walk overs must be enforced once the rule has been violated.
I hate beating up on any one but the most successful in this world today, always have a back up plan.
I hate walk overs cause not only does it give free points it leaves a whole bunch of thinking brains thinking??. Espicially when the playoff positions are up for Grabs.
Raheel, you have 14 players on your rooster. You said 3 could not go that leaves 11??. Are you going to play without a keeper in the playoffs if your current one is out??. You have got to have the guts to play with what you have on any give day thinking you still got a chance to win!!.
Pak Gym if fighting to stay the premier team in Div one then we need Premier Responsiblities??.
Two weeks ago ICC gainst tigers. Two good player, 4 so-so. and five guys that could out in 5 balls including a 72 year old/Bobby Nanan. We went from 98/2 to 110/7 all within 3 overs then to 228/7 at the end of 40 overs.
The reason i mentioned this game is because ICC is one of the premier Team in DIV II and I can't afford for anyone one beating up ICC reputation as they are doing to Pak for giving a Walkover.
An old village guy told me once "alway thinks of the consequences of your Actions".
I don't believe in granting favors no matter the scenario so i say strict enforcement of the rules at all times!!!!!.
My take.

Hopefully at the end of the season we can bring a closure to all the issue we discussed here.through vote of members..and pretty sure.lots of MCC members are following this will give fair amount of material to make choices to vote on rules for MCC. So, stop stop wasting blog space.

pissed cricketer,
this is what this forum is exactly for, there are some great ideas being thrown around and what fair is fair, it goes both ways. jaggi has been a stand up guy in answerng a lot of confusing rules. kudos to him. as for you. can't take the heat...

Raheel said...

We surveyed the rule and there's no points penalty - like Jaggi said if you want the rules amended, talk about it at the AGM. End of the day it is our decision to go or not and we will do as we please with that! It's just a game! Concentrate on your own game guys, lets talk about the matches that *were* played this weekend rather than the one which wasn't ;).

had pak gym been the last team in the standing and given tis walkover, nobody would have even talked about this..
and everyone is insulting St louis in a way, u guys are making it seem that St louis had no chance and would have lost the game for sure... people move on lets talk abt the games that were played...

Anonymous said...

purdue and challengers, details anyone

what teams to understand is the home ground favors home team. It does take a lot from visiting teams to play and win in home. Anything can happen? Just because teams win in Chicago it does mean they can replicate same in away games. See MUCC or St. Louis or MCC. they play and practice on their pitches every day. It does take a lot to tame a lion in its own den. I will bet visiting teams will be thinking twice before playing away games..its just out of their comfort zone..that is reason why away games get interesting ...

Raheel said...

Why are all you guys obsessed with Pak Gym?! From being on the blog I have gathered this so far:

If we win:

- Must've cheated
- Leg umpire must've cheated
- We bribed the main umpire
- Our bowlers chuck and get unfair advantage
What next? batsmen have spring-loaded bats?

If we lose:

- We're sore losers
- Players should be banned and subjected to fines
- Pak Gym are chokers who fail to win under pressure

Now we give a walkover (for very valid reasons) and everyone's talking about it like it's the hottest news on CNN !

Talk about Bears v United, Wildcats v Milw, MUCC v Phoenix, Challengers v Purdue, Flames v Tigers, Muslim v Chargers!

Anonymous said...

Div-1 is not cake walk for teams any more..as you can see from score cards competition is going up in Div-1 and its pretty stiff. Teams have to stay sharp otherwise will have to learn cricketing lessons coming to Div-11 Its very nice to see this trend where bottom ranked team from Div-1 end up in Div-11 and Top two teams from Div-ii end up in Div-1. Kudos to Purdue, Phoenix, MUCC, Royals all were best teams from Div-11 who deserved to be playing Div-1 and bringing up the competition level. 'Aging' Div-1 teams will cetainly learn one or two lessons from these 'young gun'...I am sure..Wildcat will have couple of comments on this..:) .Very good for cricket..

Anonymous said...

For once, I agree with Raheel. Its every team's choice to play or not to play. If we are in the situation where we have to depend on other game's result for playoff contention, then we are the one's to blame. Pak can afford to do this b'coz of some solid performance thru out the season and hence their position in the points table. I am sure they would have hauled their 7 available butts if they were struggling like us. Lets move on guys. But I really don't agree with schedulling games to suite player availabilities. It is a team game and thats how it should be. If your team cannot win without one individual, I am sure your team is not going too far in the playoffs.

Just for the fun of it.... Can there be an ALL star MCC vs ACC ? Just for once we should see what the outcome would be.....

Anonymous said...

with the bowling talent we have it should be a easy victory... ACC vs MCC

Anonymous said...

Just like the bowling talent we have in Div1, Div1 should have an easy victory over Division 2!

To me, the game between division 1 and 2 wont be any more interesting than any Aust-Bangladesh game. unless Div2 can produce results like Bangladesh did only once in their cricket history by beating australia.
Now before any of the division 2 teams scream at me, they can try to see how successful div2 teams are in night cricket against the div 1 teams.

Anonymous said...

So Challengers win (Purdue) and the scorecard is already up, while they lost to Pak last weekend and the scorecard is nowhere to be seen ... nice!

Anonymous said...

dood!!! Use your brains and think for a moment before u write up something..Division 2 has players of real quality to match Division 1 and most of these players would automatically walk into any division 1 team. The only reason most of them are in division 2 is because their team plays in Division 2 and there is something called Loyalty to the team. Not many people can ditch their teams and go on to play 1st Div simply because they cant be in the top-2.

Anonymous said...

Interesting ... name a Division 2 lineup ... let's see how they would fare against the allstar Div 1 team.

Anonymous said...

It's amazing how dumb people can get with reference to Anon at 1:50PM.

How can you compare the Div 2 teams in the night cricket tournament to a Div 2 All-star team that will take on the Div 1 all star team? Div 2 has enough great batsmen and bowlers not to mention great young kids who can field really well as compared to most of the aging Div 1 players (with exception to the new Div 1 entrants such as Purdue, Royals, Phoenix and MUCC).

Anonymous said...

Yea..players of some real quality who like to score 100s and 100s against fast bowlers who hold the ball across the seam, spinners who dont know that they are supposed to spin the ball??

We will see how well your div2 teams will do in night cricket and how many of your "loyal" players will stand out!

Anonymous said...

Would somebody show my friends scorecards when IIT played div1 2 years ago?

Anonymous said...

the top 11 players in div2 will b just as good as the top players in div.1 but overall, div.1 has better players.

its like theres 2 schools, one of them (div 1) has students that have on avergae a higher gpa than the other school (div.2)but the top few students in the school having lower average GPA are just as smart or probably even smarter than the top students in the div. 1 school....

its like neil johnson and andy flower playing for zimbabwe and still being better than half of the players on the aussie side.

Anonymous said...

Anony 1:50..
There are lot of talents in Div-II. I think ICC bowling attack is something that needs to recon with..Also, MDS just beat United in Night game. I think if Best of Div-1 and Div-11 plays, I will place my bets with Div-II personally...Will I win? We will have to see if there is such match will be conducted my MCC. Till then just keep those vile comments to yourself

Anonymous said...

"Would somebody show my friends scorecards when IIT played div1 2 years ago? "

Please do... IIT defeated Challengers (big margin of victory), Muslim Gym and Chargers

All the games with the exception of 3 went down to wire.

Ajay Gandhi - 2nd best average in DIV 1

Most of the ex-IITians are doing pretty well in DIV 1.

Anonymous said...

if you take roop and satha out of div. 2 then div. 1 can easily walk over div. 2.

but a div. 2 team having roop and satah can beat the best of div. 1 eleven in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

'not to mention great young kids who can field really well"

Unfortunately lots of people do not consider fielding to be part of cricket at all. Especially, Mr Anony 2:04.what difference it would make when fielder take those half catches and stop those cold blooded drives or chase ball and stop it before boundary can old lazy bones do it? only way to know is to play. Management listening..

Anonymous said...

Rup etc will get their asses smacked all over the place when they can't get cheap Div 2 wickets in all star game - I'm a Div 2 player myself, but I've seen a lot of mediocre cricket in Div 2 and don't have any high hopes for Div 2 allstars if such a game were to happen. Kiran, Shahid etc. will fill their boots against this Div 2 bowling line up.

Anonymous said...

Rup,

I did put my name in after the 1:01pm post. I missed it.

Anyway, what my point is that I cannot blame Pak for not playing St.louis if we do not reach the playoffs. We have put ourselves in that position (5-6) of not winning that many games. Now if they don't want to go, its upto them. Last yr we were 1-6 and ended up 8-6. We played some good cricket to get there. We went to St. louis with 11 players for two games. So like I said, when there is fire under ur ass, u will do STRANGE things. (like Nikhil bowling with NO HANDS for wildcats:)) and then coming back to Bat)

"MDS beat United night game..."

First of all its 20/20, I think the outcome would have different outcome if its was 45 overs.

Secondly, United was short of players and was playing without their superstar allrounder Mehul.

BTW Div 2 superstar, Laxmikomar R, was playing for UCC.

Anonymous said...

Satha is used to plundering mediocre medium pacers in Div 2, wait till he comes up against Mehul, Shahid, Nilesh, Nasir/Raheel etc. then we'll see what he's made of.

Anonymous said...

Satha and Rup are overrated.

Satha has never performed against good/decent bowling attacks even in Div 2. His team always loses in the playoffs because do gets out cheaply.

Rup is the same plus he is really suspect to spinners. Actually, the whole ICC team is suspect on spinners. Two decent spinners can easily wrap up ICC for a very low total.

UCC lost to better team that day, MDS. So there is no question about this stupidness of Div I vs Div II teams. By the way, with 14 wkts in 8 games does not make one a superstar. Satha is definitely a superstar, now thats some superstar to loose while playing a game. Also, UCC won both games (Tigers and Phoenix) when their so called superstar did not play and lost first 3 of the games that I played. So hush hush.

We all know who is gonna win the allstar game -- DIV I

Its would be like "Australia V/s Australia A"

Anonymous said...

The OVERALL standard of cricket in Division II is definitely a LITTLE lower than that of Divison I, even though individual brilliance is just about the same. As far as bowling is concerned in most Div 1 games, one needs to really bowl to a plan and buy wickets wheras its not so in Div II. Guys hit sixers and fours without batting an eyelid in Div I. There are teams in Div 2 that can do the same to you also...for example AAA / Suburban / MDS / Capitol. Having played in both divisions championship games, I can confidently say that on a certain day, either of the all star teams can beat the other. For instance a massive century by a Satha, an allround display by a Lakshmi, a dashing fifty by an Asif or Naser Yamani can take the game away from div I. On the contrary, a fiery spell from a Mehul, Nilesh or Shahid, a breezy knock from a Kamran / Tushar and an awesome innings from a Vikram / Aditya can get a win for Div 1. I am sure it will be a REAL ENTERTAINER..... much anticipated by everyone. Lets get cracking and get this scheduled soon. Jaggi the ball is in your court.

Irfan is too good to stop if he gets going. He hit some serious sixes down the ground. These pakis can hit ball far and long. Some serious power. We have two in our team, THE BAIGS. The old one (Adnan) is far too dangerous then the youngone (Faisal). His short arm pulls are my favourite. Afroze bowled immaculate spell last game, 7.4-0-13-1, till last two balls. 5th ball was full and went over midwicket fence, but the $$$ shot was the 6th ball. Short of length ball middle and off, damn, almost no back lift, that thing sailed over square leg fence.

Rup/Sekhar Viswanath,

Commissioners park in Naperville is a great ground, as we experienced over the weekend. We played couple of practice games in April this year.

It would have been better with two things.

1. The concrete foundation for future flood lighting should have been slightly far-off on either side.

2. Even and flat on the west side.

But hey...no complaints.

Its a great place to spend time with families and walk into decent toilets to empty the bladder.

Ashwin said...

Guys,

Another interesting topic (hopefully!)for discussion:

"Should regular season champs of Div II be promoted to Div I?"

My take: NO

My reason: A teams schedule, the way it is rite now, is to an extent a luck of the draw.

Example: No disrespect to any of the teams related to this example, in particular ICC! Just for the sake of argument lets say ICC end up as regular season champs. Looking at their schedule, they would have just played 2 teams out of the top 7 teams (of course, assuming that the current standings hold true at the end of the season!), not to mention a record of W-1:L-1 against these teams! Whereas a team like IIT, would have faced 4 out of these 7 teams!

I can see the same argument applied to playoff seedings too!

My Proposed Solution: Right off the top my mind, I think splitting Div II into two separate divisions (Div II and Div III) could solve this problem to an extent. How do you divide the teams?? That is a separate discussion in itself! Maybe for the future..:)

What do u guys think?

Ashwin

Ashwin said...

Divide into two divisions and then reward/ promote regular season and playoff champions.

Ramsundar Lakshminarayanan said...

Ashwin,

This is ONE possible solution:

Based on team standings this season, split div 2 into div 2 and 3.

Top 14 in Div 2 remain and the remaining teams may be moved to Div 3. Any new teams will have to join Div 3 and progress.

This way, all 14 matches in Div 2 will be against Very good to decent teams.

Relegation/Promotion:
It makes sense to increase # of relegations/promotions between Div 1 and Div 2. This will keep all Div 1 teams on their toes. Say, 4 teams may be swapped between div 1 and div 2. Top 4 from Div 2 are more than a match for Bottom 4 in Div 1.

I am not sure if I'm correct here, but winning 3 games is all it takes to retain Div 1 spot. If more # of teams are relegated to div 2, then it will also provide additional teams (say 4 in this example) from Div 2 an opportunity to go to Div 1. Luck factor will be negated if new teams don't win 3 games the following year, they will have to face the ignominy of a relegation.

Lastly,
Bottom 2 from Div 2 to go to Div 3
Top 2 from Div 3 to go to Div 2

cric_fan said...

I belive they can only not play in ACC .. Anywhere else it is fine

"if mcc does not allow its players to play in other leagues how come the following from united(faisal, adnan, bryan, shankar, nadeem, sudheer) and pak gym(shahid, irfan) are playing in NCL a 20 over league in the region. "

cric_fan said...

Most players have the passion and time to play cricket on both days of the weekend. If their families do not object them from playing on both days, why should they be restricted from doing so by the league? In any case they are not contracted or paid by the league. It is the passion for the game that makes them want to play as much cricket. why stop them?

Jaggi said...

In the past, we did have the finalists of div-2 play in div-1 playoffs. Our team, Tigers, played and lost to United. Definitely was a great experience for us and for me, in particular http://www.midwestcricket.org/asp/Score88.asp?id=513

Scheduling committee, correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it, it becomes very tough to continue with this due to scheduling conflicts. If I remember correctly, Book Club(the finalist from Div-2 in 2002 didnt show up for the playoff game(since it was a back-to-back game). They decided to concentrate on the finals, which they lost to us :-).

The discussion is a step in the right direction. I havent gotten involved with scheduling this year and probably dont understand some of the difficulties involved. However, I am quite sure that we will not change the schedule this year.
It definitely is a topic that we should talk about in the off-season.
Creating a division-3 is also something that we should look into.

cric_fan said...

We still dont get it... Big teams like Australia, Pakistan and India don't object when their players who are big rivals play in county cricket... Whats wrong with MCC player being in ACC? The nature and motto of MCC is to promote cricket to its fullest then why the double standards... ACC does not mind that MCC players are playing in their league.... The only reason this is happening is because of interior arguments and hatred from MCC officials.
