There is NO "I" in the TEAM so that dosen't matter at all. Flames is a good team, we will have to wait and see.

This will be a great game, as I said earlier Flames is a good team. 20/20 is great game and any given day one or two player from either Team can WIN the game for them..

Cheers!

Guys.. looked thru all the posts from yesterday(was in school). It was sad to see an instigator trying to dent some of the good discussions we have been having. Would like to thank teh folks who helped us move away from the ugliness and get back to discussing cricket.
I request all of you to ignore some of the comments made by the anonymous bloggers. Lets not respond unless we know for sure who that person is.

I had Mehul and Rup in mind before I ran the nos. I was wrong on one of them :)

Raheel said...

"A wise cricketer once told me that at club cricket level, one should be SHELFISH."

SHELFISH - Oysters anyone? ;)

I agree with the rest of your post Mehul.

Raheel said...

I will keep it much shorter than Rup ;) - WG Grace (yes from the late 1800s!) said that a captain upon winning the toss should always bat first, if the conditions are good for bowling he should think about bowling first and then still decide to bat! Long story short unless the conditions are extremely good for bowling (this doesn't just mean cloud cover, but also includes pitch etc.) and you have a lot of faith in your fast/swing bowlers, only then you should bowl first, otherwise bat.

Nasir.. at this point, we have not chosen the option to pre-register users. We are going to take a look at it when the existing system gets out of control.
Till then, please ignore any comments from individuals we dont know about.

Jack, what report did I promise? Are you talking about Jaggi's MVP report?

Hey Ankur, I might be droppin by tonight to see your night match, hit some biggies ;).

Raheel said...

Jack, I'm not part of the management - Jaggi is the MVP-Excel-Worksheet guru, whats the update on that Jaggi bhai?

Jaggi said...

I just put up the MVP article. I am looking for Sadiq too :-)

Ramsundar Lakshminarayanan said...

Rup,

Read your report on the match we played. Unfortunately, we got spanked. Our batsman, that is the usual suspects, did not click. We fell to the lowest score this season. Some good players were not available for the game for different reasons. Our batting is not as weak as you may think. You have two good bowlers - yourself and Jack. Your teams batting came out in flying colors. Regarding the caught behind, it is my opinion that the nick (from the bat) was heard throughout the ground!

Anyway, good luck for the playoffs. Are u guys assured of top spot in Div 2?

I don't know all the details but I think USACA recognizes Masood Chic (president of ACC) as the midwest representitive and in protest to that MCC doesn't participate in any USACA zonal tournaments, as they would have to go through ACC management to get a combined MCC-ACC team in ...something like that - I could be wrong.

Was there at the game last night. Met some of the bloggers- Raheel, Nasir, Tushar and some of the challengers, Shiv, Mitul, Priyank and Venu. Met up with Ehsan Bhai too, that was nice.

Also met up with Shiraz. He was talking about the urgent need for volunteer umpires for the night tournament. I sincerely request you to come forward and volunteer. Please email your availability to umpiring@midwestcricket.org.

I got to see Nasir bowl and I was very impressed. He has good pace and bowls a good consistent length.
Had to leave around 9:30pm.
At that time, Flames had scored close to 160. In reply, Charlie started off with a beautiful square cut against Nasir, but was left to watch the opening bowlers, Nasir and Yousef, choke the other batsman- Bharath. Charlie was gone, caught in mid-on, as I was leaving.
Can somebody finish the update?

Raheel said...

I don't know many players from Royals except Dimpey and Vipul so I can't name who did what but basically the asking rate climbed too much, after Nasir and Yousuf bhai, Asif (Milwaukee CC) and Zeeshan Khan came on to bowl and bowled pretty well with Asif getting a wicket (stumped) right away. I know what Nasir does having played with him for a while so I won't comment on it Jaggi already did that ;), but I was very impressed with Zeeshan who bowled a mixture of fast bouncers and cleverly disguised slower balls and hit a few batsmen on shoulders etc. His brother Siraj who bowls slow left arm was also very good with nice loop and picked up 2-3 wickets. Flames' catching was also better than Royals, with Rup swallowing 3 skiers at the long on/ long off fence and Moyeed and Mateen also held very good catches in the outfield. Yousuf bhai wanted to make a match of it and dropped 2 sitters in the 30 yard circle ;), but by then the game had already been decided.

Anyone wants to add to that?

Raheel said...

I think Royals got around 100 in 20 overs.

Jaggi said...

Dude anonymous.. I feel the same.
Thats the same reason why we turned the anonymous feature back on in the beginning of the week.

The reason we turned it off was bcos things got out of hand.

There is one last option, which is to approve every single comment that comes our way. Some of us will have to work full time on the blog to get that working :-)

Let me put up a poll and see what people think.

Jaggi said...

Thanks to Mehul who has volunteered to help us out with umpiring.

I will start umpiring in the 1st week of Sept (after my finals).

Can I ask all the regular bloggers to umpire atleast one game for the night tournament?

Ramsundar Lakshminarayanan said...

Any good slip catches over the past weekend?

Raheel said...

Nice posts today, looks like the blog is heating up again. So Satha is "Rambo"¿ What shall we call Rup? "Pirate of the Caribbean" ? ;)

Raheel said...

It was supposed to be an off-the-air joke as I'm sure the commentators don't care about being politically correct off the air. He should've thought about it, in today's day and age anything you say in the commentary box will probably be picked up by some station - I don't really think he's racist or anything ... just foolish!

Jaggi said...

"you are almost like an urban legend to some of us here" hahah.. good one and I do sort of agree.

Nasir, I am very hopeful that we will have an All Star game in Oct(weekend after the finals). Will update as soon as I hear something.

Satha.. you have played quite a bit of international cricket. We would love to hear about some of your interesting experiences.

Jaggi said...

Guys.. please stop responding to comments from some of the anonymous folks, especially the abusive ones.

Jaggi said...

Devils_advocate wrote.."In other words, only the two teams that make it to the Div 2 finals will Advance to div 1 next year and not the #1 seed on the points table at the end of the regular season. Maybe I have interpreted this incorrectly, can anyone confirm this?"

Yes, only the finalists from div-2 will move to div-1.

Jaggi said...

Shekh.. I respond only to the interesting discussions.

"You know its a friday and got to do something besides work.." lol..

Ramsundar Lakshminarayanan said...

Jaggi - All star game in the middle of October?

Jaggi said...

For this season, we have no other opening. Cant do it over the long weekend a lot of players have family commitments.

Next season, am not sure if its feasible, but, the hope is that we take a week off in the middle of the season and have all-star games/ family get-together etc.

Ramsundar Lakshminarayanan said...

Jaggi,
October may neither attract player nor crowd interest bcuz of weather. After playoffs and finals, doubt there will be energy left in our stars. I can be very well wrong. Can we confirm player interest soon for this year?

We can start planning for an annual All star event in the middle of the season from next year onwards. Given the interest that it has generated, there will be support available to organize such an event on an annual basis. I'll be happy to help.

Raheel said...

Mehul, my brother goes to Windsor!

Jaggi said...

Ram.. the poll(on the blog) suggests that, as of now 83% of the folks are interested.
I agree that weather will be a big factor, but, we will have to take that risk.
Will players be ready, I think so. This will be purely for bragging rights and am sure that players will find that extra ounce of energy.
"I'll be happy to help" - will definitely look fwd to it.

Ashwin said...

Ram,

Remember last year, because of the late start to the regular season, we had both the finals at the same time thats being proposed this year for the All Star game. Being a part of one of the finals, IMHO the weather was not too bad then!

Raheel said...

Nice. What field?

Computer Science with a minor in Buss Mgmt I think.

Jaggi et all,

Can we do something like both finals (Div1 and 2) are on the same weekend? Div 2 on sat and 1 on sun. Then we can have the all star game next weekend, we can even check the forecasts and do it on the warmer of the 2 days (sat / sun) ;).

Ramsundar Lakshminarayanan said...

Hey Crazy...
yeah...we missed u a lot...blog will start heating up! Some of us can enjoy the venom spewed on you!

Jaggi said...

Raheel.. we have been doing that... both finals are played during the same weekend.

"Then we can have the all star game next weekend, we can even check the forecasts and do it on the warmer of the 2 days (sat / sun) ;)." - right on the money !!

Damn! Is this true?

straight_drive said...

No need to keep tabs, after I heard Satha praise you I was curious who could this be (since I don't play in Div 2) and merely Googled the name Shekhs .. and guess what popped up!

Jaggi said...

Shekhs.. we all make mistakes, but, its about how well we learn from it and it looks like u have.

Cheers..

straight_drive said...

Thats cool Shekhs, I didn't know about it so was just curious, anyways good on you for repenting. By the way we had a discussion about fastest bowler in Div 1, people threw up names of Shahid and Raheel mostly (both Pak Gymkhana) and someone mentioned a new guy Ruchr from Purdue. Who is the fastest in Div 2 or who are the candidates atleast?

Raheel said...

Alright guys, I'm out too, might pop in later during the wkend - keep up the good discussions ;)

straight_drive said...

Someone was saying a bowler from Eagles is quick too and what about any of the ICC bowlers?

Ramsundar Lakshminarayanan said...

mcc_player,

Amit Shrivastava from Eagles (left arm, currently on injured list) is quick. From ICC, it is Jack.
