Yep, very good effort - excellent 80 from Jim, and 60 from Deron, chased down the big total on Ground #1 at WP. Eagles dropped a few catches, and probably had a few too many wides as well (as well as 5 penalty runs for a wide hitting the helmet!)

Also, Rogers Park apparently beat Rovers in Mossville. RP got 152 with a top-score of 40 from Saquib (nice way to debut in Div1), Rovers got 92 allout in response IIRC (3w for Affan, 2 for Aamir etc).

Milwaukee/Chargers was rained out at Hanover; Titans/IIT and Phoenix/AAA rained out at WP. No news yet on United/Flames, one of the big early games of the season (both teams are loaded with very talented new players, apparently).

BTW, Ground #2 at WP was in very bad shape this morning - its not draining at all apparently. Ground #1 was fine, and played a full game. Ground #4 wasnt good enough to play...but might have a shot at a game tomorrow if there is no more rain tonight (there isnt predicted to be, IIRC).

BTW, Flames beat United at Lake in the Hills in a reduced-game. 30 overs a side, United batted first and got 130-ish. Flames lost 3 wickets early, but Fahad started the season with his usual run-machine act, and got 71. New Flames-recruit Srini got 30ish, and the two took it to 100+ before the 4th wicket fell. Flames won by 5 wickets in the end I think, with 4-5 overs to spare.

So much for new rules to promote cricket when there is a game possible but it's against the B.S rules of Aditya and co.pfft

Good job on new site, but too little too late. Look ahead. Umpires/scores should be able to score using their phones to an engine tht integrates with our site.

Asif,
give us your opinion of how the talent or the lack of talent in mwcc stacks up against others?
any mwcc players that may have potential for the next level?

Hope we don't get another rain out this weekend. Nice to see that atleast some games were played and congrats to all the winners.

There is no question about the quality and ability of our MCC players BUT but what we lack is Physical fitness and Mental Toughness. Being skillfull is good but you need to be fit and tough to execute your skills. With out these two components your skill is ZERO. Unfortunately we dont have good weather either which makes things even worse. To be successful on the next level we need to have more competitive cricket. We use to participate in LA Open which was very competative. We dont participate unfortunately any more. We as MWCC can market our players by participating in tournamnets like these. USA National Team is going through rebuilding process these days and its a great opertunity for guys like Amit, Fahad, Shahid, Ashar, Joshi and quite a few others to cement their place the US National Team.

Rajiv said...

These weather conditions really suck... I think MWCC needs to think about a solution where teams get to play all 14 games somehow.. There might be teama ready to on long weekends, play night games, play back to back games on the same weekends etc.. I really think we can make it work.

Last year a lot of teams played only 11 games and I don't think its justified. All of us agree that the management cannot control weather but it can definitely do something about it. 3 rainout games allowed is too high a number.

What do you guys think??

First, Asif, congrats again on the USA team (selection and performance). It should especially be noted that Asifs performance for the USA national side was the best of any player from Central-East Region in living memory! He ended up #2 in wickets, #2 in bowling-average, #2 in bowling economy-rate.. and #2 in batting average as well! It was awesome!

Second - while I agree with Asif above about playing more tournaments of higher level to toughen our players mentally and physically, we're somewhat constricted by weather and circumstance as he said. The LA Open was great - but the LA Open doesnt exist anymore, so we cant play it. I think we're activiely looking for tournaments for our league players to participate in... hopefully some kinds of inter-league type action will take place on all the long weekends this season for us (starting with CER over Memorial Day weekend). If anyone has ideas for more inter-league games that can be played, that would be great! I think we have enough players who would love to play, if we can get the chance to play against anyone who is willing to play us :-)

----

I umped the PakGym/Phoenix game - reduced because of rain-affected field, starting 2.5 hours late. PakGym was a strange-looking side.. no Raheel, no Shahid, no Ashhar, no Rashid... but still they won comfortably! Najmi made an excellent 50 coming in at #3, batted very well. Pak has a new young guy named Bilal, who runs excellently and hits wonderfully well - hit a couple of huge sixes, and ran three 3's with Najmi in the space of 6 balls! Bakshi took 3 wickets, and Farman returned after a year off and got into his groove in 2 overs and started bowling terrific swing, took 3 wickets as well (including the big ones of Athreya and Aditya in the space of 3 balls).

On Sunday I umped Milwaukee beating Rovers. Milwaukee got 30 from Romesh, 39 from Kabir, about 20 from Asif...they were cruising at 103/2 in about 22 overs, and then collapsed to 122/8! Very good bowling from Puneet in particular, good pace and control. The last 2 wickets batted slowly for the last 12-odd overs and took it to 160 in the end. Rovers slid to 18/4 (with Kabir taking 3 early), recovered to 60-odd for 4 (with Puneet again doing the job with the bat, looks a terrific young allround prospect), before sliding again to 90/8 and eventually 117 allout. 4 wickets each for Kabir and Asif.

Big weekend coming up, lots of good games - hopefully the weather holds up!

Fellow MWCC Teams.

Springfield Cricket Club would like to hear your opinion. I know we are just a small fish in a big ocean, but please give us your honest opinion. We are confused why MWCC committee does not understand our problem.

As most of you know, the league posted the wrong methodology to calculate the DL method. Let me tell you guys how they found this out.

This past weekend our team played Peoria. Springfield scored 188 all out. After 20 overs Peoria was 64/4. At this time, the weather was cloudy, and it seemed like there was a chance of rain. Anyways, around the 28th over, it started to drizzle. During this time, Peoria team was calculating their target based on the formula given by MWCC. At the EXACT TIME they thought they reached their target, their players ran onto the field without the umpire calling for them! They played 30.2 overs at the score of 123/5. From the old MWCC calculation, it showed they won by 3 runs. This was okay with us, we lost. However, when we got home, we felt something was not right with the method MWCC had provided. How can they be averaging 4 runs per overs that requires them to score 7 runs per over for the next 9.4 overs and be given the win? After doing research on the DL method, we realized it was wrong! After doing the calculation, it showed we actually won by 10 runs. We brought this information to the committee and later that night, they agreed that we won by 10 runs! However,(I'm GUESSING after they talked to the Peoria team) they told us they can't give us the win because Peoria played by the error calculation provided by the league! THIS IS WHAT WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND!HOW CAN AN ERROR MADE BY MWCC HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE GAME THAT WAS PLAYED! ITS AT PEORIA'S OWN RISK IF THEY WANT TO SPEED UP THE RUN RATE OF THE FEAR IT MIGHT RAIN, OR PLAY AS IF A FULL MATCH WILL BE PLAYED. IF WE KNEW IT WOULD RAIN, WE WOULD HAVE BOWLED OUR BEST BOWLERS RIGHT AWAY! IT'S A TEAM'S STRATEGY/DECISION HOW THEY WANT TO APPROACH THE SITUATION!THE RAIN STOPPED THIS MATCH, NOT AN ERROR CALCULATION MADE BY MWCC. Our teams decision/strategy was to play as if it would not rain. We feel it's so simple to decide on the basis of the existing situation and apply the correct rule to it. The committee does not agree with us. They are saying the only "fair" thing to do is to play a rematch. I'm assuming this means both teams can have completely knew teams. HOW IS THIS FAIR? They are telling us to pretend this game never happened. Are they forgetting the expenses made by both team!?! We even asked if we can resume the game where it was left off. Even this they did not want. Anyways, we are asking you guys to please read this and give us your honest thought.

Thanks,
SCC

Thats bullshit...MWCC dont be bogus

Alpesh said...

Sapan and Team Springfield,

I can sympathize with what you are feeling. However, I will not give an opinion here, since it may appear to be biased. But I am interested in knowing what other teams think about this situation.

Unknown said...

Alpesh,
In the email we sent you guys, one of the things we said was: "I encourage you to talk to other neutral teams see what their opinions are" since we were so confused as to why the league is making us play a rematch when the error made by MWCC had no effect on the match. Obviously you guys did not talk to other teams. We didn't get any reasoning in our personal emails. All we got was an email from Dinesh forcing us to play a rematch without addressing any of our concerns.

Unknown said...

Sportsstar in our opinion both the teams have right to stand there ground because on the gameday it self Peoria went with d/l table provided by league and according to that table they won then you guys researched and found out method of calculation was wrong and now you guys won .I think it will be fair enough to replay the game and get a fair result again this is our opinion .

xxhesterxx23 said...

But Peoria played based on the points table and stopped exactly when they thought they won. Apperantly there batsman said they could continue but everyone else on the team pulled them out after they thought they "couldn't see" when in reality it is that they thought they won

Unknown said...

I think umpire can answer this question better if the light was bad to stop the game its only umpire who can award the light its not teams decision

Unknown said...

Sanjeev,
Thanks for your thought.

Our argument is that the d/l table has nothing to do with Peoria total. They scored as much as they could before it rained and they simple did not get enough runs to win the game. Therefore, the CORRECT rule should be applied here.

sportstar1099,

I feel that Peoria scored enough to win the game and they were saving wkts so that the par score doesn't increase on the fall of the wicket. I agree that this game needs to be replayed because Springfield was playing as though it was 40 over game and Peoria played more conservatively and stayed just above the par score based on the sheet provided. You cannot give a loss to either team here. Just my 2 cents.

Rajiv

Unknown said...

They were not saving wickets. It was clear they were attacking our bowling the last few overs.Exactly when they got their target, some of their players ran into the field with the covers without the umpire calling for them. Their own batsman wanted to continue playing.

Rajiv said...

If the umpire never called for covers, why didn't the game continue?

Regardless of match situation if a wrong D/L table was being used during the match then the match should to be replayed in my opinion.

All I can say is - go out there and beat them fair and square, that would put an end to all discussion.

Unknown said...

Let me give an example:

If a batsman thinks he has finished his century based on an error on the scoreboard/score keeping, and then he gets out, and later, if they find that there was an error in total run calculation for the batsman, they correct the batsman's score, and he does NOT get awarded with a century on a stipulation that because it was their error and batsman followed the error scored and because of that he got out, otherwise he would have played sensibly and finished his century,(even though that is exactly what has happened). The facts remain fact that no matter what is the reason, he didn't complete his century. The batsman would not have an option of playing his whole innings over again.

saleem khan said...

Guys,
I never thought this will be upto a debate discussion here, we did the calculations based upon D/L table provided to us, according to which we won, so just for the sake of debate i can say, we won this game and yeh thats the committee's mistake not ours. But we just want to be fair here and ready to play a rematch.

It is just a game which is not worth a fight or even a debate. Lets just get over it and play the game.

Lal Badshah said...

Hey Saleem Khan - Dont talk like Anarkali?
Why did you guys stop exactly when you thought you Won?
If you guys had played out till the umpire called it off or till it actually rained, then you have a point.

Hey Sportstar - Dont talk like a Rap star.
whatever happened on the ground happened on the ground. Why did you guys not check the Dickworth and Lewis chat before the game.

You are doing your homework after the exam, dont you know you need to do it before the exam ??

Now enough no more arguments from both sides, just listen to our committee and play the damn game again. Remember to do your homework before the game ...

Wins by PakGym, Peoria, MuslimGym and United in Div1 today.

PakGym beat Bears at WP. Bears (playing with 3 guest players) bowled out for 88; Pak got it for 1 wicket down. Wickets shared - 2 each for Farman, Salman and Bakshi IIRC.

Flames got 177 in 40 against Muslim - good 30's from Basir and Kiran, 20 or so from Fahad and Moin each. Couple wickts for Hasan. In the chase Muslim got 30 or so from Kamran, and about 40 from Hasan (excellent calm knock), it got tight for a little while but they eventually made it with about 2 overs to spare.

Peoria got 244 against the Wildcats on Ground 1 - Kalyan continuing his silly run of form with 47 IIRC (thats about 170 runs on the season for him so far, before most players have scored a single run!) Good contributions from Ram, Madhu and Yousaf-bhai too IIRC, for a big score. Wildcats chased well - brilliant 91 from Ajit almost took them home, but eventually they were bowled out for 231, only 13 runs short (with still 8 balls to spare IIRC). Excellent game in the end, just like the quarters between the same two teams last year.

United apparently got 250 against Rovers, with a powerful 60 from Faraz and an excellent 62 from Samiullah apparently (yet another special United recruit, by all accounts). Rovers 197 in reply (with a 35 from Ashwin Ravindran, formerly of Purdue - welcome back Ashwin!)

Very very cold by the late afternoon at WP.. but at least the season finally seems to be getting into full swing!

I would like give props to Surya from WildCats..He took a stunning catch at slips off of Sanjay and even umpire thought it was out, but he corrected the umpire that he wasn't sure and it might have hit the ground first...Umpire changed his decision and called the batsmen back..It was a great sportsman spirit from Surya..Kudos to Surya..!

As always Wildcats a great team to play against Ajit single handedly almost pulled of a stunner just like our semi finals game...our keeper redeemed himself with a spectacular stumping..otherwise game would have been a goner..Ajit has always that special innings stored for us..and we are just happy to end up on winning side..Thank you WildCats for a great game and being great hosts...Wishing Wildcats the very best for the season..!

Interesting week for Division II. Eagles chasing 93 lost to Springfield. This is the same side that scored 220+ in Week 1. Titans lost to Milwaukee Rangers. Mavericks registered their first W beating Milwaukee Panthers.

On a different note - Madison has dropped out of the tournament and therefore every team gets a walkover for their Madison game.

But Milwaukee Panthers and Milwaukee Rangers get 2 walkovers as they were playing Madison twice. In a mere 14 game season with a couple of rain outs expected, if any team gets 2 walkovers they are pretty much left with 9-10 games. How is it fair for 2 teams to get 2 walkovers for a division where only 6 teams go ahead to playoffs. It's a sad state for Division II going forward.

At this rate, I would rather go to 30-30 and try to get more cricket for a cheaper price (cheaper league fees and no travel cost). When you are paying $153/game + travel cost you expect the league to make sure no team is deprived of cricket. All rain outs should be rescheduled and the league should ensure that walkovers are not allowed. We have had 5 walkovers so far in 3 weeks. That's just not good!

Rajiv , may be thats why few Div 2teams moved to 30-30.May the the league should merge Div 2 with 30-30 and make it more competitive. The loyal team like Illinios moved to other league is really shocking.

The solution for ground pouching as league exclusive rule is really helping ? don't think so , ground pouching happens in Washington Park & Hanover Park but a newly acquired ground brought more players & teams? No. Around 12-15 Chicago teams in Div1, same in 30-30 ,so almost 300 playes got team. Glendale heights got 30-40 teams now , so 700 players around chicago area & 400 goes into the banning quota, where can Chicago Div-2 team find players? Let us say 6 of my players moved to Glendale heights because of difference in opinion now where to get the replacements ? i have to either merge with other team or join those 6.

With the emergence of BPL everyone thought that ACC will be loosing the grounds & teams , they didn't ban the players but came back strongly with more teams & grounds. It is the managment part to book the grounds what the team or players needs to do with it ? Bottomline is regardless of how many grounds & teams ACC got , the difference between Midwest & Abott is same as Midwest & ACC ,quality is here & competitive cricket is here.

The rule was created that league rule so that they could ban players(like Wasim Khan) supporting ACC , at one point it was used as vendetta against United team , last year the same has been used against Flames.

Simple - more players=more teams=competitive cricket=big & great league. The managment should atleast relax the league exclusive rule for Div-2.

I know every one will fire back on me but before that just see how many new Div-2 teams from the Chicago area in the recent years.

AAA vs Milwaukee - Milwakuee.
Wildcats vs Rogers Park - Mildcats lost their midas touch for a while ..Roger Park is on a rampage
Rovers vs Phoenix - Can Phoenix not the Phoe-jinx this year ? last time they lost by 2 runs

Division 2
Who cares ?

30-30
United Sabres vs Desi Tigers - Sabre is too blunt for Tiger , needs outsourcing..
Juggernauts vs Hustler - tough one but nuts
South Barrington vs Rockers - Rockers
