Week 5

Actually a full weekend of games this week, with the rain holding off
the week of our return from the Memorial Day weekend. Long may it
continue!

We try and cover all of it again, in Edition Five of our weekly video
magazine the Midwest Wrap, along with the usual news, views,
interviews. This week, breaking news in a chat with Asif, about the
immediate and long-term big-changes taking place at Lincoln Park in
Milwaukee as we speak, a chat with Mankesh about the Eagles latest
pickups, an interview with Raish about the high expectations of the
Jaguars this season (with the demise of IIT, probably one of the new
favourites in Division Two this season), Top Performers of the week,
and in addition... returning due to popular demand (well, not really,
more returning due to personal whim)..the return of "One More Thing",
a personal commentary by your host to end the show. Hope you enjoy it,
and thanks for watching!

WC Vs Royals

I will keep this post to just the update, one more tight game finishing in a Tie, where the last over Royals needed 3 runs in one over with the last pair, and Dimpy nearly lost the game won the game and tied the game in the very last over..with 3 more balls to go in the last over he went for broke and was cleaned up by Krishna.. Exciting game and Cats again defended a very low score of 125 or so...

that must have been a cracker of a game, atleast u had tie game in the beggining of the season and not in the last game!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE PROVIDE SOME MORE DETAILS NAREN.

WC Vs Royals

Royals won the toss and elected to field first on a cold and overcast day.

WC started with Romeen and Krishna and the scoring was tough with the moving a bit with overcast weather, and to their credit the opening bowlers of Royals were just bowling line and length and their fielding was electric, there were hardly and singles to steal, and they were backing up their fielders very well.

WC were in trouble soon With Krishna getting out without much score on the board, and Javed joined Romeen, but the scoring was tough with Manish and Dimpy keep it straight, and WC lost Romeen at around 20 odd, and Satish walked in to do some damage control
Javed and Satish tried to rotate the strike without taking any risks but Royals had their A game on the field, they built the pressure on the batsman and it showed on Satish, trying to hook he gave a simple catch to mid on, and we also had rain to think of so we had an eye on the 20 over rule, and by 20 overs were scored 57 at the loss of 4 wickets.

After the break, things went from bad to worse as we lost Akhil and Nari one after the other, and at one stage we were around 70/7 and we still had around 15 overs, and Shyam and Surya started playing around trying to find that elusive boundry here and there, Shyam tried to score big, going for the big shots he connected a few and then he was out with the score around 90, and I joined Surya and in a couple of over Surya played the ball early and gave a simple return catch.
Me and Giri played around and score some important runs, and in the end we were bowled out with around 10 balls to spare. A special mention about Chirag, I think he took a 5fer, he really bowled well and troubled the bastman with his line and pace.

Royals started their chase with Sameer and Hetal and they found scoring to be difficult and Satish and Giri were bowling some nice line, Hetal was the first to go edging a Satish delivery and
Akhil to a very good low catch, and next to go was Sameer, he hit a skier and I got hold of that at point.
Chirag joined the party along with Bharat, and both found scoring tough, but at the same time they did not get any easy runs with our fielding being semi electric :-), Chirag played an uppish shot at Javed at Cover took a sharp catch, and at this stage we thought we had a chance, and with rain coming down in the 19th over, it was back to Duchworth calculations and Royals needed 4 runs in 2 overs to stay ahead, and they did get those runs, but in turn lost Bharat who was trying to score those 4 runs briskly. Royals needed 50 runs in 15 overs with 5 wickets in hand, soon we got rid of Dali, and Pritesh and Dimpy joined forces and both of them were playing sensibly as the asking rate was not more than 4 an over, and they frustrated us a bit and it was getting out of our hands, and at this time Pritesh got run out trying to steal a run of an over throw, and then Manish joined Dimpy and at that time they needed 11 of 3 overs, then they needed 7 of 2 with 2 wickets in hand, and at this point Manish gave an easy catch to Shyam trying to clear the field at covers, and now the equation was 7 with around 10 balls, at this stage both the batsman played around and the final equation came to 4 of the last over.
Krishna bowled a dream over, keeping it in the block hole, and they needed 3 of 5 balls with Dimpy on strike, the next ball dimpy tried to clear the offside and lobbed a ball high on the cover and Shyam dropped the catch and both ran for 2, the last 3 balls needed 1 run with the last pair, and Dimpy went for broke for no reason charging the bowler and got bowled. in the end the game was a tie, and Royals still had 2-3 balls left.

It was a good game, low scoing and a corker of a game..

All the best to Royals for their season.

Good summary Naren.
What a great game!
The Royals are a very friendly and sporting bunch, it's always fun to play them.
A special mention for Afroze who I think is one of the best umpires around.

Jaguars Vs Springfield.....

Jaguars won by somewhere around 80 runs.

From what I heard Jaguars set 224 in 40 overs, Shahmeer scored his career best of 124 not out(110 balls).

Springfield fell short by 80 odd runs.

Thats all I know.

--------

I did - but only 2 games at WP today as Ground-3 is still unplayable (the Flames and AAA were thus moved to Hammond - dont konw what happened there. Real pity, cos I was hoping to be next door and interview Abhijit - he just got picked for the USA U19 team, the only player from our league on the US U19 team).

Anyway. Next door to me, Bears beat Eagles - Bears got 198 or so in their 40 overs (they were 136/3 in 31 overs when I was there during my break - 30s from Adeel and Faisal near the top of the order, both Shahid's were batting, and they had wickets in hand for the last overs). During the chase rain was a factor for a while - Eagles started well, were 40/0 in 10 overs IIRC, and were chasing 80 in 20 overs for rain-rule. They got 79/3 in 20 overs eventually (tied with Bears 20-over score I think).. then Laxmi hit 12 off the next over I believe and it was 91/3 after 21 overs...and yet when I went there and got a score during my break it was like 120 or so for 9! Bad middle-order collapse. Not sure what the final total was, but Bears won.

Meanwhile in the game I umpired Jaguars won quite handily over Springfield. Jaguars batted first, and Shameer opened and carried his bat - got 124* at the end of the innings (technically didnt carry his bat I suppose, since Jaguars were 9-down at the end and not allout, but still). Very good innings, led Jaguars to 223 which was a very big score with the ground not *that* quick. Springfield were never really in it in the chase - like 23/2 in 10 overs, 59/4 in 20 overs I think, 96/6 or so in 30 overs. Eventually lost by about 80-90 runs or so I think.

Anyone have updates of StLouis-Phoenix, Pak-Purdue or Flames-AAA?

AAA vs Flames

AAA Loss

AAA won the toss and elected to bat first on a quick Hammond Ground. Asif Y. Patel and Abdul Behlim started out great. Asif scoring 68 runs and Abdul with 31. Asif played a great innings. AAA had 154 in 20 overs looking to have a mammoth score. Flames bowling quickly took Asif K Patel, Adam Menk, and Sadik Patel combing only to score 27 runs. Ayub Patel scored a quick 28 with a great inning. AAA seemed to loose wickets on intervals and were all out for 221 in 35 overs. Kudos to great bowling from Arshad Bhai and Krishna. AAA looked confident but we knew that the Flames were good. Ram and Fahad took over. A great 115 from Ram and 61 from Fahad beat AAA outright. RAM and Fahad were amazing with phenomenal shots. Flames scored 221 in 25 overs in about 2 wickets. Amazing game but Flames beat AAA in a amazing fashion. The game was like an IPL game. Ram is the man of the match. Kudos to blames with a mammoth win.

AAA looses to Flames

It was a great day for cricket. The weather was a little chilly but the ground looked phenomenal. It looked like it was going to be a high scoring game and many would have high scores. AAA won the toss and elected to bat with a Flames team who only had 10 player until the 20th over. Asif Y. Patel and Abdul Behlim opened the innings for AAA. They played beautiful. Asif scoring 68 with many 4s and 6s. Abdul scored 31 giving good support to Asif. They both got out with Fahad taking Asif's wicket and Abdul got out shortly. So Adam and Sadik were on the pitch. Captain and Vice Captain who were in a great position to lead the team to a high score but Sadik got run out and Adam popped one high and was out. Arshad took Adams wicket. Ayub Patel came in next and hit 28 runs with 4 fours and got out with a great ball from Nasir. Asif K. Patel came in next but was stumped by Ram who was amazing. Ikram played good with 21 but got out on Lbw. Ibrahim then came in next but was stumped shorty again by Ram. Then AAA started to fall. Hanif and Zaheer who fell shortly. AAA were all out 221 in 35 overs. Great control from the Flames bowling. AAA had 154 in 20 0vers and were all out for 221 in 35 overs.

Ram and Fahad opened the innings for Flames and they were amazing. Ram hit every ball perfectly. He played amazing with 4s and 6s all over. He had an amazing and quick 115 while Fahad also pushed for 61 with an amazing inning from both. Flames got 222/2 in 25 overs. High scoring game but AAA were beat outright by the Flames. The game was great and Flames is a a great team and a nice bunch of guys to play with. AAA needs to recover and hopefully have a great game next against Purdue. AAA needs to step up. With a great day for cricket, it was an amazing game which was similar to an IPL match.

Hammond batted first and scored 169 all out. Rovers chased it in around 25 overs for the loss of 6 wickets.. Ravi top scored with 42 off 17 balls, Deepak scored 36 and Yogesh scored 26.

In all it was cmfortable victory. Hammond has a very good batting line up and they are a fun team to play. WIshing them all the best in the future games.

Guys ..just returned from Hammond after playing Illinois CC. My team - Titans beat them by 9 wickets with 15.2 overs to spare .. Faraz scored a grand unbeaten century - 129* in 77 balls with 14 4s and 3 6s ... he reached from 50 to 100 in space of 17 balls and at one moment he hit 34 runs in 8 balls ... with 7 consecutive 4s and 1 six ... out of these 7 4s, 6 of them were in 1 over ... All in all .. nice game ...

Rup .. All the best for the rest of the season ... Thanks for the food too ...

ICC got wacked by Titans due to a Brilliant 129 not out from Faraz..

It was the worst gut wrenching whallopping ICC may have gotten as far as my memory goes back in MCC.

ICC was put in to bat. We scored aggressively but lost frequent wickets. Quite a few guys got blazing starts but never carried on except for Jack and Youdeo at the end.. ICC put up 202 off 29.4 overs..We felt we had a good chance of defending.

Titans came out swinging..and after a run out in the second over..In came Faraz and off the bat he was blazing and gone..way gone before we knew it he had won the game for Titans.. other than a couple of half chances he batted beautifully..Took the initiative away from every bowler..Hammond was lightening quick and Titans got to 205 off 25 overs..
Kudos to Titans on a big win.
ICC is going back to the drawing board to shake off the Blows.

Alp..I am glad you all enjoyed the food..It was fun playing you all

Checked the scores...wow! A tie game, an upset victory, and some nice ass-whuppings from the favorites...have it all this weekend.

Congrats Shahmeer. That was one heck of an innings. He opened the innings and remained not out till the end scoring 126 from 104 balls with just 1 four and 2 sixes, which means lot of running. And then came back to bowl 5 overs and claimed a wicket. That is some fitness.

Congrats Faraz, the other centurion, Alpesh and the Titans. Nice win.

Congrats Appu!!

Tough one rup...there's not much anybody can do, if one of the batsmen just go berserk like that..

-------

I umpired this game - fantastic innings. Hammond is very easy to bat on (the pitch has absolutely nothing for bowlers, and the outfield is maybe the fastest in the history of the Midwest - there were 2 unbeaten centuries scored in 2 games this weekend for example). But even so, nothing can be taken away from teh innings - great knock.

ICC started fast, but as Rup said lost too many wickets. They were 97/3 in 12 overs! Then they were 150/6 in 20 overs. Jack batted very well - along the ground, getting fours everywhere - but he fell to a great one-handed catch the first over after break (150/7), and so ICC got only 202. Unlike Rup, I thought it was not very defendable :-) I think 200 on Hammond with this outfield is rarely ever going to be defendable - if you bat "normally", no risks, along the ground, keep wickets in hand... 250 in 40 overs is easy to make (ie bit over 6/over).

Anyway. Titans lost a runout wicket early, and Faraz came in in the 3rd over IIRC. After 15 overs it was 96/1... and there was the odd cloud, so Faraz and Alpesh were thinkign maybe to go for the 150 in 20 overs (Faraz instructed Alpesh to just bat normally and he would do the hitting :-) .. Alpesh was playing the perfect supporting role, taking singles pretty much every ball to give Faraz the strike. They got like 8 runs next over, 104/1 in 16 overs.. and I heard Faraz say on changeover "kam aye" (too few came this over :-)

Then he just went on the rampage - he was already about 68* or some such at this stage. He has a lot of batspeed, and times it well - the ball races away, and on this field it was four every time. He played very smartly too - didnt hit in the air too much (unless the fielders were not in the region)... you could hit ground-fours at will if you hit them well, and he was hitting everything well. At one stage, in 8 legal balls he faced, he hit 7 fours and 1 six! It was actually 9 balls - he hit 6 consecutive fours in one over, then a wide next over, followed by 6 and 4 next two balls - and that got him to his century (got to his century by hitting 34 off 8 legal balls!) Titans ended up scoring 170/1 in 20 overs at break - that is, they scored 66 runs in the last 4 overs before break! After break they actually slowed down - Alpesh got his fifty, Faraz lost a little of the flow, but they still won in less than 25 overs eventually. Quite a day - and all this was following on from Faraz getting 4-fer in the morning (all 4 of them clean-bowled).. which may have been even more impressive than the batting, given the conditions :-)

----------

I was surprised nobody commented on the Asif-interview - or maybe that part was not wonderfully audible because of wind-disturbance :-( It was breaking news, and I think very big news.. and I thought most batsmen in Div1 would have a very strong opinion on it :-)

The way its going to be is this - the next 2 weeks are byes for Milwaukee, and they are making a new concrete-astro pitch 20 feet away from the current pitch. However, the last game has *not* been played on the clay pitch... Milwaukee will now have *two* pitches, one clay and one concrete-astro, and as the home-team they will have the right to choose which game to play on which pitch, depending on the opposition.

Personally, I think this is ok - most "home grounds" in international cricket have 2-3 strips prepared, and the actual game-pitch is chosen by the home team. However, I do think that MCC should maybe put a law saying that Milwaukee has to notify the opposition by, say, Thursday as to which pitch they will be using that weekend... it wouldnt be quite right if they just decided on the morning of the game (after suddenly seeing that the opposition had shown up without their best spinner, for example :-) If the notification is done a couple days early so both teams know the conditions they will be playing on by Wed/Thurs.. then its really quite fine, IMHO.

But again, Iam sure many batsmen in Div1 will disagree... most were really looking forward to the idea that the last game on the clay pitch had already been played, I think :-)

The other changes in Lincoln Park are also quite terrific, in prospect.. no more baseball there, they will be levelling the ground over the next 2 weeks, sodding the "infield" over the offseason so its all grass.. and maybe 2/3 "practice pitches" where the batting cage currently is in the offseason, and eventually maybe a "clubhouse" type thing in the offseason too - all as Asif said in the interview. If all that comes to fruition, Lincoln Park might be the best cricketing facility in our region in a year or two, which is great news!

Hello Friends,

Sorry been out of action due to travel and swine flu. Ok I was stretching the truth with swine flu, Dr. called it Summer Pollen Allergy.

Few things, I remember reading a reference to Red or Pink Underwear. Well since we are all open and honest here, I will come clean too - I have been wearing Pink Thongs to every Cricket Match since 2001, to show support for Breast Cancer. I think we need to make Pink Thongs a mandatory garment for our MWCC Players. Don't be scared and you know who you are, try it once I bet you will like it. If you sneak one out of your girlfriend's drawer just make sure it does not say "BEBE" with glitters. That will be too feminine.

Ok now on to more important things in life. All Star Blogger's Ball. Our 2nd Annual All Star Blogger's Ball Cricket event will take place around 2nd or 3rd week of July. The game will be hosted during the weekday and we will have the date finalized around June 20th.

Last year we hosted this Cricketing Event and we had around 35-40 people show up and we all had a blast. A lot of you have already reached out to me asking for update on this so here it is.

Event: All Star Blogger's Ball

Event Date: 2nd Week or 3rd Week of July

Event Location: Hanover Park (6pm -11pm)

Signup: You can signup for this by emailing me your name and contact number at atifmshaikh@gmail.com. We will finalize the date and roster and get back to you by end of June.
