Thank You BH. TA mission in life is to bite the neck of those that nearly threw ousted him.

I agree with the thought process that people should sitdown with management and sorth thru the bullshit rules etc. But the million $ question here is "Does TA give a rats ass about what you think and want?" As long as I have know this lil man. He has ego problem and feels that he was, is and will be the face of this League. His ideas are the best and you newbies don't know shit. Trying to talk sense to someone like that is like telling BUSH that there is no WMD - Idiot will do what he wants. Eventually it will catchup to him (TA) as I know that Happy customers tells 2 and unsatisfied customers tells 20. Eventually you will see a better run league chip away teams from MWCC. It's really not rocket science to get playing grounds. Use the minority sport card Jaggi.

I also disagree that only few teams are near boiling point of 212 degrees and want to leave. I think many will leave if they see better playing conditions, less politics and honest management.

Vasu ..

Regarding the ground change for ur game against ICC .. it was a small mistake overlooked by the team that is trying to clean the Div 2 Schedule from a garbage like schedule created by our very old official Scheduling committee .. Div 2 VP Sridher and his team-mate Ram has done a tremendous job in improving the Div 2 schedule ... They deserver a pat on their back ..

Bloggers .. lets appreciate these guys wok ...

Good Work Sridher and Ram !!!!

Peoria vs Phoenix

Peoria won the toss and decided to bat. Arun started things rolling for us by picking up a couple of early wickets - specially that of Satha. Priyank joined the party and picked up one for himself though he was unlucky not to pick up more. Just when Peoria was looking to break the shackles and cosolidate, Prasanna bowled a dream over to pick up both Younas and Ashwin with absolute beauties. Some good catching and fielding leading to run-outs helped us wrap them up for 134. Peoria bats down to no. 11 and we felt we had played extremely well (and had a bit of luck) to restrict them.

The chase started out positively with Mitul and Sameer making use of the fielding restrictions. Just when Mitul looked set for a big one, he fell, and DC (our previous game hero) fell shortly afterwards. I walked in at 2 down and had a good partnership with Samir to take us to drinks without the loss of any further wickets. But Peoria fought hard and prized out 3 more wickets before Fabian and I were able to hit the winning runs.

Peoria is really a fun team to play, great bunch of guys, very sporting, and fight hard at all times. We had to work hard for our win, which tastes a little sweeter the next morning. Good luck to Peoria for the rest of their season.

Bloggers prediction came true as Titans lost to Arena by 1 wicket in a thrilling match on a very hot day !!

After winning the toss and elcting to bat ... Titans made 177 allout in full 40 overs ... We squandered a good start and were in dire situations .. but Faraz and Schon rebuilded the innings and gave us a good score to defend .. Faraz scored a brilliant 51(77). Schon remained unbeaten on 22*(48). Earlier Tafazzul scored a good cameo innings of 31(30).

We started to defend our score in the best possible way and Arena were about 25/4 in less than 10 overs ... but then some dropped catches and the hot n humid weather and not to forget brilliant batting by Samir Raorane and wonderful supporting acts by Sagar and Rajesh took the match away from us. After taking the 2nd break, when Arena just required 26 runs in 10 overs with 5 wickets in hand .. as the sun relented we saw a sudden rise in our performance and were seeing a comeback victory from nowhere. But then with some luck and daring shots by Ujjawal, Arena manahed to ride home with just 1 wicket. A great match justifying the 10 hours drive ..

Also Arena were a good host and did provide us with lot of water and gatorades throughout our fielding to maintain our energy levels ... Everybody was friendly and I am happy that the match was played in right spirits ...

Gentlemen:

Management has reviewed the cases of individuals, viz. Faisal Baig, Adnan Baig, Abhijit Joshi and Irfan Aziz, Rup Seenarain, who violated the league exclusivity rules of the Midwest Cricket Conference.

In the spirit of 'getting on with the game', Management has decided to temporarily lift the supension and allow the above stated players to play their scheduled games, the week-end of June 7th 2008.

Management has extended the time upto Tuesday, June 10, 5:00 pm,central time, for the said players to individually and separately email management@midwestcricket.org, expressing unequivocally:
a) remorse and
b) give undertaking to the management, that he will not in future, violate any of the Rules and Regulations of the Midwest Cricket Conference;

I guess the response below from us is not remorseful enough.
==================================
UCC has accepted the responsibility for the circumstances that led up to the reprimand by MCC and has become aware that in order for the betterment of the league, UCC has to establish a better communication with the league. UCC wants nothing better then to empower MCC management in order to establish precedence set forth in order for the league to function as a well oiled machine.
If UCC were to be presented with the same situation again, I feel like we would do things dramatically different and work with the league to assure that we would take the responsibility of picking up the phone and calling management to clarify any confusion. The ordeal that let up to UCC participating with NCL should have been communicated with MCC, and that is the course of action that UCC will accept, and willingly open the communication barrier that will endure a happy meduim.

Advancers Beat Challengers by 26 runs..

Challengers won the toss and decided to field...
Advancers blasted off from the word go..as Pawan played some scintillating knocks to power them to 50/1 in 10 overs.
Pawan kept the run rate ticking on one end while shakir consolidated at the other.
After a brilliant 60, Pawan got leg before.
shakir took over the reins and kept the run rate at par..
thats when it rained..

It rained cats and dogs for an hour or so...
Both teams shook hands and called the game off (yeah, we pretty much did)...
thats when the umpires check the ground and decided that its safe to play..
I have to thank the umpires in making this decision, as it was absolutely nice to play and we did have a good game after an hour of rain..
I have to say, we might not have this kind of ground any where else in the world..unbelievable..

Shakir continued where he left off and with the help of Sandeep, took Advancers to a respectful 219.

Challengers started off extremely well, matter of fact, blasted off..
Bhavesh was in a devastating form...scoring 61 in 26...when he got out, we were 95 for 1 in 9 overs..
a coupla quick wickets and challengers were in a bit of a soup..
The middle order caved in with some brilliant spin/ slow bolwing by advancers, with the ever reliable Froze managing to hang on..
Alkesh came in and played a brilliant cameo to put up a 60 odd run partnership with Froze..
As soon as Alkesh was caught in the deep, it was all a matter of time..
challengers got bundled out for 190 odd runs..

All credit to Advancers ..they were better off in all aspects - batting, bowling and fielding..

An embarassing loss for challengers...yeah thats a wake up call..

Good luck to advancers..!!
Watch out Div 1, this team can play..

When we were playing against Arena in St Louis, I came to know that there is another league in St Louis and lot of St Louis - Div 1 team guys play in that. I heard that Sohail Alvi was playing on Sat too in that other league .. Is not that a violation of MCC ground rules ??

Ajoy - We had fun playing with your team too ... We had a 23 hour day on sat ... but are happy that we had a good game ...

I know him personally. He was coming to Chicago, so I invited him to play for us. It was a lot of fun as everyone including Pak Gym riased their game to show what MWCC is all about. Faisal Iqbal was especially impressed with Shahid Muneer and Faisal Baig and he made a point to stop by in Chicago and play for us again whenever he is here.
Thanks to all of those who stopped by. For those who did not, you guys missed some good Biryani.

Adi, You guys are on fire.. congrats Phoenix.. Keep up the winning ways.. looks like Adi is finally in some consistent form??

Sory Shekhs..Hope you guys learned from the loss.. A game is not won in 10 overs but till the last run is scored or last wicket taken.

Arena.. Way to go.. looks like you all had a great game with the Titans..Hope both teams recover from the Trauma of such a close game..

Aditya said...

Thanks Rup. We will try and keep up our winning ways and I will try and keep my form consistent. :)

Milw CC is a tough team, specially on their home ground, so this will be another tough test for us.

What news on your game Rup? Was it rained out or did you get to play some good cricket? I'm looking forward to hearing about the Rup of old - 6 wickets and 100+ runs....

Shekhs said...

yeah Rup, we got a bit cocky and over confident with that brilliant start in 10 overs...

I think we learnt our lesson...

Aditya said...

On a slightly more positive note, it seems that the players that were suspended and the management team have taken some positive steps towards resolving the dispute.

Although I'm not sure that an acceptable and resonable solution has been reached (thats between both the concerned parties to figure out), at least there is some movement towards an amicable resolution. I hope that movement continues

Aditya said...

Shekhs, sorry to hear about that loss, but cricket is a funny game. I'm sure in the grand scheme of things it won't matter as you guys will still make the playoffs.

Hats off to the Advancers for pulling of a good win against one of the better teams. They definitely can play ball in Div 1, as can Peoria.

Shekhs said...

Thanks Adi, I hope you're right about the grand scheme of things...
:-)

Definitely, Advancers is a very resilient and talented team....we obviously underestimated them and paid the price..

ICC vs IIT.

ICC was hosting so after we emptied a huge pond of water by using the cones to bail the water out and put som drying stuff in we started at 11 AM.
Not to mention the umpire threaten to call the game off cause we were not there at 9:30 AM.
ICC won the toss and batted first.. Lost Collins early.. but then Jack and Ramesh put on a good run.. Jack was going great until a miss call got him out caught behind??. We were doing great at 98 for three 20 overs. then a couple of quick wickets and we lost momentum at were 110 for 6 when the sky fell down.
A half an hour later and we needed a boat to cross the river that had formed between us (in our Cars) and our gears left at the park.
Sadly it ended in another rain out as a good game was in the making.

Alpesh... Your FYI on MCC players playing in St louis League..
It will be sad if that is true because of the current stand that MGT has taken on the CER players..

Me personaly, don't Care so hopefully MWCC can find some common grounds to allow everyone to play cricket when and wherever they want because their constitutionl rights of "Freedom of choice" allows them to do that.

Yep .. the news are true .. as I heard some of the spectators there saying that Sohail Alvi thrashing the opposition ... like 150 odd in 15 overs or so ..

About our game, I am still thinking if I had spring in my legs and had dived for a catch and if that had stuck into my hand .. we could had won the match ... since it was such a close match .. i think it will take a while before i get out of this feeling ...

Alive, and attempting to dry out from Sunday in Madison. Where I stupidly decided that we oughta drive up and try and play a game.. we (ump + Giants) were going to leave at 7am, talked to Murari, it was overcast and not actually raining.. with some water on the ground from the day before we waited till 9am, still overcast and no rain, so, despite forecasts for scatter thunderstorms, we all drove on my decision. Silly me.

Ended up, huge thunderstorms again, waterlogged (kind of like last week in Springfield), no game. Called off at 2pm-ish with no play. Irritated, I went off to the gorgeous UW-Madison Union and chilled for an hour and a bit (they had a Jazzfest going, plus the weather now was fine - any Div2 teams visiting Madison, you really oughta take an hour post-game at this Union, awesome spot. Especially if you wanna celebrate a win ;-)

I was just beginning to think that maybe I had called the game off too quickly, it now being bright and sunny (at like 4, almost).. and then it got bad in a hurry. Apparently a couple tornadoes just near the outskirts and all (so I learned later), and rain bucketing down again (probably for a long time this time around). New record for rain in Madison over a single weekend set by Monday morning, so the Weather Underground website says :-)

Madison is a fine ground with some very good drainage, but it couldnt handle Sunday. Wish I had been in Washington Park instead - as Sheks noted, probably the best drainage in the world there (did only 1 out of 3 games actually finish even in Washington Park on Sunday, though?)

When we were playing against Arena in St Louis, I came to know that there is another league in St Louis and lot of St Louis - Div 1 team guys play in that. I heard that Sohail Alvi was playing on Sat too in that other league .. Is not that a violation of MCC ground rules ??
---------

Not if he has spoken to Management about it, and taken permission. Remember, the law says that you cant play outside of MCC *unless you have prior permission from management*.

In practice, again, this exclusivity rule has historically been applied only to the ACC - with the rationale that they go after our grounds, so we ought to have to truck with them. This is why people have not been suspended for playing regularly in the NCL in the past (including current management members - both KrishnaM and Sridhar have played here in the past, as have United folk, plus players from various teams, it was completely legal). Similarly, as pointed out before,
Purdue plays in an Ohio league, Milwaukee and Madison players play in internal leagues in those cities and so on. Playing in "tournaments" is kind of a gray area I suppose.

It will be interesting to see how this issue is eventually resolved - since apparently (accordnig to the post from Adnan) the current situation is temporary. There has already been mention of a few other tournaments (Diversity Cup etc) that are on the schedule for UCC soon.. hopefully everything gets resolved before all that, and the league doesnt get riven by more disputes again a couple of weeks from now!

My favorite city in the country - Madison, WI...true that finger of Death...
I worked there for a year..no place to party like that ...
The terrace at the union always has some band playing..and with UOw crowd, the bars and the restaurants...you can't miss out..

Definitely something to consider..for a post game hangout..

PS: C8W, can't believe you actually made the giants go all the way to Madison..next time call me too.. :-)

Midwest under fire for 'arrogance'

Conference demands 'remorse' from suspended six

Cricinfo staff

June 9, 2008

The saga of the Midwest Cricket Conference's suspension of six players rumbles on with an announcement that it required the players to email the "management" expressing "unequivocal remorse" and giving an assurance that they will "not in future, violate any of the Rules and Regulations of the MCC".

The six have been accused of playing for a rival Chicago league in a regional competition in May.

They were allowed to play in last weekend's matches "in the spirit of getting on with game" but critics of the board's action have been quick to point out that the regulations that were allegedly breached were only published on the eve of the competition.

Referring to the case of 15-year-old Abhijit Joshi, who last month represented the USA at the Clico International Under-15 event in the Caribbean, one local cricketer told Cricinfo that it was "preposterous and arrogant" to expect someone so young to give the statement expected by the MCC.

It's raining cricket stars at Detroit's Diversity Cup 2008

Detroit's cricket community is among the largest in the country, and perhaps the most resourceful. Not only does it boast two leagues, Detroit is the home of two of the best organized cricket events in the country.

The first of these, of course, is the Big 3 Cricket Challenge tournament which features Daimler Chrysler, GM and Ford both on the roster of participants and on the list of sponsors. Making the Big 3 the foremost 'corporate' cricket challenge in USA.

But it is the Diversity Cup which has attracted global attention and put Detroit on the world cricket map. With teams named after the main cricket playing nations, the cup has succeeded in drawing spectators as well as cricket stars. The level of competition too has been nothing short of spectacular.

Four teams played in the first year - Canada Maple Leafs, India Blues, Pakistan Greens and USA Stars. They were joined by Sri Lanka Lions and West Indies Masters in 2007.

Right from the inception, tournament has been Detroit's answer to the other big regional tournaments in USA. Whereas the famous cricketers that were featured in the past were mostly former cricket greats such as Azharuddin and Rizwan uz Zaman who played in 2006, or Asif Iqbal who was guest of honor in 2007, this year, the organizers are bringing in even greater star power.

The tournament that starts on June 21st features Shabbir Ahmed - Pakistan fast bowler who plays for ICL Pakistan and Mohammad Saif who has played for India U-19 as well as UP Ranji team. Saif is older brother of India's Mohammad Kaif.

Shabbir will play for Pakistan Greens whereas Mohammad Saif will play for India Blues. Former Pakistan test cricketers Asif Mujtaba and Rizwan uz Zaman are expected to play for the Greens as well. Pubudu Dassanayake who played 11 tests and 16 ODIs for Sri Lanka in the 90s will also participate in 2008.

Diversity Cup is back with more star power
The chief organizer, Global Sports, has also promised something that has only rarely been attempted in USA at the senior level - a live video broadcast of the tournament via the internet.
Motor city residents are lucky to have so much high-intensity cricket in their neighborhood in 2008. The Diversity Cup comes right on the heels of the Central East Regional Tournament conducted by Great Lakes Cricket Conference. And the Big 3 is scheduled for the summer.

It's a very sad moment in MWCC cricket right now. What is going on right now and these types of news and info is making MWCC look like crap right now..
MGT needs to find time ASAP and lets sit down and talk and find mending ways to bring us back on the bright page.
Lets hope MGT sieze this opportunity and do some corrective thinking/measures.

This is the letter I sent to Managemnt regarding my une???? remeorse....
==========================

Hello,
Per my conversation with Tariq Ahmad I was to receive a letter advising what I need to do to release my suspension that has been imposed on me for playing in the 2008 CER regionals. As of this moment I have not gotten that letter.

In this conversation I was told by Tariq I need to send a letter in to Management expressing remorse and let management know I will not violate any MWCC rules going forward.

In my letter to management last week explaining why I played in the 2008 CER with a different team than MCC I asked management to advise me what rule or rules I have violated that caused management to take the actions they did in suspending me. I have yet to receive any such explanation. I am asking again for you to let me know what rule I violated to deserve the punishment handed down.

I went to the CER regionals taking MCC ground rule 31.1 into consideration that I can play in the tournament without violations to any MWCC rule. I think a lack of communication between myself and management is the primary cause that this has happened.

I accept full responsibility for my actions and I am very sorry that I have brought management and my fellow MWCC member undue stress in the effort to bring us all better cricket. Going forward I will do everything in my power to make sure there is an open line of communication between management and me to avoid this from happening again.

please let me know as soon as possible your actions taken on this matter.

Sincerely
Rupnarine Seenarain

Our response to the management
==============================
Dear MWCC management,
As stated in my show cause letter to you I have specifically quoted MCC exclusivity rule 31.1.as the basis of our participation in CER 2008 hosted by Great Lakes Cricket conference. I would like to reiterate that we have committed no violation. Therefore I do not see any rhyme or reason to show remorse and authorize the undertaking to the management, that he (we) will not in future violate any of the Rules and Regulations of the Midwest Cricket Conference. The show cause letter has also been submitted by each individual and all six of us are in agreement that we have acted within the guidelines of MWCC rules.
I would like the management to clarify as to what part of League exclusivity rule we have violated so we can analyze it further and create a response in accordance with the management's stand on this issue.
As stated before United Cricket Club and the members who participated in CER 2008, will make a concerted effort moving forward to notify the management before participating in such events.

Sincerely
Adnan Baig
President
United Cricket Club

congrats to Abhijit and Faisal.....

Adnan make sure mgmnt knows about them playin in Houston, whenever they do....im sure you and the mgnmt dont wanna go through the suspension saga again.
So how does it work the team for which faisal and abhijit have been selected is that a CER allstar team and may probably includes the likes of shahid muneer or afroze from the MWCC team, that is if they are selected?

Bighitter and Centurion this post is for adnan and its just an inquiry to the CER team and how MWCC might showcase there talent at the national level.....so please dont get all excited and ask bighitter to get up from his knees or back which ever way u were preferring!!!

GOODLUCK TO FAISAL AND ABHIJIT
