continuing from a previous thread... --------------------------------- time_pass said... Ram, You guys managed to get a ground in Naperville last year, how did you do it? Who do you go to? Park Distt? Are there any tricks to this? ---------------------------------
time_pass: Naperville park district created the ground based on efforts from several folks (MCC players/ other leagues etc) AND those were not necessarily co-ordinated and concerted.
As far as I know, the effort from Sridher Jagath began way back in 2004.
We lost the ground this year because Naperville park district started a league on its own thru association with few desi individuals. So, the ground is being used by that league for their games.
Getting a ground is not easy. We got to get in touch with the park district officials, meet them constantly, fend off initial hesitations, establish a rapport and then build on it.
We as MCC, may form a committee, as suggested by few, and request the help of Hanover Park district officials to put together an approach. Popular desidoms such as Naperville/Aurora/Lisle/Schaumburg and other burbs may be targeted.
Draft a uniform approach and go after park district officials with active support from Hanover folks and MCC players living in those suburbs.
Say, if we start today, we may end up with 1 ground for next season at the maximum.
Its not easy...
If we end up having 3 or 4 grounds in few years, we don't have to worry about losing WP for Olympics.
The other option is we wait for bunch of like minded folks in MCC to win 50 million each in lottery.
Hey...if I win 50 million, I will donate a ground or two to MCC :)
Wildcats St. Louis ----- wildcats Rogers Park AAA ----- AAA Flames Pak ----- PAK Purdue Challengers ----- challenger Chargers Phoenix ----- phoenix Capitol United ----- capitol Milwaukee Bears ----- Bears Milwaukee St. Louis ---- St. Louis
the CER tournamnet was fun....best part was that I got to see the talent levels across the central east region (IL, IN, WI, MI, MN) and I sincerely felt that we MWCC were the best.
Thanks are due to Adnan for considering me for the same this and last year. Owing to prior commitments I could not make it to Minneapolis last year and for game 1 this year on saturday. I did play game 2 on sunday in a losing effort that hence saw us not make it to the 50 over finals on Monday.
There were a couple of highlights: one was the experience of interacting with Karsan Ghavri and two to see fellow boilermakers Chintan and Ruchir bowl exceedingly well....esp given the legendary left armer Ghavri was around.
Ruchir actually bowled lights out, must have clocked 90mph atleast....just a thought though...Chintan got into his rhythm early and well.
Samarth (as with Ruchir) definitely deserves the zonal nomination. I fell he is the # 3 genuine spinner in this league behind Asif and Bhavneet. I have known him and played agst him (once on the same time in the ohio league all star game) since summer 2000 when I got to Purdue and he was at UIUC. He is definitely right up there.
Sharath, don't be so modest. You hit 63 runs in 49 balls, batting at 6th spot. If it were not for Sharath's and Mitul's stand, Midwest Alliance would have packed under 100 runs. Impressive batting and Keeping.

I made it down there for a part of Sunday - was intensely curious to see this tournament, given that it was a "higher level", a regional, below only the national US level. Havent really seen this sort of tournament before. A handful of other "MCC folk" were there watching too, which was fun.
Honestly, I must say I was very disappointed... and my primary emotion was one of sadness. I really feel that, if we had put up a full-strength "MCC allstar team", I think we would win the regional tournament in a walk. Heck, I think if we put up a well-selected "MCC second XI", I think its very likely that those two MCC sides would meet in the final! Given that, I was just sad that our guys fell just short of winning the game (which would have put them into the finals). The organization of the tournament seemed ordinary, and I heard plenty of umpiring complaints (almost as many as when I umpire ;-)
The side we put up was a pretty decent one anyway, and it did decently - I think they ended up #3 out of 8 teams, just missing out on playing in the finals. If they had won the Sunday game, they would have made the finals... and they lost by only 2 wickets. They had reduced the opposition to 100/7 chasing 150 IIRC, but didnt have great bowling left, and couldnt stop the runs at the end. They didnt play a great game on Sunday - they should have gotten many more runs, but a middle-order collapse had left them about 100/8 before they even got to 150, and then almost defended it. I hear on Saturday they beat the defending champion side from Minnesota (a side, BTW, that included our old buddy Fawad from Muslim Gym, the excellent allrounder, who moved to Minnesota last year! Good to see he's doing so well there)
Anyway. Supposedly on Saturday Kamran and Irfan from Chargers got 30's each from what I heard, and then the spinners won the game (Samarth, Gaurav from United, Khadry from Advancers). On Sunday Gaurav got runs at the top, then a middle-order collapse left the team at 100/8... and then Mitul and Sharath batted terrifically to carry the score to 150+ at the end. Sharath got 60-odd, batted quite excellently. While bowling Chintan got an early wicket, then Ruchir and Samarth bowled very well and shut down the middle order. Ruchir I think bowled like 8 or so wides in 6 overs, but only about 7 runs came off the bat! They coudlnt handle his pace much. Samarth too had about 18 or so runs in 6 overs with a wicket (the chase was 156 or so in 30 overs). At one point 75 were needed off the last 10 overs with 4 wickets in hand.. but after Samarth and Ruchir bowled out (and Irfan got hurt, and Khadry wasnt playing), the opposing team got home with 2 wickets to spare.
Watching the end of the game was sad - knowing our league's best side would have killed the opposition, and yet watching them celebrating etc (Bakshi from Pak Gym was there watching for a while - I remember thinking, if only he was out in the middle, damn, he would have *killed* some of their bowlers. Or Shahid. Or Mehul, or Nilesh, or Satish when we were short of bowling at the end).
Anyway. Good effort by the guys who were there, and a pretty decent result. Congrats to both Samarth and Ruchir - well-deserved picking, based on at least the Sunday game that I watched. Based on just that day, Iam surprised Sharath didnt make it too.
Good summary CW and Sharath. I only disagree with Ruchir bowling 90mph lol. You have no idea what 90mph is. I once saw Waqar Younis when he used to play for Glamorgan in 1997 bowling in nets where bowlers hardly go all out. The ball left his hand and disappeared everytime, the TV cameras with their multiple frames per second now make it possible for us to see those deliveries at 90+ mph but believe me if you were watching with naked eye, its very unlikely you'd see it unless its at you.
as i said in my earlier post, "just a thought"...i meant to say he was bowling quick, as always, but he did have an extra yard of pace last weekend...having kept for the entire season ruchir made his debut for Purdue.....i can tell you, he is genuinely quick....IIRC we did once borrow a "speed gun" i guess from the recreational sprts club at Purdue to clock him....that day dude did register in the upper 80s....may be it was just that day.....i guess may be 80 mph avg might be a widely acceptable realistic estimate.
How much does a speed gun cost. do you guys think we can afford one in MWCC so we can check out our speedsters on different wickets. It will be nice to know seeing we have quite a few quickies in the league now??.
neanderthal_walking, lets see who does better with their predictions this week. Who ever has a greater win/loss percentage, wins.
You said,
"game winner
Wildcats St. Louis ----- wildcats Rogers Park AAA ----- AAA Flames Pak ----- PAK Purdue Challengers ----- challenger Chargers Phoenix ----- phoenix Capitol United ----- capitol Milwaukee Bears ----- Bears Milwaukee St. Louis ---- St. Louis"
My predictions,
Wilcats over St.Louis Rogers Park over AAA Pak Gym over Flames Purdue over Challengers Phoenix over Chargers St.Louis over Milwaukee CC Milwaukee United over Muslim Gym United over Capitol
Wildcats St. Louis ----- wildcats - obviously better team although STL can use the spongy conditions at HP to certain extend with their slow bowlers but CATS will come through. close game.
Rogers Park AAA ----- AAA - Bowling attack of AAA will keep the cahrgers below 150.
Flames Pak ----- PAK - too much class. flames batting line up is toothless. murder waiting to happen.
Purdue Challengers ----- challenger - awesome challengers bowling attack will keep average PURDUE batting line up at bay. close match expected.
Chargers Phoenix ----- phoenix - finally Phoenix full up their sox and their batsmen will come good.
Capitol United ----- capitol - satha will procude a match winning inning. united doesnt have the batting power to cope with the bounce at springfield. out of sorts mehul means bad day for united.
Milwaukee muslim ----- muslim - MU is below par. not enough batting depth and no attacking bowlers. close untasteful game.
Milwaukee St. Louis ---- St. Louis - spin hardend STL will negotiate asif well. -------------------
by the way..Brainsinballs, you better declare your name soon because according to your leader Adnan, dont be a p**y and separate your self from "boys to men", stop hiding and show ur name. Or are you Adnan writing under a different name cuz u have had enough bashing?
People have been talking about trials, how come anybody I know who plays in midwest knew about trials? Adnan critisizes Tariq for taking his people to LA, what happened when his term came? how come people from Challengers, Pak, Bears, Wildcats were not playing? All we see is players from United and Adnan Kiss ass teams?
Also, people r mentioning Ruchir's name as one of the best bowlers in the league? Bakhshi's name as one of the top batsmen in the league?
If Ruchir's running in by 5 yards and throwing the ball as fast he can without any control...and Bakhshi's swinging the bat towards midwicket for every ball mean great cricketers to you then you need to see some cricket! The only few batsmen in my opinion are: Sohail, Shahid, Irfan, Hassan, Kiran, Tushar, Vikram, Dax, Adnan.. (even though i label him as dictator) and in bowling: Mehul, Shahid, Nilesh, Raheel, Asif, Bunty.. To add CD, Ruchir, Bakshi, Samarth to the list of above players is nothing but a disrespect to the above.
"Mehul, Shahid, Nilesh, Raheel, Asif, Bunty.. To add CD, Ruchir, Bakshi, Samarth to the list of above players is nothing but a disrespect to the above."
Both Samarth and Bakshi have better numbers than Bunty. Raheel is about as good as CD and Ruchir (They are all youngsters and they are all very gifted) But surely, Mehul, Asif, Shahid and Nilesh are the 'cream of the crop' as far as bowling is concerned.
Maybe they turned down the offer to play. I mean, you think Adnan is not going to select Mehul?
I just compared Bakshi as a batsman above. As a bowler you are right, he is probably one of the best spinners (although his chucking is always in question)
================================ People have been talking about trials, how come anybody I know who plays in midwest knew about trials? Adnan critisizes Tariq for taking his people to LA, what happened when his term came? how come people from Challengers, Pak, Bears, Wildcats were not playing? All we see is players from United and Adnan Kiss ass teams? ============================ Ice_Cold first of all thank you for even mentioning me in the same breadth as the other great batsmen in this league. I am humbled. Secondly, pour some cold ice water and take a step back to think before writting. Why the premiere players did not participate in this tournament? That is a million dollar question that you should be either asking the players or the management. It is true that I did not reach out to all the super stars, because I had a massive pullback, when I approached them to play the Independence cup. I was left stranded at the last minute without a XI and I had to scrounge for players to fill the gap. Put yourself in my shoes, get me once shame on you, get me twice, shame on me.
Predications of week#4 Div 1 1.Wildcats will easily win over St.loius. 2.Rogers Park will beat AAA. 3.Pak gym will beat the crap out of Flames. 4.Challengers will face their 2 loss of the season. 5.Phoenix will win over Chargers. 6.United over Capitol a close one. 7.Muslim gym will get their 1 win of the season over MUCC. 8.MCC vs St.louis Hmm a good one but i will give the edge to MCC because they are playing in milwaukee tough place to beat them. My predication are only for fun don't wanna offend anyone.
could someone with some know how with dbs, comiple a list of run leaders and wicket leaders since they started keeping track of stats, (my guess is 2001) then again i do have my balls in brains. anyone, anyone?
Guys what do you think about introducing powerplays in MCC? 10 overs fielding restrictions to start with and then 2 blocks of 4 overs each for a 45 over match - I think it should've been done this season. It will make some matches more exciting and give captains some food for thought.
I just wanna comment about all the bashing goin on towards the management first & then u guys start bashing eachother if u guys r serious about taking a stand towards the management plz make a one good opposition against them thats how u can win right now it looks like u guys shooting yourself on the foot so my advice to u guys is Rup,Jaggi,Adnan and whoever wanna be part of this u guys have to sit and talk and give us some good Adminstration for the love of cricket. Thanks.
Why no one ever talks about or pick any div 2 players on the dream team. Are you all saying there is no good players that can represent Mid west in DIV 2???. Adnan did you approach any of the top Div 2 players to play in this recent event?. This is the crap that gets me going and why I was pushing so hard for an all star game.
well rup satha is in div 1 now and that was the reason allstar game got popularity last season because ppl wanted to see how satha will perform against div 1 bowlers. so far hes got a first ball duck and 43. thats an av of 21.5 and in div 2 he averaged 109. you were 2nd with 48.5 so you can imagine what your av will be in div 1 if u make it ;).
Adnan did you approach any of the top Div 2 players to play in this recent event?. =============================== Yes sir I did. As a matter of fact Altaf Qadri plays for Advancers in Division II. And those who were approached and decline can say for themslelves.
Adnan, This Atlaf guy?. does he play under a different name for advancers cause I don't see him anywhere on the scorecards for the 3 games advancers played so far. did you approach any ICC players?. Just curious.
All Division 1 teams, Please take note that Purdue falls in the Eastern Times Zone. Therefore we are 1 hour ahead of Chicago. Teams, please leave from Chicago accordingly when travelling to Purdue.
============================== Rup, I think the one with Azhar and someone else. IIRC, I think it was India vs Pakistan. So you weren't eligible to play. =============================== There you go again Tango, trying to politicize the issue. It was meant to play competitive Cricket for a good cause.
what people fail to realize or accept here the fact that Adnan organize these events to promote himself while giving his henchmen a chance to play. but to be fair to him, he is organizing these events as an individual not as a MWCC official. so he is entitled to do whatever he wants to do.
I was the only player ICC contacted to play in this event. I was told it was India VS Pak but since I have Indian culture i can participate. I was contacted on at the last minute. The organizer (not Adnan)of the event called me thursday evening. Left a message so I called him friday morning. He said he need a confirmation by Evening. I called Tariq to clear up any issues with the exclusive Rule. Was told it's up to me. After consideration I realized i was not even a first choice but a last minute replacement. I did not wanted to be called a Banda again as one Californian called me at the US trials. I told the guy I will not be able to make it for personal reasons. If this is the reason why no ICC player will ever make a squad selected by Adnan and his group I feel sorry for ICC players as they are paying for my personal decision.
A couple of thoughts after reading some of the posts.
1. Why are people questioning who Adnan selects for a team he puts up for the regionals? If he wanted, he could have taken all ACC players. It is his perogative! He isn't selecting the MCC team, who by the way, WON'T even put up a team! If you want to play, you should contact him. I wanted to play, but my fault for not contacting him. As far as I'm concerned, he's a stand up guy who has stood up for his beliefs, who's organized his team and his passion well, and a pretty decent batsman as well. I question the wisdom of the lawsuit, but that's my personal opinion.
2. On that note, it seems that there is enough of an interest to get some "All-Stars" playing in a game together. So, lets do it. There are long weekends coming up. Lets organize it ourselves. All it takes is getting a ground, getting people to come play, and getting some balls (the cricket kind). Apart from that, it's just a bunch of guys playing somewhere, and there isn't a thing anyone can do about it!
3. Lets buy a speed gun and use it during our games. If management can't do it, maybe the rest of us can manage it. I personally think Ruchir is the fastest bowler in our league that I've faced. Raheel would come second. It would be cool to know what speeds they bowl at. Couple of others I would be interested in - guy called Basit Zaidi from St Louis. Nasir from Flames. Rup. RamGopal from Advancers. Rupesh from Challengers. Priyank from Phoenix.
"There you go again Tango, trying to politicize the issue. It was meant to play competitive Cricket for a good cause."
How am I politicizing the issue? I am merely stating facts. Rup himself said that it was meant to be India vs Pakistan, and the only reason why he was eligible to play was because he has 'Indian heritage' LOL (I'm sure the organizers must be really desperate by then)
If anyone has any interest in organizing the game I'm calling BUNCH-OF-GUYS (read: All-Star) game for now, lets take it offline and organize it. Please email me at aditya.burman@google.com if you are interested in helping organize it, and lets see if we can get one for the July 4 weekend or Labour Day weekend. Please, no haters!!
Lets figure out a list of people that we want to see play, and then contact them. Depending on interest, we may be able to setup 2 or even 3 games!
tingoo, mango, sorry... tango why don't you organize something and get people to play? then we'll have a ball(brain) on this blog about talking crap about you!!! oh, i fortgot you are nobody, right, just a bufoon who wants to spout out idiotic comments without thinking first!
Fair enough. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. It's very difficult to select from 600 odd people in the league when you're not in the management. But I'm not trying to defend him - I barely know him. However, my first impressions have been positive thus far.
But, it's an argument I'm not sure he can win even if he doesn't give preference because it's very subjective (even from his perspective). So I agree with you, but I do see a lot of other comments made about him without much thought and a of malice.
Too bad people are more concerned about what Adnan does instead of what the Management doesn't do. This is why, our league is barely functioning, instead of growing and thriving.
Brain wants Aditya to run for PREZ!!! come on bro throw your hat in the ring!!!! i couldn't talk crap about you if i wanted, you are the only one making sense here!
abhe tingoo, GD has nothing to do with this. Can you organize an event? don't run from the questions, this is why you make no sense. answere the questions!
Aditya, I disagree with you on #1. Why are people questioning who Adnan selects for a team he puts up for the regionals? If he wanted, he could have taken all ACC players. It is his perogative! ------------------- This is the problem with cricket all over the US and that is why I don't see Us cricket improve unless people running the show change their ways of thinking. A successful individual has got to pick himself up and try again if not succeed at the first time. Because some one did not do something then, does not mean will not do it now given the conditions have changed. If you take on a responsiblity then it's your obligation to fulfill that role without malice or prejudice.
What does me organizing an event have anything to do with this? No one over here has doubts about Adnan's organizing abilities. Its his attitude that pisses everyone off. But you won't understand that, you are precisely doing what your little brain can max allow you to.
Thought so tingoo! Instead of criticizing othere for whatever they do, why not look inwards? Have you offered up anything in your constant babble. Perhaps a visit to Dr. Phil will do you some good. Remeber; when you point a finger at someone, there are 3 pointing back at you! Dr. Brain has said enough!
Here i am thinking you might have decent comebacks... Dumbness, please... Bring it up a notch there buddy. some of my best material is being wasted on you!
Please stop posting stupidity. I have no control over your mood swings. You have an option to not participate in the discussion, if it annoys you. Trust me, not exposing your stupidity by choosing not to post, is your birthright. Exercise it!
GUYS WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT GOOD BOWLER HOW COME YOU FORGET ABOUT DAXX AND SATISH. BOTH ARE VERY TALENTED AND GIFTED BOWLER THIS LEAUGE HAS. THEY CAN SWING BALL VERY GOOD WITH THE ACCURATE LINE AND LENGHT. DAXX HAS BEEN IN TOP FIFTEEN WICKET TAKER BOWLER AND TOP 15 ECONOMIC BOWLER SINCE HE'S BEEN PLAYING IN MIDWEST CRICKET. SAME THING GOES FOR SATISH. BOTH BOWLER BOWL IN RESTIRICTION OVER AND THEY STILL MANAGE TO KEEP ECON DOWN. GUYS THAT'S SOMETHING. I HAVE SEEN DAXX BOWLING HE CAN TROUBLE LOTS OF BATSMAN IN THIS LEAUGE. HE IS OPENER BOWLER AND HE NEVER TAKES 2 GUYS OUT OF CIRCLE FIRST 15 OVER. WHAT A CONFIDENT BOWLER. IT'S JUST MY OPINION..I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK ...LET ME KNOW..I WOULD LIKE TO GET 2ND OPINION
Now i see nandy can't watch tingoo take all the abuse! therapy is excellent for balls or brain, if you can decide which one does the thinking for you? Neandy, do you even play? no, i don't mean pocket pool... or do you stay at home on the weekends and just read the blogs? who are you playing this weekend and are you going to beat them? i got funny feeling you are beating something...
why don't you just come out and ask me instead of you beating around the bush. don't play around and ask what's the size of this or that, next, you'll wanna know how big my hands are or are my feet commensurate to my other body parts. you teaser!
Adnan.. for the record, you have not told us how much the lawsuit costs. You have answered every other question on this blog. Why wont u let us know how much u paid?
=========================== make a squad selected by Adnan and his group I feel sorry for ICC players as they are paying for my personal decision. ============================== Rup, I never said that and if it came across that way then I apologize. I hvae a lot of respect for your talent and your team and I am very confident that players from your team can compete at higher level. All is not lost here. As some of you may remember in the previous blog, Samarth Shah and Ruchir Saheba have been nominated to represent Central Zone XI. Can we make a push to the management to identify more talent to maybe participate in western region round, to be held in San Francisco in August? If we can identify five young and upcoming talent and a commitment from MWCC that will support these guys then I can talk to people to convince them to open more slots for us. Let's not look at the past. Let's talk about what we are planning for future. I like Aditya's comments about doing something more than just play league matches. We need to get some excitement going as far as Cricket is concerned. All the players whether it be Division I, II or III are itching to play some comeptitive Cricket and nothing will shake this league up more than having a world cup or All Star game organized.
"why don't you just come out and ask me instead of you beating around the bush. don't play around and ask what's the size of this or that, next, you'll wanna know how big my hands are or are my feet commensurate to my other body parts. you teaser!"
Ahh, self-flattery, thats what 15 year old school girls are into.
Let me tell you something S-l-o-w-l-y. You-are-of-no-consequence-to-me-or-anyone -here-It’s-all-in-your-head.
But you still won't understand that, and I don't blame you. As Forrest Gump put it, "Stupid is as stupid does"
ND, no way, dude! He's being good. He's hanging on it. But too much stupidity has spilled over, everywhere. The peanut's shrunk! And, the good 'Tango' is worried.
Tango, n_w, bfb, please cut it out guys. Work with us to uphold the integrity of our blog. These personal attacks on each other should be taken outside this blog. Please !!
where are the acorecards for regionals ADNAN? why ar you hiding them? =============================== Sorry! it took a while for us to get it. They are now posted on www.unitedcricket.org
neadherthal, u know 1-million bowler rank, why not u give us bhavneth is number?
guess, i agree with u about dax. he is most under-rated boler in our leauge. satish at his best is eqully good, but i feel he is inconsistant these days. just my opinion bro, no hard feeling
I guess Adnan is scared to tell us how much money he spent because he knows what a Dumbb Aa he would look like for spending such a money for no reason. May be he should have spent that money for a good cause, for exmple..Helping Brainsinballs get some mental help.
Adnan, no need for apologies. Same respect to you as you give me and ICC. Just wanted to clairify your stand on ICC. Now that the fun and insult is over lets go back to cricket issues. a whole bunch of you guys talk "cream of the crop". Are you guys just pushing your friends or just don't like some people??. I know I am getting old but how can you all leave Jack out of any MCC team. other that Shahid, I do not see any other Fast bowler/alrounder better than Jack in the league. in fact alrounder Period!!!! He is as quick as any of the pacers mentioned (other than Ruchir and the St:Louis guy, I have never seen them). He is more accurate to me than any of the Quickies I have seen. he is an excellent bat and fielder. Or is it because he palys in Div 2?.
who is more bigger dumb-aa? adan for use his money for his purpose or we for give our money for mgmt purpose? neadherthal, u have top 1-million rank for bowler, do u have top 1-million rank for dumb-aa also?
I have never played with or against Jack, so that is why I failed to name him in my list. I haven't played a number of bowlers, and so I can't rate them. And if I don't know them, they don't come to mind first.
However, for the BUNCH-OF-GUYS game, I'd like to get some help in organizing it in the following order:
1. Get a list of volunteers 2. Pick an equal set of people from all three divisions. This group will be tasked with coming up a list of "stars" and contacting them for interest without prejuidice. 3. Getting others to help figure out the logistics. 4. Playing...........
This way, we should all get a little more familiar with some of the other good players. Rup, you in for helping? If so, email me. aditya.burman@gmail.com
I am in. When do you think we can hold this event. there is no 4th of july week end off. Mini world cup (MCC event) Labor day week end. Everyone has July 14th week end off for the LA Open.
Aditya said, I have never played with or against Jack, so that is why I failed to name him in my list. I haven't played a number of bowlers, and so I can't rate them. And if I don't know them, they don't come to mind first. -------------------------- acceptable.. at least you are honest. doe this goes for the rest of ya??. If true then i can say most of the bloggers here are from DIV 1. This is also the main reason why we need an allstar event. Talant showcase!!!
Rup, great to have you in. Please email me your contact information so that we can start talking about this offline.
Adnan, great to have you in too. We definitely could do with your expertise and experience in getting such events together. Could you email me as well with your contact info?
I'm volunteering Jaggi as well, so he will be involved with this.
Anyone else?
We can all talk this weekend and figure out how big we want this to be, etc.

LOL... that is his personal expenses, why don't you post your pay stubs or bank account info. that sounds dumb, doesn't it?
The blog names just gets better everytime you look up. I wonder how long it takes to form and complete these names. Not to mention some live up to their names!!!
let me talk to my captian prasad and othe members of MUCC and see if they would be interested. owing to the long weekend, ppl make plans (esp those with families) and there might be other commitments as well.
what exactly are you planning? i know this is too early to ask, but I was wondering what format you have in mind.....any inputs, adnan, rup, jaggi.
Just a suggestion Can this be done offcially in conjuction with MCC management and so that we select and invite all the top players on all teams, and divide them into 4 teams (atleast) and play 20/20 format and make selection for LA from this lot top performers. This way, there will be no need for seperate LA trials and it will save lots of time for everyone, not to forget all players will have something to play for apart from pride..A place on MCC elite to LA open
Cricket, Management needs to step in and stop us from doing this by setting up this ASAP. They know the LA open is set but yet the set up games for both week ends of the 4th of July so when do you think there will be a mgt trials or tour before the LA open??.
ice_cold_luv_life... LOL I guess the whole United is waking up and coming to blog now. Or is it just one person with different names. Looks like you guys are getting hurt pretty bad. I guess we should take it easy on you. Feel better, no more picking on dictatorship. Tsk Tsk wipe ur tears.
This is not an official event. It's just a bunch of guys playing cricket on a weekend at some ground! ;-)
Of course, if there was an official event going on, then we'd all be playing / watching ourselves. But since there isn't, nothing to stop us from playing.
And we're not "selecting" or having trials for the LA Open. This will happen afterwards, and it's just a bunch of the "better" players having some fun and a bunch of people enjoying the long weekend. :-)
what exactly are you planning? i know this is too early to ask, but I was wondering what format you have in mind.....any inputs, adnan, rup, jaggi. ================================= I say 8 teams from MWCC and we invite 8 from other conferences and regions. We can involve local conferences in the area to gain more resources and grounds.
Sure Aditya..Little competition does n't hurt any one..keep bloging away..lots of positives coming out..If we can structure and plan properly..it will be gr8 season for the lovers of this special game..
Good luck to all teams playing this week end. ICC is not. See ya all on the blog next week. thanks Jaggi for the FYI. you have been a great middle man on some important issues addressed on this Blog.
16 team is crazy. we should have min number of game of max quality to focus the intrest. one game mcc (div 1+2) vs. acc, or one game mcc div 1 vs. dv 2, or tringular between mcc div1, mcc div2 and acc(3 games + 1 final)
generel idea is- min games of max quality. but of-course max partcipation. how u solve this is up to u :)
1. Non Long weekend: Take a break during regular season and have an all-star game. Ideally, one weekend before the LA open. That way teams that go to LA can play as a team. Make it also a carnival kind of atmosphere with food stalls, games for kids, live music etc. It should be a celebration for all MCC teams, their families and friends. Thjs will be great from a marketing point of view.. we absolutely need to get some big sponsors to our league.
2. Long Weekend: I like Adnan's idea of inviting teams from other leagues and having a bunch of games during long weekend.
I am sure that if we plan well, we can have the regionals, the all-star game and a long weekend mini tournament in one season.
Good ideas Jaggi..we can name that weekend MCC friends, Family, Sponsors appreciation weekend..so they get a chance to see what they have invested in how they are bringing the cultures togethers, see live how cricket brings everyone from every part of the work together and also families get a chacne to know the other MCC families..should be a MCC sponsored event with food stalls and stuff..and even go far suggesting...replacing Banquet with this sort of festive weekeend where family members and sponsors get to participate and enjoy including kids. we do can prize distribution ceremony also there it can be sort of gala event like a state fair or something..
maybe i am pesimist here- this is to much. two big organizatoim weekend is too much. frist let us organize a single proper all-star game............. then we can see 2 weekends, kids, parties, food stalletc. we must test the intrest and response first in all these things............... right now, we are only seeing intrest in all-star............. who is so passinate to spend time on organizing food stalls and all when we don't even have anone to ensure abthroom open in hanover park on game day.............

I dont disagree that we *can* organize all of the above, Jaggi... but I think we need to start small. There are a lot of great ideas, but most of them have gone by the wayside because of lack of hard focus IMHO. So far we've managed none of these in the past few years - lets start small, and get at least 1 organized this year, and organized *well*. If that happens, maybe we can step it up to 2 next year etc.
First of all, we know there is *something* that is MCC-organized this year - but what exactly is it? Is it an all-star game? Or a Mini-World Cup? At the AGM it was supposed to be the mini-WC, which should be fun... but as Rup said here, we do need some kind of showcase for all divisions. Lets face it, the Mini-World-Cup will see players almost exclusively from Div1 teams, we all know that - and the idea is for Div2 (with 26 teams, the most of any division in our league) to have an equal stake in this too. If its an all-star, thats taken care of by definition. If its the Mini-World-Cup... maybe we should have a Div1-India, a Div2-India, a Div1-Pakistan, a Div2-Pakistan, and a combined-WI team? (Since WI has only 2 teams in Div2, and barely 1 team in Div1)?
(Personally, I much prefer the all-star idea still. Go with an MCC-team, the one going to LA. Then a Div1-team, and a Div2 team. Since most of the LA-Open team will already be Div1 players, that will give the opportunity to all the other great Div1 players too, and Div2 can put up a pretty good allstar side IMHO. And the LA-Open team gets to play good competition as a *team* before they actually go to LA. But thats just my opinion for the best format, others may well disagree).
If we can do just this thing this year, that should be enough IMHO. The foodstalls etc will come - if we have enough interest, enough people attending, convincing people to come in and sell food cant be that hard. (If its held at Washington Park... there is a Caribbean festival already on one of the weekends there, if we do it that weekend the facilites are already there, and a couple extra food stalls may be not-so-hard to convince the Park Districts of).
I dont disagree with Adnan's idea of inviting other leagues.. but that should be very much the second priority IMHO. After all, there already *is* an annual get-together with all the league teams, called the Central-East Regional! We dont compete, but the other leagues all do.. do they have a real reason to give up another weekend of their own league cricket to visit us?
If we can focus on *one* thing right now... one single special weekend a year for the MCC, including families etc.. that would be a great thing. It could even replace the Banquet eventually - after all, the Banquet costs the league 10,000 dollars every year... this weekend will be cheaper even with money spent on organizing and maybe providing some food etc with better sponsorship... and then the extra money can be used on so many other things the league can improve - better quality balls, more grounds, more pay for umpires ;-) etc. And it will serve the purpose the Banquet does hopefully - a way for everyone, families included, to come together one weekend and have fun etc.
---------- "Mehul, Shahid, Nilesh, Raheel, Asif, Bunty..
FWIW, I agree with most of this, BTW. Bakshi's numbers have always been quite outstanding in Div1 as a bowler. Samarth played his first Div1 season last year, and endedup in the Top Five in wickets IIRC (and Samarth played at least 2 years before that in Div2, and was a Top-Five wickettaker both years I believe - at least, I remember one year he was right behind Rup in wickets I think? Rup himself should be up in any list too of course, as should Jack - despite both currently playing in Div2)
Bhavneet, BTW, is a fine bowler too of course - but Bhavneet was actually the 2nd-highest run-getter in all of Div1 last year (and, IIRC, the guy with the highest average)! Leaving him out of the "good batsman's list" is thus not quite fair :-)
I agree almost entirely (and I think pretty much everyone does) on the "cream of the crop" bowling list - there is I think a fair degree of consensus in our league about those bowlers (Shahid, Mehul, Nilesh, Asif) being at the very top. To those maybe we can add someone like Satish Reddy (at least a couple of years ago - not seen him this year obviously). And IMHO clearly one of the finest pacemen in our league is actually Wade Allen of Milwaukee, except he has hardly played the last year or two. (He played the first game this season and looked *terrific*, one of the most hostile spells Ive seen in a couple of years I think.. but has since hurt his foot and missed the last couple of matches again).
Personally, I much prefer the all-star idea still. ""
I think thats the best idea so far. This will give a chance the talent from rest of Div 1, Div 2 to compete with the players picked by Tariq. People who will perform outstanding will have a chance to still make it for LA. That way when everything is in front..hopefully he will be more likely to choose based on talent instead of his "pets".
Carnival..food..music etc is too much work. We should start with somebody small, like somebody said we dont even have somebody to organize the bathrooms r opened in hanover park..
Ok, I hate to be the party pooper, but I feel that there are some things we aren't planning properly.
The problem: 1. Having the All Star game before the LA Open would require us to schedule it sometime in the beginning of July. So we'll be selecting players based on their performance only in the first half of the season. 2. If we are planning on using the All Star game as a means for our LA Open team to practice, then we’ll have to use the 20-20 version of the game. I don’t think that makes sense, since we are selecting our All Stars based on their performances in the longer version of the game.
The solution
1. Let us schedule the All Star game during the September 8th weekend. This way we can appropriately select our players who’ve played well over the course of the whole season. 2. Schedule a couple of practice games for our LA Open team. Maybe they can play against the finalists from last years 20-20 final. We can always replace the players from these teams, who are also on the LA Open team, by other players from different teams. For example, lets schedule a couple of practice games between our LA Open team versus the Flames and Challengers. If Tushar, Daxx and Nasir are in the LA Open team, then say Ruchir or Samarth can fill in their spots on the Flames and Challengers squad. I'm sure the Challengers and Flames will relish the opportunity of playing against our LA Open team.
"maybe we should have a Div1-India, a Div2-India, a Div1-Pakistan, a Div2-Pakistan, and a combined-WI team? (Since WI has only 2 teams in Div2, and barely 1 team in Div1)"
Sadiq, what about the Lankans? I'm sure Satha will give you a earful the next time you meet him :)
Sadiq, what about the Lankans? I'm sure Satha will give you a earful the next time you meet him :) --------
Ouch. And now it looks like I may be meeting Satha this weekend itself... so I'd better clarify right away :-)
When I said "WI" above... I meant to say "islanders"! Thus, it would be a combined team of West Indians, Sri Lankans, Australians, New Zealanders, English etc (and there are no South Africans in our league anyway, so that doesnt matter). There! That gets me off the hook, right? (Though, "islanders" leaves out all Guyanese now. Damn. Withdraw that explanation too :-)
If bathrooms are not open at Hanover Park, someone has to send out an email to mgmt. One thing that I had noticed when I was in mgmt was the lack of feedback from teams and umpires. There is no way for the mgmt to know if the grass is cut or if bathrooms are not open if people dont report it. Hanover Park officials are one of the best we have and I am sure it is a very easy fix.
The family day serves two objectives. 1. It is to give back to the families and friends who have supported all the players in their passion. 2. From a pure marketing perspective, I believe that we need to showcase our strength to the outside world and start attracting advertisers. We should have a strong marketing team that can put this together and this team will work independent of the logistics team. There are a lot of capable individuals who are itching for an opportunity.
Our league has more than 800 active members. So far, we have information has not been collected well. We need data to reach out to big companies and bring in some advertising dollars.
Match Report - Rogers Park .vs. AAA @ Heritage Park
Result - Rogers Park won by 6 wickets ------------------------------- RPCC skipper, Nasir, won the toss and decided to bowl first. AAA got a steady start thanks to their opening pair of Imran Taylor and Ibrahim. AAA was 25 for no loss in the 5th over but then Ibrahim drove the ball upishly at point to Asmar and it was all downhill for AAA after that. Tight bowling by Affan, Amir, Sufian, Nasir, Asmar and superb ground fielding and catching by Rogers Park restricted AAA to just 70 in 23 overs. Rogers Park chased the total in 14 odd overs with the help of Adnan's 34 from 35 balls and a good looking 15 from debutant Faheem Malik. Rogers Park won the game with 6 wickets in hand. The game was played in good spirit and best of luck to AAA in their next match - they are a good fighting team with exceptional talent in the field.
we can have 'price is right' comptition for kids & famly for all-star to makes jaggi happy- whover guess correct how much adnan pay for lawsuit win prize. that way jaggi happy and vetipasangalas happy................
then we grow balls in winter (techonology avilable in-house) and next year all-star we gugess how much tariq pay. i here bob barker free nowdays............ comd on down??????????
Three games at Washington Park today. IIT beat Tigers, Warriors upset Arsenal (one of the biggest upsets of the season so far IMHO), and Pak Gym beat Flames.
For IIT/Tigers, from what I heard, Tigers started very well and were 106 in their first 16 overs with only 3 or so wickets down. But then a couple wickets fell, and everything tightened up, and finally Tigers ended up getting only about 169 or so in their 40 overs IIRC. IIT was 120/2 in their first 20 overs (Vasu got 38 and Laxmi 37.. they were next to us and I saw their card during the 20-over break). I think IIT may have lost 1 or 2 more wickets after break, but won fairly soon after that.
I umpired the Arsenal-Warriors game - Arsenal were missing 2 or 3 regulars (Swetal, Sanjeev etc were not playing). Even so, Arsenal was still a strong side, but their batting collapsed. They kept losing wickets very regularly, and ended up allout for 143 in about 34 overs. Warriors came out batting very steadily, very slowly, determined to hold wickets in hand (a very smart strategy). They got 44/2 in their first 20 overs, needing exactly 100 off the last 20. But they hit the accelerator post-break, helped by the odd extra etc, and were down to needing less than 50 in the last 10 IIRC with still about 6 wickets in hand. They lost their mainstay with 6 overs left... and were down to needing 37 off 35 balls with 2 kids at the crease (and I mean *kids* - both are about 16 years old probably, both train at the CSA Academy; Usama and Rony - Rony is Brian Rathood's *younger* brother... God I felt old when I heard that :-) Anyway. Those 2 came together with 37 needed off 35 balls, they hit not a single boundary.. .and they won with 2 balls to spare! Ridiculous running between the wickets, the quickest in the league probably :-) It was 4 runs needed off 4 balls, the batsman skied it to long on... fielder misjudged it, dropped it, picked it up and hurled it back in. And, in the meantime, these 2 kids ran *THREE* runs! Ridiculous! So it was 1 run needed off 3 balls.. fielders all in, they played it to the fielder 20 yards from the bat and completed the single to win it anyway :-) Terrific effort by the kids.
I didnt get to see much of the PakGym-Flames game, but it was quite one-sided all day. PakGym hit almost 80 off the first 10 overs, they were about 130/2 after 15 overs I think. When I got there during our break, they had lost 6 wickets in 30 overs... but were 210/6 with Hassan still batting! They eventually got 312 I believe - Hassan got a century, someone (maybe Imran) got 60 or so at the top, Farman and Raheel went bonkers at the end (Farman I believe hit 3 sixes in one over near the end). I saw the very end of this game as well - Flames got, I believe, something like 180 at the end. Raheel got 4 wickets.
"When I said "WI" above... I meant to say "islanders"! Sure Sadiq. But technically Guyana is part of South America, which as a whole, is also an island....a very big island.
There is no standard of size which distinguishes islands from islets and continents. So your safe :)
Purdue Vs. Challengers June 2nd, Purdue Challengers won by 5 wickets!
Purdue won the toss and decided to bat. Purdue started very aggressively with Ruchir hitting some big shots. They settled down after a few overs, but still were looking threatening @ 45 (IIRC) for no loss in 9 overs. A couple of quick wickets turned the game around as Darshan and Rupesh removed the opening pair.
Pauly came in and anchored the innings with some patient batting, but the star of the day just spun through Purdue's defences. Bhavesh had his career best 6/20(IIRC) and bundled Purdue out for 115.
Challengers lost an early wicket chasing 115, but Darshan controlled the innings with a classy 34. After losing a couple of more wickets Bhavesh 28 not out) came in and reigned in Challengers to close it out in 18 overs.
Wildcats won the toss and decided to bat. they lost Balaji early but then had a 2nd wicket partnership of about 130 runs. Sanjay made a sparkling 79 with some huge hits and great running between the wickets.Ajit came in at 140 for 2 in 26 overs. Everyone could sense that we were about to witness yet another gem from Ajit and he delivered. He spanked 82 in about 45 or so balls. There was this one six in the last over which was picked up from a good length and pulled flat over midwicket, exhilarating stuff, and very entertaining. Wildcats made 92 in the last 10 overs and ended up with 270 for 4 in 40. STL CC lost Mujahid early to a great pick up and throw from SP.Satish and Nikhil bowled well to keep the batsmen in check, which resulted in a couple more wickets. Then came a phase when Samir and Zeeshan were batting. They really upped the tempo.Samir hit a couple big sixes, one of which was the shot of the match.Flicked a flat six to midwicket, there was nothing wrong with the ball. However, he got out to some great restrictive bowling by Sanjay and then the asking rate really climbed. Krishna and Sanjay combined well to get 3 wickets each and STL CC were all out for 132.The wildcats took some great catches in the outfield and one by Satish at gully was of international level quality. Good game and a great bunch of guys to play against.
Muslim beat Milwaukee United. Apparently Farhat scored another duck and there was a huge confrontation between Farhat and Shiraz with players separating both. Whether Farhat kept his pants on is yet to be determined.
Going through today's schedule, one more record broke by Division II team. C.Giants Vs W.Suburban XI. Giants once again raped the team. Suburban only score 35 runs. Is the lowest score as far as I remember in this league.
On top of that, C.Giants two openers finished the game in 2.1 overs.
Can anyone confirm the numbers? By the way new in blog and wanted to know who are these guys (i,e., C.Giants). It seems like they keep their profile low.
Actually todays West suburban score is not the lowest in MCC. there have been plenty of occasions where teams have scored less than 35 runs....i remember Ace XI/Swingers had quite a few low scores (31, 25 )in division one back in 2004.
And check out the scorecard for the Eagles CC vs Illinois CC back on 06/15/03:
http://midwestcricket.org/asp/Score88.asp?id=604
I am pretty sure this was the lowest score recorded for any team in MCC (16 all out in 9.5 ovrs).
But as for Chicago Giants...yes they definitely seem to be a good team in Division 2 the last couple of years and it looks like they have been becoming a lot more consistent at beating very competetive teams in Div 2.
Wildcats St. Louis ----- wildcats Rogers Park AAA ----- RP Flames Pak ----- PAK Purdue Challengers ----- challenger Milwaukee muslim ----- muslim --------
Add United beating Capitol to the list. United got 221, and won by about 30 runs. Satha got an excellent typically Sathaesque 71 in the losing cause.
United Cricket Club beat Capitol Cricket Club. United Cricket Club batted first and scored 223 in 45 overs. Capitol scored 193 in 45 overs. Guess who took the prize wicket ;) There is no substitute for experience.
I agree that Giants have gotten better in past 3 years by making playoffs in last 3 years.
I personally thought that they will fall apart after a heart breaking close loss to Capitol in Semi Finals. I was wrong there but having played against this team for many years I will have to agree with RUP and say that GIANTS are Mediocre at best. On any given day teams like Madison, Advancers, Jaguars, QC Kings and Raiders will beat the crap out of this team.
As for the lowest score is concerned. I agree with Cleo that its always tough to get a team all out on 35 and kudo's to giants for this accomplishment but this is not the lowest score ever recorded in MCC. I think just last week QC Kings bowled somebody out Warriors for 29.
Capitol are great bunch of guys. We enjoyed our game with them baring one very disturbing incident. Capitol did not let United bowlers warm up on the main pitch which was jute mat laid on asphalt during the lunch break before their batting started. I think it was very unsportsmen like conduct and was very disturbed by this incident. I would understand if it was at Milwaukee Cricket Club ground where jute is laid on turf and you can damage the pitch. I was surprised at umpire Sadiq who not only brought this point to our attention but approved it. I have never heard this in my life. The excuse given to us was since they were refused to practice during playoffs at WP by some stupid team they are denying others to practice at springfield before the game starts. I understand that there is an international rule regarding this, but I am sure everybody knows the reasoning behind the international rule. Also, at international venues they have practice facilities adjacent to these grounds where you can warm up, or even you can use the outfield to warm up which are pretty even, unlike our outfields. I have nothing against any individual, but this is what separates a true sportsman from an ordinary one. I would really appreciate if this point is cleared up by the management so that the traveling team is allowed to warm up on the main pitch if there is no other facility available at the ground.
Do anyone know the result of MCC vs St.louis & sharath would you plz shed some light on Farhat & Shiraz confrontation.
---------------------------------
Justice - you are correct Shiraz is notorius for taking matter in his own hands and was suspended couple of year back for hitting players from Deccan Blues. It seems to me that whole Roger's Park team's culture is of Larakka.
I think its better to have one event this season rather than trying to accomodate one too many events. I think we should either have the all star or the regional competition during the Labor Day weekend, so that we dont interrupt the regular schedule.
We could even have 4-6 teams within our league and have a small tourney during the weekend.
The idea is to have a good cricket weekend, and I like the carnival idea.
If someone can take the lead on this, like Aditya did earlier, we could have some volunteers organize an event and see how that goes...
"The excuse given to us was since they were refused to practice during playoffs at WP by some stupid team they are denying others to practice at springfield before the game starts"
that is unsportsman like theres no harm in using concrete pitches for pract. and if someone denied capitol at wp then 2 wrongs dont make a right and common sense should be used. Having said that ive been playing in midwst for 6 yrs now and i havent really seen anyone warm up on the main pitch.
bring on it next week again. :). anyway AAA screwed me up. anyway whats up with PURDUE? i was expecting a better show. SHEKHS and CRICKETWALLAH can you talk about purdue this year? we will play them soon.
Yes, Purdue and Milwaukee United let me down big time. although, I'm stupid for picking against the Challengers. After all, they went to the final last year.
i won't pick MU this year for playoffs. if you look back, last year their batting revolved around low middle order where bhavneet and satya milked the old ball for quick runs. now without satya its a big hall there.
once again MUCC screwed up and we dug oursevles a some what deep 0-3 hole. Once again rain gods intervened and a delayed start was further affected with two 30+ min breaks that lead to the game being reduced to 35 overs a side at the univ of whitewater ground, WI.
Muslim started off in its typical format going hammer and tong from ball 1. Making good use of the 13 over rule (which "confusingly" still stood all though the number of overs were reduced) opener Kamran and later on Rizwan, Imran and Farhat showing some explosive hitting to post a very good 187 all out in 34.1 overs. Sadiq was the pick of the bowlers generating some lively pace and movement both ways as he eneded with a well earned 4 fer.
MUCC began its chase disastrously as after over 3, the scare read 6/2 with both openers, sharath and sadiq departing for individual scores of 0. This was the first instance in recent times that both openers failed this bad in a "regualr" season game together.....
this pretty much set the tempo as MUCC ended up notching 115/9 in 33 odd overs with sizeable contributions from Badri, AJ, Javed and Uday. We fielded and bowled decently, took all but one of our catches, but letting another team score 12-16 sixes in the huge but damp and slow white water ground with one of our key members Bunty not available for the weekend, proved too costly for us.
Some serious damage control needs to take place pronto and we hope we can bounce back (I guess taking heart from Purdue's 1-3 and Wildcats' 1-4 start last year IIRC). Still keeping our fingers crossed though.....great show by Muslim and all the best for their upcoming games.
On a more side note, guys I was batting when Shiraz was umpiring the ill fated Purdue-Deccan blues Div II 1/4 final game 2 years ago........i would just like to say every one involved lost their cool and acted on emotion....let us leave it at there.
About the so called confrontation between Shiraz and farhat yesterday, I did not notice any.....MUCC players were on the ground for most part of the rain break, while for a little while Muslim and Shiraz were off the field then......did some thing happen here, I dont know, but on the field, before and after the game, every one behaved well and the game was played in the right spirit.....although Shiraz I still think I was hit way high on my leg for an lbw...:))......no complaints though, I know a umpire's job is tough, just that IIRC this is the first "duck" in my career in the US.......sucks a little bit, esp when we are 0-3 down now.
Purdue is a great bunch of young guys, one of our fav road teams. These guys are extremely nice and well behaved, maybe they should get a little bit rowdy. :-)
This is my first year in Div 1, so I can only comment from my observation. I think they (Purdue) are probably a step down from their level from last year as they are missing some key players from last year. They missed Ashwin against us, as he is still in Town.
They do have the strike bowling combination of Chintan and Ruchir. Chintan was the pick of them all last weekend, shaping the ball to move either way, was unlucky not to pick any wickets. Ruchir was at his lethal best, just was missing the line a lil bit, seemd a little bothered by some injury.
so after 3-4 weeks which teams are unbeaten? pak, wildcats, united, we still dont know if milw won or lost vs st louis. Another team will be eliminated for sure next week: pak v wc.
For the first time this season, we had a nice, bright sunny day to start off. Chargers won the toss and chose to bat. Their danger batsmen Kami and Irfan, both got lives, but didnt capitalize. They were 71/4 in 20. It appears that the rain gods got the msg that we were playing at Hanover and decided to pay us a visit. We lost play for a good 75 mins. The game was then reduced to 41 overs. Rafi played a little gem towards the end to get Chargers to a defendable 170 in 41 overs. The two bowlers who may not show up in the stats were Nik and Amish. They both bowled brilliantly, varying their pace and drying out the runs.
For Phoenix, Sameer continued his good form and gave us a good start. DC, rotated the strike well and with Athreya, stiched a good partnership. After DC and Athreya left, it was left to me and Naveen to continue the fight. We needed 65 of 11. Naveen played a brilliant innings and together we brought down the equation to 15 runs required of 4 overs. Unfortunately, Naveen was run out and we now needed 11 of 18 balls. Rafi bowled a very tight over and gave away only 2 runs. Irfan bowled the penultimate over, gave one run and also got two wiks. We had to get 8 runs of the last over and it was the last wicket. Nik and I managed two doubles of the first 2 balls. With four runs required of 4 balls, I got a ball in the slot and sent it to the ropes. It truly was an amazing feeling and an all time high in my cricketing experience.
It feels great to get our first win and now have to build upon it.
Have faith in the fearless leader, he will come through at the last minute as he usually does... it'll be the regular exprienced posse, hand picked by T.A. himself, so not to worry brother, they'll end up announcing around the 9th or the 10th of July.
and there will be free loaders in it who would travel on MCC money inspite of having injury prior to the tournament and knowing they will not be able to participate. But hey, if MCC is paying why miss the free trip. I am sure everybody knows who i am talking about.
Do you know who should be contacted in case there is problem with the NRR calculations? I think I probably have made a mistake in uploading our scores (number of overs we needed to knock of the target) and that's reflecting in our NRR. Your help is greatly appreciated.
================================== Adnan please discuss performance of our MCC stars in LA as u saw, you cant tell everything from scorecards.. ================================ I saw the games live. Only Shahid and Nilesh impressed me.

Why don't you find out what this is all about, come back to me and let me know and I promise I will answer your question. Can we do that?
how are sharath, ruchir, chintan mitul his buddies...only >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Add 2 bros. from Hoffman Chargers and Altaf from Div.II also. comeon NW get a new hobbie. btw when do guys play Purdue, looking forward to that one brother.
-------- anyway whats up with PURDUE? i was expecting a better show. SHEKHS and CRICKETWALLAH can you talk about purdue this year? we will play them soon. -------
I havent seen Purdue play since last year, so I dont really know how theyre playing this year (except from the scorecards). However, on the one day I went to watch part of the CER last weekend, I met Ruchir and Chintan and talked to them, and picked up some "team news".
Overall, it seems to me that Purdue is probably going to be much weaker this year. They have lost important people - any loss out of a "regular 11" is hard, usually. They have lost Garud (who was their top rungetter last year IIRC), plus Apu and Bharadwaj (who were both regular first-11 players). And Chintan was saying that Simran Sodhi (one of the best young allrounders in the league last year, made a century and a couple fifties and bowled 9 overs in every match) is apparently an undergrad, and so off in India for the summer and wont play all year. And soon Ruchir will be leaving too, he is moving out to the east coast.
Of course, Iam sure Purdue will have other players - its a college, there are always people who show up. But until they play we cant know if theyre going to be any good :-)
This is also similar to another "away team", Milwaukee United (Ive umpired them once this year, and so actually *have* seen them play). They lost 3 first-11 regulars from last year too - Anil, Satya, and their former captain Shiv. This means they lost at least 18-25 overs of regular bowling (and, in Satya, probably their best batsman too). They have new players to replace those guys too - but until they play well in our league, we dont really know good they are. Its never easy to replace known quality players in any team (and hoping for Todd and Satya to return is probably a bit of a stretch - Satya was working in a different city at the moment, they said, and Todd ended up not playing a game for MUCC last year either).
The other team with a lot of "losses" of players this year are the Flames - they lost Zeeshan and Sufian (to Rogers Park), Mateen (to United), Ankur (moved away) etc. They have gained Venkat and TJ, and a few young players - but the young guys havent played in our league before, so we cant really know how good they are yet. Gelling new playrs into a side isnt easy - and that was probably reflected in the Flames performance this weekend against the PakGym juggernaut (a team that, in stark contrast, has lost *nobody*, and in fact gotten even stronger with the regular addition of Mohammamad Ali, formerly of Rogers Park).
-------- Sheks said: Nah, I dont think Adnan's taken any hit at us. But, it was a lil presumptuous guess you made there Adnan. --------
To be fair, the comment made earlier by "anhonestquery" was pretty obviously aimed at Tushar. Last year Tushar was the only one who was picked for LA and went to LA, and was not selected to actually play any matches there.
Tushar was picked for the side because his performances had been fantastic with both bat and ball for the previous couple years - he was a very obvious choice for the team IMHO. However, once they got to LA, I think they discovered that Tushar had hurt his shoulder and wouldnt be able to bowl, and so he didnt play. (Personally, I would have picked him for a game or two as a pure batsman anyway I think - I think he was fit enough to play as a pure batsman, just not able to bowl, right?)
I umpired the Challengers only 2 weeks ago, in Milwaukee - and Tushar batted terrifically there (got about 35 eventually). His injury is still bothering him, however, so he bowled only 2 overs (it was 2 overs for only 2 runs, and he cranked up the pace to a damn good level in the second over too, but then had to stop bowling. If he can bowl at full health, he is obviously one of the best allrounders in the league).
================================= ...However, once they got to LA, I think they discovered that Tushar had hurt his shoulder and wouldnt be able to bowl, and so he didnt play. (Personally, I would have picked him for a game or two as a pure batsman anyway I think - I think he was fit enough to play as a pure batsman, just not able to bowl, right?) ================================== Sounds to me that someone is desperately trying to justify his inclusion in the team. Discovered after they came to L.A. that he had a shoulder injury??????

Ram,
You guys managed to get a ground in Naperville last year, how did you do it?
Hey...if I win 50 million, I will donate a ground or two to MCC :)

looks like sharath (MUCC) played in the regional tournament. Sharath can you share your experience and shade some light on this Adnan dude?
the CER tournamnet was fun....best part was that I got to see the talent levels across the central east region (IL, IN, WI, MI, MN) and I sincerely felt that we MWCC were the best.
He is definitely right up there.
sharath

Based on just that day, Iam surprised Sharath didnt make it too.
c8w
Good summary CW and Sharath. I only disagree with Ruchir bowling 90mph lol. You have no idea what 90mph is. I once saw Waqar Younis when he used to play for Glamorgan in 1997 bowling in nets where bowlers hardly go all out. The ball left his hand and disappeared everytime, the TV cameras with their multiple frames per second now make it possible for us to see those deliveries at 90+ mph but believe me if you were watching with naked eye, its very unlikely you'd see it unless its at you.
staright_drive,
as i said in my earlier post, "just a thought"...i meant to say he was bowling quick, as always, but he did have an extra yard of pace last weekend...having kept for the entire season ruchir made his debut for Purdue.....i can tell you, he is genuinely quick....IIRC we did once borrow a "speed gun" i guess from the recreational sprts club at Purdue to clock him....that day dude did register in the upper 80s....may be it was just that day.....i guess may be 80 mph avg might be a widely acceptable realistic estimate.
sharath
How much does a speed gun cost.
do you guys think we can afford one in MWCC so we can check out our speedsters on different wickets.
It will be nice to know seeing we have quite a few quickies in the league now??.
$80....
it has to be probably approved in the budget of $110,000
$80.00 lousy $$$$ an we ain't got one..

Purdue over Challengers
Phoenix over Chargers
St.Louis over Milwaukee CC
Milwaukee United over Muslim Gym
United over Capitol
rup did you pay for your LA open ticket the year you were selected. I am pretty sure it was you pay you play in 2005.
No, I did not pay. Inititally it was you buy your own ticket so i guess we may have had a sponsor or i owe someone or MWCC covered the cost.
tango,
you are on. do you wnat to reason out your picks?
btw friends from other caves call me ND.:))
here are my reasons.
Wildcats St. Louis ----- wildcats - obviously better team although STL can use the spongy conditions at HP to certain extend with their slow bowlers but CATS will come through. close game.
Rogers Park AAA -----
AAA - Bowling attack of AAA will keep the cahrgers below 150.
Flames Pak -----
PAK - too much class. flames batting line up is toothless. murder waiting to happen.
Louis - spin hardend STL will negotiate asif well.

by the way..Brainsinballs, you better declare your name soon because according to your leader Adnan, dont be a p**y and separate your self from "boys to men", stop hiding and show ur name.
The only few batsmen in my opinion are:
Sohail, Shahid, Irfan, Hassan, Kiran, Tushar, Vikram, Dax, Adnan.. (even though i label him as dictator)
and in bowling:
Mehul, Shahid, Nilesh, Raheel, Asif, Bunty..
Raheel is about as good as CD and Ruchir (They are all youngsters and they are all very gifted)
But surely, Mehul, Asif, Shahid and Nilesh are the 'cream of the crop' as far as bowling is concerned.
Maybe they turned down the offer to play. I mean, you think Adnan is not going to select Mehul?
I just compared Bakshi as a batsman above.
As a bowler you are right, he is probably one of the best spinners (although his chucking is always in question)
"I just compared Bakshi as a batsman above."
Ok, then you right. As a batsman, he'll probably bat at number 10, just before Samarth ;)

Ice_Cold first of all thank you for even mentioning me in the same breadth as the other great batsmen in this league.

Predications of week#4 Div 1
1.Wildcats will easily win over St.loius.

M.V.P. for the month of May.
Sohail alvi or Afroze siddiqui.
well rup satha is in div 1 now and that was the reason allstar game got popularity last season because ppl wanted to see how satha will perform against div 1 bowlers. so far hes got a first ball duck and 43. thats an av of 21.5 and in div 2 he averaged 109. you were 2nd with 48.5 so you can imagine what your av will be in div 1 if u make it ;).
4.5 if i am lucky.
well, I'm sure Maninder Bola can make it to the MWCC team
although I haven't seen him play.

Rup,
I think the one with Azhar and someone else.
IIRC, I think it was India vs Pakistan. So you weren't eligible to play.
But since some Division II players turned down the invitation, all Division II players are 'cowards' :)
Also, a few Division I players also turned down the invitations, but they all grew balls in winter.

Therefore we are 1 hour ahead of Chicago.

what people fail to realize or accept here the fact that Adnan organize these events to promote himself while giving his henchmen a chance to play. but to be fair to him, he is organizing these events as an individual not as a MWCC official. so he is entitled to do whatever he wants to do.
If this is the reason why no ICC player will ever make a squad selected by Adnan and his group I feel sorry for ICC players as they are paying for my personal decision.
what about poeple show up to watch the games? they are also andan's henchmen?

And finally, a big thanks to all the MCC folks who showed up on the long weekend to watch our games.
===
can anyu one inform who else presnet?
Priyank from Phoenix.
time...there is the promoting himself part
Aditya,
Adnan has every right to choose whoever he wants. He's not representing the MWCC, nor does he owe anyone an explanation.
But he did give preference to his friends and teammates. And its pretty idiotic for him to justify that he didn't.
tingoo, mango, sorry... tango why don't you organize something and get people to play? then we'll have a ball(brain) on this blog about talking crap about you!!!
oh, i fortgot you are nobody, right, just a bufoon who wants to spout out idiotic comments without thinking first!
Tango,
Fair enough.
This is why, our league is barely functioning, instead of growing and thriving.
ballsinbrain,
Oh Gou Mata!
If your brain can't process what I am saying, then blame God! He's the one who gave you a limited IQ.
Aditya,
I disagree with you on #1.
Why are people questioning who Adnan selects for a team he puts up for the regionals? If he wanted, he could have taken all ACC players. It is his perogative!
-------------------
This is the problem with cricket all over the US and that is why I don't see Us cricket improve unless people running the show change their ways of thinking.
A successful individual has got to pick himself up and try again if not succeed at the first time. Because some one did not do something then, does not mean will not do it now given the conditions have changed.
If you take on a responsiblity then it's your obligation to fulfill that role without malice or prejudice.
Dumbness,
What does me organizing an event have anything to do with this?

Neandy, do you even play? no, i don't mean pocket pool... or do you stay at home on the weekends and just read the blogs? who are you playing this weekend and are you going to beat them? i got funny feeling you are beating something...
"Bring it up a notch there buddy. some of my best material is being wasted on you"
LOL, so you have limited material which you use to justify your stupidity.
I wonder what's the size of your brain. Is it bigger than a peanut?
why don't you just come out and ask me instead of you beating around the bush. don't play around and ask what's the size of this or that, next, you'll wanna know how big my hands are or are my feet commensurate to my other body parts.
you teaser!
Adnan.. for the record, you have not told us how much the lawsuit costs. You have answered every other question on this blog. Why wont u let us know how much u paid?
where are the acorecards for regionals ADNAN? why ar you hiding them?
===========================
make a squad selected by Adnan and his group I feel sorry for ICC players as they are paying for my personal decision.
==============================
Rup, I never said that and if it came across that way then I apologize. All the players whether it be Division I, II or III are itching to play some comeptitive Cricket and nothing will shake this league up more than having a world cup or All Star game organized.

jaggi,
u know we all love you.
i bet you laughed on my joke. i'm working on some material trying to do stand up off season.
get a rest man i won't be doing nothing for while. my boss in on my neck
neadherthal, u know 1-million bowler rank, why not u give us bhavneth is number?
guess, i agree with u about dax. he is most under-rated boler in our leauge. satish at his best is eqully good, but i feel he is inconsistant these days. just my opinion bro, no hard feeling
Rup,
I have never played with or against Jack, so that is why I failed to name him in my list. I haven't played a number of bowlers, and so I can't rate them. And if I don't know them, they don't come to mind first.
However, for the BUNCH-OF-GUYS game, I'd like to get some help in organizing it in the following order:
1. Get a list of volunteers
If so, email me. aditya.burman@gmail.com

acceptable.. at least you are honest. doe this goes for the rest of ya??.

The blog names just gets better everytime you look up.
I wonder how long it takes to form and complete these names.
Not to mention some live up to their names!!!
aditya,
let me talk to my captian prasad and othe members of MUCC and see if they would be interested. owing to the long weekend, ppl make plans (esp those with families) and there might be other commitments as well.
what exactly are you planning? i know this is too early to ask, but I was wondering what format you have in mind.....any inputs, adnan, rup, jaggi.
sharath
Just a suggestion Can this be done offcially in conjuction with MCC management and so that we select and invite all the top players on all teams, and divide them into 4 teams (atleast) and play 20/20 format and make selection for LA from this lot top performers. This way, there will be no need for seperate LA trials and it will save lots of time for everyone, not to forget all players will have something to play for apart from pride..A place on MCC elite to LA open
Cricket,
Management needs to step in and stop us from doing this by setting up this ASAP.
They know the LA open is set but yet the set up games for both week ends of the 4th of July so when do you think there will be a mgt trials or tour before the LA open??.
ice_cold_luv_life... LOL
I guess the whole United is waking up and coming to blog now. Or is it just one person with different names.
Looks like you guys are getting hurt pretty bad. I guess we should take it easy on you.
Feel better, no more picking on dictatorship. Tsk Tsk wipe ur tears.
RUP.....just scored 10 points by taking a shot at mgmt at the expense of aityas' idea.
nice going rup
Cricket,
This is not an official event.
Hopefully, you will be one of them!

By the way,
I was just informed by Jaggi that there will be an MCC hosted All-Star game.
Great. If this is on, then we don't need to meet and play, coz there will finally be a game!!!
If not, then we'll do something ourselves. I'm tired of not seeing stuff happen, but if it does, I'm all in support of it.
Aditya
Maybe another weekend? I like Adnan's idea. Some competition will be good.
My 2 cents:
I am sure that if we plan well, we can have the regionals, the all-star game and a long weekend mini tournament in one season.
and of-cousre min game means min orgnization probs. 16 team logistics is killer.

"Mehul, Shahid, Nilesh, Raheel, Asif, Bunty..
To add CD, Ruchir, Bakshi, Samarth to the list of above players is nothing but a disrespect to the above."
Both Samarth and Bakshi have better numbers than Bunty.
Raheel is about as good as CD and Ruchir (They are all youngsters and they are all very gifted)
But surely, Mehul, Asif, Shahid and Nilesh are the 'cream of the crop' as far as bowling is concerned.
-------
FWIW, I agree with most of this, BTW.
(He played the first game this season and looked *terrific*, one of the most hostile spells Ive seen in a couple of years I think.. but has since hurt his foot and missed the last couple of matches again).
c8w
Personally, I much prefer the all-star idea still. Go with an MCC-team, the one going to LA. Then a Div1-team, and a Div2 team. And the LA-Open team gets to play good competition as a *team* before they actually go to LA.
The problem:

We need data to reach out to big companies and bring in some advertising dollars.
any score updates on the games played today?
Match Report - Rogers Park .vs. AAA @ Heritage Park
Result - Rogers Park won by 6 wickets
-------------------------------
RPCC skipper, Nasir, won the toss and decided to bowl first. The game was played in good spirit and best of luck to AAA in their next match - they are a good fighting team with exceptional talent in the field.

then we grow balls in winter (techonology avilable in-house) and next year all-star we gugess how much tariq pay. i here bob barker free nowdays............ comd on down??????????

Sure Sadiq. But technically Guyana is part of South America, which as a whole, is also an island....a very big island.
There is no standard of size which distinguishes islands from islets and continents. So your safe :)
Purdue Vs. Challengers
June 2nd, Purdue
Challengers won by 5 wickets!
St.Louis CC v/s Wildcats

Thanks for the updates. I will have to agree with CricketWalah that Warriors beating Arsenal was a major upset this early in season. Wow.
It seems like they keep their profile low.

i called 4 correct and you got 3 so far.
Kool bat,
Actually todays West suburban score is not the lowest in MCC. there have been plenty of occasions where teams have scored less than 35 runs....i remember Ace XI/Swingers had quite a few low scores (31, 25 )in division one back in 2004.

Guess who took the prize wicket ;)

Do anyone know the result of MCC vs St.louis & sharath would you plz shed some light on Farhat & Shiraz confrontation.
both of those guys (Farhat n Shiraz) have a history didnt Shiraz get into a fight with some team and got suspended for a few games?
Cleo and Kool Bat,
I agree that Giants have gotten better in past 3 years by making playoffs in last 3 years.
I personally thought that they will fall apart after a heart breaking close loss to Capitol in Semi Finals. I was wrong there but having played against this team
for many years I will have to agree with RUP and say that GIANTS are Mediocre at best.

---------------------------------
Justice - you are correct Shiraz is notorius for taking matter in his own hands and was suspended couple of year back for hitting players from Deccan Blues. It seems to me that whole Roger's Park team's culture is of Larakka.
Going back to Jaggi and others..
WTF?
Come on Satha, your better than that.
Anyone knows the result of stL v Milw?
that is unsportsman like theres no harm in using concrete pitches for pract. and if someone denied capitol at wp then 2 wrongs dont make a right and common sense should be used. Having said that ive been playing in midwst for 6 yrs now and i havent really seen anyone warm up on the main pitch.

St.Louis MCC doesn't matter, since we both picked the same team.
So we're tied for this week. I'm going to have to bring in my 'A' game for next week. :)
tango,
bring on it next week again. :). anyway AAA screwed me up. anyway whats up with PURDUE? i was expecting a better show. SHEKHS and CRICKETWALLAH can you talk about purdue this year? we will play them soon.
Yes, Purdue and Milwaukee United let me down big time. although, I'm stupid for picking against the Challengers. After all, they went to the final last year.
tango,
i won't pick MU this year for playoffs. if you look back, last year their batting revolved around low middle order where bhavneet and satya milked the old ball for quick runs. now without satya its a big hall there.
Well I wouldn't count them out just yet. I'm sure they can turn things around once Satya and Todd get back.
morning folks,
once again MUCC screwed up and we dug oursevles a some what deep 0-3 hole.
About the so called confrontation between Shiraz and farhat yesterday, I did not notice any.....MUCC players were on the ground for most part of the rain break, while for a little while Muslim and Shiraz were off the field then......did some thing happen here, I dont know, but on the field, before and after the game, every one behaved well and the game was played in the right spirit.....although Shiraz I still think I was hit way high on my leg for an lbw...:))......no complaints though, I know a umpire's job is tough, just that IIRC this is the first "duck" in my career in the US.......sucks a little bit, esp when we are 0-3 down now.
sharath
Another team will be eliminated for sure next week: pak v wc.
shekhs,
thanks, seem like PURDUE doesnt have much batting depth. scorecard against challengers look like a digital code.:))
Yep it does. Too many checked drives and Bhavesh bowled a good line and length. I am sure we'll do better in the coming weeks.
Phoenix Vs Chargers
Sreedhar, was solid again while umpiring.
sources close to ADNAN told me that they have already picked the team for LA open. where is the "official" MWCC team?
lets open this can of worms again
Have faith in the fearless leader, he will come through at the last minute as he usually does...
it'll be the regular exprienced posse, hand picked by T.A. himself, so not to worry brother, they'll end up announcing around the 9th or the 10th of July.
and there will be free loaders in it who would travel on MCC money inspite of having injury prior to the tournament and knowing they will not be able to participate. But hey, if MCC is paying why miss the free trip. I am sure everybody knows who i am talking about.

Jaggi,
Do you know who should be contacted in case there is problem with the NRR calculations? I think I probably have made a mistake in uploading our scores (number of overs we needed to knock of the target) and that's reflecting in our NRR. Your help is greatly appreciated.

you didnt pick any of them in ur team and now write against them.

anyway whats up with PURDUE? i was expecting a better show. SHEKHS and CRICKETWALLAH can you talk about purdue this year? we will play them soon.
-------
I havent seen Purdue play since last year, so I dont really know how theyre playing this year (except from the scorecards).

Sounds to me that someone is desperately trying to justify his inclusion in the team. Discovered after they came to L.A. that he had a shoulder injury??????
