Guys.. am on the blog for a very short time today. I know there is one more que that I need to answer about the MVP, which I will do so tomorrow. The Tigers and the Flames game was postponed due to weather conditions. We are trying to see if that game can happen tomorrow. The results of this game does affect the standings(for Flames). The playoff schedule will be out as soon as this game is done. Jack, the playoffs will start fdrom the 16th. More details will be out after this weekend's games.
1. Wildcats 90-10 - Defending champs. We have not seen some of the stars shine yet and yet they are peaking. 2. Pak Gymkhana 80-20 - They mean business. 3. Challengers 70-30 - Experience in the playoffs and that makes a big difference. They know what it takes to win. 4. Purdue 70-30 - They have a threatening roster, I would say are the dark horses this year. 5. St.Louis 60-40. Seasoned veterans, plus the united front can spring some surprises. 6. Milwaukee United 50-50 - Not convincing yet, but still could be dangerous. 7. Muslim Gym 40-60 - Maybe one upset, can't see them go beyond the second round. 8. Bears/Flames - get ready for a first round spanking at the hands of Pak Gymkhana (I agree with pud_thai here.. :-) )
I hungout at "The Bar" on buena street off of sheridan with some old school buddies. It was more of a football night watching ND come back against georgia tech.
"A player cannot play in both Div 1 and Div 2 in the same season without a formal transfer registered with the league. However, any player can play in either Div 1 or Div 2 while at the same time play in Div 30/30 or Abid Laheri Tournament(NIGHT) in the same season without any formal transfers"
devils_advocate, Is that a rule in the MWCC constitution? Just curious..
"9.1.2. The player wanting to get transferred to another team shall have to provide a 10 days written notice to the old team with a copy to the League, before he can play for the new team. Committee shall review each case and convey their decision in writing, providing them with a date from which the player will stand transferred"
cricketandlife, Thats does not explicitly state that it is applicable between teams in 2 different leagues. I was wondering if there is any rule preventing a player to play in DIV I and DIV II at the same time..
devils_advocate said.. "True...it does seem very wierd that Venkat Ramani was allowed to play for PCC before the 10 day grace period as specified in the MCC rules. Is it coincidence that there is another Venkat Ramani in the league or is this a special circumstance which was approved by the Flames/MCC management ?? :) "
Well, Venkat Ramani is technically correct, as we just exposed the division "exclusivity" loop hole.. He does not even need an approval I presume..
Madew, I dont think there is anything wrong in Venkat playing for Flames or PCC. I think he did the right thing, so that he could play some cricket.
I was intrigued by the fact that a lot of DIV I players are playing in 30 over div, which could be our DIV III, so ended up popping a wrong question, I guess.. :-)
Rup, its Jul 15, not jun 30. Not that it makes any difference..
Thanks Romeen for the good luck (and for missing me ;)) - my blogging career has been nipped in the bud by this new job - they do not allow access to *any* sports sites, no cricinfo, no midwestcricket, you even have to request a quota time to access yahoo / hotmail / any web based email! I'm thinking of finding another job ;).
Some good discussions goin on and some exciting games coming up. I debuted my umpiring career in the Purdue v Flames match and saw the game from another perspective!
Regarding the opening batsmen I have mentioned before the Romeen is very good technically and as Nasir would testify we called him 'Dravid' as he doesn't take many chances. Hassan bhai is definitely class even now that age is catching up with him a bit. He hits those drives over cover which are an absolute treat to watch, - unless you're the bowler :P. That 84* he hit vs MUCC has to be one of the best if not the best inns that I have seen in my 3-odd years in MWCC.
The NRR in night tournament is infact calculated falsely. We scored 326 in 36.2 overs so RR for is 9. RR against should be 252 in 40 (since if a team is dismissed before 20 overs the RR is calculated as if the 20 overs were bowled). That gives us a NRR of 9-6.3 = 2.70, which would put us at #1. Anyone from management wants to clarify that more?
Guys.. Yes, there was and still is an issue and I have been told that its deeper than what was originally thought. We are sitting down this weekend and manually computing the NRR. Infact, the process has already started. We have a no of issues with teams not having entered scores etc. We should have it resolved by this weekend.
Vijay, both you and I stand corrected about our wicketkeeper. Infact, Anand did not play that game against you guys(I didnt either). So, we have two keepers who can talk well :-)
Hopefully, weather doesnt play spoil sport for any of the games.
We got another huge game for us this weekend against the Challengers. Last year(in the quarters), we lost our way from a winning position.. needed 70 odd runs with 8 wiks in hand and plenty of overs to go. Nilesh Patel took 5 wiks(all bowled, I think). Hopefully, things will be better this year. Hello Tushar :-)
GorillaUnit says.. Jaggi I don't understand hte points breakdown for MVP. I read the explanation you had given in the June MVP post, it still doesnt make any sense to me. Lets take this month for example, Afroze has scored 149 runs and captured 9 wickets, and he has been awarded 31 points. Can you plz give me a breakdown of how he gets 31 points? -----------------------------------
Afroze
Scored 63 and 1 Wik= 6 batting points and 1 bowling point = 7
Scored 25 and 3 wiks = 4 batting points and 4 bowling points = 8
Scored 43 and 3 wiks = 5 batting points and 4 bowling points. 1 MVP Point(Bears won and he scored more than 20% of the team's score). = 10
Scored 28 and 2 Wiks = 4 batting points and 2 bowling points = 6
Total = 31 Points
Simran
Scored 28 and 0 Wik= 4 batting points and 0 bowling point = 4
Scored 43 and 1 wik = 5 batting points and 1 bowling point = 6
Scored 64 and 0 wik = 6 batting points and 0 bowling points. 1 MVP Point(Purdue won and he scored more than 20% of the team's score). = 7
Scored 111 and 1 wik = 10 batting points and 1 bowling point. 3 MVP Point(Purdue won and he scored more than 30% of the team's score). = 14
Guys, correction here - our (NRR upon recalculation by hand) is 2.3, so I guess we are at #2 position although the NRR is different than the one posted on points table.
I think Aqib took 2-22 in 10 overs (off the top of my head, I didn't look at the scorecard) in that 1992 WC final, yet everyone remembers Akram's bowling (he even won the MoM for that) - his stats were: 3-49, it was the impact that those wickets had on the game that was more important rather than just plain # of wickets / RPO. Few years back Wisden came up with the top bowlers in the history of ODI's - #1 was Akram (obviously) - can you guys guess #2 and 3 without looking it up?
Sadiq, I agree that the MVP system does not include the economy rate. Will work on this over the weekend. Rup, had sent me an email earlier with a similar suggestion.
Aparijithan, nice idea about trying to find the correlation between wiks and runs.
At present, anything less than 15 runs get 0 points. Anything > 15, gets 2 points. Now that I hear from you all, it may be a bit much. For next year, I will tweak the batting points slightly.
We will use only the regular season data to come up with MVP of the season. Last year, we used only the finals to come up with the MVP of the finals. We have not had a MVP of the playoffs, not sure if we will have one.
As expected, WC beat Flames by 5 wkts with 12 overs to spare Wildcats in the playoff
Maintaining the moment from the last 6 games, WC just completed a controlled performance to get into the the play-offs.
I sure, many teams wishing the position between 1-8, just to avoid WC in their earlier rounds of play-offs. Lets see how the rest of the games turns out this weekend.
We wasted a great start..vinod was on fire.. we were 80 odd for 1, but lost our way from there and were all out for 147. Naveen Ganne was not out on 25.. he plaed a great innings.
Challengers also got a good start, but lost 4-5 wiks, before DAXX and Tushar calmly took them home.
All in all a bad day for me, was LBW to Sanjay, reinjured my broken thumb and didnt bowl well. Will drown my sorrows in some Bacardi !!

are there playoff rules that we can refer to?
Huda Mida Gentlemen !
My Prediction

2. Pak Gymkhana 80-20 - They mean business.

I mean gorillaunit...
I have a question for everybody to ponder about this afternoon...
Can a DIV I player play in a DIV II team the same season, or vice versa..
Coz, I see a lot of DIV I and DIV II players play in the 30 over version...
any takers?
hey 1down,
Weekend was very interesting..
I hungout at "The Bar" on buena street off of sheridan with some old school buddies. It was more of a football night watching ND come back against georgia tech.
I didnt make it to the desi party.
Good for you, seems like you had a good weekend..

Its all good cricketandlife..
I didnt think there would be a hard rule instated to prevent players from playing in DIV I and II at the same time.
you can't just say "its obvious", can you :-)
I was wondering if there was any rule...
Thanks for helping out..

I think Purdue definitely is a fav. when it comes to playing STL or Mil United, regardless of the pitch type.
They have a deep roster and its hard to figure out their best 11.

Romeen,
It would be fun to get out and put some faces to these names..and of course to find out all the secret identities..
I'm up for it...
I think we should all get together for a drink one of these days.
You never know Romeen. :-)
This is fun..
I'm interested in knowing the guesses. Whats your email Romeen?
Hi all,

Did you guys play in the night against Flames ?
Vipul
welcome back Mehul
Good luck for the Game.
Cheers
Vipul
Raheel
Have seen this Movie? The Chronicles of Riddick - FYI I think you look like Karl Urban.. He was also in the "The Lord of the Rings"
Cheers
Vipul
Raheel
Hope you don't take this in any negative way.
Vipul
Raheel.. I didnt realize I was talking to you on Sat. Good to know that all went well with your umpiring.
I feel terrible saying this, but we gave a walkover to Flames. A few of us were ready to play and a few were not.
Guys.. please remember to submit your cricket fantasy team next week. Will post the details soon.
Guys, correction here - our (NRR upon recalculation by hand) is 2.3, so I guess we are at #2 position although the NRR is different than the one posted on points table.
lol @ your name chiquita...one hell of a name...I can't stop cracking up..
yeah, that would be from both divisions..fantasy team..
For this year, lets only stick to Div-1 and Div-2 players and yes you can combine them.
The other 2 bowlers were Donald and Waqar (econ: ~4.60, BUT 400+ wickets).
donno if anybody is watching the game.. Razzak is one fire. Brilliant stuff !!
on fire
Last 4 overs for 69 runs.... Thats some hitting !!
Guys.. the night tournament schedule is out. Hope to see you all out there !!
To those with digital video camera's, please do take some video. End of the season, we can compile them all and create a good video.
Thank you guys for pointing it out, we will fix it ASAP.
Hey, any updates on the games today ?
tushar,
wow, u r quick and great update ;-) !!!
I just logged on to this blog and its very interesting comments and discussions
who is this vijay ?
Nope, I'm sitting in a class now.
But can't stay out of touch with progress
Talking about crucial game, the last 5-6 games were crucial as well !!
Update on WC v Flames game
Flames 46/4 in 20 overs
Anybody wanna take a guess on the total ?
Any other updates ?
WC needs 151 to win, Flames scored 150/9 in 45 overs
Balaji, what about doing a running commentary - cricinfo style ;)
Raheel, I wish I coudl do that !!!!
WC 52/2 in 11 overs (chasing 151)
Bears batting first were 127 odd for the loss of 7 wkts against Kutis
I heard Muslim were 115/4 in 16-18 overs.
WC are 72/4 in 18overs
WC are 72/4 in 18overs
Seems like its getting interesting - WP in cloudy conditions is never easy, there are always low scoring games.
WC 119/4 in 26 overs
Seems like Satish saves his best for the crunch games !
As expected, WC beat Flames by 5 wkts with 12 overs to spare
Wildcats in the playoff
Maintaining the moment from the last 6 games, WC just completed a controlled performance to get into the the play-offs.
I sure, many teams wishing the position between 1-8, just to avoid WC in their earlier rounds of play-offs. Lets see how the rest of the games turns out this weekend.
Like most of us, I'm guess either
Like most of us, my guess would be either MUCC or Kutis will be there for WC for the first round
Its pretty dark here in Hoffman estates, It may rain in another 15-30 mins. Let's see how it works for the game at Hanover park
What happened in the United v Muslim match (United won but any details?) - also I heard Bears scored 190 and had St. Louis at 84-4.
We wasted a great start..vinod was on fire.. we were 80 odd for 1, but lost our way from there and were all out for 147. Naveen Ganne was not out on 25.. he plaed a great innings.

Thanks, what a season guys, nothing is certain (regarding playoffs) till the last match ;).
Guys.. lets move to the new thread
