Discussion Board: Week of Sept 23/24

Discussion Board for games played during weekend of Sept 23/24. Lets hope rain does not ruin this weekend also.

  1. Did any matches take place today besides the Pak-Muslim QF? Any info?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Guys, which matches need to be completed at WP tomorrow other than the ICC v Peoria. Forecast for tomorrow is partially cloudy with no rain and high of 62 ;). So I guess we'll get some cricket tomorrow after all.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Any chance of Div 1 Semis tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  4. BTW Sadiq bhai, I did a search on IIRC acronym and found the following common matches (among many others):

    - If I Recall/Remember Correctly
    - If I Really Cared
    - If It Really Counts
    - If I Read Correctly
    - Isn't It Really Cool

which one do you mean when you write IIRC? ;)

  5. lol t_p, put it in one of the sentences and see what it sounds like ;)

Purdue went from needing 49 to win to needing 28 to win off about 8 overs if I really cared...

  6. ok Vijay:

Purdue went from needing 49 to win to needing 28 to win off about 8 overs isn't it really cool ..

  7. Finally got to meet Jaggi.. You are doing one heck of a job out there. You pretty much represented the entire management. It was good to see how well you handled the Purdue St Louis conflict. Lage Raho Jaggi Bhai.

  8. Morning people, any updates on the 8am matches?

    ReplyDelete
  9. hey vijay any semi finals being played today for division one like pak and st.louis

    ReplyDelete
  10. We won by 7 wickets .. pretty comfortably as well - Challenegers fought back magnificiently and put up 191 after being 90-7 and had MUCC 5 down for around 70 I think?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Daxx, Nilesh and Sanjay scored for Chall I think. Bakhshi bowled very well, got 2-16 in 9 ovs, but didn't do much with the bat - 10 or thereabouts.

    ReplyDelete
  12. i cant beleive that Giants pulled of a win against #2 Ranked IIT. Congrats to the Giants team and good luck next week against the SUPER BATSMAN SATHA.

    ReplyDelete
  13. HEY SATHA I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION. ARE YOUR SURE THAT YOUR BAT IS LEGAL? ( NO CORK OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT) just wondering and its something i have always wondered about, but i hope you dont find it offensivebecause i really admire your batting abilities.

  15. Serves St. Louis right (being totally smashed by Pak Gym) for winning due to 'umpiring error'.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Purdue was asked to continue the game when every other game was called off. I dont understand why Tariq has to be called at all? The guy is in Philli for god's sake and how can he make a call sitting back at home?
Jaggi was there and he was right when all the games were called off.
Why did Yousef start behaving so strangely? He called Tariq and after that wanted Purdue to come back and play? He was the captain of Flames this year and has to be more responsible about his duties as an umpire. I asked Jaggi as to why Purdue was forced into this game. He told me that the umpire had the final call and there was nothing he(from a management perspective) could do. But, this was totally unusual behavior from an umpire. Even Sadiq was not very sure about playing due to the conditions. On Sat, Purdue was forced to play 2 more overs(one of the batsmen slipped and fell while taking a run) and then it was called off due to bad light.
With all due respect to the management, I think they should reconsider their roles. Tariq sits a million miles away and so does the vice president(anybody knows his name??). The VP of div-1 Kiran is no where to be seen. Jaggi, am a big fan of what you have done, but you are being wasted in this management. Where was the grounds committee head to make sure the grounds were ok? There was one more guy from the management in the ground - Marghoob. Can someone teach the man some manners? When the prof from Purdue asked him as to why the umpires were switched(Sadiq was moved to a different game), he was extremely rude and said if Purdue didnt play, the game would be forfeited. Jaggi was there when that happened and he apologized for Marghoob's behavior later on.
yesterday was truly a sad day.. A good team was robbed by this ugly piece of umpiring. Someone please talk to Shiva who was in line with the leg-umpire and he will tell you how blatant that call was.

  17. I have one more issue to bring up - Pak Gymkhana. Yes, I respect that it is their fasting month, but why did they not provide any lunch/water to St Louis team? I truly hope that they dont expect every other team to fast?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hey Tushar how did Daxx do in the semis? i hope he did real well. check this out

    QF DIV 1 Daxx takes a 5fer
QF DIV 1 Shahid hits 70 odd
QF Div 2 Hafez Adam hits 83 not out and then takes 3 wickets in the first two overs!!
QF DIV 2 Jack hits 51
QF DIV 2 Rup hits 46

    Thanks alot guys.

Thats alot of points for my dream team. Anyone who had Adam on their team really struck it rich!!!!

Jaggi any idea when the points will be added up?

    ReplyDelete
  19. JAGGI WHEN WILL THE FANTASY TEAM POINTS TABLE BE UPDATED??And also lets say i have Imran Syed from Muslim and he fetched me 20 points but now since Muslim is out and i change him will i lose those points???

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm here guys, just busy with work etc. There was a lot of trash talk etc. that frankly I have nothing to say about.

    -----------------------------------

I have been waiting for all teams to enter their scores. Whatever points you have received in the past, will stay.

Guys, I am sick with cold, cough .... Will respond ina day or two to some of the comments.
Dragging Tariq, Flames, IIT etc into this is definitely in poor taste.

  22. dejected loser, please stop BS-ing other teams now that you have lost, your season is over go and hit the books kiddo. You seriously think that you would've fared better than St. Louis if Mr. Sadiq had somehow saved your sorry ass? They scored 99 vs Pak Gym, how many would you have gotten? What happened the last time you had played them? Didn't you lose by a 100 runs or so?

Everyone, stop criticizing umpires and shit, few more games are left in the season, lets enjoy that instead of playing the blame game!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Fair play, Bakhshi has nothing better to do and lives 2 mins away from HP. Raheel umpired your game because no one trusted Sadiq Yusuf who was the designated umpire that day, and even though you won by a good margin, everyone was happy with Raheel umpiring, if Sadiq had been there, rest assured a mini-riot would've taken place. You were lucky to reach the QF, let's leave it at that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. So final time - after the long season and people predicting few dark horses like Phoenix, Purdue, even Muslim to take the Championship, the 2 teams left are the ones that by consensus are the hardest to beat. Pak Gym with perhaps the best bowling lineup and really explosive strokeplay vs the Challengers - 2 time champs with a bowling line up thats only 2nd to Pak Gym's if anyone and batting line up that doesn't know when to give up backed up by air tight fielding.

The semi final performances of the two teams sum up their strengths this season.

Pak's pace attack destroyed St. Louis' top order from which they never recovered. I saw from the sidelines as Farman took 2 in one over (bowled and lbw) and Raheel got the big one (Sohail Alvi) bowled through the gate clean as a whistle and then Shahid came on and carted yet another stump out of the ground - the first 4 wickets were all unassisted (except lbw that required a finger of death to go up ;) )! STL were bundled for 99 and Pak barely broke sweat in getting there with 7 wickets in hand.

Challenegers' top order didn't do any better than St. Louis and at 90-7 they looked buried. But then excellent rearguard batting from Sanjay, Nilesh and Bandish (they added 100!) took them nearer to that 200 mark, which is a good score at WP. Challengers' bowling and fielding did the rest as MUCC fought valiantly but eventually came up short.

Pak would have the psychological advantage going in the final, but only a brave person will bet against the Challengers making it 3 trophies in 5 seasons. So, even-stevens at this stage and may the better team on the day win!

    ReplyDelete
  25. fair play, I'm not from Pak Gym you idiot, I appreciate good cricket from Challengers, Wildcats etc as much as PG. At this point you just seem like a sore ass loser who doesn't have anything better to do - YOU LOST, stop trying to play 20 questions and guessing identities. I just don't like cry babies like you.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I was one of the 15-odd people who watched the start of Pak vs STL match and left after it looked like St louis were doomed, watched more of the Challengers' match instead. Hey, if you had stayed at WP and watched some cricket instead of crying and leaving with tail firmly tucked between the legs, you might have known some details too ;). It's not 'exact details' to see stumps flying and lbws being awarded.

  27. why bakshi came to ground

common kowledge league-wide, but oh you people live in the corn lands of Indiana.

    why raheel umpire purdue game

    found out from Flames' players.

Good try Sherlock lol. Don't over-stress that lil brain of yours, you will need it come the finals.

  28. Now are you gonna say I'm a FLAMES player? hehe

  29. hey Rup thanx to u and jack i piled up some more points in fantasy land. Thanx Alot man.

Here are my pics this week:

    Div 1

    Challengers over Pak

    Div 2

Capitol over Giants by a huge margin. Madan takes 7

AAA over ICC real close game by the way.

No disrespect to you Rup but I believe they have a better chance!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dude Rup i thought Peoria would pull off an upset but Aaron really showed what he can do if he is given a chance. Good luck to you and ill make sure ill introduce myself to you on Saturday as i will be there.

  31. Fair_Play

Books are for those who are cultured...for those you think that require it, they actually need driving lessons from Yellow Cab...so don't waste your time dealing with these thugs.

they are bunch of idiots...with no regards for decency and civility, they think winning this championship is all it takes for proving their existence in this world or path to some f*&^%$#@ glory...they don't know that there are other means of success as well. Little do they know that success is a journey...ofcourse, they wouldn't know about it...that's the power of books!

good luck for you guys next season.

    ReplyDelete
  32. So no one thinks we will win ... hmm ... thats motivation right there! hehe. Purdue guys, you are pissing on yourself really, I don't know who MCC Player is - as far as I know no one else from Pak Gym writes on here (only I have that much time to burn) - but your hatered is pretty apparent - why?! You guys lost through no fault of ours, we had a pretty good tempered game when we played and even when I umpired. You guys are in grad school - big deal, so was I and a lot of other people, it does not make you a better person. Good luck with your tape ball cricket at Purdue.

  34. Guys.. lets please keep the umpire bashing aside and concentrate on some of the games last week and the upcoming games. It has been a learning experience for some of the teams and for the management.

It was a great weekend for me. I met a lot of people from all the teams and had some interesting conversations.

I want to thank a lot of people for the weekend games. First, all the umpires- Bharath, Afroze, Sadiq, Shiv, Shetul, Sonu, Yousef, Subbu, Sridher. Special thanks to Shiv for agreeing to umpire last minute(Shiraz was down with fever). Also want to thank the St Lousian for agreeing to leg umpire for an over in the Giants Vs IIT game.
A big big thanks to Challengers for taking care of the mat on Sunday. Since one of the mats was wet, we had to do quite a bit of mat shuffling(in total 4). They were a tired bunch when I spoke to Tushar on Monday. Hopefully, they are ready for the big game tonight.
A big thanks to Sridher, Shiv and Bhavesh for taking care of the tarps.

  35. There was drama on Sat morning when the cats played MUCC. Satya offered a chance early on at covers, but it was put down.

The giants had an amazing comeback on Saturday. IIT lost two wickets in the very first over and then from what I heard, had a couple of crucial run outs. I did see Shashi diving all the way to first slip and hold on to a brilliant catch to win the game. If IIT had scored two more runs(it would have been a tie), they would have won based on the results of the regular season .

The runout controversy apart, St Louis(I forget who that was) held on to a brilliant catch running backwards to end Purdue's run. ICC came back very well on Sunday to beat PCC.

The div-2 semis promises to be an excellent game. So does, the finals of div-1.
Lets not forget the Abid Laheri Semis's. Muslim plays Challengers tonight. The cats play flames tomorrow. I am in school tonight, but will be there tomorrow.

Good luck to all the teams.

PS: I request all the teams to enter their scores. I will wait till tonight and then calculate the points based on what we have.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I forgot to thank Shiraz, who umpired the game on Sat(Pak Vs Muslim).

  37. I have put up a couple of photos from last weekend at

  38. homepage needs to be updated... it says last updated on sept 21, 11am.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jaggi,

Can you put Titles under each photo? Otherwise I don't think too many people will know who these players are? Thank You for the photos!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Raheel good job buddy

    Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hari.. Yahoo photos does not allow captions. Snapfish needs a user id and pwd to view the albums. The website which Alpesh has used allows only a limited no of photos per week. Any other sites that I can host the pics at?

Tonald, your point of having the game on Sunday where there is better weather predicted is a good one. But, Capitol has already made hotel bookings etc for Saturday. Also, weather is highly unpredictable in Chicagoland and we have gotten burnt a couple of times trying to rely on weather forecast. For eg, we were supposed to get rain last Sunday too, but it just missed WP. There was a shower or two in downtown.

Challengers won comfortably against Muslim last night- think DAXX scored 90+ runs. Tushar, Shiv please update.

  42. shiva said...
"Challengers (228) beat Muslim Gymkhana in the Day/Night Game yesterday."

It was a clinical display of power hitting, with a couple of sixes missing the dodging cars...DAXX just didnt like the ball very much last night. I dont know if someone pissed him off, but was just fantastic....got run out on 99...imagine that!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jaggi,

Yahoo photos does allow you to put captions. If you are using the new version, you need to highlight the photos you want to edit ( Using Control or Shift)and then from one of the drop down menus pick " edit description" ( I think). Its not intuitive..but, its there. IM me if you are having problems.

  44. Hey Rup,

I know you have been living long enough in chicago to know that the weather man is almost never right.... I mean last week on Saturday it said that it was supposed to t-storm all day in Chicago as well as Hammond yet we only got one small shower in Hammond and the game was completed in planty of time before the storms came. Lets just hope that it doesnt rain on Saturday or Sunday. When is the Div 1 finals?

Rup good luck to you on Sunday and good luck to Satha as well. I will be there to watch Satha slam a cantury hopefully. And RUP i will make sure that i introduce myself to you. How does that sound?

    ReplyDelete
  45. whoops i meant century* in my last post

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thanks Hari. I will work on adding captions to the photos.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Apparently, Yahoo is rolling out the new version of Yahoo Photos which contain features like adding captions etc. Am still on the waiting list.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hey Satha i played last year from AAA against u guys. I was caught by you in like the last over.

Hey mustafa who is dis sajid patel? and who r u?

    ReplyDelete
  49. So which one is the real Zeeshan. One of the Zeeshans said that he is frustrated that Flames kicked him out so how is he going to be playing tonight??

    ReplyDelete
  50. So who are you mustafa? You cant reveal your own identity yet you are trying to pin others names so that they can get into s*** right? If you a man then reveal yourself.....

    ReplyDelete
  51. dude if you are really mustafa then how do you know if i am Sajid or not?

    ReplyDelete
  52. This might be old news by now:

Inzi has been cleared of ball tampering charges!

...But he is still being suspended (for 4 ODI's) for "bringing the game into disrepute" by refusing to play. Inzi & PCC say they are unlikely to contest the suspension.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey Jaggi when is the points table for the Fantasy League going to be updated? The teams that not have entered their scorecards should be fined.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What are the chances of Challengers winning both night and day finals?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Day one will be a cracker! Challengers have won 2 trophies recently, while Pak has gotten close but fallen at some hurdle (semi, final etc), they have the fear of unknown ;). Challengers know what it's like to win a final (in the last 5 years) but they will have their work cut out vs an in form Pak team.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I came up with $127600 assuming $2300 per team and 17 Div 1 teams, 28 Div 2 and 7 Div 3 + 16 teams in night, $500 per team. Yes, I think they should atleast give out *some* cash reward for winners + runners up.

    ReplyDelete
  57. They should pay something like $10k to the winners and $4-5k for the runners up in Div 1 and $5k for winner and $2-3k for runners up in Div 2.

    ReplyDelete
  58. So people like me can enjoy a drink at sound bar as well : )

thats hilarious! :) are you one of the top players gime? Or member of a playoff team hopin to get some $$.

    ReplyDelete
  59. t_p, he could be from a Div 2 Semi Final team too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Haven't seen Tushar or Raheel post here in a while, could be one of them? lol

    ReplyDelete
  61. Who's gonna be at the Div 1 finals? I might come a little later on as its supposed to be cold in the morning!

  63. Update on weekend games:

    Gents,

We've just sent out an e-mail message to all teams confirming that all games this weekend will be played on Sunday due to the high likelihood of rain on Saturday.

For the Div II semis, there's no other change -- same ground, same start time, etc.

    -Shashi

    ReplyDelete
  64. Guys.. the all-star team will be played the weekend after the div-2 finals. We will announce the team pretty soon.

Cash prize for the winners/ runners up is a good idea when we have good cash reserves. We need to look out for some corporate sponsors, which we hopefully can get to pretty soon. We do collect some good amount of money, but we also have very high expenses. The lawsuit has been very expensive. For next season, we have to think of where we can cut costs and also bring in some sponsorship.

As shashi has pointed out earlier, the div-2 finals will be played at WP on Sunday. We are trying to see if we can have the div-1 finals at WP too, that way we can get to see all the games. An announcement on that front will be made soon.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The case has been decided. An announcement on this will be made soon. I definitely am not the right person to be saying anything about this, so please wait till an official announcement is made.

For now, let us concentrate on the remaining games. I was pretty amazed to see the response for the poll that Hari put up. We have some 160+ responses so far. I think it will be a great game.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Will the final be in WP-3? I just talked with captain Rashid bhai, who had been called by the mgmt to ask if it were OK with us to play the final at WP. Since 2 and 4 are taken by Div 2 SF's, that leaves #3 and last week the grass was pretty dense over there.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Raheel, there is a good possibility that we will have all 4 grounds !!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Rup, we have been constantly talking to WP folks and asking them to cut the grass. We have been told that the grass was cut once this week, we have requested one more cutting. Can anybody that stays/works near WP give us a quick update on the conditions? Somebody from mgmt will be there this evening to check things out.

    ReplyDelete
  69. You'll find me in a black leather jacket with a cigar hanging out of my mouth.

    Management, Match-fixing AlERT!!

hehe, Mr. Observer, I think you should raise the odds for Satha scoring a 100 to atleast 3:1 as it is not easy to get a 100 for anyone, including Satha.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Lol. LJ, would you be tempted if they were 20:1 ?

    ReplyDelete
  71. If rup and Chicago giants bring their female supportors, sorry raheel there wont be many people watching your 5 for 15.

Haha, in that case even I might not watch it ;). I'd rather take 1-50 and win the final than 5-15 and end up losing.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hey Jaggi when is the Fantasy league goin to be updated with the points for each player?

    ReplyDelete
  73. I apologize Mastakilla.. the cricket fantasy team is working on updating the nos. A few in the team have been busy with school, work and stuff. I am waiting for the final nos to post on the website.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Jaggi

Still the Final for Div I shows Hanover Park this Sunday starting at 9 AM

It is true or will change to WP ?

  75. Guys... it will be an amazing sunday, with three wonderful games. The two div-2 Semi finals and the Div-1 finals will be at Washington Park, a treat for any cricket enthusiast.

We may need some help out there, so would appreciate it if you can come early to the ground-9:00am. Alpesh, from No Stars, has volunteered already.

The Website has been updated to reflect the changes(working on the scrolling msg).

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hey thanks Alot jaggi. So any idea who is leading the points table so far?

    ReplyDelete
  77. I am not very sure at this point. The MVP points have been provided, we are waiting to tabulate them. This is our first week and we need to sort out some coordination issues, plus a few in the team are busy !! A couple of days more.
The problem this year is the manual calculation. For next year, we will hopefully automate it.
