  4. Adi, the last game of the season is still some ways away. A lot can and will happen until then.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Adi,

  8. So, Rom, Adi, n_w, Madew, Preetam, Ram, Rup, Asmar, and our Beloved Tango..

Our aim this afternoon is to make this thread make a ton....you know if Kumble can do it...we can do it too..

    ReplyDelete
  9. I know what a blog is.
Its a place where you make wise ass comments and find yourself in the doghouse later in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well, I have about 40 minutes at my disposal, and everybody knows what a slow batsman I am. But with some good partners, we can do it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wel I can make comments...dunno if they are wise ass...or just ass...

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think I can keep better than Prior.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, thats how I missed it, I played 2 games that weekend. No regrets, except that we lost to you guys.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh yeah...he is the highest scorer in an inning that made 664...how about that..

    ReplyDelete
  31. Adi asked me to continue here and then disappeared, maybe he has a hot new hire too.

    ReplyDelete
  32. But one should not forget Dhoni too .. He started the assault today... n then it was Kumble who killed them ...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Appu, I'm not forgetting Dhoni, its just impressive that Kumble is doing this as he nears the end of his career.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Also, Dhoni lets off less byes than Prior.

    ReplyDelete
  35. romeen,

i dont play man. i figured critisizing is much easier or writing blogs like C8W does. :))

anyway are you ready to take on the challenge romeen?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thats cool nw. Playing is not everything, talking about the game is equally important.

    Whats the challenge?

    ReplyDelete
  37. challenge is NO LET UPs from cats. i want you in finals

i was kidding i actually does play.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Did you know c8w used to play some years ago? He told me so.

    ReplyDelete

  45. 25+ consistently is good enough for me and the team...I am trying

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sheky, enough with the 401K now. Come back to the blog, if you keep working this hard, you are gonna need yr retirement money pretty soon.

    ReplyDelete
  47. ram, you have a game this weekend?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Romeen,
Shekhs is not busy with 401k but with the hot hire...

    ReplyDelete
  49. I can't believe Shekhs sold me the concept....

    ReplyDelete
  50. Ram,
I know very little about both, I'm sure Sheky doesnt need any tips.

Good job with the 'quick singles' above, we are getting there.

Give my best to madhu when you get there.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Won't see Madhu, bcuz not playing PCC, but Jolly Rovers...

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  89. Romeen,

You live in the city? Where abouts?

Hope you do get a century tomorrow. I've noticed that you've negotiated the new ball well and consistenly make at least 25+ runs.

Seems like you've got your eye in, and then get out. Hopefully, tomorrow you'll play another Captain's innings and get the big one.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I think you might be right there, rup.
Sheky's being bobbitized as we speak.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Preetam, what field is she in?
I know all the Peds cook county residents.
Thanks for your good wishes Adi. You are right, I do get out after doing the initial hard work.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Adi, good luck to you too. A good innings is always followed by another, so there you go.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I might stop by in the morning. You guys gonna be at HP right?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Whoa! Looks as though everyone is already in a party mood.

And Shekhs, no, I'm not doing what you think I'm doing. Just busy, thats all.

Aditya, better get some good practice against Rogers Park. Remember, you've still got to score big in the last three games. Also, no sledging please. Otherwise, Shiraz and Asmar will blame their loss on Phoenix players being 'mean' :)

    ReplyDelete
  97. Aditya, Do i see a back to back coming ? good luck.
Romeen, Fam Practice. She is done though.

    ReplyDelete
  98. So tango, you were not bumping uglies, huh?
    Atleast you are back.

    ReplyDelete
  99. And while you are getting your back to backs, please give Samir a good nudge. It is time for him to break the 30's shackles.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Preetam, I see, yeah, just the peds residents rotate with me.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah, but I missed all the action. I see my brother ND has made another celebrity appearance today.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Sheky's being bobbitized as we speak.
If true then you need to be on call.. cause it will be calling Dr Romeen if things go south. Or maybe he got balls big enough to call the wifey

    ReplyDelete
  103. Preetam,

Thanks dude. Appreciate the support. I will definitely let Sameer know, coz I've been on his case about the same thing. :-)

    Good luck to you too.

    ReplyDelete
  104. ya tango, nw is doing this whloe aamir khan thing, just a couple appearances every once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Tango :-D

We will try and stay away from "mean"! I remember the comment Tango. Lets see how stuff plays out over the next few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Maybe NW is knocking knees, bumping uglies, rubbing bellies... etc?

    ReplyDelete
  107. By the way, Romo, liked the crack of Cialis "coming"! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  108. Rup, Madhu,

Good luck to both of you this weekend. Hopefully Horizon will be the winner on Tuesday! See you guys then.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Romo, I wanna see a big one against your name.

    ReplyDelete
  110. And no, that wasn't a Cialis crack.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Thanx adi, i was beginning to think some of my jokes were going unnoticed :)

  117. sorry, was out of pocket for a while...glad we could score a century, a great team effort. we should form a bloggers XI and play in this upcoming mini-worldcup !

    ReplyDelete
  118. Awesome stuff, we have not have had a single delivery and so many blogs already.

Just for the record, we had no water from Purdue this year as well, sorry CD, we did not. In any case we did not loose because of the water, we can go without water, It was more the Home Ground Advantage that played a vital role. I know the drive does take away from a lot. In any case what is past is past, I wish Purdue all the best and feel most of thier guys are great and wish them the best.

If I was a betting man, I would probably bet on United this weekend. Gut Feel..:*)

As far as Hydration for us is concerned, we did take our own drinks with us when we got the call from CD regarding no drinks and food, so we were well hydrated for the 300+ thrashing, I guess that is one of the reasons it was just 300..:)

    ReplyDelete
  119. ND,

"man i have this poster in my office which says "its not how you play the game but how you place the blame""

I think the Poster has found a great home to its message in your office. I think it might very well be the motto of your life as well. Good Luck with the trip this week, for both you and Tango, I believe you have an out of town game.

It seemed like my comment about an incident about Purdue, rubbed you more than them. I am sorry to have offended your sister team.

  122. Wildcats Vs Muslim
The game went according to the predictions for the weekend, and our batting crumbled again..
Cats lost the toss for a change and were sent in to bat, we never really got a partnership going throughout the match, and only Vikram was present watching batsman after batsman playing a bad shot n going back.
Romeen chipped in with 12, Vikram scored around 35 runs and was left stranded and the other end, then rest of the batting could not last the bowling. we scored 109 in about 40 overs thanks to the contributions from Vik, Rom and the Extras...

Muslim began their chase and lost the first wicket pretty early, and after that Saad and Muhammed( I am sorry if i spelt the names wrong) played without much pressure and were content taking 2 or 3 each over without taking any risk. By the drinks Muslim were around 50/1 and after the drinks break the scoring rate dropped considerably as me n Sanjay were bowling some steady line.
All of a sudden Muslim lost Muhammed, Rizwan, Kamran and Afroz and they were in a spot of bother, but the score to chase was way too little and they scored it loosing the wicket of Saad, with enough overs to spare..
Our main problem is our batting and i dont know if one person not being there is a reason enough for us to bat so badly, we have some thinking to do and hopefully these losses have to do with the law of averages.. We might bounce back at the right moment in the playoff's who knows, that said if we make it to the playoff's(Most Likely)...
All the best for Muslim for a good win.

If anything is missing either Rom or anyone from Muslim can update my comment..

  123. Muslim Gym V/S WC

MGCC won the toss and put WC in to bat. The WCs finally broke the 102 run barrier from the last 3 games, they made 108! Another spineless performance from the WC batsmen in the face of some disciplined bowling. Vikram played well for his 32, but no other batsmen wanted to keep him company.Faizal, Kamran and Rizwan bowled well.
MGCC lost an early wicket to a beauty of a ball from Satish but then Mehboob and Saad steadied the boat. Then some wonderful spin bowling from Naren, Ramji and Sanjay got some quick breakthroughs. Ramji and Naren took some spectacular return catches, however, in the end 108 proved to be too small atotal and MGCC made it comfortably with 4 wickets and tons of overs to spare.
    Another disappointing performance from WC.
    Congrats, MGCC.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Naren, you and I must have been tying at the same time :)

  125. yes cap i think we did it at the same time approx.., should i delete my comment ??? just joking... I did not think you would have the time to write a report so took it on me...

  126. QC Kings VS Arsenal
    -------------------

QC Kings won by 50 odd runs.

Put into bat QC Kings were allout for 138 runs in 38 overs.

Arsenal allout 88 in 29 overs.

  127. Purdue vs United:

United overcame a brutally hot day and a badly depleted Purdue team relatively comfortably in the end, to win by 90-odd runs.

Purdue apparently has their first playoff game in Columbus Ohio tomorrow in their other league, for which they will be playing their best side. So today in the MCC first-division game, they played only about 3 or 4 of their first XI - VijayP, Chintan, Pradeep and Dr Ravi (of which 2 will be playing again tomorrow in Ohio! Good luck, after that brutally hot day today!)

Facing the badly depleted attack, United batted first and lost their opener in the first over... and then rocketed to 59/1 in 7 overs! But they kept losing wickets at regular intervals after that, sliding to 142/6. However first a 47-run partnership between Mateen and Gopi followed by a 50-run partnership between Mateen and Samarth (aided to some extent by a lot of extras) carried United to 255 in their 45 overs (Mateen ended with an unbeaten fifty, top-scoring on the day).

Purdue were 57/3 in 15 overs at break (2 breaks were taken due to the horrendously awful weather)... and then came out running, scoring 6+ an over for the next few overs with crazy-quick speed (they once ran a four before the ball could be hurled in from near the boundary!) However a misunderstanding led to a runout, and then two batsmen perished to Adnan in 2 overs going for big shots against high-loopy bowling, and the threat ended. VijayP played a lone hand in getting 50+, and Mehul claimed 3 wickets as Purdue were eventually 160-odd allout. (It was my first viewing of Yousuf BTW, the new United pickup from a couple of games ago. Looks a pretty damn good cricketer to me - bats sensibly, even if he didnt make many today, and bowls very effectively too, and has a terrifically good legcutter).

With Muslim Gym also beating Wildcats today, two teams fighting for their playoff lives have beaten two previously-once-beaten teams today. This only serves to increase the importance of tomorrow's Rogers Park vs Phoenix matchup, as one of the other playoff contenders tries to keep pace.

  129. Eagles lost to Jolly Rovers in a high scoring game in Mossville.

Jolly Rovers scored 256 in 40 batting first. Younis scored a century for Jolly Rovers.

Eagles responded with 252 losing the game by 5 runs. Subbu scored a cracking 82.

The game went to the wires.

  130. Match Report - Pheonix vs. Rogers Park

Result - Pheonix won by 84 runs
    --------------------------------

Rogers Park won the toss and bowled first. We made good use of the new ball and got some early wickets. Pheonix was 68 for 5 in 20 overs. We self distructed in the last 15 overs as we dropped 9 catches and Priyank helped Pheonix get to a fighting 180.

Our batting could never find momentum in the heat and we were all out for 96. This was the worst performance of the season for us as we let the game out of our hands when we had the opportunity of bowling them out earlier. Hats off to Pheonix. They staged a great comeback when they were batting.

Hopefully we can bounce back in our remaining games.

Good luck to Pheonix - you guys have a tough schedule ahead of you.

    Regards,
    Asmar

    9 catches?? hmmmmm.....

one thing I must say (noticed while doing the leg umpiring n keeping), Shiraz is really sensitive about H20!!! JK Shiraz :)

RP is a great team n fun to play with....good luck to you guys for your up coming games...yes indeed, we have tough schedule ahead of us :)

  132. Samir,

We dropped 8 for sure man. I dropped 2. The batting team never counts dropped catches, only the fielding team does. Your teams' catching on the other hand was fabulous.

  135. ND, mereko lagta hai ki Shiraz bhai ke dimag ka screw thoda dheela hai. I think he is implying that we play for United CC . HA! Cool, I’m Faisal Baig :-))

    Sheru,

Had you been reading the blogs from the beginning, you might have realized that we’ve been quiet non-discriminatory in our criticism of all the teams. Regardless, if you think we have some hidden motives, then so be it. Pick a fight with Faisal the next time you see him :-))

We got on your case because you started making petty excuses for losing to Purdue. Just so you know: the result of the games you lost wouldn’t have been much different had you been playing in Purdue, Chicago or on the moon.

Shiraz, you lost both games to Purdue by an average margin of 180 runs. WHAT THE CHUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU???

    Let me say that again

Shiraz, you lost both games to Purdue by an average margin of 180 runs. WHAT THE CHUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU???

Earlier, you were threading the fine line between confidence and overconfidence. Now, your overconfidence has spilled over into stupidity.

Imagine, all the teams, including the two teams that have been relegated to Division II this year, put up a better fight against Purdue than you did. You didn’t see them making any excuses of ‘home field advantage’ and ‘dehydration’.

Is playing at home advantageous? Sure it is. If you lose by 30-40 runs, then maybe you can make that excuse. But…

Shiraz, you lost both games to Purdue by an average margin of 180 runs. WHAT THE CHUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU???

When you get your ass kicked like that (TWICE), you shut up and wait for the next opportunity to seek revenge. If you keep making petty excuses, you look like a fool. And ND and I will be sure to point out your foolishness.

  143. "God must be a Non-Eagle"
I do not have any other excuse for it. ( well I can come up with quite a few cricket excuses but i will let it rest for now).
As you all know how scorching it was on Saturday. Jolly Rovers scored 257 in 40. Inspite of the 2 drinks break the heat really got to us. We dropped about 15 catches. 7 of them off their centurian Younus. I caanot take away credit from him for the way he played us though. Anyway the fielding side gave him 6 lives and the umpire, 1.
After a sumptous lunch we started off pretty well negotiating their probing opening attack. A few wickets fell ( with Mankesh, Ravi and GG getting around 30's ) and then the mayhem started.
    "Fire at Will"
Subbu went 3 drop and straight away went berserk. Lofting, cutting and driving everything like he was playing in his backyard with a tennis ball. And to show them how compact he is, he would throw in a tight little defense here and there. He got a few repreives but then luck only favors the brave. While that was going on at one end we at the other end were more focused on giving him strike. ( which made a couple of us lose our wickets, me included ).
Subbu fell in the 38th over in fading lght. We still had to get about 24 runs in 18 balls. Sridhar and abhinay tried but it just didnt go our way.
When we started our innings the task (257 in 40) was a daunting one but we managed to take it to their camp.
The game ended at 8.20 pm.
We reached home at 11.00 pm and i just didnt budge out of bed till sunday afternoon.
finally a question for you all.
"What are batting leg guards for ?"
" Are they to protect the batsmens legs ?"
If so "what is the rule about wearing them or not wearing them?"
    -ok there 3 questions there-

    ReplyDelete
  144. Preetam,
Tough luck man....Good game, good effort!

    Interesting report though...I must say..

Are you talking about Batting pads? You made it so technical that I had to make sure..

Pads I assume are to protect the batsman's legs, yeah, can't think of anything else as its use...besides using them as floating devices...maybe not..

  145. The Purdue vs RP game was a good one for us. We were in a bit of a hole early, and RP was definitely on top, but good rear guard action from our ever so slow Fabian, our crisis man DC, and the stylish Naveen got us through the pressure periods. Finally, Priyank, Mitul, and DC took the fight to the opposition and from 55 for 5 in 15 odd overs, we were looking at 160 for 8 in 36 overs and possibly a score of 200 in the shortened 40 over game. However, we were cut short at 181, which was definitely a competitive total.

RP came at us hard with Shiraz and Asmar. However, as Asmar mentioned, some good catching to accompany the tidy bowling got rid of the two danger men. After that, the man of the hour, Nikunj decided he wanted the win more than our opposition, and just willed 4 wickets from their middle order. After that it was a matter of time and pressure. I understand that RP were missing some of their key players, but we're glad for the 4 points and to stay alive for another week.

The umpire made 3 glaring errors on the day. Firstly, I was given LBW to a ball that hit me on back foot thigh. Didn't even touch the pad. I was batting a foot and a half outside the crease as I normally do, so there is no way that should have been out. And, to top it off, I was told that the ball was going down leg! Arrggh! One of the RP batsman was given LBW as well, though I was later told that he had got an inside edge of this bat. Both times the finger went up without much deliberation. Finally, a ball was initially given wide, but then after we requested that the umpire consult the batsman (Mohtassim), it was clear that it had clipped his pad! However, there was clearly no partisanship or bias on the part of the umpire and that helps to accept the errors.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Preetam,

What little I know of the game, batting pads are to protect the legs of the batsman. They are to be worn on the legs (not sure where else it's possible to where them, but I'm sure Tango or NW could provide a creative answer) and I'm not aware of any rule requiring the batsman to wear them. You should if you're smart - same concept with a Guard - but it is up to you as a batsman.

  147. Madhu,

That's pretty funny. I did hear the music!

  148. Aditya man that ourseason there bro... I think instead of using the word "umpire errors" Just say ICC...
I think we get about 2 blatant cheat calls, 4 intentional bad calls a game(where the umpire states he did not know).. then 4 close calls(these I can live with) going against us per game add that up and over a 14 game season and we are closer to old age than our parents....

    ReplyDelete
  149. LOL. Chally, you crack me up. Lets hope that doesn't happen during the night game!

  150. Adi: U guys had a good win yesterday, and would surely pass on the message to Rom about what u guys think ;-)..
Shekhs: ur game with Pak would be a hell of a game since pak needs to win this game for sure.. would love to drop by for sometime on that day...

    ReplyDelete
  151. Shekhs,

Yeah man, the Pak Gym vs Challengers will be a hell of a game. But I have a feeling you guys will pull it off. Also, we really need you to!

    ReplyDelete
  152. Naren,

Hmmm.... I don't remember any such message that you need to pass on to Romo. I have a sinking feeling I'm in so much trouble.... :-)

Thanks for the good wishes. Things just fell into place for us despite being put to the sword initially by RP.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Adi u asked us to pull it off against MG and rest is history so ur asking the same to Shekhs so keep that in mind ;-), Shekhs would be out there so the result might be to ur liking adi.. go there and cheer the heck out for Chal n u might get ur result ...

  154. ICC is a very good team. What is going on this year guys? I am a true fan and followed all your wins to top place last year. Hope its just a bad season.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Aditya,

Thanks for the kind respectful words, despite our stinky performance. You guys played great.

Sorry for the unfortunate decision you got, but hey, your team still won.

Good Luck to you guys...and I hope you and Naren are cooking something up with the CATS :-)

    Regards,
    Asmar

  156. Rishi we still a good team... Have had some bad patches here and there... But we will be fine...Once we have our family coming to the games and we drinking and eating food with a few good laughs we will be back as gang busters...
Lets hope we dont get ICC

  157. I always thought, like a helmet, any protection is a batsman's prerogative. He might choose to wear it or not ( depending the level of dumbness you are endowed with ).
In this game against JR on the 39.5th ball sridher got out but had crossed. So the new batsman would have been a non striker for the last ball. We sent him without pads. ( we wanted to see if he could run 5 runs without pads ). The umpire comes out and says that the batsman needs to have pads. And then there was the case of the sunstitute runner runiing short each and every time and the only excuse we got from the ump was "I did not see".

    ReplyDelete
  158. Naren and Adi,
I have a feeling that Pak vs Chall will go down to the wire...unless we just play one of those ridiculous Challengers inning and get bundled out quick...
Thanks for the support, will definitely try our best..

Naren, you are supporting us tomorrow right.. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  159. I meant to say -

Good Luck to you guys...and I hope you and Naren are NOT cooking something up with the CATS :-)

    -Asmar

    ReplyDelete
  160. As a footnote to the last comment. We didnt really lose because of what the umpire did. We really lost because of the way we fielded. No excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Asmar : nothing is cooking up of any sort man, its just a banter on the way things are going with our batting..
I dont think i would take any part in cooking something either way.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Naren - you took it seriously man. I was kidding. Notice the smiley.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Hmm supporting u guys against Horizons tough call buddy..
I practice with these guys so i would be biased to them, but again i practice with a couple of u guys too so i need to be biased to u so the bottom line is i would be neutral in my support to the best playing team on the given day... do i make sense Adi n Shekhs...;-)

    ReplyDelete
  164. Asmar, I did not take it seriously just that i forgot to add the smiley ;-).

    ReplyDelete
  165. hello shiraz and asmar,

guess this time you guys were bloated. couldnt chase down 180 againts one man bowling attack.

could this be just because you suck?

    ReplyDelete
  166. Preetam: I dont think the batsman would have either way run 5 runs, and i think the umpire was right to ask him to use pads, who knows on ur bad day anything can happen, just a friendly thought that is all ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  167. Naren,
C'mon man...Horizon is not Phoenix...they only have the Patel bros and Adi in that team...rest is all a mix... :-)
    Lets make a deal..
You support Challengers when we are batting...
and then when Horizon is batting, support Challengers..

    Fair deal right..

    ReplyDelete
  168. n_w,
As much as we love you, you're a pain in the Tush...

C'mon man...no team is perfect, at least this season, there is no clear fav.....
Everybody has their good and bad days....Milwaukee lost to Capitol..how about that/

My point is, lets not make anything personal here, lets not attack any team....please..lets keep it clean bud...

Whats up with the hatred..? Where's the love...?

    ReplyDelete
  169. Naren, I agree the batsman might not have run those 5. But why do you think the umpire is right in asking the bastman to wear pads. Do you know a rule ?
Sadiq, can you please throw some light on this.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Shekhs has started his Shaky stuff boy!!, what about Athreya, i have a grudge against u guys as u have beaten us blue ;-) so i would cheer the heck out for Horizons.. Adi does it sound like a fair deal...
Shekhs i would have taken ur deal if it was with a couple of drinks...
No hard feelings buddy would cheer both the teams or best stay home not to hurt either.... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  171. Chally;
I love a good party man. When I was younger and more energetic I played in East Coast...fun leagues. Play-offs were like an additional 1 or 2 games until you get eliminated, otherwise it was rum, food, ladies and endless cook-outs. Kind like ICC,except no ladies.

r u high? or got some prosac?
