  1. Sorry Alpesh,

But the discussion moved into the night tourney, and predictions for this coming week. So it made sense to start these new posts.

Still, 660+ posts for a week should be the record... right?

Oh! I got a chukker in my team. If he starts chucking, he will take 10 wickets guaranteed :)

    ___________________________________

well i would like to see that chukker. :) why don't you use him in a night game. league has no complaints against chukker how come you are so worried about chukker. you gotta start using your chukker. maybe he can finish every game in 18 over. 9 from chukker and 9 from mehul. well you can use that chukker in night. by the time people is realizing he is chukking match is over, so no tension.

i saw that comment and i had to right down this.

  4. I think u guys forgot about few spiners in Div 1 who r chuckers.
    1.Nasir nazar.
    2.Kiran.

  5. Kiran..From flames???
Never crossed my mind that he bowls much less chuck

    ReplyDelete
  6. let me add,

bhavesh can spin without chukking. he can't chuck from 2 step runup. i saw him chukking in practice, cause i like to play his chucking bowling in practice. he takes about7 step runup and when he release the ball he chuck and ball comes at you atleast 85 mile and comes at you cheast level. trust me it's hard to play that bowl. i littleraly saw so many good batsman playing that ball away from body and ball still comes close to your body. you don't want to face that kind of bowling from bhavesh. let him be the spinner.

Nothing more hilarious than a person bragging about how fast his teammate can chuck :)

  9. Hey Aditya,

Can you create a poll which goes something like this?
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Would you like to see the 'Chucking rule' enforced in MWCC?

    Yes
    No

  10. kiran from flames? i doubt.

  11. Tango,

I'm not sure if I can do it, and if so, how to do it. I'll have to check with Jaggi or Hari to see if they can help out.

I'll get back to you either tomorrow or sometime early next week on this.

  12. Why Addy will never be MWCC president.
He has lost faith in the tax payers of MWCC (Players)
He wasted 40k of hard erarned $$$ and the MWCC players lost their trophies.
For spite he went and got a spot on the LA open.
He is currently trying to spite MCC management and in doing so he is hurting the players and voters.
He told MWCC players screw you all as he went and selected for UCC, ACC, GCC, TCC, His Buddy CC.
He want you all to buy that he asked MWCC players before he went to all these other avenues for a team.
He is a dictator just like your current president.
He is currently not trying to promote Cricket but himself.
He and United CC thinks they are above the law.
MWCC should realy look to Ban these guys for organizing cricket that is hurting MWCC. Don't let them have the Joy of playing competitive cricket in MWCC whilst promoting Tom, Dick & Tracy from around the world.
Above all he knows he can't win cause he may not get even 5 votes this time around.

  13. i think you, sorry the management has taken to these tactics. obviously you are very well versed on this topic. stop beating a dead horse and move on. btw, where is the 11 for mwcc have you not made up your mind yet? what are you waiting for? i think you sould have put the 11 out last month and they should be practising right now. afterall these are international cricketers that we are playing against.
stop obsessing with this gwp. or do you have an alternate agenda?

  22. Tushar, that Australian XI will be some team! We know Collin Miller from his blue hair, test playing days. I saw Anthony Stuart take a hat-trick vs Pak in 1996-97 swinging it miles and he never got picked for another international since McGrath, Fleming and Gillespie got fit again.

Lendl Simmons last year hit a 100 vs Pak playing for WI A team against an attack consisting of Shoaib Akhtar, Razzaq and Kaneria!

adnan every game i am playing i wanna win it does not matter whom i playing against. i take my cricket serioues. well i do like to play fair have you seen us not playing according to rules. i don't think any team in this leauge has problem playing against us. well when mcc is really think bhavesh is chukking and mcc starts banding all chukker or take any action then i am sure well do something about bhavesh action. i personally don't think when he spinning the ball he chukk. that's my opionion. as far as playing hard and fair i am sure you"ll accept that we do play hard and fair. we never took any adventage over any team. we go to mcc and we followed what mcc has told us. when you play cricket it has to be winning all the game that's how you keep up with good cricket. if you have winning in ur mind i bet you"ll overcome in most of the situation.

SD, I thought Phoenix was the team that people looked down on, and so shouldn't the upset be if Phoenix beats the Royals?

Tango, N_W, what is up guys? What about the spineless batting, etc? It's friday! C'mon! One win doesn't make a good team!

    ReplyDelete
  40. N_W,

Much better. All valid points for Phoenix!

But, the Royals did chase down 230+ against AAA. And you may say that AAA hasn't had a good season so far, but that's not because their bowling isn't good. It's because their batting hasn't clicked. Can you still say that the Royals are "crawling"??

yes they are. ROYALS is very spirited team. i like them alot but last week was off to the top performances for them and that as good as they going to get. also you had a good day on the field too. but let me see the class not the sporadic heroics. then i will think about including you in my play off watch list. remember it just got harder with reinforced MUSLIM GYM.

anyway why dont you comment on my post on less competitive DIV I this year comment

  50. nw,

I wouldn't call us a playoff team, so I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that you'd consider it!

Yes, we did have a good day on the field, and except for the 40+ wides, we did little else wrong. However, only if that type of performance becomes the norm, and not the exception, do we have a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  51. As for competitiveness in Division 1. Here are my thoughts based on current records. You look at the teams that remained consistent from last year - Pak, Challengers, St Louis, Purdue, Royals, Chargers, and Rogers Park. Teams that improved are Cats (don't know why though), United, Milw CC, and Muslim Gym. Teams that seem weaker are Bears (but they scored 320+ last week), MUCC, and Flames. One cannot say much about the 2 new teams because they are finding their feet right now.

So, it seems that 3 teams got weaker, and 3 teams got stronger. The rest remain consisten, or are brand new! I don't think Division 1 is less competitive this year, or at least not by much.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I actually changed my list at the last min before posting, so my numbers may seem a little off in the previous comment!!

However, I stand by the fact that though 4 improved and 3 weakened, based solely on results thus far, I don't think it's become less competitive.

    ReplyDelete
  53. n_w,

  57. Last year, there were 12 very competitive teams in Division I.

Phoenix, Wildcats, Purdue, St.Louis, Pak Gymkhana, Muslim Gymkhana, Bears, Royals, United, Challengers, Milwaukee United, Flames. Royals and Phoenix were in the playoff hunt till the second last week.

This year, we only have nine very competitive teams.

Amongst the competitive teams from last year, Flames, Royals, Bears, Milwaukee United have lost a lot of players. On the other hand, only Milwaukee CC has improved significantly this season.

ND is right, Division I is not as competitive as last year.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Tango,

You do have a point, but I think you're making that judgement a little early. Last year, Royals and Phoenix weren't competitive at the halfway point. But each team did better in the second half of the season and became competitive. So, really, I feel only 10 teams were really competitive throughout.

This year, at this point, I think there are 10 competitive teams as well. And if MUCC wins it's next game, they go to 2-3 and are back in the hunt! There is a fallacy in the point you make. And the Royals are 1-3. One more win, and they're 2-3 as well.

I feel it's a little too early to make the competitive judgement.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yes, I think we have a two Tier comp.
Once we introduce 3 divs we will get rid of the two tier comp.
If we had 14 teams in 1 & 2 we would not see this vast difference in competition.
The most you will have is two teams struggling and the relegation will take care of that.
But we have been going through a phase where relegation seemd to be a disgrace so players and or teams will move or break up to avoid relegation.

    ReplyDelete
  60. tango, u and me same same bro. :))

Records aside. Royals, Flames, Milwaukee United and Bears just aren't going to be that competitive this year.

Royals lost Dimpy and Rupesh, who were possibly their two best players. Bears lost Arif and Faisal, who were also two of their three best players. Flames are truly dismal.

Milwaukee United 'might' turn things around and so can AAA and Capitol. But as of now, they just aren't competitive enough.

  62. I'm with Rup's, 'Three Division strategy'.

I don't know what kind of an effect it will have on Division I, but it will sure as hell make Division II a lot more competitive.

  67. Summary MUCC Vs Wildcats

Cats won the toss and elected to bat first, we started at a good pace scoring about 70 in 13 overs with out loosing any wickets. Then all of a sudden we lost Romeen and Balaji within the space of a few balls, both of them played well in the given conditions.
Ajit and vikram too fell in quick time along with Sanjay.
SP played a couple of big hits and was unlucky to get caught on the ropes, Krishna played well in the situation scoring runs freely along with Nikhil and Satish played a gem of an inning at the death scoring an unbeaten 44 with a couple of massive 6's, the last over accounting for 21 and the final score was 215 in 45.
MUCC started their chase and lost Sadiq early and then lost Sharat to a good slower ball from Satish.
Badri was playing well till the time he was in the middle and once his wicket fell, the wickets came at regular intervals, Bhavneet played a good knock scoring around 70 but he was left stranded at the other end and MUCC was all out for around 165..
Atlast this time Milwaukee's weather was kind on us with no rain..

    Summary MUCC Vs Wildcats

Good summary Naren. Basically Wildcats dominated early - MUCC were too amped up IMHO (started with 6 wides in the first over etc), and Wildcats batted very well and were 70/0 after 13 overs. Then the MUCC spinners dragged it back - Shyam and Bhavneet bowled very well. Shyam was very controlled and picked up 3 wickets, Bhavneet bowled terrifically too, with half his overs at the slogs, and turning the ball a mile on the Lincoln pitch and picking up 3-fer as well. Wildcats went from 70/0 in 13 overs to 160/7 in 40 overs!

Then came one piece of sportsmanship that I must highly commend as an umpire - Satish flicked one, and MUCC's Sadiq dived full-length and caught it one-handed. The legumpire (Ajit) said later he was sort of blocked in view, but thought the catch was clean. I was at the bowlnig end, and Nikhil was at my end as nonstriker.. both of us were quite convinced it was a clean catch (I would certainly have given it out). However Sadiq waved it off, saying he hadnt caught it cleanly. Excellent to see such sportsmanship still alive in the league.

Satish then hit a six, and Wildcats moved onto 172/7 in 42 overs. And then Satish went beserk (Bhavneet had just finished his spell), hitting 4 more sixes as the Wildcats scored 43 runs in the last 3 overs! Satish was awesome, 5 sixes in all, clean-struck, smashed right out of the ground. Two of his shots hit the top of the trees in play and bounced back, else it would have been 7 sixes! In retrospect that was the key period of the game, when the Wildcats surged from a good fighting total to a winning one in 3 overs (I dont think anyone has actually scored 200 so far this year at Lincoln before).

MUCC lost a couple early wickets, then stabilized with Badri and Bhavneet. The asking rate crept up, but it might still have been on with enough wickets in hand.. but MUCC had always IMHO lost 1 or 2 wickets too many at every point. Bhavneet batted beautifully again, playing a lone hand and dragging MUCC close - they needed 8/over with about 10 overs left, and they actually scored about 30 in the next 3 to bring the asking rate down a smidge. But wickets kept falling at one end, and in the end Bhavneet was left stranded for an excellent fighting 72*, as MUCC fell about 50 runs short of the target (but still had more than 5 overs left to bat at the end... the 42 runs added in the last 3 overs, IMHO, was the critical difference).

In the end, Satish was the star of the day - 3 wickets, and the critical rapidfire knock of 44* at the most important moment of the game. However Bhavneet wasnt far behind in the losing cause - also taking 3 wickets, and hitting up a fighting 72* as well. Thus the Wildcat juggernaut rolls on, while MUCC falls to 1-4 - and while they put up a good fighting effort today, they have a lot of work left to do if they want to get back in the race this season.

  69. Eagles vs QC Kings, Moline

Shekhs Aravind got it right with his prediction !

Eagles beat QC Kings by 3 wickets in Moline under cloudy skies to record our first victory of the season...Gosh...what a feeling :)

We played a 35 over game, when, on our way to Moline, we thought we would never have a game.

QC Kings - 177 all out (Hari Kiran 97 runout by a direct hit by GG; fantastic knock by Hari)

    Eagles - 178/7 (Mankesh, 40 (29 balls), KRK Mohan 44 notout) with 2 or 3 overs left.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Thanks Naren and Sadiq for your summaries.
First of all, just wanted to thank MUCC for being such excellent hosts, as they always are.
As the other 2 summaries mentioned, Satish played a stellar knock with some very good contributions from Krishna and Balaji. I'd also like to add that Naren got a 4-fer at a crucial stage of the game, a time when Bunty was looking very dangerous, who played a knock that only special players do.

  73. Giants vs Advancers: Advancers Won.

Giants 136 All Out - Advancers 137 in 32 overs with a loss of 8 Wickets.

Good win by Advancers. Game was very close but there was not just enough runs to defend on Hanover Park ground. Good spin bowling display by Advancers.

  74. Update: Madison beat Illinois CC in Madison today. Illinois, somewhat depleted with 3 irregulars (but with all the Big Three, Rup, Jack and Collins around) were put in and collapsed to 75 all out. Madison made it with the loss of 1 wicket in 14.2 overs.

A strange game for Illinois CC - they lost 3 early wickets, and never really managed to recover. They had gotten to 50 odd for 4 I think, but then slid quickly to 66/9 before finally subsiding. They then dropped the Madison opener in the first over, which put paid to any chances they might have had.

So Illinois are now 3-3, and Madison are 4-2. Usually you cant afford to lose more than 5 games in Div2 to make the playoffs, so Illinois will have to go on one of their patented runs to be sure of the playoffs now.

  75. Note to Self:

Next time you play Peoria Cricket Club, apart from the fine cricketers who play for the team, beware of Bradley kids posing as umpires. Else ...

    If you are batting:
    1. Edges onto your pad is out. In general, anything that hits the pad is out, even if your gaurd is 1 foot outside the crease and 2 feet down the legside.
    2. You WILL be given runout if there is ever an appeal, so what if the umpire wasn't even looking. Ofcourse, he'll do the next best thing, ask Madhu.
    3. Try to get Madhu to play for your team, cos when this Bradley kid's in doubt, he's gotto take Madhu's opinion of what he should do.

    If you are fielding:
    1. Stop appealing, goddamit !!! Deliberate pading is not out, don't you know?

    ---------------------------
Unfortunately, the freakin umpiring ruined a beautiful drive down to Peoria. Great ground and a great bunch of guys (very talented). Don't think they need the umpire to win games and they should do something about it, for the sake of quality cricket. Personally Madhu, I'd look into letting Bradley kids umpire a CAT dominated team ... enuff said

Playoffs? What Playoffs? Playoffs? What are you talking about playoffs? lol lol

man yes that drop with the 3 ball of the first was HUGE...Felt with if that was taken with julius coming in to face me I would have had momemtum because he swing alot not much defence and we would have gotten into the middle order in the first 2-3 overs.. that did not happen...
    Batted POORLY gave away wickets
    Anyway we should be ok...

  77. Update on Capitol...

Off of what I was told..

    Chargers made 217 in 45..

    Capitol 209 all out.

    Satha 153.

I was just telling the other day that he was gonna score big against Chargers.

People keep saying that Satha didnt score in Div 1, but they keep forgeting that he played the top 5 teams in his first 5 games.
Its definitely not easy to score against Pak, United, challengers, STL and Wildcats combined.

  78. Varad,
I completely understand your frustration man...No one wants to get out to LBW decision. When Umpire gives batsmen out he is at fault and when he doesn't give em out..he is at fault too (Sadiq..remember Jack's LBW in quarterfinals..hehe..;)... Even international umpires have give out to bat and pad LBW decisions...this kid decision was nothin...All I can say that this Umpire isn't veteran or something like Sadiq, Dimpy or Afroze...but he has done almost 9 games with out issues..(Both PCC and Jolly Rovers) if teams think umpire had any issues communicate and have issue register with Management..Its learning process for every one...when you don't give a chance there is no room for learning...We had issues with our own umpires in last couple of years...but resilient teams will always find a way to stand up and more importantly find way to win... will not let few bad decisions effect their game...When we are Springfiled this year, we had the fielder grounding a catch of a set batsmen when we cruising along, every one in the pavilion saw that catch was grounded but fielder claimed the catch inspite of that..(seems to be the case in Cats and MUCC game..Kudos!! for MUCC for having such a great sportmanship..its becoming rare commodity these days..) Requested the Captain to check with the fielder and he simply said..Fielder seems to be sure..that he got it...so..batsmen was given out..We didn't complain we moved on...We fluttered and flabbergasted and then we collapsed...lost the game!!..It was heart rending loss for us...Even to this day..it reverberates in our ears..We have only become a better team..after that...not taking anything for granted...Hope this will be the case with you..If you think umpire took away the game..from you.. Think again...but I think its time for introspection as team for you guys..what you stand for and what you want to achieve..You are good team..and I am sure..you have lots of WIN in store for rest of the season..Good luck...!

    Cheers

  79. Nope, umpiring is no excuse for our loss. If you bat 30 overs in a 40 over game, you can't win. We've gotto pull up our own socks.

Everybody makes mistakes, its human. But when the umpire has to refer to you whether it was the right decision or not, its kinda funny. Hope this kid learns though. Infact, you wern't in the middle, but one of the reasons he gave for turning down an appeal for LBW apparently was 'it hit the pad'. Just atrocious in my opinion, but what do I know.

In the end, teams control their own destiny, don't think I am putting off our loss on the umpiring. You guys played better on the day easy and like I said, you didn't need the kid to win yesterday, you guys outperformed ... Just saying that its a factor which I would keep in mind from here on personally ...

    Peace out ..

    ReplyDelete
  80. I heard that in St Louis, a batsman was given out caught at point. He then went and complained to the umpire, who then REVERSED his decision and let the batsman play!! If this is true, that is purely amazing and completely against the spirit of the game. If the umpire reverses the decision of his own accord, then that's a different matter. Similarly, an umpire gave a run out or LBW (don't remember exactly) while on his cell phone during a game between United and Phoenix. Both teams were shocked! That is ridiculous.

Any other umpiring horror stories? I'm not sure what the answer is to improve the level of umpiring in the league. Thoughts anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  81. By the way, the game between United and Phoenix was last year, not this year, so please don't think I was referring to Anwer Khan who I do think is a very good umpire.

  95. i think this year relegation is mor competitive than play offs in div I. but going by last this year promoters, the real worry is there are no good teams in div II to promote. we need three tier system.

    * i saved a comment here for future use*

    ReplyDelete
  96. we should demote five teams from DIV I and add 7 top teams from DIV II and create a new DIV II. rest could be playing in DIV III.

    ReplyDelete
  100. div 2 top teams are still mediocre to poor in div 1.

    ReplyDelete
  101. you can compress div2 to 20 teams max or somethin like that to make it more competitive.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I am sorry I thought he said demote 2 teams from Div 1 take the top 7 teams in Div 11 and for the new div 2 then the rest in div 3... I misread..
but what I wrote about will leave div 1 10 teams, div 2 9 but I think we 3 short so add top 10 from current div 2 and the rest in div 3

    ReplyDelete
  103. yeah but so are some of the DIV I teams. look chargers and capitol matched up pretty good. but both getting anihilated by other teams. also note AAA and royals matched up well last week but AAA got anihilated by PURDUE.

  104. so we will have 12 teams in DIV I and II and most of the games would be competitive.

  107. true! but those eleven games would be really competitive. as of now most of the game only worth the half. first 15 overs you know who is winning. quality over the quantity.

    ReplyDelete
  108. nd i say make div 1 and 2 15 teams each and 14 matches per team :).

  112. nw, we will always have a situation where teams will go through hardship. Royals are a good team and with the addition of Anand would have been a playoff caliber team. They lost Rupesh and now Dimpy and hence struggling a little.

I like to have 15 teams in both divisions. I would like all teams to play each other. This year, we will never get to see Satha or Adam as we(Phoenix) are not playing both Capitol and AAA.

For div-1 playoffs, we should get top 2 teams from div-2 and 10 from div-1. The only potential drawback is that the top-2 teams in div-2 may not be the finalists, but it does give teams incentives to play hard and get to top 2 in teh regular season.

There is more disparity in the talent level in div-2 than in div-1. We should create a third division for those teams that are not in top 15 in div-2.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Jaggi,

Ten out of the 15 Division I teams make it to the playoffs?

WOW! Imagine how many games Pak Gymkhana will forfeit if that happens? :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Rule of thumb: The number of playoff spots shouldn't be more than 50% of the total number of teams.

    ReplyDelete
  115. lol tango yea if there are 15 teams there need to be 8 playoff teams, if you wanna involve div 2 then do top 6 teams in div 1 and 2 from div 2 in playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Tango.. Historically, the no 9 and no 10 teams are not that far off from the teams in the 7th and 8th spot teams and hence the 10 team suggestion.

Someone earlier suggested that we get top 4 from div-2 and the top 8 from div-1 for the playoffs. I like that suggestion too.

    ReplyDelete
  117. "Tango.. Historically, the no 9 and no 10 teams are not that far off from the teams in the 7th and 8th spot teams and hence the 10 team suggestion."

Right, there is not a big difference between the number 9 and 10 teams, and the number 11 and 12 teams either. Does that mean we allow the top 12 teams into the playoffs?

Teams should earn their spot in the playoffs. It shouldn't just be handed to them.

Anything more than 50% only lessens the importance of the regular season.

Someone earlier suggested that we get top 4 from div-2 and the top 8 from div-1 for the playoffs. I like that suggestion too.

Thats not a bad idea at all. I think I was the one who suggested it :)

    ReplyDelete
  118. tango I agree the playoff spot must be EARNED if not earned it weakens the competition during the regular season....

    ReplyDelete
  119. I agree 4 teams seems to be a good idea getting into Div-I 2 finalist from playoffs and top 2 regular season if both finalist are same as top 2 regular season winners then semi finalists from playoffs get to go

    ReplyDelete
  120. We have 43 teams in Division I and II combined.

How about we split them up 14, 14 and 15 in Division I,II and III respectively. This means all the teams in Division I and II play 13 games.

The extra week can be used to organize an All Star game.

Top six teams from Division I go to the playoffs, and they are joined by the top two from Division II.

    --------------

I still like the 8+2 format instead - 4 would be too much IMHO. Do it the way we used to do it.. that is, the 2 finalists of the Div2 playoffs get to play the prequarters of Div1 playoffs on Sunday (after winning the semis on Saturday). Its very hard on the Div1 finalists, but they have on occasion won even playing back-to-back (famously Milwaukee United beating St Louis, and then Wildcats, after making the finals of Div2. That was the last time Div2 finalists were allowed to play the Div1 playoffs).

I too think 8 is a good number in Div1 because 10 is too many - that many should never go to the playoffs in any sport IMHO (ideally I think Div2 is more like it, 12 out of 26 or so. Unfortunately that isnt possible in Div1).

I too think we should have 15 teams a division, 3 divisions, and everyone playing everyone. And then there should be trophies for winners of regular seasons too - the true champion should always be the team that has consistently been the best, over the entire summer. You have playoffs too, of course, and a playoff champion as well... but the regular season championship *should* be important (just as it is in English soccer, for example - when you work all summer for something, thats the ultimate prize).

Once everyone is playing everyone ni all divisions, *then* the champion of every division should be promoted every year (with the 2nd promotion spot going to the champion - if its not the regular-season champ - or else the finalist of the playoffs). Thats the fairest way. But that "fairest way" isnt possible today, because there are too many byes in Div2 which can lead to luck-of-the-draw basically deciding the regular season champion at the moment (this year, for instance, I believe IIT and Peoria and Illinois are not meeting each other all season long!) Once everyone is playing everyone, that whole chance thing is eliminated.

    ------------

I dont think we ought to be reducing the season further - a few years ago it was 16 games, now its 14, and the entry-free is much more anyway. There is no shortage of time to arrange an all-star game if neccesary anyway IMHO - there are 3 long-weekends (we can pick one of them), we ought to be startnig at least a week or two earlier, and every team currently has IIRC 2 bye-weekends in a season! (2 bye-weekends in *addition* to 3 long-weekends! Thats 5 weekends off already)

Last year, we had exactly 51 teams across Div1, Div2 and 30/30. My idea then was to just slash that into 3 divisions and be done with it... 51 teams, 3 divisions, 17 per division, 16 games for everyone every year (starting a week early, and using 1 bye-week), 8 teams to playoffs in every division, locked in 2-promoted and 2-relegated in every division etc. (Also, long-term, I thought we oughta go 50 overs in Div1, 40 overs in Div2, and 30 overs in Div3... that way there was at least 1 truly "elite" division, players from whom were playing the same length as at US level, and so could hope someday to progress higher onto that stage etc).

I still think thats a pretty damn good format, myself :-) But it seems most people dont want to go to 16 games (I dunno why, anyway a couple are washed out every year already :-) In which case we could go to 15-15-15, and leave the current 30/30 division as is.

But either way, we really need a 3-division format IMHO. Division Two has played some very good cricket for the past 3-4 years, but the problem is that there is too much of a discrepancy in quality - the bottom of Div2 is much much weaker than the top of Div2. That really needs to be changed. (And, honestly, in the last 3-4 years, the top of Div2 was better than the bottom fo Div1... as has been shown by the performances of Milwaukee United, Phoenix and Purdue after they were promoted. That might have changed only now, and this is the first year after 3-4 years that the Div2 teams that have come up to Div1 are actually struggling).

If you see last years Div 2 points table, you will see that Rockers have -2 points as they gave 1 walkover ... Whereas in Div 1, Pak Gym had 11 wins and 2 Walkover given, even then they had 44 points and not 40 ...

There is some glitch in the system .. Also this time we(NoStars) had informed the league well in advance about our inability to play because of shortage of players ...

Ah, sorry - hadnt actually checked the schedule, but talked to Rup yesterday and got the impression that IIT wasnt playing them or you.. was obviously a mistaken impression that I picked up.

But, as you say, the point stands. Last year Illinois won the regular-season title easily.. but had not played AAA all year, the team they eventually ended up losing to in the playoffs. Thats the sort of thing that can happen, which is why I think everyone needs to play everyone before we promote the regular-season winners to the higher divisions.

  131. "Leg Before Wicket": Documentary film

    Dear Fellow Cricketers,

The long-promised documentary film "Leg Before Wicket" is now complete (actually, we're putting in the last couple of sound edits -- but it's close enough), and we're planning on a couple of "friends and family" screenings before trying our luck at the festivals.

I would like to invite the MCC community (cricketers and family members) to these screenings. However, before I lock down the schedules, it would be very helpful to know how many of you would be interested in attending (your friends and family included). Please note that theaters are expensive to rent, and I would love to rent space proportional to the interest -- especially in light of the fact that this is a non-profit project, with all proceeds going to victims of the conflict in the affected parts of India & Pakistan.

The tentative dates are July 21 & 22 (Saturday & Sunday, likely around 2pm, but to be confirmed), in Evanston. The event is free, but because I'm too cheap to rent a big theater, we'll have limited seating on a first-come-first-served basis.

If you could provide me the following details within the next couple of days, I will reserve space accordingly, and send you tickets.

    Team Name: ________________
    Number of attendees -- Saturday 7/21: _______________
    Number of attendees -- Sunday 7/22: ________________

Thanks for your interest and -- for those who were involved -- for your support.

"Leg Before Wicket" is a film that tells the story of cricket diplomacy between India(ns) and Pakistan(is) -- here in Chicago, as well as on the sub-continent. It tries to explore the troubled history between the two countries, and how the shared passion for cricket is opening the door for peace. It also tells the story of the Chicago Giants -- a team comprised of Indians and Pakistanis who have found friendship on the cricket field.

  181. Ok, since we are talking about chuckers again, I have a couple chucker jokes. (If you think they suck, dont let me know, I dont deal with criticism well :)

Whats the fav hang out for chuckers?
    - chuck-e-cheez

Whats their least fav hang out?
    - the bowling lanes

What do chuckers do when you tell them a joke?
    - they dont laugh, they just chuckle

Is MCC going to do anything about all the chucking?
    - Who the chuck knows?!
